It’s Grease lightning indeed as fans gear up for the much-anticipated release of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, the prequel to the uber-popular 1978 movie.

Boasting a recently announced cast, the show is set to air on Paramount+ in the near future. What can we expect from the series? When will it air? Here's everything we know so far about Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.

WHAT IS GREASE: RISE OF THE PINK LADIES ABOUT?

The musical series is set in 1954, about four years before the original movie. As the official synopsis reads, "before rock 'n' roll rules, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up outcasts dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever."

Although specific details have yet to be released, it appears as if the original series will not focus on the same exact characters rendered famous by the movie but, rather, a new set of Pink Ladies.

Paramount+ just released the series’ cast list.

Fans can expect Marisa Davila as Jane, Cheyenne Isabel Wells as Olivia, Ari Notartomaso as Cynthia, Tricia Fukuhara as Nancy, Shanel Bailey as Hazel, Madison Thompson as Susan, Johnathan Nieves as Richie, Jason Schmidt as Buddy and Maxwell Whittington-Cooper as Wally. Iconic actress Jackie Hoffman will also take on the role of Assistant Principal McGee. Sadly, none of the original cast looks set to return, so far!

GREASE: RISE OF THE PINK LADIES SOUNDTRACK—WHO'S INVOLVED?

The series will feature an entirely new roster of original songs, each one written and executive produced by Justin Tranter, a Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer that has worked with Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa and The Chicks, among other musical gurus. Jamal Sims has been tapped to choreograph all the musical numbers.

WHEN WILL RISE OF THE PINK LADIES PREMIERE?

No official premiere date has yet been announced but we do know that the ten-episode series will certainly air sometime in 2022.
