It's not often we consider how much celebrities may use their homes as a calming retreat just as we do. But actress Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon's bedroom is proof of just that.

There are so many benefits to making your bedroom cosy and peaceful; not only does it make the space more welcoming, but it can also help keep it a place where you can de-stress. One of the most efficient ways to do this is to pick one of the best bedroom paint colours to create a restful environment.

While there are so many interior paint colour trends to get lost in, neutral hues are often the best choice for curating a serene decor. Sharing her home with Architectural Digest, Viola Davis showed how the neutral colour palette in her and her husband's bedroom has helped shape it into a retreat to de-stress.

With so many bedroom layout rules recommended by the experts, it's all too easy to forget that sometimes less is more. Especially if you want your sleeping space to be somewhere you can properly switch off.

Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon's luxurious bedroom is filled with neutral, pastel shades of colour and a healthy wash of white decor.

"We are in our primary bedroom. This is where we sleep, this is where we talk, this is where we laugh. Lemme tell you something, me and Julius have had a lot of laughs in here," says Viola.

"It was very important to have the neutral vibe for relaxation. It's a beautiful profession, but it's a stressful lifestyle, and you just wanna be able to come home in the space that you sleep in and feel more meditative. The neutral colours were conducive to that," she adds.

Although the bedroom trends are starting to show more colour and bolder decor, there's much to be said for keeping to a reduced colour palette. Throughout the rest of Viola's home, there's a common theme of neutrality with pops of colour, personality and striking art.

She's added personality in her home with ethnic art, bold patterned decor, and authentic family touches. Alongside these style choices, a clear theme is comfort. From the large corner seat sofa to the bed Julius gushes about, this is a celebrity home that's clearly well loved and thoroughly enjoyed.

There are a few colours you should definitely avoid in your bedroom if you want a restful night's sleep; however, most gentler hues are more than okay to keep your room relaxing.
