It was news that broke all of our hearts, when it was revealed that Miranda Hart's beloved Chummy wasn't returning for series five of Call the Midwife, having captured the nation's affections in the first four seasons of the show.
But it seems that Miranda Hart's former fellow co-star has hinted that she will eventually make a return to the midwife drama!
Ben Caplan, who played her on-screen husband Sergeant Peter Noakes has recently announced that he is quitting the period drama, but that he wouldn't rule out a return for he and Miranda.
He said that, "The door is very much open for both myself and Miranda, and I'm sure we'll make an appearance again."
Hooray!
In his statement, Peter has also said that he is "honoured" to have been a part of the programme, but that he is ready for more diverse and modern roles in the future. He said, "It's been lovely to have been there since the beginning, an amazing roller coaster ride, and I'm honoured to have been part of the whole journey."

"But there comes a point six years down the line that, as an actor, it's good to keep my foot in with the theatre world and exploring other roles. Much as I love playing Peter Noakes, it's great to go off and play some more edgy characters and show a little bit more diversity."

Miranda hasn't starred in the drama for the last two years, with her last episode taking place in series four. In February, the actress and comedian seemed to suggest that her absence from season five and six of the programme was down to ill health, when she announced at a gig that, "I don't feel myself at the moment, because I was ill last year and I wasn't able to exercise."
Her character Chummy ended her time on the series as a happily married woman to Ben's character Peter. The on-screen couple had also had a child, Freddie, after a tumultuous labour which left viewers worried that Chummy may not survive.
Call the Midwife will return for season seven at Christmas time. So we suppose we'll have to wait until then to see if Miranda and Ben will be back...
