The Crown’s Gillian Anderson has broken her silence after her reported split with Peter Morgan.

Gillian Anderson took to her social media to introduce her adorable new pet dog, speaking out for the first time after her reported split with The Crown creator Peter Morgan.

The popular actress, who plays Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of hit Netflix series The Crown, took to her Instagram page with a sweet photo of her cuddled up to her new pooch.

Sharing the lovely snap with her 1.6 million followers, the Sex Education star wrote, ‘Meet my new gf Stella,’ a name which happens to the moniker of her character in the 2013 crime thriller series she starred in with Fifty Shades of Grey’s Jamie Dornan, The Fall.

Fans were loving the heartwarming social media post, with it raking up thousands of likes and comments in a matter of hours.

‘She’s adorable,’ wrote one fan, while others added, ‘😍Very cute!’ ‘Beautiful 😍😍’ and ‘OMG SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!! You both are ✨💓’.

And followers truly couldn’t get enough of the pup (which could be one of the dog breeds most likely to end up on the naughty list), with other comments including, ‘❤️ Stella looks adorable!’ ‘OMG, she is beautiful. It’s really yours?’ ‘Awwww she's a real cutie 😍❤️🌞’, ‘Cuties 😍’ and ‘She looks like part of a very comfortable sweater.... 🥰’.

The new introduction comes just days after news broke the star and her screenwriter and playwright partner Peter Morgan had reportedly split.

The actress and The Crown creator were first linked back in 2016 and have been together ever since, with the star opening up back in November about what it was like to work with her other half on the hit royal-focused series.

"For our own sanity, and actually for the benefit of the relationship, we had very clear boundaries," she told Harper’s Bazaar. "I am not going to comment on the script, but you are not allowed to comment on the performance!"

"I’m pretty good at compartmentalising in my life, period,” she added. “I think I learnt that quite young, being a young mother, in a really intense TV series where it was either full on, on set, or I was in my trailer having to shut the door and no longer be that person but be Mum."
