Chocolate is autumn’s cosiest colour - and these heated throws are too tempting to resist
A new kind of cosy is brewing and I'm finding it very difficult to resist
If I could put Autumn onto a colour palette, with all its oversized knits, candlelit evenings, hot chocolates and weekend walks, it would be epitomised by chocolate browns, creamy lattes, and golden honey hues. I love them in all their different forms, but this season, those shades have been showcased slightly differently.
I've credited Dreamland with making some of the best electric blankets I’ve ever tested, and that’s after more than a decade of trying different models. Vanilla Latte is softer and more understated, with creamy tones that give it a calming, pared-back look.
Mocha is my pick for a more indulgent statement, with deep chocolate and coffee tones that practically demand a mug of something warm alongside them.
Dreamland's new collection takes all the rich and delicious parts of autumn and turns them into a heated throw. Each one has a tonal gradient that gives the blanket a soft, almost melted appearance. And with a generous 160 x 120 cm size, you can really see the colour change when you're snuggled up on the sofa.
Of course, the colour is the new part, but underneath that very tempting exterior is the clever engineering that earns Dreamland its reputation. The Intelliheat technology means the throws are designed to warm up in around five minutes, although in my experience that can feel like a rather generous estimate. I go cold-water swimming all year round, and even after a swim I can arrive home feeling like I have an ice cube where my core should be. Turning my Dreamland up to full has me shedding layers and feeling toasty remarkably quickly.
There’s plenty of control, too, so you can turn the heat down when you only want to take the edge off, or dial it up when you need serious warmth. And, perhaps most appealingly in a winter when we’re all watching the energy bills, Dreamland estimates that its heated throw can cost just 8p to run for eight hours. That makes this feel like a rather luxurious way to get warm without necessarily having to heat the whole room.

Hot Honey, meanwhile, feels like the blanket equivalent of a golden-hour glow. Whichever one you choose, I suspect the hardest part will be convincing yourself to get off the sofa.
