Shorts can be trickier to style than you think and I often find myself choosing something else to wear in the heat because I don't want to be worrying about coverage. Denim shorts in particular tend to be on the shorter side and can bunch up as you walk which isn't ideal.

Not everyone feels comfortable or confident in mini-length designs either but Queen Mary's midi skirt is a stunning alternative that still delivers on the denim. It's the perfect smart-casual piece for summer as the silhouette is very timeless and sleek and the fabric adds a relaxed edge.

We've not seen her wear this past season skirt before but the sunshine in Denmark has meant she's brought it out for 2026. High-waisted and A-line, it's got two pleats that accentuate the flowing shape and Queen Mary went for the Zimmermann skirt in a deep indigo tone.

Darker blue denim without a lot of variation in the wash naturally feels a bit more elevated than super mottled or light designs. The indigo colour perfectly complemented the elegant style of Mary's skirt and ensured it wasn't too much of a casual contrast against her heeled sandals.

Personally, I'd style a denim skirt like this with flats for maximum comfort, though I love the barely-there feel of her Gianvito Rossi pair. Minimal sandals can help create a leg-elongating effect as there aren't loads of straps cutting off your silhouette at different points.

This is especially great when you're wearing a longer skirt or summer dress as they already have that flowing shape. Espadrilles, ballet flats and strappy sandals would all work with a denim midi skirt for summer and Her Majesty added a white and blue striped blouse to complete the look.

White Broderie Anglaise and embroidered designs are always popular this time of year and hers featured frilled sleeves and blue and red floral motifs. Blue denim goes with pretty much anything but it looks particularly lovely with a pop of scarlet and with white so Mary nailed that combination.

She chose a very feminine flared skirt shape that accentuates the waist and can be balanced out by puffed sleeves or statement shoulder details. Column skirts are more understated and sleek, though they also tend to be more fitted as a result.

If you want maximum breeziness then I'd maybe follow Mary's example. Whatever design you choose, you could easily swap out a shirt for a vest top, camisole or T-shirt to suit different occasions just as you would with a pair of shorts.

Some subtle gold jewellery completed the Queen of Denmark's look and she wore this gorgeous ensemble to her daughter Princess Isabella's school graduation. Even in a heatwave the royals always look put-together and though this wasn't an official engagement, Mary's signature style tends to be on the smarter side.

This makes a denim skirt an ideal option instead of very relaxed, mini denim shorts and I suspect she might get a lot of use out of this if the weather stays warm.

Queen Mary of Denmark relies on tailoring and midi dresses as much as the other European royals, so on the rare occasions we see her in jeans it's always interesting to see how she puts her elegant twist on a casual staple. She recently re-wore her Hugo Boss pair to the 2026 LykkeCup in Herning and the flared silhouette is a perfect alternative to straight-leg denim.

This 70s-inspired shape is simultaneously retro and contemporary, as they've really had a resurgence in recent years. Many of the best jeans for women over 50 are flared or boot-cut and the 54-year-old Queen's jeans were mid-blue with a high-rise waist and a relaxed flared leg.

You can get flares which are very fitted around the waist and hips, though looser designs like Mary's are even more comfy and casual. She wore them with a tan belt to accentuate the waist and a red LykkeLiga T-shirt in honour of the occasion.

LykkeLiga is a national handball community for children and young people living with disabilities and the cup brings together over 900 people for a day focused on sport, community and joy. The Queen was there as chair of the Mary Foundation, who shared a series of snaps on the Danish Royal Family's official Instagram account.

Queen Mary fully threw herself into activities on the day, so it's clear that she finds her flares incredibly comfortable. Relaxed, breezy silhouettes like this are great to wear in the heat and since most jeans have at least some cotton in them, they can be remarkably breathable too.

With a more tapered top half, flared jeans also look great with tops tucked in or left loose over the top, giving you extra flexibility when it comes to outfits. The shape of them is also very leg-elongating and you can lean into this with your choice of footwear.

In cooler weather, go for pointed toe boots and in summer, pointed sandals or flats would pair so well with flared jeans. The Queen of Denmark took a different approach and wore white trainers which were practical and complemented the casualness.

Instead of chunky sports shoes, Mary's trainers were a little more fashion-focused as she picked a pair of adidas Stan Smiths. These had navy blue accents on them and the style scored highly in our Digital Fashion Ecommerce Editor Caroline Parr's Stan Smith review.

They're a classic in the world of trainers and you can get various different colourways besides the ones Mary owns. Like jeans, trainers aren't something we see her reach for a lot in general for public appearances but she's had these adidas ones in her collection since at least 2023.

When you want a failsafe combination for everyday, trainers and jeans are a winner and flares take this up a notch as something a little different. Though straight-leg jeans are incredibly classic, it's nice to switch things up and go for something a little more flowy and bohemian.

Queen Mary of Denmark is getting to dress for the weather we wish we were having in the UK right now, but even if we can't escape the rain we can copy her clever style hack. Mary has a simple way of transforming dresses and skirts, including the floral one she wore on 1st June.

Stepping out with King Frederik in Odense for the start of their Summer Tour, the Queen paired this piece with a vest top and a Ralph Lauren blazer. But it was her belt that made a big difference to the overall look.

Throughout the winter we saw her using chunky belts to add definition to her coats and now she's doing it again with a summery twist. A lot of the dresses or skirts we wear in heatwaves or warmer weather are flowy and belts give them some structure.

This in turn makes an overall outfit look more polished and thought-out. Queen Mary's pleated skirt had plenty of volume and her jacket was draped over the top, so her Etro woven belt pulled everything together and highlighted the fit-and-flare silhouette.

This was quite a statement belt and featured a buckle studded with stones and stacked rope strands. Given that gemstone designs are a big jewellery trend for 2026 it's perhaps no surprise to see Mary reaching for this jewellery-inspired belt again.

Woven or raffia waist belts are fabulous for bringing a beachy edge to a dress or skirt, as this style is always so popular this time of year and it's often neutral-toned. However, leather, suede or synthetic designs can be even more versatile as they aren't so summery that you couldn't wear them at other times of year.

Tan, brown and cream would work particularly well as they are a softer contrast against different tones compared to black, but you also can't go wrong with a plain black belt. The chunkier the belt, the more it will draw the eye to your waist and cinch in your dress, skirt or jacket.

Queen Mary loves really leaning into the structured feel and going for wide belts, though when she visited Australia in March she paired a long linen skirt with a thin belt instead. Streamlined belts are more understated and yet still give you a lovely amount of shaping.

Something to consider is that they won't completely cover the full waistband of a skirt as easily, so if this is a style you prefer, I'd advise picking a wider option instead. With dresses this isn't a factor and you can tie a belt into your summer looks even more by matching the hardware to your jewellery.

Her Majesty's pearl drop earrings echoed the creamy colour of her belt buckle and she finished off her ensemble with a sunhat, Gianvito Rossi court shoes and a cream Chanel bag.

Queen Mary's signature style often has elements of vintage glamour to it and this look was no exception, especially with the wide-brimmed hat. Her style trick of adding the belt might be used to great effect over the coming months before she starts her summer break.

Jeans and trainers are a pairing you know you can rely on but Queen Mary of Denmark has just worn an equally comfy combination that feels much more elegant. She and King Frederik moved to their summer residence, Fredensborg Castle, on 4th May and she stepped out in the sunshine in Reiss linen trousers and Chanel flats.

The Mila trousers are £170 and they come in a few colours but Mary's are navy with tan ric-ram trims running up the legs and on the waistband. They're made from pure linen and this is a brilliant material if you're on the hunt for spring outfit ideas as it's breathable and so works so well for warmer weather.

Linen blends are a good alternative if you want to minimise the creasing that linen is known for and there are so many affordable linen-blend trousers available right now. Queen Mary went for navy blue which is a softer option compared to black and still very versatile, though camel and white are also incredibly popular for this time of year.

Wide-leg styles accentuate the drape and breezy feel of the linen and the Queen's finished just above her Chanel flats so you still got a glimpse of her footwear.

Slingbacks are a style favoured by the royals across Europe for spring/summer, from Spain's Queen Letizia to the UK's Catherine, Princess of Wales. Mary's were the classic two-tone design with the black toe cap which is so iconic for the French brand.

For those of us who want to achieve a similar level of chicness without the Chanel price tag, there are so many other slingbacks on the market, both flat and heeled.

The plainer the design, the easier they'll be to style and the strap helps to keep them secure on your feet. Slingback shoes are more elevated than white trainers and yet you can wear them day-to-night in comfort without feeling over-dressed.

The sleek, demure style of these shoes worked to lift the casual trousers and Queen Mary finished off her ensemble with a simple T-shirt and an Arma leather jacket. Button-up jacket styles are especially on-trend right now and if leather isn't for you, I'd recommend going for a denim one for an off-duty outfit.

To make things formal, pick your best trench coat to layer over the top and a cropped design will mimic the proportions of Mary's outfit. She accessorised with gold and diamond jewellery and some light brown Ray-Ban sunglasses which added a summery, glamorous edge.

The Queen put this outfit together with the official welcome to Fredensborg Castle in mind, though it blends comfort and style so well that she could easily re-wear this for a date night or summer gathering. Changing your top will also make a big difference to an outfit like hers and a silky cami or shirt will smarten things up even more.

Just a few months ago the Queen of Denmark went to her home nation of Australia on a State Visit and wore another pair of wide-leg linen trousers, this time with a white T-shirt and matching blazer and trainers. Her Chanel flats were also packed for the trip and this time she styled them with a black suit and peach T-shirt as she arrived in Perth.

There are some key items that should always feature in a spring capsule wardrobe and a great pair of comfy flats is one of them. My best white trainers always get a lot of wear this time of year but sometimes I want something smarter and more elegant. Ballet pumps tick these boxes and Queen Mary of Denmark just wore a particularly versatile pair.

The Australian-born royal is on the final stop of her and King Frederik’s royal visit and they got a tremendous reception in Hobart, where she grew up. Stepping out in the sunshine in her paisley ME+EM dress and a blazer, Mary snubbed the royals’ go-to court heels for toe-tone flats.

Queen Mary went for the more classic slip-on option which is perfectly in-keeping with her timeless signature style. They also had rounded toes, though square toe items are a big spring/summer shoe trend for 2026 and are a little more contemporary.

Whichever type you prefer, ballet pumps bring a level of sophistication and simplicity to an outfit. They work especially well with flowy skirts or dresses as they complement their feminine silhouettes. The dainty design can also smarten up casualwear like jeans too, making them a great alternative to trainers whilst still being comfortable and flat.

Her Majesty styled hers with an old favourite paisley-print ME+EM dress which was white with pops of amber and brown. The background colour tied in with her shoes and she layered a lightweight blazer over the top, securing it with a waist belt.

Everything about her ensemble was well-thought out and her ballet flats were a clever choice for a busy day spent on her feet. Queen Mary and King Frederik were greeted by adoring crowds waving Danish flags as they visited the waterfront.

They then hopped aboard a boat from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies to view the kelp conservation forest and they also got to inspect a lobster and sea urchin, producing some pretty iconic photos. This outing was one of several engagements during the royal visit where Mary wore flats and her other pairs were equally understated.

It’s lovely to see so many royals embracing alternatives to heels, as the Princess of Wales has been spotted in Boden loafers recently, whilst Queen Letizia of Spain is a committed flats-wearer. Depending on the styles you go for, flats can also look incredibly polished and I’d say ballet flats are the epitome of this.

Since touching down in Australia for her and King Frederik’s royal visit, Queen Mary of Denmark has really been embracing sunshine-ready outfits. One of my favourite looks of hers so far is the simplest and consists of pastel blue linen trousers, a white T-shirt and a lightweight blazer.

All of these items could be found in many people’s spring capsule wardrobes and this combination is so versatile for warmer days ahead. Mary wore this ensemble when the couple went to Melbourne Cricket Ground and it was clearly incredibly comfortable as she didn’t change when she had a go at kicking an Australian Rules football.

Her Majesty tucked in a plain white T-shirt with a crew neckline and it doesn’t come much more classic than this. Even the royals rely on wardrobe basics and her fitted tee created a smooth silhouette and was slightly more polished.

To dress an outfit like hers down you could go for an oversized T-shirt loosely tucked in. Queen Mary added a white blazer over the top and she left it unfastened. This meant she had more freedom of movement and it also gave more of a glimpse at her outfit underneath.

As she was showcasing her Aussie Rules skills, the Queen - who was born and raised in Australia herself - opted for practical adidas football boots. White trainers or sandals would be lovely alternatives too and she completed her ensemble with black sunglasses.

Queen Mary’s linen trousers and the T-shirt are wearable building blocks for an outfit and you can mix and match so many different pieces with them, from trench coats to colourful bags. Earlier on in her and Frederik’s Australian trip, Her Majesty had worn a very similar outfit - this time with a pastel pink linen blazer and silk wide-leg trousers.

The silhouettes were equally gorgeous, though I still prefer her outfit at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as it seems even more understated and achievable for those of us seeking out inspiration for spring/summer styling. The royal couple are in Australia for six days and on 18th March they’re set to fly to Hobart in Tasmania to conclude the tour.

Tasmania is where Queen Mary grew up and where her father still lives. It’s likely that she will want to spend time with him before returning to Denmark and the Australia tour is her first since she and Frederik became King and Queen. When the weather finally warms up in Europe, we might see her re-wearing her breezy linen trousers and T-shirt as she’s on to a winner with them.

Even before 1st December many people will have already started decorating their homes for the festive season and deciding on Christmas tree themes. Others take a mix-and-match approach to the tree rather than striving for coordinated perfection.

The Royal Families of Europe have also been putting up their trees and Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark’s style is a lot more personal than you might expect. In a video released on the official Instagram page for the Kongehuset (Danish Royal Family), they shared a glimpse of them hanging decorations on a colossal Christmas tree.

It was a real family occasion, with Mary and Frederik joined by their children Christian, Josephine, Vincent and Isabella. This was reflected in the ornaments too, as each of the kids had their own personalised baubles for the Christmas tree.

They’re not the only ones, either, as the King and Queen also have two separate baubles with both of their names on them. These are beautiful and alongside clips in the video of them accidentally smashing a decoration and playing with their dog, it emphasised how much this moment was about family and fun.

No matter whether you love a real tree or artificial Christmas trees for ease, decorations with personality make a big difference. Personalised decorations are also incredibly popular right now - as woman&home’s Digital Home Editor Tamara Kelly explains.

"Decorating the tree as a family is a beautiful annual tradition to treasure," she says. "Not only is it a joyous activity to bond the whole family, it also allows everyone to add their own personal stamp on the tree. Personalised baubles and tree ornaments are more popular than ever, thanks to this very sentiment of everyone playing a role in the wonder of Christmas."

You don’t have to completely abandon the theme you’d usually go for, either. Tamara advises that you can stick to a "chosen colour palette to keep the scheme coordinated" and then "add personalised designs to act as charming accents" that are dotted throughout the tree.

She adds, "If you are decorating your tree or Christmas tree alternatives with little ones and pets around, opt for shatterproof baubles, because accidents do happen."

This is something Queen Mary and King Frederik know all too well, having broken one of their decorations in the video. The rest of their tree isn’t strict with the colours, though red features quite prominently and they added pops of cobalt blue and gold.

To give a traditional feel to the royal Christmas tree they also included a few classic white and red candy canes, as well as tapered white candles and, of course, a sparkling star on the top. This is the tree that is on display in Amalienborg, which is the Danish Royal Family’s official residence in Copenhagen.

The British Royal Family also look to have the Christmas tree up at Windsor Castle - as seen in a picture posted ahead of the President of Germany arriving for a State Visit on 3rd December. Sadly, from this we can’t see if they have any personal decorations, though it’s possible that ones at their individual homes do have some.

From now until spring I'm sure I won't be the only one reaching for a snuggly wool or cashmere jumper most days of the week. Knitwear is an essential part of winter outfits and whilst not every piece is date night outfit-appropriate at first glance, there is a way to make your favourite relaxed or oversized styles feel a little more polished.

All you need is a certain type of belt and this works for knitted dresses, cardigans and even lighter jackets, which is how Queen Mary of Denmark showcased it recently. She and her husband King Frederik have been visiting Latvia and she paired a long leather belt from Max Mara with a burgundy Massimo Dutti jacket.

Her jacket could easily have passed for a cardigan thanks to the wool fabric and collarless design and the black belt wrapped around it twice. This double loop is what made it feel modern and especially waist-flattering.

It's specifically designed to fit neatly around the waist, making a belt like Mary's such a game-changer for your wardrobe. They can add structure and definition to chunky or oversized jumpers or cardigans and are perfect if you want to accentuate your silhouette but still want the drape of flowy knitwear.

A waist belt is an underrated accessory given how affordable they can be and the surprising difference they can make. The Queen's belt was a deep bronze-brown tone which complemented her burgundy jacket and wasn't too much of a colour contrast.

Brown and tan are big autumn/winter fashion colour trends and they'd work better if you want a belt that goes with both pale and dark knits or jackets. These tones wouldn't be a stark contrast with either, but if you love wearing deep colours then a black belt is equally versatile.

Material is also a key factor as suede waist belts bring softness that looks wonderful with knits whilst leather is more practical and structured. Queen Mary went for leather and this was balanced out by the flowing Max Mara brown midi skirt she wore too.

She finished off her outfit for her and Frederik's visit to Adazi Military Base with plain black boots, burgundy gloves and some glimmering gold jewellery. Without the almost corset-esque waist belt this ensemble would've been very elegant.

With the belt, it felt fashion-forward and powerful too, despite it being such a small addition. This accessory would pair with many winter coat trends too and the Princess of Wales is a fan of belting her tailored coats for a crisp, smart look.

Now the Queen of Denmark has added her Max Mara belt to her collection, we could end up seeing it styled in many more ways, including with coats. It's the wider, fitted design that really takes knitted staples to another flattering level, though slimmer belts can also be used with jumper dresses and skirts.

In early October we saw Mary wearing one of these with a floral blouse and burgundy skirt when she attended the presentation of the 2025 Christmas stamp. This thin belt highlighted the waistband of the skirt in a more understated way, but no matter which style you prefer, the Queen has proved that belts shouldn't be forgotten about.

Autumn is officially jacket season and it’s one of the reasons why I love this time of year as I can enjoy wearing my suede jackets, blazers and trenches. In recent weeks, though, the temperature has started to drop and I had been reluctantly considering packing these lighter options away and reaching for thicker coats.

Then I saw Queen Mary of Denmark making the most of not one, but two, of her autumn jackets and her genius double-layering trick has convinced me otherwise. She braved the chilly October conditions in Randers for a walk with King Frederik X on 27th October in a knee-length beige trench over a Max Mara Prince of Wales Check blazer.

The best trench coats are neutral and pared-back like this one, which Mary’s had in her collection for a while. It had a belted waist, though she left it unfastened and this gave a great glimpse at her new double-breasted blazer underneath.

The brown and beige tones complemented the colour of her trench but there was also enough contrast thanks to the hints of red and navy in the check to make it stand out. When you’re layering two jackets together this can help to give them dimension.

Queen Mary’s approach of leaving her trench unbuttoned whilst the blazer was fastened is another clever move. This way they layer seamlessly without appearing overly hefty and it gives a structured blazer more room under a coat.

When it comes to what else you’d wear with two jackets, jeans and a blazer is always a failsafe. Tailored trousers would also tie in with the smartness of a blazer and a trench coat and would continue the flowing silhouette to give a leg-elongating effect.

You could of course wear a jumper dress or skirt too, though these could bunch up more easily and detract from the sleekness. The Queen of Denmark wore dark blue wide-leg trousers with a matching turtleneck and pointed-toe heeled boots, and added a brown scarf for extra cosiness.

At certain points during the walk she removed her trench and just wore the blazer. This is the beauty of layered looks as it means you can easily adapt your outfit to suit the changeable autumn weather - just like Caroline says.

There are also so many different possibilities when you’re styling a blazer and a trench together as you can mix and match different jackets under the coat depending on how bold you want to dress that day. Although Mary’s combination won’t keep you toasty in the depths of winter it’s perfect if you want to get a few more weeks or months’ wear out of your favourite trench coat before packing it away until spring.

Of all the autumn/winter fashion trends I’ve seen emerge for 2025 my favourite - and arguably one of the most wearable - is suede jackets. The best suede jackets bring gorgeous texture to an outfit and this box was definitely ticked by Queen Mary of Denmark’s brown Prada one.

She wore this collarless jacket to the Nordic Rare Diseases Summit in Copenhagen on 17th September over a floaty Zimmerman midi dress. The contrast of the very flowy, whimsical frock and the deep brown jacket might not have worked as well were it not for the material.

The suede brought a softness to her outfit that tied in with the feminine floral dress and this was accentuated by the design. Instead of having a neat collar and tailored feel like many suede jackets, Queen Mary’s was collarless and fastened with a belt.

The tan leather belt mirrored the trim on the rounded neckline and felt quite fashion-forward. The Queen matched her shoes to her jacket, opting for chocolate suede Gianvito Rossi court shoes that tied the two pieces together cohesively.

Chocolate brown, tan and mocha are big autumn/winter fashion colour trends anyway and are the perfect pairing for suede jackets. Although a black jacket is incredibly versatile too, I think that slightly lighter tones show off the texture better.

These colours are also very neutral and easy to style, meaning you don’t need to worry about getting a lot of wear out of an investment item like a suede jacket. You can throw one on with a dress like Queen Mary’s or with something a little more casual like jeans and a chunky knit.

The beauty of the suede jacket trend is that it works with both smarter and relaxed pieces and can be incorporated into so many different outfits with ease. Longer-line silhouettes look particularly stunning with trousers, whilst I think cropped designs work well when you want to accentuate your waist and not have it cut off half-way down a midi skirt or dress.

The Queen of Denmark has had this Prada jacket in her collection since at least 2013 and it’s featured in several different autumn outfits over the years. In 2024 Mary wore it to present the Children’s Aid Awards and styled it with a tan midi skirt and a satin blouse and in 2013 the senior royal attended the Men’s Handball World Championships wearing it with jeans.

Her outfit this month was so elegant and when it’s colder, I can imagine her bringing it back out and adding a pair of matching suede knee high boots. Queen Mary completed her look for the Nordic Rare Disease Summit with gold earrings and a glimmering bangle.

This year’s summit, held in Copenhagen, gathered leading academic experts, healthcare professionals, patient representatives and decision-makers to discuss possible solutions, with the aim of improving the quality of life for those living with rare diseases. The theme for 2025 was patient empowerment and Her Majesty visited four stalls which highlighted conditions for people with rare diseases.

Deciding what to wear in the heat is tricky, but just when you think you’ve mastered that, the weather changes its mind. August has been warm yet grey and this presents a styling problem that Queen Mary of Denmark has provided a solution to.

After enjoying her summer break she’s been back in action and fans can also tune in to see her on TV on 19th August. Her Majesty previously showed designer Søren Vester around the wild garden at Fredensborg for Søren Vester's Garden - Biodiversity and Castle Gardens.

Photos were shared on social media and Queen Mary went for a summery ensemble consisting of barely-there strappy sandals, knee-length shorts and a long-sleeved blouse. This is exactly the kind of combination that works for the current weather.

We’ll all have sandals in our summer capsule wardrobe, though hers from Michel Vivien Paris were almost a mix between sandals and ballet flats. They had a woven design with straps criss-crossing over her foot and were a caramel tone that accentuated their minimalist design.

Barely-there sandals tend to be all about the straps and they can have a gorgeous leg-elongating effect compared to chunkier styles. As much as I love my Birkenstock Arizona sandals, when I want to feel elegant and elevated without reaching for heels, something delicate like Queen Mary’s shoes is what I’d normally go for.

Her sandals were flat and this means she could easily wear them day-to-day without them feeling too much. The neutral colour enhanced their versatility and also complemented her Bermuda shorts.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering how to style shorts and are daunted by denim pairs, I’d recommend following the Queen’s example. Longer, linen or cotton shorts are not only breathable for muggy weather but also more forgiving than shorter styles.

The soft, billowy fabric drapes rather than clings like denim can, and picking a longer length also helps to elongate your frame. Long shorts also feel quite contemporary and are on-trend for the summer.

Queen Mary of Denmark has already worn Bermuda shorts a lot this year and these ones were camel-coloured and fell to just above her knees. From the pictures shared by the Danish Royal Family on Instagram, it looks likely that they were linen.

Instead of pairing her shorts and sandals with a cami top or T-shirt like she might if it was hotter, Mary chose the Sea New York Celia top. Hers was the light blue version with long sleeves that finished with delicate Broderie Anglaise cut-out detailing.

This was also featured on the bodice and the top was finished with a pretty pattern of yellow, pink and blue flowers. Sadly, her top is no longer available, though it still comes in shorter-sleeved styles, like the Tie-Neck Ruffled Blouse in cream.

Her Majesty didn’t tuck her blouse into her camel shorts and this gave her ensemble a polished yet relaxed edge. In the absence of scorching sunshine this month, something lightweight with coverage like her outfit is a perfect choice. She looked so comfortable in it as she gave Søren his tour of the wild garden and spoke of the joy it brings her.

Spring is all about the pastels - and I’m not just talking about clothes. Butter yellow and lavender shades have been hugely popular shades for manicures too, but I’m excited for things to get a bit more vibrant now summer has arrived.

After all, what could be more perfect for the season than sorbet nails? This trend steps away from the delicacy of so many spring nail colours and ranges from lemon sherbet to blood orange.

One of my favourites is watermelon-pink and Queen Mary of Denmark just introduced me to it. I tend to stick to lighter pinks and the royals typically do as well, so her nail look for a visit to the World Wildlife Fund’s nature project at Knudshoved Odde on 27th May took me by surprise.

She saw an area restored by the WWF and pictures gave me a close-up look at her polish as she helped to release butterflies and saw nesting boxes set up for a rare beetle. Digital Beauty Writer at woman&home, Naomi Jamieson, thinks her sorbet-inspired colour is "perfectly summery".

"Queen Mary's nails are exactly the shade that springs to mind when we think 'sorbet’," Naomi says. "They're bright, juicy and perfectly summery, offering a refreshing change from all the sheer and neutral manicure trends we've been seeing lately."

When you’re going for a vivid hue on your nails, it can be mellowed slightly if your nails are a softer shape and slightly shorter. A crushed-berry or watermelon-pink like Queen Mary’s nail polish is also worth considering as it’s one of the more versatile sorbet shades.

As much as I love lemon-yellow, zesty lime and blackcurrant purple, they’re quite statement. In contrast, a bright pink complements a lot more colours when it comes to outfits.

For her outdoor-based engagement, the Queen of Denmark was dressed head-to-toe in practical staples, including a waterproof jacket, a gilet, a baseball cap and walking boots. Apart from her olive-green trousers, her outfit was all blue.

You might not immediately think of pairing navy and watermelon-pink together, but it looked stunning and her nails lifted the colour palette of her ensemble. The polish still felt sophisticated and grown-up for a Queen, whereas something like tangerine orange might be a bit too much.

To make it even more subtle, Queen Mary could also have opted to have the pink polish painted only on the tips of her nails. This would still nod to the sorbet nails trend in a low-key way.

Her Majesty has been loving her bright pink nails throughout May and she kept this colour on for so many high-profile engagements and occasions.

This included the 57th birthday celebrations for her husband, King Frederik on 26th May. The King’s mother Queen Margrethe and three of Frederik and Mary’s four children, Prince Vincent, Princess Isabella and Princess Josephine, appeared on the balcony of the Frederik VIII Palace in Copenhagen.

If, like me, you’re in need of some new spring outfit ideas then you’re in luck as Queen Mary of Denmark has just re-ignited my love of tailoring. Blazers, smart trousers and waistcoats might seem more of a cold-weather ensemble, but they really don’t have to be.

Not the way Queen Mary wore hers, anyway. She attended a concert at the Royal Danish Academy of Music on 6th May wearing a Max Mara blazer, collared waistcoat and wide-leg trousers.

One way to make tailored staples feel stylish and less business-wear is to step away from matching sets and mix up textures. Her Majesty’s jacket was a rose-pink shade and was crafted from breathable linen.

The fabric had a relaxed drape to it and the Queen used this to make her spring suit more of a smart casual outfit. Although it was single breasted and could be fastened at the front, she chose to wear it open.

This also meant that the rest of her Max Mara look could be appreciated as she arrived for the concert in Frederiksberg. I noticed that the waistcoat and palazzo trousers were the same ones Queen Mary’s stepped out in regularly since 2017.

It’s clear that despite the royals having a rather large clothing collection, they still have their favourite pieces like all of us do. The Max Mara Cariddi trousers and vest were made from silk panama and the creamy white shade was a bright contrast against her pink jacket.

The waistcoat also featured a blazer-style lapel collar and a streamlined waist belt for extra shaping. Pleats in the trousers gave them structure and there’s nothing I find more comfortable in the warmer months than wide-leg designs.

The loose, flowy silhouette is so easy to wear when it’s sunny. If you’ve ever been put-off the idea of wearing tailored trousers in the heat, then why not consider a pair of palazzo or wide-leg trousers instead? They have the same polished feel, but are breezy.

Queen Mary’s pairing of the pink blazer and white two-piece was a revelation to me too. Paler colours are perfect for the season and choosing different, breathable fabrics transformed this suit into something spring-appropriate.

Another detail that helped make Her Majesty’s outfit so chic was her shoes. She wore a pair of Gianvito Rossi heels with a subtle pink snake pattern and pointed toe.

These heels were barely visible under the voluminous trousers, but they were a fun addition that immediately caught my eye. Animal print remains a huge trend and all of the ways you’d style leopard print would work for snake patterns too.

Footwear and handbags are a great place to start with animal print as they don’t overwhelm the rest of your outfit and snake print tends to be quite delicate and neutral-toned. I love coordinating my accessories, but Queen Mary did the opposite for the concert.

Her bag was a beige-pink top handle design by Max Mara and I think she definitely made the right choice not to go for an animal print handbag. Keeping the pattern minimal tied in with the sophistication of the tailoring.

This was such a beautiful look for the concert, which she attended as Patron of the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Shorts can be a daunting item to style. If you don’t love the idea of showing so much of your legs in spring and summer, you might steer clear of them completely.

However, this doesn’t have to be the case - it just means you might not have been trying the right designs for your signature style. For an ageless, sophisticated take on wearing shorts we’re looking at Queen Mary of Denmark for inspiration.

She stepped out in Paris on April 2nd wearing long culottes with a matching belted jacket to make a smart co-ord. The shorts were tailored to perfection and fell to just below the knee, giving her outfit a very sophisticated feel.

If you’ve ever felt that denim shorts just wouldn’t fit into your spring capsule wardrobe, then something like Queen Mary’s culottes are a lovely alternative for warm days. Her long shorts were smarter and more polished, with crisp pleats running down the front.

Her Majesty wore this look for a visit to Notre-Dame Cathedral and tailored pieces are key French fashion staples to achieve a chic Parisian-esque look. Her Mark Kenly linen shorts were a soft grey which complemented the understated elegance of the design.

Neutral tones are always very versatile and the Queen wore a matching grey collarless jacket by the same designer. She then brought a pop of colour to her fashion-forward outfit with her deep burgundy knee high boots by Aquazzurra.

We’re embracing the warmer weather now spring is here but that doesn’t mean boot-wearing season is over. On breezy days knee high or ankle boots are still great options to keep your legs warm and longer, wide-leg shorts like Queen Mary’s can drape beautifully over the top of them.

It was a bold look and one that we certainly weren’t expecting to see from her during her and King Frederik’s official visit to France. We rarely see the royals wearing shorts at all, but she found a way to make them work for this high-profile trip by choosing a longer length.

To make long, tailored shorts more casual you could swap boots for your best white trainers and add a plain T-shirt or lightweight knit. For a date night look, we’d suggest wearing mules or loafers, a shirt and a blazer over the top.

Long shorts don’t have to be quite so formal, either. There are plenty of denim, cotton and linen Bermuda shorts around right now that are a little more modest and timeless than your typical short-shorts.

They’re also more practical for spring compared to shorter styles when it’s not boiling hot. Queen Mary of Denmark looked comfortable and stunning in Paris as she joined First Lady Brigitte Macron for a visit to Hôpital Foch.

Her Majesty and King Frederik also met with the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, took a sailing tour of the River Seine in the April sunshine and met the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet. This was the third and final day of their visit to France and it was a striking outfit for Queen Mary to end the trip with.

Just as roll neck jumpers and knee high boots will always be everywhere as soon as autumn arrives, spring and summer is the season where we see an abundance of floral midi dresses hitting the high street and online.

We have several in our collection and they make great wedding guest dresses as well as everyday outfits, depending on the material and silhouette. This year, though, we’ve been longing for something a little different and Queen Mary of Denmark has presented a floral maxi skirt as an equally elegant alternative. Her Majesty wore a floral Lasse Spangenberg skirt with a dramatic floor-sweeping hem for a Gala Dinner at the Élysée Palace on 31st March.

The event was hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron on Day 1 of Mary and King Frederik’s State Visit. We’re used to seeing the British Royal Family go all-out both when they host and attend State Banquets, wearing floor-length gowns, magnificent jewellery and often tiaras too.

In contrast, the Danish Queen went slightly more low-key but still dazzling on this occasion. Her maxi skirt was high-rise and had a fitted waistband that accentuated its fit-and-flare shape. Falling to an elegant maxi length, Queen Mary’s skirt also had plenty of volume thanks to the crisp pleats running down the front. It was grey and this neutral base made the delicate floral print shine even more in contrast.

Roses and other pink and white flowers wove their way across the skirt, surrounded by dark green leaves and beautiful pink birds. This design transformed an already stunning skirt into a work of art and it was perfect for this official gala dinner. The Queen of Denmark paired it with a Victoriana-style CLEA embroidered white shirt with blouson sleeves that was tucked neatly into the waistband for a seamless finish.

Although hers was an especially dramatic take on a floral maxi skirt, Queen Mary reminded us that we should never discount them as an alternative to dresses. They are great when you want a formal or smart-casual outfit as the longer length naturally feels quite elevated. You can dress them down by wearing a maxi skirt with a loose T-shirt and plimsoll trainers or espadrilles, or dress them up with high heels and a silky shirt.

Whilst you can of course style a midi dress in multiple ways, you can make a skirt look radically different with a lot less effort and they are even more versatile because of this. Her Majesty wore her skirt and blouse with a pair of Gianvito Rossi court shoe heels in beige satin and a fun, pearl-embellished clutch by Anya Hindmarch.

This bag is sadly no longer available but pearl bags are continuing to have a moment right now so there are plenty of alternatives out there that give a similar glamorous edge to an outfit. The Queen has had a lot of use out of hers so far in 2025 as she also brought this clutch on her and King Frederik’s State Visit to Finland in March.

The couple are in France until 2nd April and we can look forward to seeing Queen Mary wearing some more elegant outfits before they return to Denmark.

Queen Mary’s 53rd birthday was celebrated with the release of a special new picture and her blossom-toned outfit was gorgeous.

If winter is the time where we see burgundy, chocolate brown and navy blue everywhere, then spring is all about the pastels. However, we don’t have to feel restricted about what colours we wear in what season and we’ve started to dream of wearing cosy outfits that have a nod to spring with their tone. Clearly, we’re not the only ones as Queen Mary of Denmark just gave us all a masterclass in styling pastels in winter with her 2025 birthday picture.

Pastel pinks are one of the biggest spring/summer fashion trends for 2025 and the combination of the pink and white together conjured up images of springtime blossom. Queen Mary’s top could either have been a blouse or a knit, but either way it had a wonderful structured silhouette. The high mock neckline was great for chilly winter days and the long fluted sleeves gave it a dramatic edge without being too out-there.

Sleeves are an often overlooked part of a top or jumper but they make such a difference to how they look. Fluted or flared sleeves like the ones on Queen Mary’s top naturally feel more elevated and fashion-forward than a classic cuffed design and yet the neutral colour meant it would still be simple to style with so many different staples.

The senior royal wore her jumper tucked carefully into a pale pink skirt that accentuated the femininity of her outfit with its floral lace detailing. The lace covered this entire skirt and although this was a more statement item, wearing it with a plain white jumper balanced it beautifully.

We sadly couldn’t see a lot of Queen Mary’s skirt in her birthday portrait, but it appeared to have delicate pleats and was likely a midi length. Like many of her fellow royals, including the Princess of Wales, the Queen of Denmark tends to reach for longer skirts and dresses and we’d expect it to be the same with this one too.

When you’re styling pastels opting for more timeless, elegant silhouettes always works a treat and many of us will have black, white or cream tops and knits in our winter capsule wardrobe already that could be worn with pink skirts.

To make an outfit like Queen Mary’s outdoor-appropriate in this current weather we could add a white coat and a pair of beige or tan boots, though she didn’t need these layers inside the palace. She kept the rest of her look very pared-back and wore two gold bangles and a pair of drop earrings which were just visible amongst her glossy brunette tresses. Her lipstick was a rose-pink hue that tied in with her skirt and we would suspect that her shoes were pink heels.

Queen Mary’s blossom-toned outfit shows that even though we’re still very much in winter, spring colours can be a lovely way to switch up our style.

Queen Mary of Denmark just wore the chicest outdoorsy outfit, with her waterproof khaki co-ord perfectly blending practicality with style - paired it with a plum beanie and pair of oh-so warm gloves, it's the ultimate outdoors look.

Waterproof clothes are a winter capsule wardrobe staple, with the cool, wet and windy weather of the season demanding practicality if we want to keep warm and dry while out on hikes or in nature. But they're not always the easiest thing to style and pull off.

But Queen Mary has proved that it is possible to look oh-so chic in waterproofing clothing. Stepping out to see the restoration work completed by the Danish Nature Foundation in Lerbjerg Forest on 30th January, she bundled up in a stunning waterproof co-ord with the matching Dynamic Eco Anorak by Laksen and Laksen Ladies Dynamic Eco Hunting Trousers creating an appropriately practical style for the walk.

The slim-fit trousers, with their relaxed though flattering straight leg, were a perfect choice for the appearance. Sleek and figure-hugging, though still comfortable and allowing for ease of movement, they don't have the same puffy silhouette that other waterproof gear tends to. And without the popular tapered leg look many other styles boast, this straight style leaves the entire outfit feeling a lot more sophisticated and casually elegant.

The khaki green a beautiful shade and one that will always be popular - and not just with outdoors and hiking gear but across the board as the tone is one we're going to seeing a lot with all the Spring/Summer fashion trends for 2025.

Matching the tone of her waterproof coat to the trousers was a great styling choice that added a lovely monochrome flair to the look and Queen Mary looked stunning in the relaxed-fit piece. With a thigh-grazing hemline, slightly oversized silhouette and tonnes of practical pockets, the half-zip style is perfect for any outdoors event.

Leaning into the sleek look of the monochrome outfit trend, Mary added a pair of khaki boots and a matching pair of gloves to her look. The Laksen Moscow Gloves she chose are a pair that really challenge the idea that gloves are just gloves and are really all the same - this pair boast thermal insulation, are both wind and waterproof, and feature a closing strap on the instep for ultimate protection from the elements. If you're a hiker, or just feel the cold a lot when walking the dog in the winter, they're sure to become a staple.

With a pair of practical flat boots keeping her feet warm and protected from the elements, Mary finished off her outfit with a plum-coloured beanie hat. The tone offsets the khaki perfectly and brings in a dash of warm-toned colour. We love the complimentary shade and it looks especially stunning against her rich brunette hair, which she left to fall across her shoulders in a on-trend tousled style.

Queen Mary wore the most sensational amber-orange coat with a grey knit and boots on Christmas Eve and it was a masterclass in styling bold colours.

When the weather is cold and miserable we often find ourselves longing to brighten up our days with some vibrant colours, but styling them isn’t always easy. Many of us might be a little unsure about how to incorporate bold shades into our winter capsule wardrobe, but Queen Mary of Denmark has reminded us that the simplest approach can often be the best. Her Majesty stepped out with her husband King Frederik, their children and her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe to attend the Christmas Eve service at Aarhus Cathedral and wore a fabulous amber cashmere MaxMara coat.

The pop of orange instantly got our attention and whilst the colour made an instant statement, the silhouette was very timeless which helped to balance it perfectly. Queen Mary’s wrap coat had smart lapels and was secured at the waist with a matching tie belt.

It fell to an elegant midi length which meant it would be easy to style with longer dresses and skirts underneath, as well as with trousers or jeans. On this occasion we didn’t get much of a glimpse of the rest of Her Majesty’s outfit, but her charcoal-grey roll-neck jumper from Prada was visible above the sweeping V-neckline of her coat.

When it comes to the best cashmere jumpers and wool knits worth investing in, we would often advise going for neutral tones so that you can get the most wear out of your pieces. Black, white, grey or camel jumpers go with everything and will never go out of style. Queen Mary’s grey knit was a wonderful choice to style with her coat as it ensured that the amber-orange shade was the focus of her outfit and that it wasn’t overwhelmed.

It might sound simple but it can be so effective to just pick one statement shade like she did and wear it with all neutral pieces. This approach makes wearing brighter colours much easier as you don’t need to worry about colour-clashing and choosing a vibrant coat is a brilliant option, even if you’re not a fan of burnt orange like Queen Mary clearly is.

A lot of the time during the winter the only part of our outfits that anyone really sees is our coat and so opting for outerwear in a bolder colour is sure to make an impact. Jewel tones like burgundy, sapphire blue or emerald green are stunning alternatives to orange that are always popular in the colder months, or if you prefer pastel hues then a powder blue or blossom pink coat would also be lovely. For a more subtle take on styling bold colours, adding brightness with your knitwear is also so effective.

At the Christmas Eve service Queen Mary of Denmark upheld the orange and grey outfit theme with her accessories and wore a pair of knee high suede Gianvito Rossi boots. These were a light dove grey and had a chic pointed toe and stiletto heel. Her Chloe bag had a scalloped design on the flap and was primarily fiery shades of orange that coordinated with her cashmere coat.

This was such a gorgeous winter look and was the last outfit we saw from Queen Mary in 2024. With many more months of cold weather ahead we can’t wait to see if she re-wears her amber-toned coat in the not-too-distant future.

Queen Mary of Denmark’s festive knit is the perfect low-key alternative to snowman and reindeer-covered jumpers and can be worn in the New Year.

We love a cheery festive jumper adorned with reindeers and snowmen, but they’re not something we’ll be reaching for come January. Given we want to make the most of our winter capsule wardrobe we’ve seen eyeing up some more subtle alternatives this year. For the time between Christmas and New Year - and well into January too - a classy festive knit is perfect and Queen Mary of Denmark just wore one of our favourites. Her Majesty attended the WeShelter Food Club Event on 17th December wearing a low-key snowflake-patterned knitted vest.

She layered it over a simple long-sleeved charcoal grey shirt and the vest took centre stage as the focal point of her outfit. This piece from Max Mara is sadly almost sold out (although it’s now reduced to £139 in one size at Flannels) and given how quickly Christmas is approaching, we can see why, though it’s not overly “festive” which is why we love it so much.

The white detailing on the front stands out against the black background of this roll neck vest and keeping to a monochrome colour palette is part of what makes this piece so understated. Neutral tones like black and white are incredibly versatile as they work with any other shade - something that Christmassy red and green don’t!

Queen Mary’s festive knit is made from a luxurious wool and cashmere blend and the pattern resembles a stylised snowflake but is inspired by a Fair Isle pattern too. This means that whilst it definitely has a slight yuletide feel to it, this knitted vest is quite classic and traditional and can easily be worn throughout the rest of winter as well as the festive period.

A knitted vest is a brilliant layering piece that brings a different design element and extra warmth on extra chilly days but you can also take inspiration from Queen Mary’s outfit when it comes to jumpers too. Whether you love the best cashmere jumpers, wool knits or blended fabrics, there are so many options out there which have a more Fair Isle-esque wintry design like hers and come in easy-to-style shades.

The Queen of Denmark wore her knitted vest with a timeless grey shirt and wide-leg tailored trousers from Joseph. The crisp pleat running down the front of her trousers gave them a smart feel that helped to balance out the slightly more relaxed vest.

The soft grey shade worked so well with the black and white knit too and when she was outside, Her Majesty also wore a black longline coat from Arma which she left draped open, giving a better glimpse of her vest. This was the perfect pared-back outfit with a seasonal nod for her pre-Christmas visit to WeShelter’s Food Club event in Copenhagen.

Queen Mary became Patron of WeShelter in May 2024 and this vital organisation works to help provide better conditions for people who are homeless, as well as those who are socially vulnerable.

Queen Mary has become the latest royal to embrace a velvet suit this December and her deep purple outfit was truly sensational.

If you’re still looking for the perfect Christmas party outfit and want something that can be re-styled outside of the festive season then a velvet suit is something that ticks so many boxes and it’s right on-trend this December. So many people have been opting for velvet co-ords over sparkly dresses, including royals like Queen Letizia of Spain and Zara Tindall. Now Queen Mary of Denmark has shown her own take on this seasonal style and her blackcurrant purple velvet suit is a gorgeous way to go for party season.

She stepped out in this velvet Temperley London two piece alongside her husband King Frederik as they attended an event hosted by Egypt’s President Abdel Farrah el-Sisi during his two-day State Visit to Denmark. The suit was the brand’s stunning Clove design and this also comes with a velvet waistcoat that can turn it into a three-piece suit too.

Although there are so many beautiful shades available in the £700 Clove Velvet Jacket and the matching £450 Clove Trousers, one colour not currently on the website is the exact purple worn by Queen Mary. It’s possible that this was either custom created or has since sold-out and either way we can totally see why Her Majesty went for this.

The purple hue is something a little different to the black, navy and burgundy velvet suits we’ve been seeing so much of this winter, but is equally easy to wear with neutrals and metallics. A deep jewel-tone like this is also wonderful at accentuating the sheen of velvet and giving it an even more luxurious feel. Even if you’re not sure about adding a full velvet suit to your winter capsule wardrobe, a velvet jacket or trousers are lovely pieces to have in your collection for party season and beyond.

To dress a velvet jacket down, throw over a cosy roll neck jumper and a pair of jeans and finish off your look with trainers or flat Chelsea boots. Similar footwear and knitwear would also work to make velvet trousers or skirts feel a little less formal. However, for a special occasion this festive season it doesn’t come much more spectacular than a co-ord like Queen Mary’s.

Queen Mary of Denmark just showcased how to have fun with a favourite dress by adding fresh pops of colour and texture – and it's a lesson in accessorising we're banking for the festive season and beyond.

Stepping out at Copenhagen University's annual party on 8 November, Queen Mary turned to her beautifully flattering forest green 'Yahvi' wool dress by British fashion brand Beulah that we've seen her wear before. It's well cut, has beautiful button detailing and its wool makeup must have offered her plenty of warmth without needing the bulk of extra layers. We can see why she loves it. But it was the pairing with bright berry-red earrings and snakeskin heels that carried the look from classic to fashion-forward with aplomb.

You don't need me to tell you that green and red are a complementary colour pairing; their opposite natures making one another pop when paired. Nonetheless, it's a combination you may have shied away from in the past, for fear of looking too Christmassy (or is that just me?). Here though, it's easy to see how the bright red, akin to fresh holly berries, gives the royal's whole complexion a lift as it contrasts with the deep, wintery green.

Layered in to the mix, Queen Mary took the so-far relatively simple and seasonal look to fashionable new places with the addition of snakeskin heels. As we saw with Sienna Miller's snakeskin boots and Davina McCall's leopard print heels on the red carpet, footwear is a neat way to (literally) dip your toe into the animal and leopard print trend without the full commitment of, say, a leopard print dress or trousers.

When two of our favourite royals, Kate Middleton and Queen Mary, met back in 2022, we knew we were going to get a pair of stunning outfits out of the engagement - and the beautiful winter coats the royals opted to wear did not disappoint.

As much as we would love to wear heeled boots and a fur jacket for the rest of the season, some occasions call for something a little more practical. Queen Mary of Denmark brought out her best safari look in khaki cargos and and a sage green button-up that look surprisingly chic styled with her Gucci sunnies.

Finished off with a pair of hiking boots, this is a look that works perfectly for any manner of hike. The best walking shoes may not be the most fashion-forward item you own, but they offer endless practicality year-round - particularly in wet weather.

Mary's look was finished with a wide-brimmed hat reminiscent of old-school Hollywood style, which the royal removed once the rain started in exchange for a large umbrella. We're giving extra style points for the rich blue-toned brolly that matched Mary's skirt and jacket.  

Queen Mary was visiting Vejle Harbour in Denmark as part of her and King Frederik's summer tour when she debuted the gorgeously chic outfit. Unfazed by the storm, she looked happy and relaxed alongside her husband as they completed the last leg of their tour around the country. During the visit, the couple dropped in on local businesses in the area, including Kong Gaurs Gård, a daycare centre in Vejle, and the manufacturing company Welcon A/S.

Prepared for all weather - and terrain - the Queen of Denmark slipped into some sensible shoes when the weather got more stormy, swapping her Gianvito Rossi Ascent 85 Pink Leather Pumps for some stylish ballet flats.

Earlier this week, the Danish royal visited Vejle Harbour in Denmark as part of her's and King Frederik's summer tour, stepping out in an appropriately nautical-inspired outfit for the occasion.

Channeling vintage glamour, Mary looked stunning in a navy, A-line polka-dot midi skirt and cropped, collarless blazer from Prada. The skirt's flattering 50s-style and voluminous silhouette brought a much more formal look to the outfit than Mary's previous polka-dot skirt that she wore during the Olympic Games in Paris earlier this year would have, proving the versatility of the dainty print and how different styles can bring totally different looks despite their similarities.

Juxtaposing the dainty pattern on the skirt, which is from the brand Baum und Pferdgarten, Mary opted for a printed blouse from Proenza Schouler. The abstract pattern on the blouse brought a modern twist to the nautical style, adding some texture and fun into the outfit.

But the real star of the show here is Mary's oversized hat - we love it! While the sun didn't make much of an appearance during Mary's visit, the accessory ensured her hair wasn't billowing all over the place and we can see stylish hats like this becoming an autumn staple for those windy days where your strands just can't be tamed.

Stepping away from the red-dominated outfits we've been seeing her in throughout the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris so far, our favourite being her ravishing red jumpsuit, Queen Mary has stunned in a floating polka dot midi skirt and a pair of vintage sandals. 

The now discontinued midi skirt from designer label Ganni features hundreds of tiny white polka dots on a deep, navy fabric, with the royal pulling the lighter shade through her outfit with the addition of a simple, relaxed white button up shirt. 

Battling the heat Paris is currently experiencing - heat that's forced fellow royal Princess Anne to debut a more casual style than we're used to from her in her TeamGB bucket hat - Queen Mary kept the simple white shirt's top few buttons undone for a casual feel and rolled up her sleeves, showing off a number of dainty gold bracelets and bangles lining her arms. 

For shoes, the royal opted for a pair of vintage Prada gladiator sandals, with the strappy design keeping her cool as she strolled through the Olympic village. The shoes can be found, if you're lucky, selling on eBay or sites like Poshmark but, as they're vintage, the quality is not always great and searching out the perfect size can be a challenge.

The royal carried her trusty Chloe Marcie Pochette cross body bag as she has done for the entirety of her Parisian trip, and accessorised with her go-to gold necklaces that pay tribute to her husband King Fredrik with their gold 'F' initial charm, and to herself with an 'M' letter charm too.

At this time of year white jeans outfits really come into their own and add an instant summery feel to an outfit, however not everyone is a fan of wearing denim in the hot weather. White jeans can also be tricky to style, but Queen Mary of Denmark has showcased how white trousers work beautifully as an alternative. She went all-out in the colours of the Danish flag when she attended a reception in Paris prior to the 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony and opted for a vibrant red blouse with wide-leg white trousers. The Jesper Høvring wrap blouse had long blouson sleeves that ended in a fitted cuff, which accentuated their gorgeous drape.

The v-neckline and wrap design of Queen Mary’s blouse was elegant and the colour not only paid tribute to Denmark, but added a splash of vibrant colour into her look.

Her Majesty proved this in style at the reception when she tucked her blouse into her white trousers. It might sound simple but sticking to only a few colours is a great way to ensure your outfit is polished and put-together and the contrast of the red and white in Queen Mary’s look was so striking. 

Her trousers were the wide-leg Gytta Trousers by Andiata in the chalk white shade, although they also come in black and two herringbone designs too. They’re high waisted and full length and this is such a flattering combination if you want to accentuate your waist and create more of an hourglass silhouette with your outfits. They also have handy side pockets and belt loops which Queen Mary took full advantage of as she added a slim tan belt to further accentuate the high waisted fit.

White trousers are a brilliant alternative to white jeans if you want to have a neutral outfit base that can be made more formal or casual. They can be styled in the same way as you would a pair of jeans, such as adding a vibrant top for a pop of colour like Queen Mary did. You could also wear a black top for an equally neutral contrast, or a white T-shirt or blouse for a full monochrome look. In hot weather wide-leg trousers are so comfy too, especially if they’re made from breathable cotton or linen, and they look stunning draped over flat sandals or your best white trainers for a more dressed-down approach. 

On this occasion, the Queen dressed up her outfit even more with a pair of Valentino Rockstud leather heels in a scarlet tone. She finished off her look with a tan Chloe crossbody bag, but in a clever move she decided to wear it with the strap tucked in to transform it into a clutch. We feel that Queen Mary’s full outfit was incredibly timeless and focused on putting together key staples to make a real impact which is something we can all take inspiration from. For the gala dinner which took place the night before the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, we could just spot a bronze clutch bag in her hand outside the Louvre. Both highlight how well tan and browns go with red and how versatile Queen Mary’s flowing red jumpsuit really is. 

The colour of her jumpsuit also reflects how red is one of the principal colours of the Danish flag and we can't wait to see what else Her Majesty wears during her time in France.

We all have our staple summer outfit staples, whether it’s a linen co-ord, a Broderie Anglaise shirt or a pair of the best white trainers. On really hot days we might find ourselves reaching for shorts or a dress, but the humble maxi skirt is another brilliant option. Maxi skirts are every bit as versatile as white trousers or shorts with all the elegance of a dress and Queen Mary of Denmark just delivered some serious style inspiration with hers. The senior royal was photographed at Gråsten Castle with King Frederik on 12th July wearing a look that was as easy to wear as it was stylish.

The skirt was plain and unfussy with a gorgeous drape to it and its beauty lies in quite how simple the design is. The A-line silhouette and neutral colour means that Queen Mary could easily re-wear this piece with any other item in her summer capsule wardrobe. The soft fabric is great for daytime wear as it’s a little more relaxed and this helps to balance out its full length which can sometimes make maxi skirts seem quite formal.

You could easily style this summer staple piece with a T-shirt or blouse, though the Queen of Denmark went for a ribbed white top that was left untucked for an even more comfortable yet chic feel. 

Over the top she added a maxi cardigan by Mirror in the Sky which had a tie dye pattern of muted slate blue and gold. These splashes of colour were playful and introduced a tonal contrast into Queen Mary’s outfit.

Described as a coat by the brand, this was made from superfine, breathable cashmere with an open front and dropped shoulders. A light layer is always lovely to have on breezier summer days or to keep the sun off your shoulders. Queen Mary finished off her look with a pair of Arteana slides with a neutral beige and tan pattern. 

We’re used to seeing senior royals wearing court shoe heels or slingbacks for official appearances but since she and King Frederik took up residence at their summer home, Gråsten Castle, it seems Queen Mary is embracing comfier holiday-esque footwear. Slides are brilliant slip-on shoes and are a bit more elevated than a pair of flip flops for when you want to be comfy and still look put-together.

This balance was achieved perfectly by the Queen as she and King Frederik reviewed the Changing of the Guard in the courtyard. Her brown sunglasses protected her eyes from the sunshine and her long brunette hair framed her face with plenty of volume to it. This is the first time King Frederik and Queen Mary have spent the summer in Gråsten since becoming King and Queen of Denmark earlier this year, following the abdication of Queen Margrethe.

They might only have been there a few days so far but if Queen Mary’s summer outfits continue to be as stunning as this one then we’re excited to see what other staples we might be missing in our wardrobe.

Her Majesty has always had impeccable fashion sense and arrived in Gråsten for her and King Frederik’s summer residence switch-over in style this year. The couple walked up through the town to their summer residence, Gråsten Castle and Queen Mary wore a ME+EM Shadow Berry Print Maxi Dress in the cream and green colourway. As often happens with the royal pieces you’d most like to add to your summer capsule wardrobe, this is now almost completely sold out and we can totally see why Queen Mary fell for it.

It has a tiered A-line skirt with a feminine flared hem and a fitted bodice that features a very subtle keyhole detail. The short puffed sleeves accentuate the whimsical pattern which couldn’t be more beautiful for this time of year.

If there’s one thing we gravitate towards when looking for the best wedding guest dresses or dresses in general in summer, it’s pastel tones. Queen Mary’s maxi dress had a cream base colour which allowed the delicacy of the sage green floral print to really shine through. This soft green shade is utterly stunning and was enhanced with minimal pops of rose pink and lemon yellow making up the flower buds and the muted grey-green of the leaves’ shadows. 

Anyone who’s not a fan of ditsy florals might find this more illustrative, botanical style of print to be a great way to wear this popular trend. The Queen didn’t need to layer over her dress on such a bright sunny day in Gråsten, but a linen blazer would also have looked fabulous draped over her shoulders or worn done up on cooler days.

She instead went all-out with her accessories and added a Canopy Bay ‘Malibu’ hat which has a broader, trilby shape to it and a pretty navy and neutral-toned ribbon running around it. This also has a handy internal ComfyFit size adjuster to help ensure that it fitted Queen Mary perfectly and wasn’t likely to blow off her head if the weather turned breezier. The pale beige of the woven fabric worked perfectly with Queen Mary’s floral dress and also coordinated with her Tod's peep toe wedges. 

Crafted from gorgeous suede, these added a textural contrast to her look and wedges are go-to summer shoes for so many people as an alternative to stiletto heels or your best white trainers. Having an open toe design made these more fun and the combination of shoes, floral dress and hat was such a glamorous, yet wearable look from Queen Mary.

She and King Frederik looked happy and completely at ease as they received bouquets of flowers and greeted well-wishers before making their way up to Gråsten Castle. Their decision to walk might have influenced Queen Mary’s shoe choice and this year marks the first time the couple have spent a summer castle since becoming King and Queen in January following Queen Margrethe’s abdication. 

They’re not the only royals who spend a portion of the summer months at a different royal residence, with the Spanish Royal Family traditionally heading to Marivent Palace in Mallorca. The British Royal Family tends to gather at Balmoral Castle in Scotland and it’s expected that King Charles and Queen Camilla will continue this tradition this year too.

Summer is filled with events, from weddings to family BBQs and garden parties, and whilst we might be tempted to stick to our favourite dresses and best jumpsuits, long skirts are a beautiful option. Skirts are a staple in Queen Mary’s wardrobe and her floral print maxi skirt for her son Crown Prince Christian’s graduation on 25th June is one of our favourites. Queen Mary opted for a Zimmerman Edie skirt made from breathable linen which was the perfect blend of statement and subtle. The background tone was a creamy white which balanced out the fun floral pattern.

This pattern reminded us of Zara Tindall’s botanical print dress at Royal Ascot earlier this month with its intricate, illustrated look. Rich amber, orange and gold tones ran through it, with pops of powder blue running along the bottom hem of Queen Mary’s maxi skirt. The combination of colours looked amazing on a sunny day but they would also look spectacular in autumn.

Having a more neutral base tone ensured that the pattern wasn’t overwhelming and made this skirt slightly easier to style. Queen Mary tucked in a Bagutta white shirt which allowed her skirt to do all the talking and accessorised with a pair of tan sandals from Gianvito Rossi. 

They had a mid-height stiletto heel and a section that ran across her foot, as well as an ankle strap which helped to keep them secure. The barely-there design was timeless and had a leg-elongating effect whilst the warm undertones tied in perfectly with the floral print of Her Majesty’s skirt. 

In summer so many of us reach for our best white trainers or a pair of espadrilles but neutral barely-there sandals with a heel you’re comfortable with are great for elevating evening looks or for special events in hot weather. Alternatively, if heels of any height just aren’t for you then a pair of barely-there flat sandals gives a similarly flattering final look. 

Given that Queen Mary was attending Crown Prince Christian’s graduation during the day, it’s perhaps no surprise that her bag of choice was a relaxed one and not a more formal clutch or top-handle bag. For this family occasion she carried a slouchy Prada tote in a beige colour that complemented the rest of her look. It had plenty of space for all her essentials and the woven design gave her outfit some texture. 

The Queen of Denmark accentuated this smart-casual styling by keeping her glossy brunette hair loose around her shoulders. Her makeup was glowy and fresh and she added a simple pair of hoop earrings to finish off her outfit. Just a few days earlier Queen Mary stepped out in a vibrant orange floral dress with matching heels and statement earrings as she hosted the Maratonsang event at Vartov College. We can’t help hoping we’ll see some more stand-out looks from her featuring bold colours and patterns this summer.

Queen Mary Of Denmark has shown why bright prints should be a staple in your wardrobe, perfectly sporting a bold orange look with a pair of gorgeous statement earrings.

The Australian-born monarch was in full bloom as she hosted the Maratonsang event at Vartov College in Copenhagen last week. Crowds gathered inside the university courtyard and sang until the late evening, as Queen Mary led the traditional solstice celebration.

While we didn’t get to hear the Danish royal sing, she definitely struck the right note with her outfit.

Pictured arriving at the campus on Friday June 21st, Queen Mary nailed one of 2024's biggest fashion colour trends in a bold orange and white printed Acadian High Neck Dress from Zimmermann, which is now available for £415 instead of £695. With its large tropical blooms, the striking shirt dress was perfect for the summer weather and is providing us with the urge to branch out into orange dressing this season.

The gorgeous floral piece features a sweet rounded neckline and gathered sleeves, which elevate the already feminine number. Despite its slightly looser fit, the A-Line skirt and white seam at the waist perfectly emphasised Mary's silhouette.

When it came to accessorising, Mary's statement drop earrings expertly adhered to this year's jewellery trends. Her dangly tiered earrings with amber and aquamarine beads complemented the colour palette of her look beautifully.

And Mary's shoes of choice were perfect, too. She opted for a stunning pair of ochre coloured pumps from Malone Souilers. While a pair of your best white trainers would look super stylish with a vibrant orange midi dress like Mary's, the heels helped the Danish royal put her best foot forward with a touch of elegance during the traditional celebration.

Having made a statement with her tropical-print dress, Queen Mary sported pared back make-up with a soft dewy finish. Though she wore a smokey eye, it was a light brown shadow that perfectly highlighted her deep chocolate coloured eyes.

Opting for a similarly subtle lip, the royal wore a slick of dusty pink with a shade that wasn’t too dissimilar from her natural lips.

Practicality has never looked so chic, with Queen Mary stepping out in utility pants, an outdoorsy gilet and a pair of walking boots for a recent royal engagement.

Replicate Queen Mary's Outdoorsy Look

Visiting Ulsrudvann in Ostmarka, a place of particular natural beauty that prides itself on conserving nature and biodiversity as well as being a place for city-dwellers to get into nature, Mary opted for an appropriately outdoorsy look. 

Pairing a Moncler padded navy gilet (one of the best summer coat options) with a pair of muted green utility trousers, the royal kept her outfit simple with a black long-sleeve top and black hiking boots. But while the look was laid back and subtle, the impeccable fit of each of her pieces, especially the flattering straight-leg utility trousers, elevated the outfit into one just as chic as it was practical.  

Further adding some flair to her outfit, Mary kept her hair down, styling it with a loose curl to add some texture and frame her face. 

Her makeup was similarly minimal. Perfecting the no make-up make-up look, her skin looked impossibly dewy and bronzed with just a slight contouring eyeshadow look on her lids. A berry-pink, long-lasting lipstick finished the look.

When it comes to putting together a summer capsule wardrobe accessories are key as they add a touch of detail or a pop of colour to even the most simple of outfits. For Queen Mary of Denmark’s latest visit it was a pair of ballet pumps and a fedora hat that added the final flourish to her vintage-inspired outfit. Known for her gorgeous suits and stunning array of coats in winter, Queen Mary embraced the sunny weather on her and King Frederik's State Visit to Norway. 

She strolled along the waterfront in Oslo for an architectural tour wearing a collarless white shirt tucked into a navy midi skirt. The combination was the epitome of elegance and evoked a sense of old school glamour, especially with her choice of accessories.

Queen Mary tucked her shirt into the ultra high-rise skirt which had a flatteringly fitted waistband and structured pleats. These added dimension to the otherwise very soft look and the navy blue and white together was a beautiful contrast. These very neutral pieces are so easy to mix and match with other items and Queen Mary coordinated her hat with her outfit tones. She opted for a textured fedora with navy piping around the base.

Crafted by Australian brand Canopy Bay, Queen Mary’s hat was the perfect choice to shield her from the sun’s rays in such a chic way. Sticking to the practical yet stylish theme with her footwear, Her Majesty steered away from the huge spring/summer shoe trends and went for a pair of Chanel ballet flats.

Ballet flats are a classic for a reason and hers were a two-toned design incorporating a nude-beige upper with a black toe cap. The low heel made these so functional for her walking around Oslo and the tiny bow detail was subtle and feminine. A pair of ballet flats is ideal if you want to dress an outfit up without compromising on comfort and look just as beautiful with your best jeans and tailored trousers as they do with dresses or skirts like Queen Mary’s.

The warm undertone of her beige shoes was echoed in her tan Chloe “Marcie” bag, tying them together beautifully. The crossbody bag showcased how even neutral tones can inject a pop of colour into an outfit and the rich tan brown leather stood out against her shirt and skirt in such an impactful way. 

Queen Mary finished off her sunny day look with a pair of black Gucci sunglasses and left her glossy brunette tresses loose and in gentle waves under her hat. Like many of her fellow royals Queen Mary of Denmark is often seen wearing some stand-out hats, both formal and more casual like her fedora.  

Back in October she once again oozed vintage-inspired glamour in a black hat reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn and when it comes to clothes, Queen Mary is committed to wearing timeless pieces she can pass on.

“I keep clothes that I think my daughters will inherit one day. Other clothes are passed on to people who can benefit from them,” she shared back in 2019, as per Vogue Australia. 

Kate Middleton reportedly "tore up" the royal rulebook to pursue a “firm friendship” with Queen Mary of Denmark outside the usual channels.

The Princess of Wales is one of the most senior members of the British Royal Family but she’s not afraid to push certain boundaries when it comes to royal protocol. In recent years she and Prince William have been taking a more personal approach at engagements, agreeing to be in selfies. Now it’s been suggested that behind-the-scenes Kate has been doing things her own way too. She reportedly “tore up” the rulebook to reach out to Mary of Denmark in her own way "years ago", helping to form a “firm friendship” with her.

The Princess of Wales hasn't publicly sent a message to King Frederik X and Queen Mary since they ascended the throne on 14th January following Queen Margrethe’s abdication. However, it’s likely that she might have done so privately, with a source claiming to OK! that she and the new Queen swapped numbers years ago.

“Kate and Mary swapped phone numbers several years ago and often reach out to each other via text message,” they alleged. “Those kinds of things are usually done through officials or aides, but Kate and Mary tore up the rule book to allow their friendship to flow and grow naturally.”

According to the source, the Princess of Wales and Queen Mary’s bond initially revolved around exchanging advice on etiquette and their public image. This has now apparently evolved into a much more personal friendship, with everything from their children to fashion coming up in their conversations.

The source stated, “Their friendship started very much focused on discussing royal engagements and etiquette and how best to present themselves to the public, but it has become more personable over time, and they are now firm friends. They often chat about the children and what’s going on in their personal lives. They also discuss the very similar roles they have to undertake and even swap style tips from time to time."

Until 14th January, Queen Mary was Crown Princess Mary, meaning she and Kate held the same rank within their respective royal families. The two royals have been seen together plenty of times, including when Kate visited Denmark in 2022.

During this trip she stepped out in one of her best winter coats with Queen Mary for a visit to the Danner Crisis Centre in Copenhagen. She also met with Queen Margrethe at Christian IX's Palace and the three of them posed for photographs together.

Reflecting upon this trip the BBC’s former royal correspondent Jennie Bond has expressed her belief to OK! that Queen Mary and the Princess of Wales have unique positions and clearly get on very well. Because of this, she thinks it’s “hard to resist” the idea that they could be friends confiding in each other.

“The warmth between the two was obvious during that visit and I’m sure they found plenty to talk about when they lunched together,” Jennie said. “It’s hard to resist the idea that they shared some thoughts about metamorphosing from ordinary girls to royal princesses and future Queens.”

Jennie continued, "There certainly aren’t many other women they could share their experience with, so it’s incredibly tempting to imagine that they shared a glass of wine and a few private thoughts. But they are now royals through and through – and with that goes total discretion.”

Whether or not their ‘discretion’ means they keep things at a less personal level in their friendship, Queen Mary and Kate certainly look comfortable and happy in each other’s company on the occasions where their royal lives have brought them together publicly.
