Britney Spears has announced her engagement to boyfriend Sam Asghari, five years after the couple first met.

The US singer took to Instagram to share the happy news with fans, showing off her colossal ring alongside her now fiancé in a sweet video.

“I can’t f-king believe it 💍💍💍💍💍💍❣️!!!!!!” she captioned the clip, which appears to have been shot at her Thousand Oaks mansion in California. The romantic update was met by plenty of supportive messages from followers, with many wishing Britney luck on this exciting next chapter of her life.

Paris Hilton, a long-term friend of the legendary pop star, also shared her response, writing, “Congratulations love!! 😍 So happy for you! Welcome to the club! 👰🏼💍.” The Hollywood socialite will likely be able to share some helpful wedding planning tips with Britney, having become engaged herself to boyfriend of one year, Carter Reum, back in February.

Not everyone was so gung-ho on the announcement of Britney’s third engagement, however. It didn’t take long for the comment section to fill up with words of tough love from both fans and celebrities, many of whom urged the Grammy winner to sign a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot.

It’s no secret that Britney Spears’ net worth has been a hot topic ever since details of her conservatorship revealed she had limited control of her assets, and it looks like folks are now worried marriage could financially hurt her in the long run.

Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer was one of the first people to voice their concern for the singer’s future, writing, “Make him sign a prenup.” This simple instruction was echoed by countless fans, who, concerned for Britney’s wellbeing, advised her to lawyer up so she can protect herself from potential exploitation.

“So happy for you mama but please make sure y’all sign that prenup😘,” one person wrote.

“Get you a bulletproof prenup. He should embrace that after all you’ve been through ❤️,” another fan commented.

It’s no surprise that the singer’s loyal following, who also pioneered the movement, Free Britney, is so protective of her. From Britney's forced IUD to the allegations of family abuse raised in her conservatorship hearing, the Toxic singer has been through an incredibly difficult time over the past few years.
