We're of the opinion that selecting a classy nail look is never easier than in the autumn. You have so many rich hues at your fingertips, all of which instantly afford a sense of sophistication, but these seven in particular are unrivalled.

While classy manicures do, of course, exist among every season's nail trends, there's just something about autumn's nails, especially when styled alongside its fashion trends, that really ooze a certain air of timelessness. Picture a deep, glossy burgundy peeking out from the sleeve of a camel trench coat or chocolate brown nails worn alongside a lightweight, cashmere jumper - classy on all counts. And it's not just darker colours that afford such a look; there are also several soft, creamy neutrals and muted olive-y tones that can instantly elevate the look of both your hands and outfits.

In fact, we can think of seven shades and designs that definitely fulfil this classy autumn nail assignment, all of which work with any nail length and shape.

7 effortlessly classy autumn nails to request and recreate now

Of course, one person's classy manicure might not be another's, but when it comes to these autumnal hues, we think there's truly something for every preference. Whether you're seeking a subtle neutral or a rich, indulgent plum for your September nails.

Our classy autumn mani must-haves

1. Red wine nails

When we think of a classy manicure, a merlot-like burgundy look instantly comes to mind, paired with a sleek and short shape. It's rich, modern and incredibly chic - the exact shade you want to complement soft knitwear and stylishly tailored coats. Like a classic red, this colour is also incredibly versatile and will add a cool, moody pop to any look - be it a white shirt and jeans outfit or an evening dress.

2. Cashmere nails

For something soft and simple, a cashmere-like neutral is a great and very classy choice. The creaminess of the colour feels very fresh and clean, especially when paired with a short nail shape.

3. Mocha nails

Warm taupe and mocha browns are another timeless and classy choice for autumn. They're smooth, warm and perfectly on-theme for the season - what more could you want?

4. Plum nails

If you want a chic but slightly more individualistic look, go for a purply plum tone over a burgundy. This will set your nails slightly apart from the crowd, and the depth of the colour is just so rich and expensive-looking - we love it, especially from October onwards.

5. Berry nails

This sort of berry tone is one of our favourite looks to go for when autumn descends, as it's just so stylish and sophisticated, especially with square and almond nails (as we can see above).

6. Olive nails

If it's too early in the season for very dark nail colours, may we suggest an olive green instead? It's muted, versatile and just a true autumn classic - both nail and fashion trend-wise.

7. Chocolate brown nails

For a reliably classy look, a chocolate brown manicure is always a lovely choice for autumn. No matter what nail length or shape you pair it with, the richness of the colour really shines and complements every outfit you pair it with.
