Anton Du Beke reveals transformation, as he admits hair transplant has 'changed his life'

Anton Du Beke

Strictly Come Dancing veteran Anton Du Beke is one of the most confident men on TV - winning over audiences every week with his hilarious quips and bold dance moves.

But the father-of-two recently revealed that his confidence was hit back in 2016, when he noticed his trademark jet black hair starting to thin.

On his website, 59-year-old Anton confessed, "Back in 2016 as I rewatched my Strictly performances each week, I noticed that I was starting to go a bit thin at the front.

"And the more I saw myself on screen and in photos, under those unforgiving spotlights, the more I became aware of it. I’d cover it with make-up and do my best to avoid certain lights, but I didn’t like the situation at all."

Admitting that the change to his appearance struck him particularly hard as a famous dancer, he said, "Image is very important to me.

"If, as a performer, you’re known for having a good head of hair, should you start to lose it, you lose it very publicly and it can very much affect one’s confidence."

Looking to do something about it, Anton admitted that he was inspired by a conversation with Cold Feet star James Nesbitt, who had a hair transplant himself, to deal with his own hair loss.

Convinced, Anton revealed that he went along to a clinic in Dublin last year for the procedure, and recently admitted it's one of the 'best decisions I've ever made'.

The Strictly star said, "It’s now two years since the procedure, and I can honestly say it’s changed my life. I feel fantastic, like a new man – it’s given me so much more confidence when appearing on television or having my picture taken and I’m so glad I took action when I did."

Anton also shared an amazing before and after photo of his transformation, debuting markedly fuller locks and a more defined hairline.

Fans of the dancer were quick to reassure him that he looked 'gorgeous' before the procedure too, but that they were delighted he'd taken steps to boost his confidence.

One said, 'You’ve always been gorgeous to me Anton ♥️ but if it makes you feel better then embrace it.', while another also agreed, commenting, 'You look great anton 👍 hope it makes you feel better can’t wait till strickly starts 💖😁'.
