Sharing a video with her social media followers, Ruth asked, “Do you love avocados as much as I do? If you do, I've got a little kitchen gadget I want to share with you.”

However, look beyond its appearance, and you’ve got the most handy bit of kit. Ruth then went on to demonstrate the three different functions, starting with the “brilliant” knife side to cut the rind of the avocado.

Showing the blade, Ruth pointed out that it’s “quite blunt, so you know you’re not going to cut yourself. You slice your avocado and then we twist.”

Next she came on to the true genius of the gadget - a “fabulous” design feature “where you get the stone out without making a mess or using a sharp knife”.

Ruth demonstrated, “Now you know that tricky bit of getting the stone out. Look at that. You've got little metal prongs in there. You do that [hitting the prongs flat on the stone] and then you twist. Ta-da!”

If you’re looking to slice up your avocado to fold into a salad or to sprinkle over some toast, you can then use the third function of the gadget. Ruth was honest that this was arguably the trickier features to use, and results may vary.

The scoop and slice part “really depends on the consistency. If the avocado's too hard, this won't go through. And if, like this one, it's a bit soft, you don't get the complete clean slice.”

Another takeaway from Ruth's video is just how organised she is, keeping all of her bits safe in wicker storage baskets, all of which she had labelled 'Easter'.

Not only is that a genius way of keeping things tidy and easy to pull out when needed, the wicker baskets are much more aesthetically pleasing than regular plastic storage boxes.

Once opened the baskets, Ruth explained she was going to do things a "little differently" this year, focusing on daffodils as the inspiration for her sideboard. She said, "Now you might have noticed I've always got daffodils in the kitchen. As soon as the daffodils are out, I'm on it.

"I absolutely love them. They just say spring. They say Easter. So, this has been my inspiration."

Ruth then goes about preparing her table, offering a look at a selection of felt rabbit figures (which appears to be this flocked bunny from Ocado), little chicks, and decorated eggs that she nestled inside various flowers.

Ruth Langsford has previously spoken about her own dementia fears after witnessing her dad suffer with the condition, and her mum currently living with Alzheimer's disease.

Now, she's shared insights into her personal experience of caring for parents with the illness, and the impact of a cruel comment when she made the "awful" decision to put her mum into a care home when she could no longer stay in her own house.

Ruth's dad, Dennis, was 72 when he was diagnosed with dementia, eventually passing away from complications from the condition in 2012. Her 94-year-old mother, Joan, is currently living with Alzheimer's after being diagnosed around eight years ago.

Appearing on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast, Ruth recalls the turmoil her mum went through when her dad needed full time care. Speaking of how she eased the guilt her mum felt, Ruth tells Fearne, "We said to her, 'Daddy needs 24 hour care mum, and you can't possibly give him that.'"

"He would not want you to become ill looking after him," she told her mum at the time, referring to the situation for all her family as "really, really awful."

When the time came that Joan was no longer safe to be cared for in her home by carers and also needed full time care, Ruth was once again faced with the same decision over care homes.

After going ahead and putting her mum in a care home, Ruth continued to post pictures and videos of Joan to social media, as she'd always done.

After sharing a video of Joan "dancing in the kitchen doing the veg," which she doesn't do so much now she's into her 90s and less able to, Ruth was devastated to receive a nasty comment.

Somebody wrote underneath Ruth's video, "If she loves her mum so much, why is she in a care home, why isn't she living with her?"

"I don't really reply to these things because you give them oxygen, don't you?" Ruth tells Fearne, but in this case, she was so angry and upset, she replied.

"How dare you," she recalls replying to the unnecessary comment, adding, "You know nothing about my mother's medical needs, her requirements, how dare you."

After drawing attention to the comment with her response, the presenter shares that her fans "jumped on" the person. "Then I felt bad, because it was a pile on," she shares.

Ruth continues, "But it just showed how much it hurt, you're feeling all those things yourself. It's a very hard thing for people, and I see it all the time."

"I do lots of things for Alzheimer's, the memory walk every year, and I chat to people, and that's the one thing people talk about the most, saying, 'I feel so bad because I put them [their relative] in a care home,'" she says.

Ruth has advice for anyone having these difficult, guilty thoughts. "Don't feel guilty, it's done with love, you are doing this with love," she says.

The presenter also talks about the slow nature of loss when you have a parent in cognitive decline, and the challenge of watching their personality leave while their physical body remains here.

Speaking about her dad, Ruth recalls, "I could see it in his eyes one day, he didn't know I was his daughter. He just thinks I'm a nice lady bringing him his favourite maltesers and cake."

She was forced to tell herself "that's alright" when this happened. "I know who he is, and I'm here, but it's hard," she says of her feelings about that time.

Her mum however, "100% knows its me," she shares, delighted that Joan will introduce her to others as "my daughter," remembering their special connection despite her other memory problems.

Ruth Langsford might have been blindsided by her split from Eamonn Holmes two years ago, but she’s done living in the past and ready for what’s next.

As well as her new book, Feeling Fabulous, becoming an instant success and hitting number two on The Sunday Times bestseller list, Ruth is open and candid on a number of topics, including why she changed her mind on therapy and the possibility of dating again.

But when it comes to ex Eamonn - who she was with for 27 years, married for 14 of them - Ruth’s recent blunt response seems to suggest she’s not spending too much time thinking about him. When asked if Eamonn had read her new book, she simply replied, "Don’t know".

For Ruth, the book - and, indeed, her next chapter in life - is about more than her divorce. She told Heart's breakfast radio hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, "I don't discuss the divorce.

"I don't go into any detail about the divorce, I talk about how I'm dealing with moving forward, finding myself single at 65 years old, which I didn't think would ever happen but here I am.

"It's not discussing why we got divorced or anything about that, it's talking about the experience of when you thought your life was going one way, and then it goes a different direction - and how you cope."

A big focus for Ruth's book, as the title suggests, is learning to find your way back to feeling fabulous, no matter what. And she shared that, for her, this starts with appreciating small joys each day.

"Find the joy because it's always there. We all lead such fast-paced lives. When you have those little moments of your first coffee, seeing a robin in the garden, a sunrise, a sunset - you have to hold onto that moment and pause.

"Just pause for a few seconds... I try to do that, just stop and smell the coffee."

Naturally, Ruth was asked about her dating life, and she revealed there is one thing she is categorically ruling out - dating apps.

On the show, she laughed, "Oh god, I won't be swiping. If I'm going to [date], Jamie, I want to do it the old-fashioned way.

"You know, that I might just walk out of here, bump into somebody and go 'oh sorry' and then find myself having a coffee with them. I don't know, but I won't be swiping anyone."

Previously, in an exclusive chat with woman&home, Ruth shared that her split hasn't put her off a new relationship, but she's also found being single at 65 isn't "as scary" as she thought.

She said, "I haven’t been put off having a relationship. I haven’t even been put off marriage, but I’m definitely not actively looking, and part of that is because I’ve realised I’m actually quite good on my own".

"I am independent and quite strong. It has taken me a bit of time [to realise that] and I don’t know what lies ahead, but that chapter now feels quite exciting.

"It’s not as scary as I thought."

Ruth might be in a place to embrace being single now, but there are still parts of the book that evoked painful memories for her, including revisiting the loss of her sister. Ruth’s sister, Julia, passed away in 2019, after struggling with depression.

When asked if writing her first book came easy to her, the Loose Women star answered, "It was. When I say easy, I say I enjoyed writing each chapter for different reasons.

Some, though, were "obviously very challenging… and I did the audio book myself, so talking about my sister's chapter, I'm not sure how I got through that one but I did."

Ruth Langsford has been open about accepting her marriage is over, and the challenges this presents when it comes to intimacy in later life with a new partner.

The star was married to fellow presenter Eamonn Holmes, and they confirmed their split in May 2024 after 27 years together.

As she continues to rebuild her life in the aftermath of divorce, Ruth has now spoken candidly about the unexpected impact of counselling on her healing process.

Speaking to Radio 2's Rylan Clark, Ruth shared that having counselling hasn't just changed her outlook on her divorce, but also "all the situations" she experiences in life.

Initially reluctant to have any therapy, she details how she only agreed to have some after serious nudging from a friend.

Ruth recalls, "A friend of mine said, 'Would you please, maybe think about seeing my counsellor?'" This was somebody who had already helped Ruth's friend through her own difficult divorce.

At the time, Ruth had scoffed in response, "I don't need to see a counsellor to tell me I'm sad," but her friend didn't give up encouraging her.

Eventually, the presenter gave in, after the friend "pecked my head for so long." She says, "Eventually I said yes just to shut her up."

"It was the best thing I ever did," the presenter says candidly, of taking the plunge and seeking help from a counsellor. "I'm still doing it," she continues.

Alluding to the power of friendships in also helping with her recovery, Ruth shares, "With your friends, they're always on your side, and they will stand by you whatever decisions you make or however you're feeling."

One particular friend she turns to at times of need, is fellow Loose Women presenter, Colleen Nolan.

Ruth previously told us, "Coleen is a great mate of mine, who’s also an agony aunt, and full of wise words. You need the shoulder to cry on and the advice but sometimes you just need to laugh and she makes me roar.”

Weighing in on how friends and counsellors differ in their approach to offering help, Ruth explains, "A counsellor is very different, they look at the bigger picture."

She adds, "They never tell you what to do - she's never told me what to do. She's just guided me to think in different ways about things."

Speaking about something very pertinent she's taken away from having therapy, Ruth says may people have related to a particular phrase her counsellor has shared with her.

"Lots of people have picked up on this saying that she said to me, which was 'Find your light.'"

Ruth continues, "Everything felt so dark, and she said, 'Just use that energy that you're feeling, anger and sadness, try and bring that energy here and find your light.'"

During a recent Loose Women segment, Ruth Langsford opened up to her fellow panellists about her dating fears and the challenges of intimacy in later life.

The conversation was sparked by the Bridgerton storyline depicting Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) becoming concerned about embarking on a new romance in her advancing years, with Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis.)

In turn, Ruth and fellow panellists Kelly Brook, Nadia Sawalha and Jane Moore, shared their thoughts on the challenges of sex for women over the age of 50 and beyond.

Ruth, 65, confirmed her separation from Eamonn Holmes in May 2024 after 27 years together.

Although she's said that she's open to a new relationship, the presenter is in no rush to find one. Ruth revealed that she'd "never been body confident," adding that her "absolute nightmare" has always been having to dress in a swimsuit in front of friends and crowds.

"Even when I was young, I didn't like low-cut tops, I didn't wear short skirts even when they were fashionable," she says, telling her fellow presenters that she'd certainly never go topless on a beach at any time of her life.

Explaining her concerns around intimacy should she begin a new relationship in her 60s, Ruth shares, "I don't think I'm a 'lights off' girl, but I would certainly be anxious about a new partner and intimacy, being naked."

In contrast to Ruth, Jane shares that she'd have no qualms about later life sex at all. "If I get a new partner, it'll be take it or leave it," she says about being naked around them, adding, "I would go for somebody may age, and they're going to have droopy bits."

Echoing Ruth's fears, Nadia revealed she'd always had a fear of being naked with a partner, and age has never made a difference to this.

"I've always feared nudity," she says, adding, "It's just something in me and I don't know what it is, I'm too messed up."

Kelly on the other hand, would have no qualms about stripping down with a new person. "I love sport, I love my body, I love what it does, so I've never had those hang-ups and that negative opinion of my body," she shares.

Ruth recently told woman&home exclusively that she has a "never say never" attitude to finding romance again after her split from Eamonn.

"I haven’t been put off having a relationship. I haven’t even been put off marriage, but I’m definitely not actively looking," she shares, continuing, "and part of that is because I’ve realised I’m actually quite good on my own."

The presenter concludes, "I am independent and quite strong. It has taken me a bit of time [to realise that] and I don’t know what lies ahead, but that chapter now feels quite exciting. It’s not as scary as I thought."

We’ve recently seen her embrace the title of Queen of Christmas, sharing an easy cranberry sauce recipe that can take the stress out of some of the Christmas Dinner prep, and for Ruth Langsford, this time of year is "extra special".

After what has undoubtedly been a tricky 18 months following her split from husband Eamonn Holmes in May 2024, the Loose Women star acknowledges that things are different now and that it’s all about what is ahead rather than what is past.

We caught up with her as she revealed her plans for the festive season, how she makes Christmas magical for son Jack, and why she is looking forward to the future.

Festive plans

A true Yuletide enthusiast, Ruth shares, "I confess I do make every Christmas extra special. I speak a lot about my lovely mum and about the battle she is facing, so every year with her is a privilege."

"I will spend the big day with family," she reveals before adding, "I always do the cooking, which I really enjoy."

"It’s all about the preparation so that you’re not stuck in the kitchen all day," she explained, "I lay my table the day before, it saves so much time."

Ruth’s home videos and kitchen tips have become hugely popular with her thousands of social media followers. As well as posting her easy cranberry sauce recipe, she also made headlines for the strange ingredient she adds to her spaghetti Bolognese.

Family first

While it’s easy to get wrapped up in the consumerism of present buying and making your Christmas look extra special for Instagram, for Ruth, family - in particular her son Jack, and beloved mum Joan, 93 - is at the heart of the festive season.

"Even though Jack is grown up, I love to keep the traditions alive," she explained, "[I still do] stockings, loads of decorations and Christmas games."

"Christmas is magical, no matter what age you are."

Bittersweet memories

And while the festive season, for the most part, is a happy time, for many of us it can bring back memories of those we used to spend the special time with. It has been over a decade since Ruth lost her father, Dennis, to dementia.

The star admits, "At Christmas I particularly miss my dad." Which is why she is determined to give her mum, who has Alzheimer’s, the very best time.

She explains, "I don’t know how many more Christmases she might have and I value every bit of time I have with her."

Looking to the future

Looking beyond Christmas, Ruth admits that she is "excited" about the future. Rather than dwelling on the fact that her 14-year marriage came to an end somewhat unexpectedly, the star is admirably embracing the cards that she has been dealt.

"It’s about looking to the future and recognising that a new chapter is beginning. It’s exciting," she says with a sparkle in her eye.

Ruth concludes, "All I know is that I am happier than I’ve been in a long time with loads of fantastic opportunities. I am very grateful."

She’s the longest-serving presenter on ITV’s This Morning. She’s a regular on Loose Women. And she’s the latest woman&home cover star, revealing she’ll "never say never" to a future relationship after her high-profile split from Eamonn Holmes in 2024.

But these aren’t Ruth Langsford’s only accomplishments and accolades. As it turns out, she’s also the Queen of Christmas, or so her festive apron says.

Ruth, who is no stranger to sharing some of her favourite recipes and kitchen secrets, including the strange ingredient she uses for the ultimate spag bol, is back once again with a perfectly simple cranberry sauce recipe, but this time she’s made one important change.

While her videos from the kitchen attract thousands of likes and comments from her fans, she often gets told the same thing - wear an apron. In past videos, the Loose Women star has shocked fans by cooking without anything protecting her lovely outfits.

Heeding her fans’ warnings, this time around, Ruth started the video by debuting her apron, a festive red number with the words ‘Queen of Christmas’ printed on. Ruth reveals that this was a gift from her son, Jack, and gladly accepts the title of Christmas Queen, jokingly flipping her hair.

Apron safely on, it’s time to launch into the recipe which doesn’t need many ingredients - just fresh cranberries, orange zest and juice, Port, caster sugar, cinnamon sticks and a little bit of cloves.

Getting started, Ruth rinses the cranberries and pops them into a pan. Next, you add the zest of an orange over the cranberries before adding the freshly squeezed juice from the orange.

Add in the caster sugar and pour in a splash of Port. For anyone hoping for some exact measurements to follow, Ruth shares in the clip that she doesn’t deal in spoons, ounces and millilitres when it comes to her cooking, something she learnt from just watching her mum. So feel free to adapt the recipe to your own preferences.

After the Port, Ruth adds in the cinnamon sticks and cloves. Here, the presenter has adapted her mum’s recipe somewhat, swapping out whole cloves for ground cloves.

Not only is this a handy tip for anyone who might not find cloves in the supermarket, Ruth revealed it was inspired by her mum sometimes forgetting to take the cloves out once the sauce was done.

Once it’s all been cooking away, Ruth turns down the heat, covers the pan, and leaves it bubbling away for a couple of minutes. Wondering how long to let it simmer? Ruth left it long enough to come back with a freshly made cup of coffee.

Heat off, let it cool and in your jar or container it goes. Simple, and ready to store for Christmas.

Celebrities. They’re just like us. Or are they? ITV favourite Ruth Langsford might have us questioning that theory after she revealed a “secret ingredient” in her spaghetti bolognese that might come as a surprise.

Posting to her Instagram followers back in April, Ruth - looking effortlessly chic in a blue and white shirt - shared her process for preparing the favourite dinner.

While most of the recipe was what we’ve come to expect, there was one addition that Ruth called her “secret ingredient” that adds a “deep flavour” - instant coffee granules.

Getting started with the dish, Ruth revealed she was making her mum’s recipe - but slightly adapted to her "own fabulous recipe" - and wrote in the caption, "Everyone’s got their way of doing it, haven’t they? This one’s mine… loosely based on Mum’s classic but, over the years, I’ve made it my own! No strict measurements here… I just go by eye, taste as I go, and trust my instincts."

Things start off the familiar way. There are frozen onions, mince beef, garlic puree, tomato puree, and an Oxo cube. But then we get to the secret ingredient - cue dramatic music (literally - our praise to Ruth’s video editing skills here.)

Ruth adds a sprinkling of instant coffee granules, saying it "gives it a really deep flavour" while insisting it "doesn’t taste of coffee".

As if to prove her point, Ruth hilariously added, "So Jack [Ruth’s son], just to let you know I’ve always put coffee in your spag bol, darling. And you don't like coffee."

Needless to say, opinion appears to be divided on adding coffee to the traditional Italian dish.

Some comments were unequivocal in telling Ruth that it was a big "no no", while some indicated they’d give it a go, or have heard of doing so before. One fan replied, "Coffee in there is a complete game changer. I was shown this trick when I lived in Canada in the 60’s. I think it looks great Ruth."

In her caption, Ruth also gave away another one of her tips, "I know some people swear by red wine, fancy stock, or simmering for hours… but I keep it simple, hearty and full of flavour… just how we like it. I always use frozen, chopped onions….game changer! Makes it so much quicker and no runny eyes!"

While the coffee granules might seem like the biggest revelation, fans couldn’t help obsessing over another detail in Ruth’s video - her impeccably organised kitchen.

In one clip, Ruth opens her freezer and every single thing is labelled. At least if people aren't going to take away her coffee trick, they might be inspired to get more organised.

Like so many of us, Ruth Langsford loves the autumn season, mainly because autumn fashion is just so chic. “Autumn and autumn fashion is a bit of me,” she said in a recent Instagram video. “I love this time of year. Sweater weather, as we say. I love all the colours.”

Ruth Langsford revealed the two-step routine for volumising her 'thin' post-menopause lashes that she uses in her everyday beauty regime.

In a video shared on Instagram, Ruth sat down in front of the camera to share a 'Get Ready With Ruth' segment with her followers. Delving into her makeup bag, she explained that despite not appearing on TV every day, she maintains some off-duty beauty to "still feel fabulous" on her days off.

Although she keeps it lowkey when she's not on screen, Ruth explained that she "rarely goes completely bare-faced" - and particularly likes to ensure that her eyelashes have some va-va-voom.

The menopausal hair thinning is something so many women deal with, and Ruth admitted that it took a toll on not only her tresses but her eyelashes, too.

"I think in menopause, you know, the hair got thinner, the eyelashes got thinner," Ruth said, adding, "Everything’s getting thinner except me, sadly!"

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are taking on more responsibilities and presenting duties on This Morning, it was revealed on Monday via Eamonn's Instagram that they will be presenting the popular daytime show over the half-term holidays.

They have been gracing our screens as a duo since 2006, where they first started presenting This Morning on a Friday. They have had ventures outside of the loved programme too. In 2014, they co-hosted ten episodes of the ITV quiz show Gift Wrapped; In 2015, Ruth and Eamonn have presented Channel 5 series How the Other Half Lives and from March 2018, they co-presented Do the Right Thing.

The news of their increased presenting duties comes right after Eamonn's 40 year TV anniversary, where he began his career at Ulster Television.

As it is school holidays, the tradition goes that Eamonn and Ruth often replace Holly and Phil. Ruth also confirmed this on her Instagram by saying, "it’s half term so me and him indoors... Eamonn and I are on This Morning this week....hope you can join us 10.00 - 12.30."

It’s her down-to-earth attitude which bleeds into her choice of clothing that makes her so loveable. Not fussy, easy to replicate and while still looking chic, it’s a yes from us.
