Dilly Carter's utility room makeover relies on one key colour rule to look elegant and expensive

Who says a laundry space has to be dull and dreary? Not the decluttering expert Dilly Carter, who has shown us how it's done with her newly renovated utility room.

After proudly showing off her recent kitchen renovation reveal, Dilly is back delighting fans with another impressive room transformation that offers style and substance in equal measure. While adding smart storage solutions to make every aspect of laundry easier, she has also thoughtfully colour-drenched the space to make it feel luxurious.

By making the appearance of her utility room equally as important as the functionality, she explains how the space has gone from her "least favourite room in the house, to the room I can’t stop looking at."

Although laundry room organisation ideas are more than helpful in these spaces, making the room look good isn't always straightforward. Dilly, however, has shown us that a darker colour palette is the route to success.

"Welcome to my utility room! Finally, I have got the room of my dreams. Let's be honest, we spend most of our lives in here, which is why it needs to work so well," says Dilly.

"Nearly 10 years of dreaming, my dream has become a reality. And the reason that it looks so good, so boujee, I think is the colours. The deep navy with the dark grey machines," she adds.

Opting for a darker appliance doesn't mean you get out of cleaning the washing machine, but it can give you a more polished, elevated look despite it being just a laundry place.

Not only has Dilly removed the need to bend down when loading the washers, but she has also found a surprising place to keep her laundry basket that makes life much easier.

"The reason I've had these machines put at this level is obviously so I don't have to bend down all the time. It makes it so much easier to load and unload. I've then got these two drawers underneath with my pop-up laundry baskets, so I purposely got these flat ones," shows Dilly.

"When I unload my washing, I put it into these big, deep drawers that I had designed, so I haven't got laundry piling up here. So anything that doesn't need to be ironed goes into the top drawer, and anything that does goes into the bottom," Dilly says.

Keeping your washing lying around is no longer a laundry mistake that makes your home untidy, even if you're too busy to put it away. You can make a home for it and keep it organised until you're ready to sort.
