Anne Hathaway just solved the summer-to-autumn nail dilemma with this chic 'coconut jelly' shade - and it's so affordable

While bright, juicy nail looks are still very much in, we cannot ignore the fact that September is approaching. Thankfully though, Anne Hathaway's coconut-inspired manicure bridges the seasonal divide - offering a subtle and very chic transition.
Though it's still sunny and warm, August is one of those months that can be a little tricky, style and manicure-wise. It feels a little late to invest in more summery clothes, and if your next manicure isn't until mid-month, your choice of colour and design will likely be seeing you into September, too. That's not to say you can't still rock one of the more juicy, sun-soaked 2026 nail trends, but if you're keen to start toning things down a little, actress Anne Hathaway has just debuted a lovely option that works for both months.
Dubbed 'Coconut Jelly Gloss' nails by celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik, Hathaway's sheer, creamy nails are the perfect solution to this summer-to-autumn shift. Anything coconut-related feels summery to us, but the actual shade is timeless and incredibly versatile. Better yet, it was created using an essie nail polish - making it A) easy to recreate and B) so inexpensive.
Bachik shared that this was the exact creamy-white shade that he used to create Hathaway's chic August mani. It's sheer and buildable, ideal for a fresh and subtle look.
For a chic alternative, this 'Marshmallow' shade is ideal for a similarly sheer white manicure. It also makes a lovely French tip colour, too.
Another option for a coconutty manicure is this Gel Couture shade. As the name suggests, it boasts a gel-like shine and, like the rest, is buildable.
Hathaway debuted her new, creamy manicure at the premiere of her latest project, The End of Oak Street, on August 9th, 2026, before Bachik then took to Instagram to share the details of the look, from its seriously chic name to the exact polish behind it.
This 'Coconut Jelly Gloss mani' is exactly as it sounds: sheer, glossy and incredibly fresh - like a splash of coconut milk and the shiny texture of jelly. Bachik revealed that he used essie's Arctic Jelly shade to create it, and while you can shop the shade in the US, it doesn't appear to be available in the UK. Thankfully, though, essie has several close alternatives, which we've shared above. We also recommend investing in a top coat, like essie's Gel Couture top coat, to achieve that glossy gleam.
As for the other standout details of the look, we love that the sheer nail polish was paired with a very neat, short and squoval shape. Short nails are very popular right now and always feel apt for a 'reset.'
If you're planning to recreate Hathaway's look at home, apply two to three coats (depending on your opacity preference) of your sheer, creamy polish followed by a glossy top coat to help ward off chips and peeling. This coconutt-y hue will also look so chic on your toes too - a coordinating mani-pedi, especially in this subtle sort of shade, is always a great and reliable choice, no matter the season.
