Saying hands are an 'age giveaway' never sits well with me - the implication being that we're all lying about our age and our hands are somehow outing us.

What I will concede is that this area gets a rough ride. Most people's mitts endure daily sun exposure SPF-free, constant washing with whatever soap happens to be in the room and a lack of skincare attention, aside from the odd dose of hand cream.

So yes, our hands are a bit drier, rougher and more pigmented than our faces, and much like the neck, many women do see them as a problem area. It's fitting, then that a forward-thinking, grown-up beauty brand like Trinny London is now offering the very serious and potent Overnight Hand Transformation.

And, after meeting with Trinny Woodall to learn all about the hush-hush launch back in August, I can confirm this new tool and serum combination are set to be next-level effective.

Chatting to Trinny before the launch, she explained why a treatment like this was long overdue in the market. "This is not just about taking a product and plonking it on your hand, because that is a hand cream", she began. "This is not a hand cream; this is an overnight hand treatment."

"It's got the specially designed 0.5mm microneedle. You do a little criss-crossing. What that's going to do is open micro channels for the product to go in deeper, but also stimulate collagen... and it is like taking the clinic to your home, because not everyone can afford to go into a clinic and have laser treatment or have IPL."

Going on to discuss the Concentrate's hero ingredients, Trinny advised that alongside signal peptides, which "talk to your skin and tell it what to do in terms of collagen regeneration", the alpha arbutin "stops the production of melanocytes (the cells that produce excess melanin pigment) so it halts them in their tracks. When you've got spots coming up on youre hand they can get darker and darker, but this will get them lighter."

Trinny then drew my attention to some before-and-after photos from a 12-week clinical study, and I think you'll agree the results on pigmentation and skin texture are pretty compelling.

Feeling a bit unsure as to whether microneedling at home is a good idea? The key to success is ensuring the needles are a safe length to only reach the top layers of the skin, hence Trinny's 0.5mm cutoff. Anything more invasive should only be carried out by a professional in-clinic.

And if needles aren't really your thing, I am here to reassure you that, having used the tool over the last month it has never once been uncomfortable. The ultra-fine closely-spaced needles lightly roll over the skin in a way that thonestly feels quite satisfying - a bit like scratching an itch - and the included cleaning spray ensures it is sterile for every use.

As for how to use the treatment to get the best effects, Trinny advises, once you've microneedled, applying the concentrate to the centre of the hand, then "really pushing it down and smoothing it out so that it's starts very intense in the middle and works its way out."

Do this "every other night," and you should see results on skin texture within seven days and on dark spots in around 60 days.
