Amazon just redesigned its entire Kindle range - and one beloved feature is finally back
It's thinner, lighter, faster - and my favourite feature has finally returned
What's New
- Slimmer, lighter design: with a new display stack and a seamless flush front screen
- Aluminium housing: for the 6-inch Kindle and the Signature Editions of the Paperwhite and Colorsoft
- New colourways: Ube (a rich purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite and Fig.
- Faster performance: books open 30% faster than the previous line-up
- Double tap to turn pages: available on the Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Editions
- New accessories: page clicker, magnetic cover with page-turn buttons, charging dock, and covers
Just in time for their big sale event, Amazon has reimagined their Kindles. Not one, not two, but the whole e-reader line-up. And they've bought back some seriously exciting features.
Over the last 20 years, Kindles have become almost synonymous with the best e-readers on the market. They emulate the look and feel of the page flawlessly, with clever features on different models, and a vast library system.
The innovations apply aesthetically and technically. Amazon's Kindles will now come in rich colours, with beautiful aluminium housing, as well as faster, brighter, and more vivid screens. And, with their first-ever Amazon own brand Kindle accessories, the much-missed page turn buttons are making a comeback too.
New Amazon Kindle Line-Up
The all-new Kindle comes perfectly pocket-sized in shades Ube (rich purple) of Graphite. With a 6-inch screen, 16GB of storage, and up to six weeks of battery life, it's hard to imagine what else you'd want in your e-reader. It also boasts a 30% faster opening speed, which is brilliant for your most tense and gripping page-turners.
For the first time, it's also available with a premium aluminium black in Alpine Sky Aluminium or Seaglass Green Aluminium.
Whilst this has the "thinner, lighter, faster" upgrade that applies to all the Kindles, the Paperwhite is also waterproof with an adjustable warm light and up to 12 weeks of battery life. It's available in Graphite and the Signature is in Seaglass Green too.
The Signature Edition also comes with an aluminium back, 32GB of storage, a new double tap page turn feature, and an auto-adjusting front light and dock charging.
This is the most convincingly paper-like, with colour that's easy on the eyes. The Signature Edition comes with an aluminium housing, 32GB of storage, an automatically adjusting front light, and dock charging too. It's also available in Graphite, with the Signature Edition in Graphite and Fig.
Since their first release in 2007, we've seen plenty of changes to the design of Kindles. Some for good, the Colorsoft, with its vibrant pages, takes us closer than ever to the glossy magazine pages you'd have on the print version. And some Kindle changes over the years were ones that I still mourn, especially the loss of the page-turn buttons. That's why Kindle's new announcement is so exciting.
All the new Kindle devices have been made to a thinner, faster, and lighter design. Any Signature versions (the Paperwhite and Coloursoft Signature) are also available with aluminium backs, an ultra-premium finish that tips them into feeling like tablets.
The models also offer newer, rich and refreshing colourways, Ube (a rich purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite and Fig.
While Kindle accessories aren't new to the market, Amazon own-band ones are. Specifically made to suit their e-readers, these Amazon Kindle accessories bring a lot more to the market. The biggest, most exciting is their cover, which re-integrates page-turn buttons from the discontinued Kindle Oasis. It's like Christmas come early.

At the time of writing, these new Kindle devices are available to pre-order. Will they put an end to the Kindle vs Kobo debate for good? With page turn buttons back on the scene, I think it might.
