New Amsterdam, the beloved medical drama that airs on NBC, is gearing up for the premiere of season 5 today (September 20, 2022) - it will also be the very last season of the show.

While waiting for new episodes to drop, you might want to re-watch some old favorites (or, perhaps, catch up on the previous four seasons ahead of the new storylines), which you can do in a few different ways...

Season 5 of New Amsterdam is premiering on NBC at 10pm EST on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. New episodes will air every Tuesday at the same time, following episodes of The Voice season 22 and La Brea.

Interestingly enough, the network had ordered seasons three, four and five of New Amsterdam back in January of 2020. A mere two years later, in March of 2022, NBC announced that the fifth season was going to be the show's last. As they say, all good things come to an end.

To catch new episodes of New Amsterdam from the US, you'll either have to watch season 5 live as it airs on NBC on Tuesdays at 10pm EST or opt for Hulu + Live TV. Pro tip: new subscribers get to enjoy a free 7-day trial of the service.

Another option involves the network's streaming platform, Peacock, where all new episodes will be available for streaming the day after they air. The service is currently promoting a limited-time offer that will allow users to pre-pay $19.99 for a full year of usage.

The next day, you’ll also get to watch new episodes for free on the NBC website, where all four seasons of the show are actually available for streaming as well.

Peacock is also home to the other four seasons of the show. Hulu, on the other hand, currently offers users the ability to catch up on season 4 of New Amsterdam. If you can't access any of those platforms but really want to catch up on old episodes, you can purchase or rent them on Amazon, Google Play Movies, iTunes, and Vudu.

New Amsterdam has gained a pretty solid following from fans who are interested in the fictional lives of the nurses and doctors that work in one of the oldest public hospitals in the United States, New Amsterdam Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Max Goodwin, played Ryan Eggold, is the show's protagonist: the hospital's medical director who is looking to change the neglected facility from the inside for the better, putting patients first.

The show, created by David Schulner, is based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer.

The plotlines involved in season 5 of New Amsterdam are clearly a way to wrap things up nicely given that this will be the show's final season.

The good news is that NBC has confirmed that all cast members will return for the final season, with Dr. Elizabeth Wilder, played by Sandra Mae Frank, actually promoted to series regular.

There will be a total of 13 episodes in this last season and, according to an official synopsis, the upcoming episodes will focus on a new cost-saving program that Max hopes could save the hospital as a whole; plus life-saving surgeries; romances among characters, and more.
