Eamonn Holmes has suffered a "nasty" run-in at the dentist.

The TV star, 60, rushed to the dentist and was treated immediately after they found a "nasty abscess" in his wisdom tooth and later shared the ordeal on Twitter.

He tweeted, "Just out of the Dentist... HIM 'You have a nasty abscess in your Wisdom tooth. We are going to have to take that out.' ME 'Oh, when is that likely to happen?' HIM 'Now!"

Ruth Langsford's husband admitted he nearly delayed treatment, but is glad he got "caught unawares".

A fan tweeted him saying, "Always best to get caught unawares like that, than having to wait to go back and the nerves kick in.. get it out the way that day... well done for being brave."

To which he replied, "Ha ha... I nearly delayed, and then I took a deep breath. Get it done."

It comes just days after Eamonn criticised Channel 4 for their "cruel" Gogglebox edit which left him "deeply upset".

During Fridays night’s Celebrity Gogglebox the This Morning host candidly discussed his father’s death while the celebrities watched an episode of BBC’s Ambulance. It was an emotional moment that had wife Ruth in tears.

However, rather than broadcast the scene, Channel 4 instead played a clip of Eamonn and Ruth later sharing some lighthearted chatter about when Ruth was in labour with the couple’s son, Jack.

After seeing the show, Eamonn was furious with the edit – and that other celebrities were able to share their stories, while his emotional speech was missing.

He wrote, "In reply to a number of complaints …. I am hurt beyond belief that @C4Gogglebox chose not to use me talking about my Father dying from a Heart Attack at the side of a road and replace it with a funny story following a young lad giving his Father CPR . Idiotic and cruel edit."

A spokesperson for Gogglebox apologised to Eamonn and revealed they'd made the decision to edit the episode for future repeats.

"We have apologised to Eamonn over what happened in this week’s episode. We understand and respect Eamonn’s feelings on such a deeply personal story.

"We have taken the decision to edit the episode for future repeats and All 4. We look forward to working with Eamonn and Ruth for the rest of the series."
