Madonna, the tireless Queen of Pop, is not short of material (girl) – and her latest career achievement is proof of that.

The icon, behind such mega hits like Like a Prayer and Ray of Light, has become the only woman in history to have an album hit the top 10 in five different decades.

Not bad for someone who was told a cheeky bum flash in the 80s was going to end her career before it had even begun.

The Vogue singer achieved the record-making feat after her new remix album, Finally Enough Love, debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Madonna’s debut album, titled Madonna, came out in 1983. Next year will mark her fiftieth year as a pop star extraordinaire, and she’s still shifting those albums.

Despite being a remix album, Madonna didn’t only land in the top 10 of the charts, she shifted over 30,000 units and, taking streaming figures out of the occasion, outsold the rest of the top 10 in pure sales.

Since the debut of her first album in 1983, Madonna has released 23 top 10 albums throughout her career, nine of which went to number one. Her most recent chart-topping album of original songs, Madame X, reached the top of the charts in 2019.

The Queen of Pop recently opened up about what keeps her motivated and moving too – and, unsurprisingly for the ever-controversial Madonna – it was sex.

She called her current favorite obsession “sex”, her “favorite thing to make” was “love” and what keeps her going? You guessed it. “Sex.”

It’s clearly working for her, as she joins a very select list of people who have had top 10 albums over five decades.

Other acts who’ve achieved the feat have done so primarily as bands. The list includes

  • AC/DC
  • Def Leppard
  • Paul McCartney
  • Metallica
  • Ozzy Osbourne
  • Robert Plant
  • Prince
  • Bruce Springsteen
  • James Taylor

Considering Madonna shows no signs of slowing down – recently revealing her dream collaboration with a surprising star and the much-talked about biopic of her life starring Julia Garner reportedly in the works – she just might find herself the first female artist to have top 10 albums over six decades in the future.
