The Queen honored the work of her royal relatives with her latest photographs and they show how the wider Royal Family has always had her back.

While the Queen and those highest in the royal line of succession are regularly glimpsed at important royal occasions and engagements, there are plenty more extended Royal Family members that carry out important duties for the monarch. They might not be as well-known to some fans, though for others it’s always especially exciting to see them out and about. Last year the Queen’s cousin and his wife the Duchess of Gloucester took part in a challenge for charity and now she’s been met with huge praise for her latest outing.

Taking to social media, the Royal Family official account shared a series of snaps with a wonderful then vs now theme. And it seems like the wider Royal Family has always been stepping up to support Her Majesty…

In the first two pictures, fans were given a glimpse of Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester beaming as she met children during her visit to Brington Primary School in Cambridgeshire. The caption revealed that this royal visit marked the delayed 50th-anniversary celebrations for the school.

It was officially opened by the Duchess of Gloucester’s late mother-in-law, Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester back in 1970. And that wasn’t the only intriguing insight given as the post also shared pictures of Princess Alice visiting the school in 1979.

Princess Alice was the Queen's aunt, making both her and the current Duchess of Gloucester incredibly significant figures in the monarch’s life.

Both have undertaken royal engagements during the many decades the Queen has reigned and these pictures could be seen to highlight just how important the Queen’s wider family has always been to her.

While many of the Queen’s children and adult grandchildren might be more prominent in the public eye, her cousins and their parents before them also play a huge part. And it’s something that some fans are very aware of, with many quick to praise the “recognition” being given, especially to the current Duchess.

“It’s so nice to see the wider working members of the royal family getting some recognition!” one person wrote.

Another agreed, writing, “Wonderful to see the Duchess of Gloucester’s work being recognized 😍”.

“A very unassuming lady who goes about her job with a sense of quiet duty and little fanfare. Very much underrated,” a third declared.

As another reflected on the Gloucester family’s importance as they commented, “The Gloucesters give quiet service to the monarchy. They are a real asset to the Queen.”

With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations coming up in June, although it’s not been confirmed whether the Gloucesters will be attending, it’s definitely possible they could make an appearance on this important weekend.
