Is it time for 'winter woollies' or should we just enjoy the longer summer? Zoe Ball and Jo Whiley's relatable debate

On their podcast, Dig It, Zoe Ball and Jo Whiley had the most British of conversations - discussing the weather. Or rather, how Zoe is more than ready for the cold weather to truly start, while Jo wants to bask in as much late summer as possible.

There were many years in the past a British summer was famous for being a let down - wet, windy and often cold. But times, they are a-changin’ and after months of scorching temperatures, Zoe is leading the charge for winter woollies, stews and lit fires.

Winter fashion trends and little luxuries to get your home cosy for autumn is one of the highlights of the wetter, colder months. But Jo isn’t quite ready to hang up her summer clothes just yet, arguing against Zoe and suggesting we enjoy the warmth while we can.

Zoe started the debate by declaring, "It's too hot for September. I don't like it. I need to be getting into my winter woollies. I want to eat stews. I want to light the fire.

"In London, it's like 24, 25 degrees. I don't want this heat anymore."

She continued, “I like a season change. I like it on the day. it's autumn equinox. It's happened. I want to be cold.”

Jo rallied against this, arguing you can embrace the cosy season in November and December. And, unsurprisingly, the debate was just as divided in the comments.

Many came right out in support of Jo’s assessment, arguing that British winters are already long enough. One fan online wrote, "With Jo as winters are to [sic] long and drag on forever. The sunshine and warmth makes me happy and I love being outside”.

Another was thinking with more practicality. They wrote, "Team Jo!!! We have months of dark mornings and dark evenings to come. Let’s enjoy the sun and warmer weather and still being able to dry the washing outside!!!"

The warmer weather does make it easier for people to continue getting their September gardening jobs done. Still, there were just as many voices echoing what Zoe was arguing for, including the idea that the winter wardrobe was a big reason why.

Someone shared, "I have a lovely cardi and I want to wear it! Plus I want a good excuse for a hot chocolate" and another added, "Zoe all the way. I want a 4pm pyjama o clock".

All valid reasons. But which side do you fall on?
