Barely a day goes by without news of an M&S product flying off the shelves – from fashion to food.
But now the high street retailer has revealed that a new launch has proved to be a surprising hit with customers, with sales reaching 10,000 a day.
The supermarket debuted the third in its collection of ‘Best Ever’ products last Wednesday (November 9th) and demand has been so strong for its Best Ever Steak pie that it has now taken the accolade of the fastest-selling product that Marks and Spencer has ever stocked.
To cope with the demand for the handcrafted pie, artisan supplier Yorkshire Baker has had to go into 24-hour production to ensure stocks are at an optimum.
Marks and Spencer first started selling pies in 1934, and shifts a staggering 42,000 a day to a loyal customer base.
With a filling made up of tender British beef, smoked bacon lardoons, caramelised onions, a gravy made with roasting pan juices and a buttery pastry casing – it’s not hard to see why the Best Ever Steak pie has tantalised tastebuds the length and breadth of the country.
On the success of the £6 pie, M&S Pie Product Developer Matt Dawson commented, “We knew we’d created Our Best Ever Steak Pie – but we didn’t think customers would be beating down the doors to get hold of one!”
Continuing he added, “It’s selling out across the nation – so our supplier is doubling production to keep up. New stock is being delivered every morning but they’re selling like hot… pies so customers need to get to their local store as soon as it opens!”
Over on the official M&S Instagram, excitement surrounding the launch continues to build among fans of the chain.
One wrote, ‘this is delicious we had one the other day’.
Another simply stated, ‘OMG yum’.
The pie serves two people – the perfect meal to share with family or friends...
