GoCompare has awarded John Lewis Product of the Year in its inaugural Insurance Awards.

The British financial services comparison website launched the competition to celebrate the insurance companies that provide outstanding products to their customers. A team of expert judges assessed products in three categories—car, home, and van insurance—before narrowing it down to six lucky winners.

Lee Griffin, CEO and Founder at GoCompare said, “After a successful judging process and exceptional examples of companies going that little bit further to help better protect their customers, we are delighted to announce the winners of the first GoCompare Insurance Awards."

John Lewis took home the prize for Product of the Year with its excellent car insurance policy, beating the Highly Commended motor insurance company MoreThan.

While the British business is best known as a fashion retailer, it also offers premium car insurance.

John Lewis car insurance customers receive a number of benefits, including misfuelling cover, uninsured driver protection, a courtesy car whilst your current one is in repair, onward travel cover, and 180 days European cover. It currently boasts a five-star rating from Defaqto, an independent financial researcher with 25 years of experience in assessing products.

The Best Overall Car Insurance provider went to Admiral, while Ticker received the award for Making Insurance easier.

In the home insurance category, Policy Expert was named the Best Overall Home Insurance provider, while Product of the Year was given to LV Select. When it came to the van insurance category, Admiral was named as the Best Overall Van Insurance provider, triumphing over the well-known AXA.

GoCompare enlisted a panel of financial experts for the judging process, who made their final decision based on customer reviews, polls, claims processes, complaints feedback industry data from Defaqto and GoCompare’s own data.
