The Princess of Wales made an special visit to Colchester Hospital in south-east England at the start of July, where she met with cancer patients and spoke frankly about her own experiences, both during and post-treatment.

Offering rare insight into the "roller coaster" she had experienced, and the difficulty in "finding a new normal", the Princess’s words were deeply personal and moving. So was her choice of jewelry, as the senior royal opted for a simple gold necklace with a garnet set into the pendant.

The flash of red was understated enough not to detract attention from her work, though the garnet stone could be seen as very meaningful indeed. As one of the oldest known gemstones, it's thought to have several different spiritual and symbolic connotations.

The name garnet comes from the Latin word "granatum", which means grains or seeds. It also makes up part of the botanical name for pomegranates (Punica granatum), and this makes sense as the deep red seeds of this fruit do resemble garnets.

Jewelry experts Brilliant Earth claim that, "Throughout history, garnet has symbolized light, faith, and truth and has been used in various cultures for its perceived protective and healing properties."

Meanwhile, With Clarity describes garnets as being regarded a "stone that keeps wearers safe". They suggest that garnets are worn "to protect and balance the wearers by helping to feel grounded. In addition to protection, it's said that this stunning gemstone brings love, luck, health, loyalty, and friendship to people who wear it".

As well as the light, healing and optimistic associations, garnets are also the traditional January birthstone – which is, after all, Kate's birth month. Royal Editor at woman&home, Emma Shacklock, believes that this was likely a factor in the Princess's choice of necklace.

"Whilst we'll never know exactly why she decided to wear it for this specific engagement, it's always possible that the symbolism surrounding garnets played a part. However, I do think that Kate probably picked up this piece in the first place (or was gifted it) because it featured her birthstone.

"The royals love personalised jewelry, and she is no exception."

The Princess of Wales famously wore this garnet necklace in a joyful video shared on social media for the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee. In it, she was baking cakes for the celebrations with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and having fun making memories with them.

She's had the garnet necklace in her collection for at least a few years and it's a simple enough piece that she's happy to wear it at home as well as for official duties.

The Princess of Wales has also been spotted wearing different garnet items on a number of occasions before, including during a visit to Pontypridd in Wales in early 2025. For engagements there, she had a pair of red drop earrings in.

She also has a rose gold ring, rumored to have been given to her by Prince William very early on in their relationship. Often worn on her right middle finger, the ring features three alternating garnets and two pearls, which are Prince William's birthstone.

When is a diamond not a girl's best friend? When it's cursed.

It's easy to be dazzled by the Royals' best tiara moments or to look on enviously as people showcase their gems or objects that are steeped in centuries of history. But when things are that old, tall tales of curses and tragedy might inevitably follow.

From the curse that King Charles should be mindful of to places and objects thought to bring bad luck to those who dare to tread, sprinkle some salt over your right shoulder and take a trip through these spooky tales.

The most 'cursed' jewellery and artefacts in history

The Hope Diamond

A truly awe-inspiring 45.52-carat diamond, the Hope Diamond is one of the largest blue diamonds ever discovered, estimated to be worth approximately £263 million ($350 million).

Passed down through generations of historic French royalty, the 'cursed' stone happened to be in the possession of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette when they faced their end in the French Revolution.

But that's not where the curse ends. The Hope Diamond went on to travel through a long line of merchants and elites, including Evalyn Walsh McLean, who shortly after receiving the diamond, faced the unexpected deaths of her son and daughter, followed by her husband’s admission to a mental hospital.

Perhaps wisely, the Hope Diamond is now housed at the Smithsonian Institution.

The Black Orlov

Sometimes known as the Eye of Brahma Diamond, the Black Orlov is a magnificent 67.50-carat black diamond that's believed to have been stolen from the ancient statue of a Hindu god.

After bringing the Black Orlov to New York City in 1932, the thief, a diamond dealer, died by suicide. The diamond would later come into the possession of a pair of Russian princesses, who, tragically, also took their own lives.

The Delhi Purple Sapphire

Also known as the Gem of Sorrow, which should be the first warning, this mysterious stone is rumoured to have been stolen by a British soldier from the Temple of Indra, in Kanpur, India, during the Mutiny of 1857.

The stone eventually found itself in the possession of scientist Edward Heron-Allen in 1890. And despite being logical, he soon succumbed to the curse. Facing misfortunes, he tried to give it away - but it was always returned. After giving it to a singer, she reportedly lost her voice right after. And when he threw it in a canal, it was returned three months later.

Writing that it was "accursed and is stained with the blood, and the dishonour of everyone who has ever owned it," he kept it locked away in seven boxes and surrounded by good luck charms.

In 1944, Heron-Allen died. His daughter sent it away to the Natural History Museum. There it stayed until 1972, until curator Peter Tandy uncovered the sapphire and a letter warning, "Whoever opens this box, do whatever you want with it. My advice, however is to throw it into the sea."

The trumpets of Tutankhamun

Most would have heard of the curses bestowed upon those who excavate Egyptian tombs, especially of legendary kings like Tutankhamun.

One of the most baffling of the treasures taken from Tutankhamun's tomb is two trumpets.

It is said that every time they have been blown since the discovery, a war has started.

The trumpets were stolen along with several other items during the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, and when they were recovered a few months later, Egyptologist Hala Hassan told the media that a museum staff member had blown one of the trumpets just a few days before the revolt started. It's also on record that the BBC was allowed to record the sound of the trumpets in 1939, shortly before the beginning of World War II.

The Koh-i-Noor Diamond

Terrible news for King Charles, as the Koh-i-Noor diamond, which features in the priceless Crown Jewels, is said to have a curse that only affects male owners.

The 186-carat diamond, which sits atop the Imperial State Crown, is said to have brought ill luck to male dynasties over the centuries before it passed to the British Royal Family.

A Hindu description of the diamond warns that "he who owns this diamond will own the world, but will also know all its misfortunes. Only God or woman can wear it with impunity."

Hesse Strawberry Leaf Tiara

Originally commissioned in 1861 by Prince Albert for his daughter, Alice, the Strawberry Leaf Tiara carries a sad history.

After receiving the crown, Princess Alice and her husband, Louis IV of Hesse and by Rhine, experienced the loss of two children, and Alice herself would die tragically young from diphtheria.

Inheriting the tiara next, Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark, sister to the late Prince Philip, would go into premature childbirth during a plane journey to the UK. The chaos caused the plane to crash, killing Cecilie, her husband and their children.

The Strawberry Leaf Tiara, however, was found in the wreckage unscathed. The tiara now belongs to the Hessian House Foundation, but it has been retired from being worn in public.

Loot from Pompeii

The tale of Pompeii is one of history's worst natural disasters, with the Roman city completely devastated and buried after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

Perhaps confusingly, some tourists try to take things from the historic site today. But what nearly always happens is they end up sending back their artefacts, citing tragedies and bad luck.

Per Conde Nast Traveller, the site's archaeological superintendent, Massimo Osanna, told The Italian Tribune, "They write that the stolen pieces have brought them nothing but trouble. They say they can trace back all their family troubles to their theft at Pompeii."

The Florentine Diamond

Not so much 'cursed' as unlucky, the Florentine Diamond is a devastating tale of a lost treasure, one that remains unsolved.

An exquisite 137-carat stone that belonged to the powerful Medici Family, the origin legend of this stone has it that Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, is said to have been wearing it when he fell in battle.

Passing down centuries, when the last of the Medicis died, it passed to Vienna through the marriage of Francis Stephan of Lorraine to Empress Maria Theresa and was placed in the Habsburg Crown Jewels in the Hofburg, Vienna. After the fall of the Austrian Empire in World War I, the Florentine joined the family in exile, and this is where it was thought to have been stolen.

Its whereabouts after that are unknown, with some unfounded reports suggesting it could have been recut and made into other iconic stones, including Tiffany's iconic Yellow Diamond.

The Regent Diamond

Currently owned by the French state and on display at the Louvre, the Regent Diamond's dazzling 140.64 carats disguise a rather murky past.

Legend has it that, in the 18th century, an Indian slave discovered the stone and carried it away in a self-inflicted leg wound. An Englishman who promised to help him smuggle the diamond out of India instead betrayed him and took the stone.

The French Regent Philippe II of Orleans, for whom it is named, acquired the 140.6-carat cursed diamond. After disappearing around the time of the French Revolution, the stone would resurface on Napoleon I’s sword. He famously lost the Battle of Waterloo and faced exile after, dying on a tiny island.

Le Beau Sancy

Once considered the largest white diamond in the Western world, the Sancy diamond was a tremendous 55.23-carat stone cut into a brilliant cut that resembled a shield.

Believed to have brought bad luck to many owners, it even had a gruesome beginning. In the early 1600s, the diamond was named for its then-owner Nicolas de Harlay, Seigneur de Sancy, who served as King Henry IV’s finance minister. When Sancy’s loyal servant was delivering the diamond to its next owner, King James I, he was attacked by robbers, but decided to swallow the stone to keep hold of it. The man was killed anyway, and the diamond was cut out of his body.

Three of its later royal owners, including Burgundy’s Charles the Bold, England’s Charles I, and France’s Louis XVI, all faced misfortune and gruesome deaths. The diamond is now owned by the Louvre.

The Black Prince’s Ruby

The Black Prince's Ruby, which sits at the front of the Imperial State Crown of the United Kingdom, weighs 170 carats and, despite the name, is not actually a ruby. It's a large, red spinel.

According to legend, the stone was given to the English monarchy in 1367 by the Spanish king Peter of Castile. He gave it to the then-Prince of Wales, Edward of Woodstock, known as the Black Prince, giving it its name.

A string of deaths has led to the legend of the curse, starting with Don Pedro of Castile, who allegedly stole the gem from a Sultan of Granada and was later executed. The Black Prince, Edward III's son, also owned the ruby and died before inheriting the throne. Henry V also owned it, dying in battle at the time.

Jackie Kennedy's cursed Cartier

Three different women all owned a Cartier watch, and all three women became widows in their 30s.

This is the ominous tale shared by Carole Radziwill - a former Real Housewives of New York star and daughter-in-law of Lee Radziwill, Jackie Kennedy's sister.

Carole told the story on The Moth podcast, revealing that it was Jackie's daily watch when JFK was assassinated in 1963. Later, the watch came to Carole. Carole's husband, Anthony, died of cancer when he was just 40 and Carole was 36.

Carole had given the watch as a gift to a friend named Cassandra. Shortly after gifting the watch, Cassandra's husband was diagnosed with cancer, and he would die when Cassandra was 39.

The lost Irish Crown Jewels

While the Irish Crown Jewels weren't 'cursed' in the traditional sense, they were stolen in 1907 and never recovered. To this day, the location is unknown and the case unsolved.

The Irish Crown Jewels, which included precious stones and badges, were stolen from a safe in the Bedford Tower of Dublin Castle in 1907. Interestingly, the theft took place without any violent or damaging break-in.

The jewels have been estimated to have been worth around £50,000 at the time, and reportedly over £7 million today.

The Ring of Silvianus (which might have inspired J.R.R. Tolkien)

The Ring of Silvianus, sometimes referred to as the Vyne ring, dates back to around the 4th Century AD.

Discovered in a field in England in the 18th century, the ring's origin has been recorded as belonging to a British Roman called Silvianus. It was apparently stolen by a person named Senicianus, upon whom Silvianus called down a curse.

Archaeologist Sir Mortimer Wheeler delved into the history of the ring and the foreboding curse that was found on a tablet, and consulted with Oxford professor JRR Tolkien on the etymology. This is why many believe J.R.R. Tolkien might have been inspired by the ring when he wrote his iconic fantasy novels, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

The Curse of The Moon of Baroda

If you believe in such things, it's said that the 24.04-carat pear-shaped canary yellow diamond known as the Moon of Baroda brings misfortune and tragedy to anyone who carries it across the sea.

The diamond's origin goes back to the Maharajas of Baroda, the royal family of Gaekwad, for over 500 years. The diamond was apparently sent to Empress Maria Thérèse of Austria, the only female monarch of the Habsburg dynasty and the mother of Marie Antoinette, in 1787 by the family. Maria's reign involved wars and strife, and she contracted smallpox.

The diamond was returned to the family and, in 1860, was fitted into a necklace at the request of the Maharaja of Baroda. Later sold to an unknown buyer, the necklace and the diamond would make a lavish return to the spotlight worn by Marilyn Monroe for the promotion of her film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

The lost or sunken gold of the Germans

Not cursed in a supernatural sense, but tinged with great tragedy and darkness, there has long been rumour of a great wealth of treasure buried by the nazis in the hazardous Lake Toplitz, which is in the Austrian Alps.

The idea of a sunken treasure is the stuff of legend, even referenced in a James Bond film (Goldfinger). The inhospitable nature of the water, where only bacteria and worms that can live without oxygen have been found below 20 metres, means that divers have never been lucky in finding anything.

However, to give the rumours some credence, in 1959, investigators recovered £700 million of counterfeit notes from the lake, which Hitler had planned on using to sabotage Britain's economy.

The Amber Room

Constructed in the 18th century in Prussia, the Amber Room was a lavish chamber decorated in amber panels, gold leaf and mirrors, located in the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoye Selo near Saint Petersburg.

Another mysterious bit of treasure that went missing without a trace, the opulent room was dismantled and eventually disappeared during World War II. Before its loss, it was considered an Eighth Wonder of the World.

A reconstruction was made, completed in 2003, but the whereabouts of the original priceless room and decor were never known.

The Vladimir Tiara

It was a tiara often seen being worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for a successful and historic 70 years, so just how cursed could the Vladimir Tiara be?

Well, exactly. It's not so much that the tiara was cursed, but the fact it had quite the tragic and tumultuous past.

The Vladimir Tiara was made for Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, wife of Grand Duke Vladimir. It consists of intersecting circles set with brilliant diamonds, and each one is hung off a claw-set pendant pearl.

The tiara survived the deadly Russian Revolution, and the Grand Duchess was the last Romanov to escape Russia. She died in exile, never getting reacquainted with her jewels, and the diadem would later be sold to Queen Mary.

The Karun Treasure (or the Lydian Hoard)

Lydia was a huge Iron Age kingdom which existed from the 15-14th centuries BC to 545 BC. So any treasures from that age are, naturally, highly unusual and rare.

In 1966, a man named Ahmet Bulbul, who lived in the village of Midiki, Uşak, was responsible for uncovering a wealth of Lydian treasures. The impressive treasure was divided and 200 pieces of the collection were sold for about $1.5 million to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

However, per several sources, legend has it that the seven men who took part in the illegal digs "died violent deaths or suffered great misfortune" and even museum directors who have dealt with the treasures have been arrested for creating fakes and other notorious deeds.

The Opal of Queen Mercedes of Spain

An ancient ring at the centre of a love affair and a curse? Consider us curious!

Dating back to the 1800s, Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione, was an Italian aristocrat who was considered incredibly beautiful and incredibly connected. Historians suggest she may have had dalliances with King Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, Emperor Napoleon III of France, and King Alfonso XII of Spain.

The countess presented Alfonso with a large opal ring - and this is where the curse begins. Perhaps ill advisedly, Alfonso presented the ring given to him by a potential mistress to his wife, Queen Mercedes of Spain.

Queen Mercedes died just a few months later from typhoid fever. King Alfonso then gave the ring to his grandmother, Queen Maria Christina, who also died mere months after wearing the ring.

The gold of Tolosa/Toulouse

The Gold of Tolosa refers to a historic treasure seized by ancient Romans led by Quintus Servilius Caepio from a town that is known in modern-day terms as Toulouse.

The treasure is thought to date back to Ancient Greek times, and was never found after being taken by the Caepio Romans. But legend has it that all of Quintus Servilius's descendants suffered ill fates. His son was tricked and ambushed and battle, a grandson died tragically young, and his last surviving heir was Marcus Junius Brutus, a name history lovers might be familiar with as the Brutus who would assassinate Julius Caesar and then die at the Battle of Philippi.

Such was the belief in the curse, a Latin proverb was born. 'Aurum habet Tolosanum' translates to 'He has got the gold of Tolosa' and means an ill-got gain will do you no good.

The 'Unlucky Mummy'

The Unlucky Mummy is an Ancient Egyptian artefact housed in the collection of the British Museum in London.

The name is a giveaway, but this artefact has been at the centre of many myths and speak of curses. The most famous is that the presence of the Mummy might have led to the sinking of the Titanic, as people have stated it was being moved from the British Museum to New York on the doomed ship. This has been proven to be false, but the legend persists.

The Norwegian royal tiara stolen in broad daylight

Thought to have been created by the jewellers Carrington and Co in 1896 in time to be worn by Princess Maud of Wales at her wedding to Prince Carl of Denmark, Queen Maud's Tiara was a stunning creation featuring a glittering diamond scroll motif and pear-shaped pearl toppers.

Maud’s grandson, King Harald V of Norway and his wife, Sonja, ascended the throne in 1991. Giving their royal jewels a bit of TLC, they sent the diadem to Garrard, one of the British Royal Family's crown jewellers, in 1995. However, the crown was stolen in an armed heist and has never been recovered.

The Crying Boy paintings

Investing in artwork can be just as lucrative and wise as investing in jewellery, but there's one painting no one should want in their homes.

In the 1980s, the tabloid newspaper, The Sun, led a report that stated firefighters were often witnessing undamaged, unscathed paintings of The Crying Boy - a mass-produced style by artist Giovanni Bragolin - being the only surviving objects from house fires.

By the end of 1985, belief in the painting's curse was widespread enough that The Sun organised mass bonfires of the paintings, sent in by readers.

Pieces of Uluru Rock

Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is the massive sandstone monolith in Australia's Northern Territory.

It is considered sacred to indigenous Australians and is thought to have started forming around 550 million years ago.

Tourists often try to take a piece of the rock as a special artefact, and each year the Uluru National Park’s main office ends up receiving more than 350 packages as people send back the sand or stone they took, with several reports indicating they write letters indicating a string of bad luck that started after bringing the rock home.

The Dybbuk Box

Most people think of glamour and gambling when they think of Las Vegas, but for lovers of the spooky and supernatural, there's a haunted museum which, if you believe, currently houses one of the most cursed objects in the world.

A wooden cabinet, known as the Dybbuk Box, may contain a malicious spirit from Jewish folklore called a Dybbuk. Those who have owned or opened the box have reported strange phenomena like disturbing nightmares, illness, and even death.

Even singer Post Malone seems to have learnt the hard way, with plane emergencies and armed robberies taking place not long after he touched the box during a visit to the Vegas museum.

Oak Island Money Pit

While the treasure hasn't yet been found, or might not even exist, there's a centuries-old lore that captivates people all over the world. The Money Pit is thought to be the location of a legendary treasure on Oak Island in Nova Scotia, Canada.

A curse on the treasure is said to have originated more than a century ago and states that seven men will die in the search for the treasure before it is found. To date, it's widely reported that there have been six accidental deaths connected to excavations on Oak Island.

The Charles Island Curse

Now a protected natural area within Silver Sands State Park, the Charles Island near Connecticut in the United States, has reportedly been at the centre of three different curses over the years.

Captain William Kidd, a notorious pirate, is said to have buried treasure on the island, which he then cursed to protect it from treasure hunters. Other historians and legend-lovers have it that there's a Native American curse on the land, cast by a Paugussett chief who traded it to European settlers and regretted it, while a final legend suggests a sailor buried Aztec treasure on the island to end the curse after stealing it.

Pele's lava rocks

Tourists will want to take keepsakes from their travels, but sometimes, there can be a lack of sensitivity to the native land and cultures. And that is why there is said to be a curse on anyone who takes anything away from Hawaii - Pele's Curse.

Pele is thought to be the goddess of volcanoes and fire who created the islands of Hawaii. She is honoured throughout the islands. Each year, it's reported that tourists return rocks, sand and other items they took from Hawaii, expressing sorrow and regret following a string of bad luck.

The Blue Diamond Affair

While not cursed by spirits or the supernatural, one Thai cleaner's diamond theft led to decades of bad luck and bad relations between two countries.

Labelled the Blue Diamond Affair, in 1989, a Thai cleaner working for a Saudi prince reportedly stole several gems, including an incredibly rare 50-carat blue diamond that was never recovered.

A scandal erupted, with three Saudi diplomats shot dead in Bangkok following the theft and several top policemen accused of being involved. It went unsolved for years, and it took until 2022 for the two nations to broker peace.

The Taylor-Burton Diamond

A perfect, 69.42 carat white diamond first discovered at a De Beers-owned mine in South Africa would later become one of the most famous jewels of all time - the Taylor-Burton diamond.

And, okay, okay, it's not exactly fair to call it cursed, but it's definitely shrouded in bad luck and poor choices after reckless romantic Richard Burton paid Cartier $1.1 million so his two-time wife could have the stone.

Alcoholism and explosive rows followed the couple throughout their two marriages, and after divorcing in 1976, Elizabeth sold the diamond. That should teach people about grand gestures.

The Cullinan Diamond

The Cullinan Diamond is one of the most famous diamonds to ever exist. A true wonder of nature, it weighs 3,106 carats and is the largest gem-quality diamond ever discovered.

The massive stone was cut and split into different gems, most notably the Cullinan I (The Great Star of Africa), a pear-shaped diamond weighing 530.2 carats that is part of the British Crown Jewels today, adorning the Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross.

The other is the Cullinan II (The Second Star of Africa), a 317.4 carat cushioned stone that is part of the Imperial State Crown.

The Cullinan has been involved in some cursed tales over the years. Some believe that those who possess or wear the diamond will bring misfortune. However, in less superstitious stories, there was nearly an accident involving the diamond that spells bad luck. During the cutting process, a piece of the Cullinan Diamond known as the Cullinan III was accidentally sent flying across the room, nearly being lost forever.

It was eventually found, but losing something of that value feels worthy of a curse!

King Edward VII referred to Cartier as "the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers." High praise - but one the French maison has certainly lived up to for centuries.

Whether they add an extra touch of sparkle to the best red carpet looks of all time or they're behind the best royal tiara moments, wearing something crafted by Cartier means something.

The enduring love story between royals, A-listers and Cartier

The Taylor-Burton Diamond

It's one of the most famous diamonds in history, and it's closely tied to the glamorous lore of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, which might make it a surprise that Elizabeth Taylor only owned the iconic diamond for less than 10 years.

The incomparable, perfect 69.42 carat white diamond was first discovered at a De Beers owned mine in South Africa. It was then put up for auction, where Cartier outbid everyone, with an impressive bid of $1,050,000 (which works out to be just shy of $10,000,000 in today's currency).

A reckless romantic, actor Richard Burton wanted the stone for Elizabeth - the woman he'd marry twice. He contacted Cartier and purchased the diamond for a reported $1.1 million, with some conditions - Cartier was allowed to put the dazzling stone on display for a week at the store’s Fifth Avenue store. It reportedly drew over 6000 visitors.

After the couple divorced in 1976, Elizabeth sold the diamond in 1979 and donated part of the proceeds to help build a hospital in Botswana. It's reportedly now owned by billionaire Robert Mouawad.

The Cartier Halo Tiara

Made famous as the stunning headpiece worn by the Princess of Wales for her wedding to Prince William in 2011, the Cartier Halo Scroll tiara has a special place in the Royal Family.

George VI commissioned Cartier to make this tiara for his wife three weeks before he acceded to the throne in 1936. Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, would later present her daughter, the then Princess Elizabeth, with the iconic piece for an 18th birthday present.

The priceless tiara includes 739 brilliant-cut diamonds and 149 baguette diamonds.

Demi Moore

At the 2024 Met Gala, Demi Moore and Cartier teamed up to make an unforgettable debut for their High Jewellery collection.

The Ghost actress wore a never-before-seen piece from Cartier's Nature Sauvage collection, a necklace and earrings set called Chloris.

The Chloris featured spirals of platinum and diamonds with emerald stones, designed to resemble dandelions being swept away in the wind. Demi's set included a 7.87-carat emerald necklace and matching 2.25-carat earrings.

Anne Hathaway

For 2018's Ocean's 8, the classic crime caper got an all-woman reworking, and it saw a star-studded team made up of Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Rihanna and Anne Hathaway come together to pull a heist off at the Met Gala.

Impressively, not even the ultra A-list cast could outshine the recreated archival necklace that Cartier recreated especially for the film.

The necklace, which is the main target for the thieves, was based on the real-life Toussaint necklace, originally designed by Jacques Cartier in 1931 for the Maharaja of Nawanagar. The original necklace was described as "the finest cascade of coloured diamonds in the world", showcasing a central 136.25 carat blue-white flawless gem, known as the Queen of Holland diamond, as well as a 12 carat green diamond and several large white and pink diamonds.

Rihanna

Arguably one of the most memorable Met Gala moments in recent memory, Rihanna's epic, extravagant look for 2015's China: Through the Looking Glass theme was jaw-dropping.

If her flowing couture dress from Guo Pei with a 3-metre long train and a reported weight of 55 pounds wasn't enough of a statement, the pop star accessorised with the exquisite Cartier rose gold and diamond Paris Nouvelle Vague necklace, which is set with 114 diamonds totalling 5.26 carats and costs £95,000.

The Nizam of Hyderabad

Worth an estimated £80 million and arguably one of the finest pieces of royal jewellery, this one-of-a-kind Cartier necklace was a most generous gift given to Queen Elizabeth II for her wedding to Prince Philip.

The name of the jewel, the Nizam of Hyderabad, is taken from a title now not in use for the ruler of a region in India, and one of the richest men in the world at the time.

He asked a young Princess Elizabeth to pick whatever she wanted from Cartier for her wedding gift, and she went with a platinum necklace set with 300 diamonds.

Princess Diana’s Cartier Tank Francaise

In addition to their diamonds, Cartier know how to offer something luxurious with a little less obvious razzle dazzle. Case in point - their Tank watches. Anyone who knows, knows that the Cartier Tank watches are one of the French maison's most iconic pieces - and one of the most in-demand watches.

Princess Diana was a fan of the style, and her gold-toned Tank Francaise has since been passed down to Meghan Markle.

Grace Kelly's engagement ring

Grace Kelly's lavish 10.48-carat diamond engagement ring, which was famously worn in her last ever movie, High Society, is the stuff of jewellery legend. And in 2025, it went on display at London's V&A Museum as part of the dedicated Cartier exhibition.

The timeless ring showcased an emerald-cut diamond, flanked by two baguette-cut diamonds, set in platinum. When Prince Rainier presented it to her in 1956, reports suggested it was worth around $4 million (£3m) and various sources agree it'll be worth around $38 million (£28.5m) today.

Queen Elizabeth II’s Williamson Brooch

Commissioned in 1953, the same year of her coronation, Queen Elizabeth II’s Williamson brooch is famous for showcasing one of the rarest pink diamonds ever discovered.

The 23.6-carat flawless stone, discovered in Tanzania in 1947, was a wedding gift from Canadian geologist John Williamson. This rare stone was later cut and set by Cartier into a platinum floral design that Her Majesty wore repeatedly throughout her 70-year reign.

The Williamson pink diamond brooch, according to jewellery expert Max Stone from Steven Stone jewellers, is worth an estimated £25 million.

Zoe Saldaña

Oscar winning star of Avatar and Emilia Perez, Zoe Saldaña dazzled at the 2025 Golden Globes, debuting a range of Cartier's High Jewellery pieces.

Part of the Cartier Nature Sauvage series, Zoe wore the Melis necklace, which is inspired by honey and bees. At its heart, a totem-like bee crafted from a 2.64-carat briolette-cut yellow diamond rests within a honeycomb structure of yellow gold hexagons. Per the brand, the necklace is adorned with briolette and brilliant-cut diamonds and unfaceted yellow diamond beads. It was crafted over 738 hours.

Zoe completed her look with the Broderie de Cartier ring, crafted in 18k rose gold and diamonds.

Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle is thought to be a fan of Cartier, having been seen wearing different Tank watches over the years, and one of her go-to necklaces is the iconic Juste un Clou.

Set with 57 diamonds, it was originally designed back in the 1970s. She has worn it multiple times, most notably at the 2022 Opening Ceremony for the Invictus Games.

Juste un Clou translates to "just a nail" in French, and the quirky design is made to look like a long nail wrapped around the wearer's neck.

Elizabeth Taylor’s diamond and ruby necklace

Nobody knew or loved jewels quite like Elizabeth Taylor, so much so that she wrote a book about it. And in her glamorous book, Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair With Jewellery, she shared the origin of one of her most coveted pieces, the fiery red ruby and diamond set.

"I was in the pool, swimming laps at our home, and Mike came outside to keep me company,” she wrote. “He was holding a red leather box, and inside was a ruby necklace, which glittered in the warm light. It was like the sun, lit up and made of red fire."

The set, gifted to her by husband Mike Todd, included a bracelet and earrings, but the focal piece was the necklace. The necklace featured a delicate lattice design of baguette, brilliant, and fancy-cut diamonds, all designed around eight Burmese rubies.

Celine Dion's Panthère de Cartier ring

Celine Dion is no stranger to a memorable look, and she knows a thing or two about magnificent jewellery (lest we forget the seven pound wedding headpiece made from 2000 crystals!). So it's no surprise the chic icon has some of Cartier's all-time classic pieces in her collection.

Celine was spotted wearing a ring from the Panthère de Cartier collection. The range, famous for the panther motif, often incorporated a mixture of diamonds, emeralds, and onyx. The design would sometimes look like the panther was biting a wearer's finger - a bold and unusual take on high jewellery.

The Cartier Panthère watch collection was first introduced in 1983 and discontinued in 2004, making the pieces ultra rare and collectable.

Sarah Jessica Parker

In 2006, Sarah Jessica Parker attended a glamorous party celebrating Cartier, so naturally, she went all out with a statement, chunky gold necklace from the maison.

However, eagle-eyed jewellery lovers will most likely recognise the legendary Cartier Love bracelet that the Sex and the City icon is wearing.

First created in New York in 1969, the Love bracelet has become a jewellery icon. The close fitting, oval bracelet composed of two rigid arches is worn tightly on the wrist and removed using a special screwdriver.

Jennifer Lopez

Men might come and go, but diamonds are forever. Jennifer Lopez's marriage to Ben Affleck might not have worked out, but the supportive wife's chic look at the premiere of his movie, The Last Duel, is timeless.

Wearing a form-fitting white dress, Jennifer kept things effortlessly elegant, draping her simple dress with Cartier jewels, including a bust-framing necklace, a chunky ring and a tennis bracelet.

Nicole Kidman in Grace of Monaco

She's one of the most glamorous movie stars of all time... and she was playing one of the most glamorous movie stars of all time. So, naturally, when Nicole Kidman took on the role of Grace Kelly in 2014's Grace of Monaco, the outfits and accessories had to deliver.

From her engagement ring to tiaras, the Princess of Monaco had many coveted Cartier pieces during her years, and the French maison recreated several pieces for Nicole to wear in the movie.

As well as providing jewellery, Cartier recreated five pieces of Princess Grace's collection with the blessing of the Monegasque royal family, including a diamond poodle pin, a hen brooch, a ruby and diamond tiara, a poodle brooch and her revered three-stand diamond necklace.

The Queen Mother’s Aquamarine Art Deco brooch

One of the late Queen's most magnificent brooches was a gift from Cartier, first presented to her mother.

The aquamarine brooch dates back to the 1930s, with one of its first documented appearances in 1939, when the Queen Mother wore the jewel to meet with President Lebrun of France at Windsor Castle. The brooch was given to Queen Elizabeth II when her mother died in 2002. It's designed as an openwork oval plaque of circular cut aquamarines with circular cut diamond scroll shoulders and is mounted in platinum.

Amal Clooney

For the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, George might have been the lead of the movie being premiered, but it was Amal Clooney who stole the spotlight.

The human rights lawyer looked stunning in a pale yellow Atelier Versace gown accessorised with a pair of Cartier coral earrings and bracelet from its Étourdissant high jewellery collection.

Zoe Saldaña at the Oscars

At the 2025 Academy Awards, Zoe Saldaña not only walked home with the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she stole the show with a one-of-a-kind Cartier necklace.

Debuting the Pantheres Versatiles, which took 34 months to make, the Cartier haute couture jewellery was crafted to look like a panther which wraps around the neck.

The design features a speckled vine-like cord of onyx and diamonds and a 10.10-carat Zambian emerald.

Julianne Moore

At the 2022 Venice Film Festival, Julianne Moore radiated glamour decked out in Cartier's High Jewellery pieces.

Wearing the Sixième Sens collection, one that the brand describes as "disrupt[ing] our perceptions and draws us into a universe where all our senses are awakened. All of them, even our sixth sense: that exhilarating emotion that touches our heart", Julianne wore the Coruscant necklace.

Per the brand, "The necklace is made up of six diamond cuts: kite, octagonal, emerald, triangle, baguette and brilliant. With its perfectly geometrical design, the lines draw the gaze to the pendant, a spectacular addition of a 3-carat kite diamond, a 1.62-carat octagonal diamond and a 1.54-carat emerald-cut diamond."

Halle Berry

At the 2025 Met Gala, actress and icon Halle Berry showcased a brand new jewellery set from Cartier's En Equilibre collection.

Made from 18 carat white gold, onyx, and diamonds, the Tsagaan necklace was inspired by the Mongolian snow leopard and was crafted with a 3.51 carat diamond during a a process that took 1,136 hours.

Halle's enviable sparkling set was complete with earrings and rings from the legendary Panthère de Cartier collection.

Wallis Simpson’s Flamingo Brooch

One of the most distinct and playful Cartier pieces in Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor's collection that went on auction at Sotheby's in 2011 was a colourful flamingo brooch.

The fun piece was commissioned in 1940 by the Duke of Windsor and created by Cartier.

While it might look like costume jewellery or something you'd give to a child, the extravagant piece was made from a lavish collection of rubies, sapphires, emeralds, citrine, and diamonds. It sold in 2011 for £1,721,250.

Jada Pinkett Smith

At the 2022 Screen Actors' Guild awards, Hollywood royalty Jada Pinkett Smith wore a Cartier necklace that had roots to British royalty.

Jada’s statement necklace, a high-collared, lace-like design, is a monochrome recreation of a legendary amethyst and turquoise necklace created for Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, in 1947.

Isabelle Huppert

A foolproof colour combination, black and gold is always an easy shortcut to elegance and glamour. And legendary French actress Isabelle Huppert exuded that je ne sais quoi with her simple, form-fitting black high-collar shirt paired with a statement vintage Cartier necklace, matching earrings and cuff bracelet at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

The 2012 Grammys were a good year for Adele, who went home with pretty much every major award for which she was nominated. And it wasn't just the trinkets she took home that dazzled - she was wearing some statement Cartier pieces that solidified her status as a diva.

The Oscar winning beauty wore platinum, round old-cut diamond earrings dating back to 1923 as well as two bracelets including a French baguette, with diamonds and emeralds from 1926 and a diamond bracelet from 1929 with single-cut and bullet-shaped diamonds.

Princess Margaret Rose brooch

Princess Margaret was, to those closest to her, often referred to as Margaret Rose, and to honour the affectionate nickname, the Princess was thought to prize a Cartier rose brooch from her collection.

The Cartier Diamond Rose Brooch has been described as a "three dimensional pavé-set rose in full bloom to the openwork leaves and stem set with baguette, single and circular-cut diamonds."

The piece was created by Cartier in London in 1938 and Margaret was first seen wearing it in 1953, at the coronation of her sister, Queen Elizabeth II.

Princess Caroline

As the daughter of Grace Kelly and a member of the Rainier dynasty of Monaco, it's no surprise Princess Caroline has access to some legendary jewels.

Princess Caroline has only worn the jaw-dropping Cartier Diamond and Pearl Drop Tiara on a few special occasions, as the jewels officially belong to the Palais Princier Collection, and not to her personally.

Created by Cartier for Princess Charlotte, Duchess of Valentinois (mother of Prince Rainier III of Monaco), the tiara is made of diamonds, gold, and platinum, and features large, pear-shaped pearl drops which are suspended en tremblant, meaning they tremble or move, adding a dramatic effect.

Madonna

In 2011, Madonna made her directorial debut with the film, W.E., which focused on the love story between Wallis Simpson and Edward.

For the premiere of the movie at the Venice Film Festival, Madonna paid subtle homage to the Duchess of Windsor by wearing recreations of her Cartier pieces with contemporary jewels.

Included in Madonna's look were a pair of Cartier platinum and diamond pendant earrings, three vintage Cartier diamond bracelets, and a replica of Wallis Simpson's diamond cross bracelet.

Princess Anne's Aquamarine Pineflower tiara

The Royal Family have plenty of special Cartier pieces in their collection, and Princess Anne is the current owner of a colourful gem.

The Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara was a wedding gift from her grandmother, the Queen Mother. The tiara was originally commissioned to Cartier by King George VI for his wife, Queen Elizabeth. As well as the aquamarine pineflowers from which the tiara gets its name, it also features a platinum base adorned with square aquamarines and diamonds.

The tiara was gifted to the Princess Royal in 1973, who later reworked it, having the central pineflower removed to create a brooch.

Rihanna

For the 2018 Met Gala which had a theme of Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, A-listers were given carte blanche to don their biggest, chunkiest jewels, in a nod to the tradition of the church and their penchant for big rings and big crosses.

Rihanna, as ever, did not disappoint. Amongst her many jewels on the night, she showcased a Cartier crucifix from the vintage collection.

It was first created in 1934 by Cartier London and reintroduced after the war in 1949. The original 1934 design included gold, silver, diamonds, sapphires, rubies, pearls, opal and topaz.

Grace Kelly

As the Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly often showcased the craftsmanship of the French maison. And one of her most impressive Cartier pieces was the majestic Bains de Mer Tiara - a wedding gift from the Société des Bains de Mer, a prominent company in Monaco.

The tiara is made up of three scroll motifs, each set with round brilliant and baguette-cut diamonds and a central cabochon ruby. All in all, there are 49 carats of rubies, and the white and red colour scheme is a nod to the flag of Monaco.

The tiara was loaned to the V&A Museum in 2025, where it went on display as part of the Cartier exhibition.

The Princess of Wales stepped out on her and Prince William’s 14th wedding anniversary in the Isle of Mull looking just as impeccably stylish as always. From her tailored Holland Cooper blazer to her Boden chambray shirt and brown skinny jeans, her smart-casual outfit was perfect for a breezy spring day in the Inner Hebrides.

It was also quintessentially *her*, but one thing about her ensemble caught my eye and was a little bit different for the future Queen. Kate was wearing two layered gold necklaces together as she and Prince William arrived at Aros Hall, a local community hub in Tobermory.

She doesn’t tend to double up on her jewellery like this too often and necklace stacks are a huge trend for 2025. They’re in-keeping with boho style which isn’t the Princess’ signature look, but she made it very much her own in Scotland.

Unless you are a big fan of a bold layered effect I’d recommend starting with simple, everyday pieces that work seamlessly together. This is exactly what the senior royal did and I noticed she was wearing a subtle gold chain necklace from Daniella Draper with her children's initials on.

Initial jewellery can have an unfair reputation for being a bit twee, but it very much depends on the design. The ‘G', 'C' and 'L' charms on Kate’s necklace were small and minimal, which gave it a more sophisticated edge.

This necklace was the shorter of her two jewellery pieces and the one below it had a disc pendant hanging from the plain gold chain. It was another Daniella Draper piece and Prince George, Charlotte and Louis' initials were engraved on the charm alongside several diamonds.

With its size and embellishments, this necklace is the statement item in this stack, but it’s still pared back enough to be easy to style. When you’re combining different necklaces, it’s good to opt for items of different lengths or with differently shaped pendants or chains.

I think the beauty of layered necklaces lies in the contrast of different styles. The combination Kate was wearing was classic but striking and she could easily have worn it with so many different outfits to give them a touch of glamour.

Multiple necklaces aren’t just for occasionwear or date night outfits - they look dazzling with a plain top and jeans too. A stack feels more contemporary than a single chain or pendant necklace and this complements casualwear.

If you love her look but are daunted by the prospect of picking different necklaces that work perfectly together, then it’s well worth checking out some of the pre-layered necklaces available online and on the high street. They give a similar effect with less styling fuss.

It was lovely to see the Princess of Wales trying something a little different with her jewellery in the Isle of Mull and it’s inspiring me to be more experimental and boho with my own necklaces.

She and Prince William are undertaking a two day visit to the Isles of Mull and Iona where they will meet local people. Their visit comes as their Royal Foundation has announced a partnership to support two community spaces on the Isle of Mull.

The Tiffany Yellow Diamond is one of the most famous diamonds in the world - and coming in at 128.54 carats, it's easy to see why.

Gaga wearing the diamond was a true moment for jewellery fans - she was only the second person to ever wear it publicly, after Audrey Hepburn in the promotion for Breakfast at Tiffany's. Beyonce would wear the diamond after Lady Gaga for an cinematic advertisement filmed for the brand.

The legendary diamond started life as a 287 carat rough stone discovered in the Kimberly mines of South Africa in 1877. Bought by Charles Lewis Tiffany, he turned to George Frederic Kunz to cut the stone into a 128 carat cushion to bring out its brilliance.

Kate Winslet

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet exuded movie star opulence when she arrived at the 2010 Academy Awards.

The Titanic star wore a magnificent, rectangular necklace featuring a 13.09-carat yellow diamond and two 6-carat yellow diamonds. Around these focal pieces were 642 hand-set round brilliant white diamonds.

Dua Lipa debuts the Legendary diamond

For the 2023 Met Gala, singer Dua Lipa became the first celebrity to wear Tiffany & Co.’s new Legendary diamond, which boasts over 100 carats.

Set on Tiffany’s iconic Lucida Star necklace, the behemoth white gem pays homage to the iconic yellow Tiffany Diamond and shares a near identical cushion cut.

Per the brand's website, the Legendary White Diamond is D-coloured, features 82 facets, and is responsibly sourced from Botswana.

For the majority of the Wicked promotional tour, Cynthia Erivo made great use of method dressing - channelling the emerald greens of the Wicked Witch in her enchanting looks. As Amanda shows, it works really well with shirt collars on its own, or with necklaces of a similar length. Then with lower necklines, you can add pendants of various lengths to really add interest to your collection."

Alison Hammond wore a cosy khaki co-ord and layered gold jewellery on This Morning and this look tied confidence and comfort together.

Comfort and warmth are two of the most important factors when it comes to winter outfits but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to feel stylish and confident in our clothes too. It’s easy to reach for the leggings and thick jumpers in our winter capsule wardrobe, but for Sunday Roasts with friends and winter outings sometimes we want something a little dressier but still comfy. The ITV show shared a hilarious clip of a viewer calling in to share a Bridget Jones-esque anecdote with Alison and her co-host Dermot O’Leary and we could see a close-up of her outfit. Alison’s co-ord is selling out fast across all the options and we can see why as the khaki green tone is so stunning.

It’s earthy enough to feel unintimidating as a colour, but is something a little different to the neutrals that we naturally gravitate towards. Khaki green is also one of those shades that isn’t so deep and rich that it feels instantly more wintery, like burgundy, forest green or plum, and so it can be worn well into spring when it’s still cold.

I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to jewellery, so I have quite the collection of necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings. Gold has always been my favourite, and I've got a mix of brands like Missoma and Monica Vinader, as well as treasured sentimental pieces.

I love each and every item, but here's the thing - I don't spend much time looking after them. I have lint rollers, fabric shavers and coat hangers that won't leave marks in my tops, and steamers to keep my capsule wardrobe looking pristine. Don't get me wrong, my jewellery is all stored in boxes and drawers, all nice and separate so they don't get tangled up, but I haven't ever spent much time cleaning or polishing my beloved accessories.

When you think about the everyday grime that can accumulate on jewellery - soap, fake tan, SPF and sweat, you can see why it would need cleaning. Coming into contact with things like moisturiser and perfume can cause tarnishing, and when some of my favourite necklaces started leaving marks on the neckline of my new white t-shirts, I knew they needed some attention.

I do actually have an ultrasonic retainer cleaner that I've tried on some rings before but wasn't hugely impressed. So when the HG jewellery liquid cleaning bath was recommended to me I decided to give it a go. It costs just £7 on Amazon, so is much easier and cheaper than a trip to the jewellers.

It has over 12,000 reviews on Amazon, and promises to "restore the original shine", "remove dirt quickly and efficiently", and says it works on both jewellery and dress jewellery.

The directions are simple and easy to follow: immerse the jewellery for 3-5 minutes depending on how dirty it is, remove from the tub of liquid with the help of the blue plastic tweezers provided, then use the brush to clean any parts that are difficult to reach. Rinse the jewellery under the tap and clean with a non-fluffy cloth. Sounds easy!

So how did I get on? It's REALLY good. Admittedly, it's not a dunk your jewellery in the bath, have a cup of tea, come back and your jewellery is now sparkling: there is some elbow grease required.

The tweezers are messy to use, so smaller jewellery can be tricky to fish out. The brush is definitely good for detailed areas though (you'll see that I really put this product to the test with some seriously complicated designs!), but the one thing I think is missing is a good cloth.

Tarnished areas need polishing after being in the cleaning bath - it doesn't just fall away whilst submerged. However, I cleaned ten items and the colour of the liquid afterwards indicated to me that it really had worked, and well, the results speak for themselves.

One Amazon reviewer agreed: "the cost of sending [my necklace] to Tiffany to clean was £135 so I thought I would try this first. It was very easy to use, I dropped the necklace into the solution and left it for the time advised. It comes with tweezers to get the item back out of the solution and also a small brush for any stubborn discolouration. The results were amazing... necklace looked like new again so much so I proceeded to do all of my silver jewellery. I did also buy a silver jewellery polishing cloth to buff the items afterwards."

Her outfit was a cool take on tailored dressing, with slightly pointed shoulders on her jacket and a chic lace bralette underneath. Her jewellery was no different, wearing a number of different designers according to the National Jeweller. Huggie hoop earrings, diamond rings and an earpin to hold her white rose in place, designers including Kismet by Milka, Spinelli and Kat Kim all feature in Kendrick's ensemble. Her loosely waved hair is styled with a deep parting and tops the whole look off.

Queen of the red carpet, Cher has graced the red carpet at so many events from the Grammys to the Oscars and has given us stunning looks that have cemented her as a true style icon. This picture was taken at the 1976 Grammys and shows just why Cher deserves all these accolades, sporting two glam butterfly embellishments in both her hair and on the front of the white two-piece dress. According to The Jewellery Editor, this set featured 41-carat emeralds and amethysts and sat proudly on the actress to add that extra touch of camp extravagance.

Wearing a black and white tuxedo-style Karl Lagerfeld gown, the actress accessorised with delightful Cartier diamond drop earrings, a layered diamond necklace and a cocktail ring. The wide neck of the dress makes the impressive necklace the star of the show, while the earrings and cocktail ring keep everything cohesive and together. An exaggerated cat-eye and fluttery lashes top this look off. 

Winnie Harlow

Model Winnie Harlow looked truly ethereal in all white at the 2019 Met Gala, wearing a custom Tommy Hilfiger dress with a structured neckline, airy skirt and long flowing train. The jewels (of course) had to match this extravagant bridal look and were designed by Bulgari from their High Jewellery collection. Featuring a leaf diamond necklace, bracelets and rings, this look was elevated even further by an eye-catching white headpiece with stars and flowers. 

Emilia Clarke

Taking elements from Catholic religious imagery and giving them a high fashion finish, British actress Emilia Clarke looked amazing at the 2018 Met Gala in a dress covered in gold floral detailing and church-like embroidered panels all along its long flowing train. Her jewellery was just as regal, sporting a gold and ruby tiara and large chandelier earrings designed by Dolce & Gabbana. Pink cheeks and a deep cherry red lip add that final touch of glamour to her look. 

Celine Dion

Singer Celine Dion looked the epitome of Las Vegas showgirl at the 2019 Met Gala, wearing this all-singing, all-dancing fringed and super sparkling bodysuit with a massive feathered headpiece. The jewels are, of course, no less glam than her shimmery dream of an outfit designed by Fred Leighton. Wearing Art Deco diamond pendant earrings and a cluster ring anyone would be envious of, these jewels add that final showgirl touch of sparkle that makes Celine truly stand out on the red carpet. 

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa wore Tiffany & Co. jewels aplenty at the 2023 Met Gala. Spotted wearing the Lucida Star Necklace, this necklace features a 100-carat white diamond pendant and 82 facets, according to Only Natural Diamonds and shone brilliantly as it sat perfectly on her chest. To make this look even more memorable, Dua wore the iconic ‘Chanel Bride’ dress that Claudia Schiffer wore to close the 1992 Fall Couture Show.

Gisele Bündchen

90s supermodel royalty Gisele Bündchen wore a stunning Versace gown at the 2018 Met Gala in a beautiful champagne colour that oozed glamour and style. Her jewellery was equally as glam, as she was spotted wearing some seriously impressive diamond and gold hoops by Alessandro Sabbatini of SABBA. 

Cardi B

For the 2024 exhibition ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’, Cardi B showed up to the red carpet in a gown that was anything but sleepwear; a huge black tulle gown designed by Giambattista Valli and eye-popping jewels designed by Kaymen and A. Jaffe. Featuring emeralds and diamonds, her earrings and necklace all had one large stone in the middle (namely emeralds) with diamonds adorning everywhere else.

Emma Stone

Actress Emma Stone wore this futuristic outfit to the 2015 Met Gala for the theme ‘Camp: Notes On Fashion'. A fun jumpsuit with wide lapels and an interesting belt, this look was paired with beautiful golden heels and a sleek yet impactful necklace and bracelet and chain earrings by Louis Vuitton from their High Jewellery collection. 

Lorde

New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde looked whimsical at the 2021 Met Gala in this interesting open blouse/overcoat with a skirt designed by Emily Bode. Adorned with unique embellishments and what looks like old pennies around the hem of the coat and fashioned into a chain belt for her low-cut skirt, this outfit was repurposed from Bode’s previous menswear line. Her jewellery was just as eccentric and committed to the sustainability element, wearing seven recycled gold pieces by small-batch New York jewellery designer Prounis Jewellery.

Beyoncé

In a clear departure from her usual red carpet style, Beyoncé looked amazing in this gothic-inspired look, featuring a beaded black gown and a mesh diamond veil. This was all brought to life with elaborate chandelier earrings and a chunky cocktail ring designed by Lorraine Schwartz. The earrings are really the star of the show here, featuring a large black stone in the middle with many smaller ones around it that beautifully caught the light. 

Glenn Close

Well and truly pretty in pink, Glenn Close stunned on the Met Gala red carpet in 2022 in a head-to-toe fuchsia pink ensemble by Valentino consisting of a blouse, trousers and a wonderful gown with floral appliques covered in sequins. The earrings definitely matched the vibe here in the vein of very large pink drop earrings that stopped just on her shoulders. 

Jennifer Lopez

Rocking Harry Winston jewels on the Met Gala red carpet in 2017, Jennifer Lopez oozed elegance in a pale blue chiffon dress. The dress was rather simple in its design, mainly a high-neckline and simple flowing train, and was accessorised with more than 150 carats of diamonds including hoop earrings and two bracelets that sat beautifully on her, according to Forbes magazine. 

Lizzo

Singer and musician Lizzo honoured the theme of 2023 (Karl Lagerfeld) by wearing a simple dress with a pearl-adorned overlay. Her outfit was enhanced by plenty of stunning Chanel jewellery pieces, from large tear-drop-shaped pearl earrings to pearl and diamond-adorned jewelled gloves (featuring plenty of Chanel logos, naturally). 

Gigi Hadid

Model Gigi Hadid wore this fun, extremely oversized burgundy coat and latex catsuit look at the 2022 Met Gala for the theme ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’. This red wine-coloured ensemble was enhanced with a striking necklace featuring black pearls, diamonds and tourmalines all set in gold (as you do). 

Iman

Supermodel Iman channelled her inner Princess at the 1997 Met Gala, wearing a stunning diamond tiara that gracefully accessorised her sleek high ponytail and long, waved hair. The model took it one step further and wore an eccentric metallic coat that was adorned with feathers around the neckline and cuffs. We can even see a pop of her dress underneath (covered in diamonds, of course), which seems very fitting for her tribute to much-loved fashion house Versace. 

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked like a true angel at the 2018 Met Gala, wearing a golden Ralph Lauren gown, sleek gold earrings designed by Ana Khouri Gioconda and a literal halo that gave a truly out-of-this-world feel. Her makeup is also beautiful, with a simple matte smokey eye, fresh complexion and deep berry-hued lip that adds a touch of depth to this all-over gold look. The halo was an artfully designed hair accessory in the form of a clip that kept her smooth low bun together whilst providing this icon-like ring around her head, according to Allure. 

Billy Porter

Star of Pose Billy Porter made sure everyone knew he had arrived at the 2019 Met Gala, as he flaunted a head-to-toe ‘Sun God’ look inspired by the Egyptian God Ra custom-made by New York-based designers The Blonds. The jewellery on this outfit basically becomes one with the clothing, featuring a 24-carat gold headpiece and accessories designed by jewellery designers including Andreoli and Oscar Heyman. 10-foot gold wings and gold jewelled makeup complete this ever-so-slightly camp outfit. 

Cate Blanchett

Blanchett’s shimmery fringed Balenciaga gown was elevated by a beautiful set of drop earrings with pale green gemstones, pearls and diamonds designed by Van Cleef & Arpels. The dress and earrings are both of a more pale, neutral gold tone, giving it an edgy, more modern look for the 2007 theme of ‘Poiret: King of Fashion’, honouring French designer Paul Poiret. An equally bedazzled clutch bag accessorises this look so well, while a sultry bronze smokey eye and warm, blushed cheeks are just one of the many wonderful eye looks for blue eyes you can try out.

Zendaya

Zendaya made her Met Gala debut in 2015 for its ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’ theme. Wearing a custom Fausto Puglisi dress featuring a gorgeous sun-motif and exaggerated, structured train, she wore matching accessories and jewellery aplenty that really brought this fun look together. Her tiara, thick chunky bangles and rings all feature the same sun motif and give a royal opulence to the look that made a huge impression for her first Met Gala. With both gold and silver hardware and plenty of jewels, we think this look is one of Zendaya’s best! 

Rihanna

Who could forget this look worn by Rihanna at the 2015 Met Gala with the theme ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’? This dress became an online sensation (a.k.a meme) almost instantly because of the train’s striking resemblance to, well…food! On the other hand, her amazing gold Cartier diamond choker, earrings, and rings perfectly matched this crazy Guo Pei gown, enhancing its metallic glamour and luxurious feel so well. Her deep burgundy hair gives this look a nice accent and keeps it within a lovely, warm colour scheme. 

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner’s transparent, crystal-embellished Givenchy gown was accompanied by minimalist yet dazzling diamond stud earrings and a not-so minimalist choker necklace designed by Lorraine Schwartz. While it may not look obvious at first, this dress was a clear nod to Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn’s dress in My Fair Lady, with its exaggerated shoulders and embellished bodice and skirt, both dresses were also designed by Givenchy. A sleek bun completes the look and ensures all the focus remains on this amazing gown.

2024 marks the 25 years of Maya Brenner jewellery, which is quite the feat when you consider Maya's journey in to jewellery design began as a hobby, making bespoke beaded pieces for friends and family. Fast-forward over two decades later, and her 'delicate but makes a statement' designs are highly sought-after, and regularly seen on A-list celebrities. 

"I’ve always loved jewellery, even from when I was a kid, I think it adds such a moment for a style and can really elevate an outfit," Maya tells me. "I love versatility, so when I’m designing, I’m not just thinking about my lifestyle, but all women – so if you’re going from drop off to lunch with a friend, to work – I love pieces that can be styled with a T-shirt or a sweatshirt, but can also be worn with a little black dress."

To celebrate the business' 25-year milestone, Maya has come full circle with her jewellery design, releasing a new beaded jewellery range, aptly titled Endless Summer, which would sit perfectly in any summer capsule wardrobe. Ahead of the launch, she was kind enough to share her top jewellery styling tips for anyone unsure of where to start.  

1. Make it personal

As someone who doesn't wear much jewellery, but knows the added confidence even the smallest piece can offer, I was keen to lean on Maya's expertise on how to start building a jewellery collection. And just chatting to her for half hour made me think completely differently about how I will now choose the pieces I buy. 

Jewellery can offer something clothes can't, necessarily. And that is a moment - a memory. "When I was designing the asymmetrical letter necklaces, I had young kids, I was in t-shirts and sweatshirts that had spit-up on them, I did not feel glamorous," Maya says. 

"So I created that necklace as sort of a surprise in the design, and when I put it on, even though it was just a little sparkle at the neck, it just made me feel, in my t-shirt and sweatshirt and spit up and messy hair, just slightly more put together. And I love that about jewellery. So I think a meaningful, personalised piece is probably a great place to start."

2. High-low

If you're not sure where to start when it comes to styling jewellery and don't want to spend hundreds on pieces that might not suit, fashion pieces are a great affordable way to find what works. "I love high-low in anything – clothing, home etc –  but I think it’s really important in jewellery too," Maya says. 

"Experimenting with fashion pieces, like a gold chain that’s a little thicker that what you're used to wearing, but it’s plated (not the bad plating that comes off on your skin) and so more affordable. Then you can layer that with a more fine, delicate piece, like the asymmetric letter necklace. Fashion jewellery is a fun, easy and affordable way to help work out your style."

3. Throw out the rules

Growing up, I would often hear certain 'rules' about jewellery – never wear gold and silver together, don't wear too much, don't wear rings on your thumb or index finger. Some of them are pretty bizarre when I think about them now, but others have had a lasting effect on me. 

And I'm not the only one, Maya has also come across similar regulations when it comes to accessories: "We’ve been taught things like 'I have pinkish skin so I can’t wear rose gold', or 'I have yellow undertones so only white gold looks good on me'. No. You wear what makes you happy, that feels good, that speaks to you personally. Throw out the rules and go with whatever you’re feeling."

Let's be honest, who doesn't love a sparkler? 

The royals certainly do. While they might not always keep up with the latest jewellery trends, their accessory choices, ranging from glittering tiaras to dazzling earrings and more, always offer a mixture of wearable art, decadent luxury and a connection to history. Whenever the Royal Family are out and about, be it sharing a romantic moment or off touring the world, all eyes are fixated on which trinkets and treasures they'll be wearing.

Here, we take a closer look at some of the most stunning and memorable pieces.

Queen Alexandra’s wedding necklace

In 2018, the Princess of Wales wore something we'd seen before - the Lover's Knot Tiara - and something we hadn't seen yet her wear, the elusive Queen Alexandra Wedding Necklace. 

Queen Alexandra wore it on her wedding day to Edward VII in 1863. 

The elaborate piece of jewellery includes eight clusters of pendants surrounded by diamonds. Finishing the stunning look, are delicately balanced pear-shaped pearl drops.

The parure originally included a matching tiara, known as the Rundell Tiara, which, royal historian Hugh Roberts reported was "disposed" of by Queen Alexandra's daughter, in his book, The Queen's Diamonds.

The Cartier Halo Tiara

Ahead of Prince William and Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding, fans went into a fever pitch speculating on what the now Princess of Wales would wear. Some of the more out-there rumours suggested the Princess was doing away with centuries of tradition by opting against wearing one of the royal tiaras in favour of a flower crown, in keeping with her rural roots. 

This, of course, was debunked when the beautiful bride emerged wearing the dazzling Cartier Halo Tiara. 

The stunning piece of jewellery is made up of 739 brilliant cut diamonds and 149 baguette diamonds, and it dates back to 1936, when Queen Elizabeth II's father, King George VI, commissioned Cartier to make something magnificent for his wife, the Queen Mother.

Queen Mary's Emerald and Diamond Choker

One of the most memorable pieces of jewellery ever worn by the late Princess of Wales was the Delhi Durbar Emerald Choker, an art deco diamond and emerald piece gifted to her by the late Queen as a wedding present. 

It was first gifted to Queen Mary by the Delhi Durbar during her visit to India with King George in 1911. Meant to be worn as a choker, the ever-daring Diana surprised everyone when she wore it as a headband – cementing a whole new look and creating an iconic jewellery moment.

Kate Middleton's tanzanite set

Beautiful blue jewellery is a recurring theme for the Royal Family, but the Princess of Wales wore something new and out of the blue (pun not intended) when she attended the 2022 Order of the Garter Service. 

The deep blue stone used for both the earrings and matching necklace is tanzanite, a rare stone found only in Tanzania. The pendant necklace features 20 round brilliant-cut diamonds, set around a central stone. 

Tanzanite is one of the world's newest discovered gemstones - and is only mined in one place. A true luxury fit for a (future) Queen.

The Delhi Durbar Necklace

Throughout her history-making 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II was gifted some of the finest jewels in the world. Some were given to Her Majesty herself, and some she inherited from past generations. 

One such inherited heirloom was the stunning Delhi Durbar necklace. 

Set with nine emeralds owned by Queen Mary's grandmother and an 8.8-carat Cullinan VII diamond, the necklace originally was part of a collection made for Queen Mary's appearance at the Delhi Durbar, a ceremony marking King George V's succession as King Emperor of India in 1911 - he would become the last Emperor of India before the dissolution of the British Empire.

The Three-Strand Pearl Necklace

When one thinks of timeless elegance and classic royal jewellery, pearls immediately spring to mind. 

The late Queen Elizabeth II popularised the gemstone ever since she was a young woman. She was just 25 years old when she lost her father, and the pearl necklace that she received from him as a young girl became a significant, sentimental favourite - so much so that she had an identical one made.

Pearls became so symbolic for the late Queen that her family paid tribute to her by wearing their own set at the late monarch's funeral. 

Queen Camilla's Van Cleef and Arpels bracelet

When Camilla became Queen Consort in 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, she suddenly had access to the world's finest collection of trinkets and treasures - and while fans have seen Queen Camilla wear more historic pieces, she still relies on some of her personal favourites. 

A long-time fan of Van Cleef and Arpels, Camilla is thought to favour the Vintage Alhambra charm bracelet. 

It's not the only piece by the French jewellers owned by Her Majesty, who has been sporting various pieces since her first appearance at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party in 2005. 

Meghan Markle's Cartier Juste un Clou necklace

There's something that just makes sense about Meghan Markle's penchant for Cartier. The French brand was a favourite of another Hollywood star turned princess, Grace Kelly, and Meghan continues showcasing the Quiet Luxury, understated elegance.

One such piece showcased at Prince Harry's Invictus Games was the Juste un Clou necklace. Set with 57 diamonds, Juste un Clou translates to "just a nail" in French, and the quirky design is made to look like a long nail wrapped around the wearer's neck.

Princess Diana's Cartier Tank Francaise

Princess Diana started wearing the exquisite gold Cartier Tank Française watch around 1996, just after her divorce from Prince Charles. 

One of the houses most iconic timepieces, the Cartier Tank has adorned the wrist of everyone from Jackie Kennedy to Michelle Obama. 

Meghan Markle debuted Diana's Cartier Tank Française during the 2018 Invictus Games. 

Princess Diana's Swan Lake set

One of the houses most associated with crafting jewellery for the royals, Garrard, would create a stunning set for Princess Diana that would go on to have bittersweet significance. 

The jewels, made of platinum, were set with 214 diamonds and seven large South Sea pearls. Dubbed the the Swan Lake set after the princess wore them to the ballet during her last official engagement before her untimely death in 1997, the jewels would be sold in 2017 for a staggering £13.8 million.

Kate Middleton's emerald necklace

In 2018, Kate Middleton appeared at the 2018 BAFTAs sporting a baby bump and an elaborate emerald necklace set. 

While less is known about this spectacular set, the pieces are believed to be part of a private gift set given to her after her 2011 wedding to Prince William.

They are set with white diamonds, yellow diamonds, and square-cut emeralds, which are set within a floral border of diamonds.

Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau

For Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 2018 wedding, the American Duchess continued a centuries-old tradition of royal brides wearing a tiara for the first time. 

Princess Victoria Mary of Teck first received the dainty, elegant tiara as part of her wedding gifts upon her marriage to the Duke of York in 1893 - in 1910 the couple would become better known as King George V and Queen Mary. The tiara's first life wasn't as a headpiece at all but as a brooch. In 1932, Queen Mary commissioned Garrard to make a new tiara using the County of Lincoln Brooch as its focal diamond. 

The cluster style of the original brooch is mirrored in a set of smaller pave-set diamond clusters placed on either side of the tiara, and the central brooch remains detachable. 

The tiara wowed fans when Meghan Markle wore it on her wedding day, partly because the stunning piece hadn't been worn since 1953!

Queen Camilla’s snake necklace

Queen Camilla has always perfectly balanced the traditional with her own touches, keeping her own jewellery collection in rotation alongside pieces from the royal vaults. 

Before officially becoming Queen Consort, Her Majesty showed off her unique style with this snake inspired necklace, composed of a number of diamonds decorating the body of the snake and two glistening rubies for the eyes.

The provenance of the necklace has never been confirmed, however, various reports claim it might have once belonged to her grandmother. However, others have previously suggested the necklace was a gift from King Charles. 

Queen Mary’s Diamond Bar Choker Bracelet

Originally designed as a choker in the Art Deco style of the 1920s, the Diamond Bar Choker Bracelet wasn't seen for decades after Queen Mary died in 1953. 

It would have a second life as a bracelet, appearing around the wrist of the Queen Mother in 1975. The Queen Mother marked her 75th birthday with a series of portraits by Norman Parkinson, showcasing how she'd customised her mother's choker. 

Some years later, the choker continues to be worn as a bracelet, with Kate Middleton favouring it for various occasions, including at the Chinese State Banquet in 2015. 

The Queen Mother’s Amethyst Sautoir

From her Van Cleef and Arpels shamrock bracelet to a ballerina brooch, Queen Camilla loves a bit of whimsy when it comes to her jewellery, which might explain her decision to wear this romantic, heart-shaped necklace. 

However, there's plenty of history dating way back before Camilla. 

Queen Alexandra presented this to her granddaughter, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (aka The Queen Mother) as a wedding gift in 1923. 

While not many photos exist of the Queen Mother wearing the necklace, which includes a heart-shaped amethyst in the centre of a pearl and diamond necklace, she would eventually pass it down to her family. Queen Camilla wore it to the premiere of the James Bond movie, Skyfall, in 2012.

The Queen Mary Russian Fringe Tiara

The late Queen Elizabeth II wore many a crown during her 70-year reign, but the Queen Mary Russian Fringe Tiara will always have a special place because it's what she opted to wear for her wedding to Prince Philip. 

At the time, the then Princess Elizabeth was lent the tiara by her mother for the wedding day in 1947. The tiara's was originally made for her grandmother, Queen Mary, from a diamond necklace given by Queen Victoria for her wedding in 1893.

Since then, Anne, Princess Royal, wore the tiara during her wedding to Captain Mark Phillips and Princess Beatrice was the last to wear it, during her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020. 

Kate Middleton's Kiki McDonough earrings

It's not just blue clothing that the royals show a preference for - hues of blue shimmer their way throughout the jewellery collections for the likes of Catherine, Princess of Wales.

One of the Princess's favourite designers, Kiki McDonough, provided these blue gemstone hoop earrings in the Lola style. Made from white gold, topaz and diamonds, Kate wore them for the Coronation Garden Party in 2023. 

The Lotus Flower Tiara

The Lotus Flower Tiara bloomed back onto the scene in 2013 and delighted royal fans, after the floral crown hadn't been seen since 1993. 

When Princess Margaret's son, David Armstrong-Jones, married Serena Stanhope in 1993, Princess Margaret lent the crown to her daughter-in-law. And then it wasn't seen until Catherine, Princess of Wales wore it for a diplomatic reception in 2013. Kate has since worn the crown on multiple other occasions. 

The crown originally belonged to the Queen Mother, who commissioned Garrard to transform a necklace given to her in 1923 into a tiara instead.

Kate Middleton's Elsa Peretti Tiffany necklace

When Kate Middleton and Prince William announced to the world that they were engaged in 2010, naturally most of the attention went to the sapphire engagement ring as the young couple beamed from the hallowed grounds of St James's Palace. 

However, jewellery experts made note of the future Queen's dainty necklace. It might not be as flashy or extravagant as other pieces, but for those in the know, it's a real collector's item. 

Kate wore a Tiffany necklace, from the Elsa Peretti collection. Elsa Peretti's tenure at Tiffany and Co revolutionised jewellery design and are hugely sought after pieces. 

The Poltimore Tiara

When it came to her first wedding, to Antony Armstrong-Jones, Princess Margaret kept true to her independent and trailblazing ways, opting against borrowing a tiara from the royal vaults and going out to secure her own. 

The glamorous Princess bought herself her own crown, the Poltimore Tiara. Picked up at an auction in 1959 for just under £5,000.

The tiara originally belonged to Florence Bampfylde, Lady Poltimore, wife of the second Baron Poltimore and was made in 1870 by the House of Garrard.

Made with diamond scrolls evoking flowers and nature, the crown is the epitome of Victorian-era jewellery. The framework is comprised of both silver and gold metals, with brown ribbon intricately woven in, meant to match Margaret’s hair colour and give the illusion that it was floating above her head.

Princess Diana’s sapphire and diamond earrings

The sapphire-and-diamond earrings worn by the Princess of Wales for Trooping the Colour in 2023 delighted and excited eagle-eyed royal jewellery fans. 

The pair had previously belonged to the late Princess Diana, who showed them off on various occasions, including at the Met Gala in 1996.  

Kate regularly pays tribute to her late mother-in-law through her style choices, and the most obvious connection is with the engagement ring Prince William presented her with - it is the sapphire ring inherited by his late mother.

The Cambridge Emerald Cluster brooch

Considering their enviable reputation and memorable hue, emeralds aren't too common throughout the royal jewellery collections, which makes the Cambridge Cluster Emerald Brooch a distinct treat. 

With a round cabochon emerald surrounded by two rows of large diamonds and a line of smaller diamonds between, the brooch was left to the Queen by her grandmother Queen Mary, in 1953.

It is part of the Cambridge Emerald Collection, which has an interesting backstory. 

In 1818, when King George III's seventh son, Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge, married Princess Augusta of Hesse, they visited Frankfurt where a State lottery was held in aid of charity.

As the story goes, the Duchess bought some tickets and won a small box containing some forty graduated cabochon emeralds which would be used to create the pendant and other pieces, including a pair of drop earrings. 

The Strathmore Rose Tiara

The Strathmore Rose Tiara was a wedding gift given to the Queen Mother by her father, Lord Strathmore, before she married the Duke of York in 1923. 

Playful and romantic, the headpiece is designed to look like a garland of wild roses and was originally purchased from London-based jewellers Catchpole & Williams. 

Most recently, it was worn by the Princess of Wales at a state dinner for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee. Given Catherine's love for nature - and the fact she reportedly wanted to wear a flower crown to her 2011 wedding - this could very well become a favourite of hers in the future. 

Princess Diana's Sapphire and Pearl choker

When Princess Diana stepped out in London's Hyde Park wearing *that* revenge dress, it's pretty much all anyone could focus on. 

But, cast your gaze up a bit, and there was the most stunning pearl and sapphire choker complementing the daring look. 

The extravagant sapphire and diamond choker was a wedding gift from the Queen Mother. In the book, The Royal Jewels, fashion historian Suzy Menkes described the iconic piece as a "duck egg of a sapphire, surrounded by a double row of diamonds and mounted as a brooch."

The Williamson Diamond Brooch

The Williamson Pink Diamond brooch is the second most valuable brooch in the royal collection, estimated at around £25 million.

The brooch features a pink diamond set at the centre which was discovered in 1947 at the Williamson mine in Tanzania by John Williamson. The uncut stone - weighing in at 54.5 carats - was given to the then Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip upon their wedding in November 1947 and was displayed at St. James’s Palace ahead of the royal wedding.

After being cut, Her Majesty reportedly turned to Cartier to make a brooch fitting of spotlighting the stone. The brooch saw the introduction of an additional 203 white diamonds - a mixture of brilliants, baguettes, and marquises. Made of platinum, it was completed in 1953, the same year that Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen Elizabeth II.

The Nizam of Hyderabad

One of the most luxurious collections of jewellery in any of the royal vaults around the world is the Nizam of Hyderabad.

This Cartier-designed necklace is composed of a staggering 38 diamonds, including 13 emerald-cut diamonds and a pear-shared drop centre diamond. The necklace was a wedding gift to the then-Princess Elizabeth in 1947, gifted to her from the last ever Nizam of Hyderabad - one of the richest rulers of the time. 

It is estimated to be worth more than £63 million.

The Lover's Knot tiara

One of the most recognisable and popular tiaras, the Lover's Knot has become a favourite of Catherine, Princess of Wales just as it was for the late Princess Diana.

This hanging pearl and diamond tiara was crafted by the House of Garrard, the crown jeweller, more than 100 years ago. The enchanting tiara was originally commissioned in 1913 by Queen Mary, the grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II. It was based on a design worn by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse, based on a distinctive lover's knot motif.

It became synonymous with Princess Diana, who used it to crown a pearl-encrusted Catherine Walker outfit that came to be known as 'the Elvis look' in Hong Kong.

The Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara

Princess Eugenie's wedding day jewellery made history. 

Eugenie wore the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara when she walked down the aisle to Jack Brooksbank in 2018, and she became the first member of the Royal Family to have worn the tiara in public. 

With an estimated worth of around £10M, the tiara is made of rose-cut pave diamonds, set in platinum, and adorned with six emeralds. The centre features a 93.7 carat cabochon-cut emerald.

The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara

A tiara with a touching backstory, and one which many in the United Kingdom will perhaps be more familiar with than they realise. 

The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara was a wedding present gifted to Queen Mary in 1893, purchased with money raised by a committee of women chaired by Lady Eva Greville (who also lends her name to another fabulous headpiece, the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara and would become a Lady-in-Waiting). 

In November 1947 Queen Mary gave the tiara as a wedding present to her grand-daughter, the then Princess Elizabeth.  

The reason the tiara holds such significance is that it's the one worn by Her Majesty on most banknotes and coins used in the U.K.

The George IV State Diadem

Made for the Coronation of King George IV in 1820, the state diadem is rich in history (and diamonds). 

It has been worn by every queen and queen consort since 1820.

The epic headpiece is made of 1,333 diamonds, with its central diamond weighing
four carats.

The Cullinan III and IV Brooch

The magnificent Cullinan III and IV brooch is one of those pieces of jewellery which could only belong to one of the oldest monarchies in the world. 

The brooch reportedly uses the third and fourth largest stones cut from the famous Cullinan Diamond, the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found totalling 3106 carats which was presented to King Edward VII in 1907 and cut by Joseph Asscher. When it was cut, the smaller stones each received a Roman numeral, from I to IX. 

Wondering where the first and second largest stones are? They are in the Sceptre and the Imperial State Crown.  The brooch is the most expensive in the royal vault, worth an approximated £50 million.

Princess Diana and Kate Middleton's sapphire engagement ring

The engagement ring which has belonged to two Princesses of Wales past and current might not be the most valuable or the most historic, but it has become arguably one of the most iconic and treasured pieces of jewellery in recent history. 

Featuring a serene 12-carat oval sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, the ring was first presented to Princess Diana by Prince Charles. 

It is said that His Majesty picked the ring from the House of Garrard to present to his future wife (along with a few others) as it reminded him of a sapphire and diamond brooch which was treasured by his grandmother. Diana, it's believed, picked it from the offerings as it matched her famous blue eyes.

For years, it was reported that Prince Harry inherited his late mother's ring, and he selflessly gave it to William to propose to Kate with. However, none of this was true, as Harry cleared up in his 2023 memoir, Spare. 

He wrote, "The papers published florid stories about the moment I realized Willy and Kate were well matched, the moment I appreciated the depth of their love and thus decided to gift Willy the ring I'd inherited from Mummy, the legendary sapphire... A tender moment between brothers, a bonding moment for all three of us, and absolute rubbish. None of it ever happened. I never gave Willy that ring because it wasn't mine to give. He already had it. He'd asked for it after Mummy died, and I'd been more than happy to let it go."

British acting royalty Helen Mirren displayed these stunning diamond earrings designed by Asprey, resembling fireworks at the 2014 BAFTAs. She also wore matching rings and bracelets, exuding timeless elegance and giving a well-rounded look that looked wonderful alongside her navy sequinned dress. A simple up-do gives this look a truly elevated feel.

Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell exuded late 90s/early noughties supermodel glam at the 2000 BAFTAs in an elegant silver necklace featuring one radiant-cut diamond. She complemented this refined necklace with simple (but large!) diamond stud earrings that just peeked out from under her fringed messy bun. A dark grey halter-neck dress doesn’t overcomplicate the look and adds a touch of cool-girl, 90s style. A warm, purple lipstick has a classic glossy 90s sheen.

Bringing Marilyn Monroe-esque glamour to the 2004 BAFTAs, Scarlett Johansson wore a classic old Hollywood gown with embellished straps and bow detailing on the waist. Her jewellery has a fun, modern twist with two diamond necklaces layered together to give maximum impact and featuring different coloured stones to add a pop of colour. The same can be said for the earrings, which worked super well with her warm gold hair that was styled to suit the 1950s theme. 

Julianne Moore

Here is Julianne Moore proving the timeless allure of a simple black and white dress. Wearing a column gown with a small black flowing train and matching halter-neck straps, she accessorised with bold emerald earrings by Chopard and two different styles of silver rings with diamonds. The hoop earrings feature different-sized jewels and add a sense of texture to her shimmering look. The star took her bold accessories one step further and wore a hot pink lipstick, which is well matched to this daring ensemble.

Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz showed her classic style on the red carpet in 2009, wearing a simple black dress studded with small crystals that shone in the light. Its halter-neck style and small train gave off a smart look that perfectly complemented her diamond cluster earrings, sapphire ring and gold bracelet without looking too OTT. A chic knotted up-do and blunt fringe gave the whole look a cool-girl finish, while a warm smokey eye kept everything cohesive.

Cate Blanchett

This outfit meshes fashion and jewellery in one, and we love it. The actress wore this stunning panel chest piece with different colour gemstones arranged in a mix-and-match style, all held by small chains at the 2019 awards. She paired the Christopher Kane dress with similar style gemstone rings designed by Ritratto. Her dark, chocolate-coloured hair perfectly complements this fun and elegant ensemble. 

Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz always exudes classic elegance on the red carpet, often opting for timeless silhouettes in minimal colours to show off her red carpet style. At the 2019 BAFTAs, however, she opted for a fun, ruffled Gucci gown that gave off a regal charm. Her jewellery and accessories were just as regal, as she sported the iconic jewellery brand Cartier, artfully modelling simple diamond drop earrings, a diamond belt resembling a ribbon and a rather large diamond ring. The ensemble is perfectly finished with a pop of red on the lips. 

Greta Gerwig

Director Greta Gerwig brought some old-school Hollywood charm to the red carpet at the 2024 BAFTAs in a stunning Bulgari necklace featuring a serpent's head and chains encrusted with diamonds that emulate scales. The gold necklace features a show-stopping emerald, while the eyes of the snake’s head on the silver necklace are also green, bringing the whole look together. 

Anne Hathaway

Hot off the success of the film adaptation of the famous novel Les Misérables, Anne Hathaway brought a touch of literature into her outfit at the 2013 BAFTAs. Holding a custom-made clutch by British accessories designer Anya Hindmarch, the clutch featured a vintage cover of the book by Victor Hugo and was lined with soft suede and satin, according to Hello! Her bracelets were gold and studded with small diamonds, while her earrings were silver and had one simple black stone, likely an onyx. 

Emma Stone

Looking like the epitome of glamour and eccentric charm, Emma Stone’s 2024 BAFTAs outfit was a head-to-toe masterpiece. Her gown was custom-made by designer Louis Vuitton and took 450 hours to create, according to Harper's Bazaar. The peach gown with one voluminous shoulder and plenty of detailing was no doubt inspired by her role as Bella Baxter in the film Poor Things, a film filled with whimsical outfits, makeup and stage design. The jewellery was just as breath-taking, all taken from Louis Vuitton’s High Jewellery collection and featured yellow gold, platinum, garnet and diamonds aplenty.  

Viola Davis

Viola Davis dazzled in elaborate diamond earrings and a bracelet designed by Bulgari at the 2017 BAFTAs. Its intricate designs resembled a serpent head and added some eccentric glamour to her two-tone blue-panelled dress, while a bracelet with a similar winding serpent motif has made this look one of our favourite Viola Davis outfits she’s ever worn. Colourful, bright and refined, it's a flawless red carpet ensemble.

Rosamund Pike

Rosamund Pike chose to sport tones of gold, yellow and black on the red carpet in 2011, wearing a dress that wouldn’t look out of place on a holiday to the Mediterranean. She looked radiant in the simple halter-neck Alexander McQueen dress but it was her gold accessories that really caught our eye. Gold is featured throughout the look, from her chic chunky hoop earrings to sleek, thick bangles and belts to a shimmery gold clutch with an intricate design on its hardware.

Lucy Boynton

Actress Lucy Boynton did not disappoint at the 2022 BAFTAs, taking elements from 1950s Hollywood glamour and giving them a modern feel in a Chanel gown with embellished overlay cape and earrings that featured pearl tassels and a warm yellow/ orange stone that appeared to have a small diamond hummingbird (naturally) pecking away at the stone. This same motif was also on her impressive stone ring which gave a truly elegant finish to her outfit.

Barbie star and all-around It-girl Margot Robbie dazzled in diamond Chanel jewellery on the red carpet at the 2020 BAFTAs. The dazzling earrings shone brilliantly beneath her neatly styled updo and added a touch of sparkle alongside her black and diamond ring to her simple black lace dress. Her makeup also brings a touch of edge to this smart look, with a lightly smudged eyeliner look and warm nude lipstick.

Florence Pugh

This is a seriously impressive example of jewellery at the BAFTAs. Florence Pugh wore a glam Boucheron necklace that cascaded down her chest at the 2024 BAFTAs and paired the look with simple small diamond stud earrings. The theme of silver was carried into her Harris Reed dress, which featured silver panels. For makeup, she opted for a stunning nude lipstick, paired with a smokey eye and feathered brows.

Naomie Harris

Bringing light and feminine style to the BAFTAs red carpet, Naomie Harris looked wonderful in this pale pink and off-white Gucci dress that evoked the feeling of floaty summer dresses and flower gardens. Her jewellery has the same effect too and features light coloured gemstones set in gold, all designed by Atelier Swarovski. Light pops of pink and purple from the makeup tie this look together to create something really pretty, and is the perfect inspiration for a spring makeup look.

Nicola Coughlan

Star of Derry Girls and Bridgerton, Irish actress Nicola Coughlan has catapulted to stardom in recent years and has showcased her unique and fun style on the red carpet. Wearing a dreamy lilac-coloured Haute Couture Valentino gown studded with bows, she looked stunning as she hosted an award at the 2022 BAFTAs. Her accessories were also memorable, wearing halo earrings and a cool knuckle-duster ring designed by Messika. A light wash of lilac on the eyes shows how easy it is to wear purple eyeshadow while a deep nude lip ties the whole look together. 

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek took full advantage of the glamour of the red carpet for her look at the 2019 BAFTAs, wearing a dramatic black velvet Gucci gown with a large lizard brooch, golden earrings and an interesting mesh headband studded with diamonds designed by Boucheron. A sleek large bun updo keeps all the focus on the headband and (probably) life-size lizard proudly sitting on her right shoulder. Thanks to its classic tailoring and opulent fabric, this outfit manages to look both classic and eccentric.

Jessica Chastain

In a dress featuring an exaggerated structured neckline, beautiful layers and a skirt that beautifully skimmed the floor, Jessica Chastain exuded class at the 2013 awards. Her jewels also perfectly matched her dress and her bright blue sapphire and diamond earrings and bracelet brought the whole look together.

Emilia Clarke

Emilia Clarke opted for a bold red dress on the BAFTA red carpet in 2016 and paired it with equally as bold silver jewellery designed by Tiffany & Co. Diamond cluster earrings set in platinum added a touch of drama to her look, which she finished with a matching flower style silver ring, exuding timeless elegance.

French actress Léa Seydoux wore this captivating egg yolk yellow outfit at the 2015 BAFTAs, that matched all the way from her warm blonde hair to her yellow Chopard earrings. Decked in Gucci, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan showcased her love of fun jewellery on the BAFTAs red carpet in these eye-catching dangly earrings that featured yellow, purple, green, blue and gold stones. A chic, French-girl up-do ensures these jewels remain the focus of the look, while a cool orange-toned red lipstick is paired with simple, minimal eye makeup.  She finished the look with a thick bangle with a Leopard’s head on it.

Charlize Theron

A vision in purple, Charlize Theron radiated glamour at the BAFTAs in 2020 in a Dior gown. The striking dress features pleats throughout and a simple black belt that was the perfect mix of fun and elegance. The jewellery was equally as stunning, and she opted for a gold and diamond choker from Tiffany & Co. from their TI collection to add a touch of shine to the look. She completed the glam ensemble with simple rings and small earrings studded along her ear.

Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita Nyong’o is no stranger to dazzling on the red carpet and sure knows how to turn heads in beautiful outfits. This look is no different. Fun beaded earrings are complemented with touches of silver and diamonds and offer a touch of bohemian chic to her cool, cut-out panel dress that contrasts chiffon and velvet fabrics while a sheer wash of red adds the perfect pop of colour to a monochromatic outfit. The look is also impactful because of the Time’s Up pin worn on her right shoulder, calling for an end to harassment and mistreatment of women in the world of film and television. 

Emily Blunt

Actress Emily Blunt adorned herself in colour at the BAFTAs red carpet, wearing a beautiful Alexander McQueen gown with ruffles and an embroidered bodice with vibrant Lorraine Schwartz earrings featuring 50 carats of blue sapphires, according to The Jewellery Editor, and a life-size dragonfly ring that sat elegantly on the top of her hands. Simple black eyeliner flicks, fluttery lashes and a light coral tones lipstick give this look a quintessentially British flair that is both fun and elegant.

Helena Bonham Carter

Equal parts kooky and sophisticated, Helena Bonham Carter gave us traditional red carpet cool in her sunnies at the 2014 BAFTAs. The sunglasses are (of course) jewelled and bedazzled within an inch of their life and worked perfectly with her pearl and silver jewellery that gracefully adorned her neck, ears and hands. But the jewels didn’t stop at pearls and diamonds, as she also sported a bracelet with sizable emeralds too, giving a pop of colour to a classic and simple look. Breakfast at Tiffany’s s-esque hair completes this ensemble.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is no stranger to donning stunning jewels for events (remember the 128-carat Breakfast at Tiffany’s diamond from the 2019 Oscars?), and the 2022 BAFTAs was no exception for the singer, songwriter and actress. Wearing a mesmerising deep green Ralph Lauren gown, the singer opted for jewels that almost perfectly matched the same shade of green, all designed by Tiffany & Co. With emeralds and diamonds on her earrings, necklace and bracelet, it was a classic look from the master of red carpet dressing.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams showed us all just how universally flattering green is at the BAFTAs in 2017 in a beautiful column gown that was wonderfully complemented with eye-catching jade-coloured drop earrings. She completed the look with an equally eye-catching thick gold bangle with a large green stone.

Gillian Anderson

Gillian Anderson oozed red carpet charm at the BAFTA awards in 2020. She opted for a classic black velvet strapless dress and red accessories to add a touch of grown-up glam to her look. She sported a diamond necklace and earrings designed by Tiffany & Co., adding a touch of sparkle to her black gown, working perfectly with her sumptuous red handbag and heels.

Gemma Arterton

British actress Gemma Arterton stunned in this dark-hued elegant ensemble at the 2018 BAFTAs. The dress was a beautiful black velvet and tulle gown that gave us Victorian-era drama, a hallmark style of fashion icon Vivienne Westwood. A super sleek ballerina-style bun with deep side parting made this look super feminine and elegant.

Jennifer Aniston's recent appearance at an Apple TV event in LA has caused quite the fashion stir, with the actress moving away from her typical neutral tones and minimalist style with a red floral dress and an impressive collection of chunky gold jewellery. 

The star arrived at Paramount Studios in LA in an eye-catching crimson red dress with a romantic floral motif that's perfect for a summer capsule wardobe. The fitted bodice gave the actor an incredible silhouette, while chunky gold bracelets rings and a pendant necklace offset the delicate dress. Red kitten heels with an elegant ankle strap complete the look. 

I've often shied away from wearing too much gold jewellery, particularly if it's a chunkier style, in the worry that it will look a bit overkill. In my younger days, I opted for huge hoops and chunky 'statement' necklaces to match the typical jeans-and-a-nice-top outfits, but that's not a fashion period I'm keen to revisit. As my style matured, simple and elegant (and often silver) seemed to be the way to go for a more effortless and grown-up jewellery style. 

However, Jennifer Aniston's gold accessories have certainly inspired me – I love the way the star has mixed and matched trends for an eclectic, yet stylish, look. Jen's jewellery for the event is chunky and bold, but also gives a nod to summer's boho trend with a statement gemstone ring and pendant necklace. As one of the original 'quiet luxury' fashion icons, Jen tends to favour cool minimalist fashion and that often means her jewellery is simple and elegant rather than statement.

It's refreshing to see the actor trial a new look, putting her stylish spin on the gold jewellery trend, and it's definitely one I'll be drawing inspiration from this summer. Adding gemstones and pendants into the mix when it comes to gold jewellery creates a softer look - I can see it working well with crochet dresses, embroidered blouses and woven bags. Think vintage-inspired pieces and billowing, lightweight fabrics worn for summer festivals, relaxed garden parties and summer holiday cocktails.

With Sienna Miller's boho-inspired collection with M&S flying off the shelves, it's clear that there's a big appetite for the trend. These are my favourite gold pieces on the high street, as inspired by Jen's look.

Actress Lily Gladstone shone on our screens in her powerful portrayal of Indigenous woman Molly Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon and received critical acclaim and nominations during the 2024 awards season. She was positively covered in stunning jewellery on the red carpet, most notably a Bulgari High Jewellery necklace set in 50-carat round and pavé-set diamonds and a pair of truly gorgeous earrings designed by Indigenous Blackfeet/ Cree bead artist Lenise Omeasoo. The rather rare ‘pumpkin’ orange-coloured ring on her pinky finger was reportedly 5.54-carat and was purchased by jewellery designer to the stars Harry Winston in 1997 around the time of Halloween (hence the fitting name!). The Colombian-American actress made heads turn on the 2013 Emmys red carpet, in a luxurious red lace gown and eye-popping Lorraine Schwartz jewellery rumoured to be worth a whopping $7 million! The sapphire, ruby and emerald earrings boldly hang from her ears and while they no doubt would have caught the light, they do not seem to overpower her bright outfit. She additionally wore two bold rings with different cut diamonds for each hand (of course!).

Jane Seymour

British acting legend Jane Seymour looked wonderful at the 1988 Emmys where she won Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in Onassis: The Richest Man in the World. The jewellery was all about the pearls - she wore large teardrop-shaped earrings studded with different shapes and sizes of pearls and finished with gold detailing. The earrings were the perfect addition to her milky white embellished frock. 

Zendaya

Zendaya has given us numerous memorable looks over the years, from the Emmys to her truly iconic Met Gala looks. Here, jewellery is the star of the show as she sports dreamy drop earrings and a statement bangle designed by Cartier. The highly reflective nature of these jewels work beautifully against her dark emerald green Vera Wang gown and give a sense of timeless elegance to her look.

Pictured here attending the 2019 Emmy Awards for her role in Sharp Objects, Amy Adams wore these large hoop earrings, encrusted with 40 carats of diamonds. The unique and truly fun earrings featured diamonds, lavender jade and blackened platinum. Accompanying the look was a rather noughties sequined slinky gown and matched the look with typical Y2K frosty eyeshadow and baby pink blush on her cheeks.

These glamorous turquoise earrings were worn by actress and star of Desperate Housewives Marcia Cross in 2007. Three-tiered and encrusted with diamonds, these teardrop earrings were an amazing piece of jewellery designed by Lorraine Schwartz.

Acting royalty Jane Fonda brought out the big guns at the 2017 Emmys, wearing a necklace that cascaded down her back and was studded with emeralds. The impressive jewellery set was completed with matching earrings that were all designed by Gismondi 1754, perfectly contrasting her hot pink dress. Her hair is in a sleek ponytail and ensures all eyes remain on these incredible jewels. 

Zooey Deschanel

Proving that diamonds really are a girl's best friend, Zooey Deschanel wore this eye-popping tourmaline cocktail ring designed by Chanel at the 2013 Emmys. The ring was the perfect compliment to her J. Mendel gown which was a similar icy blue colour and really made her eye colour shine here. Giving the look a sense of playfulness, she accented this class with a fun nail design that we think anyone can pull off. 

Thandiwe Newton

Looking super feminine and fun in a pink one-shoulder gown designed by Brandon Maxwell, Thandiwe Newton shone on the red carpet at the 2018 Primetime Emmys. Wearing stunning layered hoop earrings that were studded with small diamonds, they offered the perfect touch of sparkle and shine to her refined look.

Star of Modern Family, Sarah Hyland gave us major jewellery envy at the 2016 Emmys where she rocked a beautifully bold set of orange sapphire and diamond earrings in the shape of a rose, designed by Lorraine Schwartz. Wearing a lavish earring and necklace set to the 1998 Emmy Awards, Christine Baranski wowed in plenty of diamonds and rubies. An icon of the stage and screen, Barbara Streisand is no stranger to gracing the red carpet. Here she is pictured at the 1965 Emmys wearing a beautiful sequined gown that was accessorised with the most elegant diamond drop earrings - proving bold jewellery on the red carpet isn’t always necessary. Her signature winged eyeliner and arched eyebrows are a reminder of how 60s makeup can be worn in so many fresh and modern ways.

Pose star and activist Billy Porter wore this jaw-dropping Lorraine Schwartz diamond ear cuff and diamond and emerald necklace that was rumoured to be valued at $1 million! The outfit was far from boring as well, as he wore a winged all-black ensemble that was adorned with rings also by Lorraine Schwartz and H. Crowne.

Pictured here at the 1976 Emmys, Betty White shone as she won the Outstanding Continuing Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Wearing gorgeously classy thin pave-diamond oval earrings and a dainty chain necklace, the actress looked radiant in her bejewelled gown. 

Sarah Snook

Succession star Sarah Snook wore a fun jewellery look at the 2022 Emmys, studded with aquamarine, tourmaline, morganite, kunzite and emeralds. Designed by Irene Neuwirth, this fun relaxed choker look was an amazing addition to her simple silvery gown.

Tracee Ellis Ross

What better way to accessorise a gorgeously sequined Chanel gown than with diamond and pearl earrings? Designed by jewellery designer Irene Neuwirth, these gorgeous earrings caught the light beautifully as Ross walked the red carpet. The three-strand diamond pendants are artfully finished with rather eye-catching pearls to add a touch of Hollywood sparkle.

Virginia Mayo

Hollywood starlet Virginia Mayo wore these impressive jewels to the 1955 Emmys. A mix of diamonds and pearls features in this necklace, draping into three different pendants that all sit at different heights. Her earrings are just as glam, featuring the same stone pendant style but this time on a pave-diamond hoop. Truly gorgeous! 

Viola Davis

In 2019, Viola Davis wore a gorgeous black and white look at the Emmys showcasing truly beautiful jewellery. The How to Get Away with Murder star wore a gorgeous trio of Forevermark necklaces set in 78 carats of diamonds and gave a timeless touch of sparkle to her beautifully elegant gown. 

Jameela Jamil

Decked out head-to-toe in Tiffany’s blue, actress Jameela Jamil wore a load of sparkly David Webb jewellery that matched her gorgeous, princess-like gown. Wearing earrings, a big ring and a statement bangle, they were all studded with turquoise and were wonderfully contrasted by a fun pop of coral on the lips. 

Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren made things classy and simple as she walked the Emmys red carpet in a lovely floaty white dress and a decadent diamond and emerald choker designed by jewellery powerhouse Fred Leighton. The focus of the necklace (and perhaps the entire look) is the beautiful oval-cut emerald at the front of the choker, which is set on three rows of small diamonds. She gave the look a final glitzy flourish with small pendant earrings that peeked out from just under her lightly curled bob. 

Kristin Davis

At the 2003 Emmys, Kristin Davis wore these truly gorgeous amethyst and gold chandelier-style earrings designed by Fred Leighton that tied in perfectly with her purple dress. The actress, who is known for playing art critic Charlotte York in Sex and the City, attended the awards with lovely fresh makeup and big loose curls in her hair that gave off a truly effortless red carpet style moment. 

Cynthia Erivo

Wearing a not-so-subtle feathered Louis Vuitton gown, Cynthia Erivo accessorised with plenty of bling at the 2021 Emmy Awards. Wearing jewels designed by Italian designer Roberto Coin, Erivo wore a diamond choker, an assortment of earrings and a statement ring. 

January Jones

Channelling her inner ballet dancer, January Jones wore this impressive jewellery look at the 2008 Emmys. Rather than sporting jewels on her neck, the actress wore a truly magnificent five-row diamond hairband that glittered in the light and sat beautifully on her low bun hairdo. To continue with the apparent ballerina theme, she wore a lightly feathered dress, reminiscent of a ballerina’s tutu and headpiece. 

When it comes to tiaras, the royals tend to keep it in the family and each piece we see normally has decades, or hundreds of years of history behind it. And the Princess of Wales's tiaras are no different.

Kate Middleton's best style moments over the years have proven that the Princess is an undisputed Queen when it comes to taste and style. And part of her success lies in her ability to bring together current trends and timeless looks, often teaming historical jewellery pieces with contemporary gowns. 

As many royal fans will already know, several pairs of Kate Middleton's best earrings throughout the years are inherited heirlooms from Princess Diana. But it isn't just earrings which passed between the past and present Princess of Wales - Kate is known to share similar favourite diadems, bracelets and other treasures associated with the People's Princess.

The sapphire and diamond double-drop earrings

Sapphires were famously one of Princess Diana's favourite gemstones, and they were prominently on display with a pair of double-drop earrings which have become favoured by Kate Middleton. 

The double-drop sapphire earrings were part of a suite gifted to her by the Crown Prince Fahd of Saudi Arabia when she first married Prince Charles. 

Catherine has worn the dazzling pair on multiple occasions, including the famous Sandringham Christmas walkabout in 2023 where she complemented the gemstone with an all-blue outfit. She matched the ocean blue earrings with a vibrant blue Alexander McQueen coat, a navy headpiece and navy suede boots.  

The diamond and South Sea pearl drop earrings

Princess Diana's elegant diamond and South Sea pearl earrings – which feature a horseshoe design, intricately-linked marquise-cut diamonds and a detachable South Sea pearl – were a favourite, with the late Princess wearing them on many high-profile occasions including her visit to Japan in 1990 for the Enthronement Banquet of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan.

Kate Middleton was first photographed wearing the stunning pair when she attended the BAFTA Awards in 2019 in an iconic royal red carpet moment. For the event, she seemingly customised the pair with a smaller pair of pearls. 

Sapphire and diamond single stud earrings

As it turns out, the late Princess Diana had two pairs of sapphire and diamond earrings, one a double drop set and another a single stud-like pair.

They were all thought to be included as a wedding gift suite presented to her by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, a more than fitting match for her sapphire engagement ring. 

It's widely reported that the sapphire studs were given to Catherine by Prince William after he proposed in 2010. Kate has worn the pair on multiple occasions throughout the years, updating the style to a drop design. 

The Queen Mary emerald choker

Technically not one of Princess Diana's personal pieces, the Queen Mary emerald choker is part of the royal collection of jewels. The Art Deco masterpiece dates back to Queen Mary in 1911. 

Queen Mary wore the piece at the Delhi Dubar in 1911, which marked the proclamation of King George V and Mary as Emperor and Empress of India. The choker was commissioned from royal jeweller Garrard using emeralds gifted by the Ladies Of India.

It became associated with the late Princess of Wales as she would often borrow the eye-catching piece with the permission of the late Queen Elizabeth II. 

Diana famously wore the piece as a headband in 1985 during her tour of Australia alongside the then Prince Charles. Kate Middleton has been pictured wearing the piece once, pairing the extravagant emerald gems with a rented neon green gown for the 2022 Earthshot Prize. 

Queen Mary's Lover's Knot tiara

Officially part of the royal collection and not a personal item of Princess Diana's, the iconic Lover's Knot tiara became closely associated with Diana who was known to favour the piece throughout many important appearances. 

Sometimes referred to as the Cambridge Lover's Knot, the diadem is a replica of an earlier tiara owned by Queen Mary.

The original was created for Queen Mary in 1914 by the House of Garrard from pearls and diamonds already owned by her family. Mary modelled it after her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse's, headpiece, the original Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara (which is now thought to be owned privately). 

So closely tied to the late Princess, the tiara wasn’t seen after Diana’s death until Kate Middleton wore it for the first time for the Annual Diplomatic Reception in 2015, pairing it with an ice blue gown by Alexander McQueen.

The three-row pearl bracelet

The diamond and pearl bracelet often sported by the late Princess of Wales had a special connection to one of her chosen charities. 

The piece was designed by Nigel Milne as part of a three-piece collection created in 1988 to raise money for Birthright, a charity for whom Diana was a patron. The charity focused on preventing the death of women and babies during pregnancy and childbirth. 

Kate first wore the bracelet during a royal tour in Germany in 2017.

Japanese four-row pearl choker and diamond clasp

The four-row pearl necklace is part of the royal collection. It was originally made by Garrard using pearls gifted to the late Queen Elizabeth by the Japanese government. 

The pearl choker – which also features a large diamond clasp at the centre – was first loaned to Princess Diana for a state banquet in honour of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 1982. 

It became one of the iconic looks of the late Princess, and Kate Middleton wore the choker for the first time at a dinner celebrating the Queen and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary in 2017. 

Prince of Wales feathers brooch

A historic piece which has been passed down to Princesses of Wales since Queen Alexandra in 1863, Princess Diana was pivotal in modernising the jewel. 

The piece includes three ostrich feathers and a coronet in the centre - the badge of the Prince of Wales - surrounded by a series of diamonds and emeralds, with an emerald drop hanging down below. 

Known for styling pieces her own way, Diana wore it as a pendant on a necklace at a number of high-profile events. It was a significant moment for Kate Middleton when she debuted the item during a ceremonial welcome of South Africa's president in 2022. It was the first official state visit Kate attended since taking on the title of Princess of Wales. 

The Collingwood pearl and diamond earrings

A personal gift to Princess Diana from the Collingwood jewellers, the pearl drop earrings hang from two round diamonds at the top and three rows of smaller diamonds underneath. 

They were worn by the late Princess on many occasions, including as part of her 'going away' outfit as the newly-betrothed Prince Charles and Diana left for their honeymoon after marrying in 1981. 

The Collingwood pearl earrings have since become a favourite for Kate, too, after debuting them during a state banquet for the Spanish royals in 2017. Kate also chose to wear them for a series of special portraits released for her 40th birthday.

Double-drop earrings, Boston

During Prince William and Kate Middleton's three-day tour of the United States in 2022, Kate offered a masterclass in mixing glamorous jewellery with everyday business wear. 

In an aubergine Alexander McQueen suit and matching turtleneck, Middleton Kate sported the iconic two-tier sapphire and diamond earrings.

The earrings - part of a suite given to Princess Diana for her wedding to Charles - feature a double sapphire and diamond cluster. Each cluster is made up of a cabochon sapphire centre stone and diamonds around the outside (the top includes eight diamonds, while the bottom are surrounded by nine).

Wearing the pearl necklace for the Queen's funeral

Catherine, Princess of Wales' choice of jewellery for the historic State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II was, perhaps, intentional in its significance. 

Known for sending messages in clothing choices, the Princess of Wales paid tribute to two generations of matriarchs who came before her for the important occasion. 

After reigning for an unprecedented 70 years, the Queen's state funeral was always going to be highly emotional and of high interest across the world. By wearing the pearl choker - a favourite of William's mother and originally a gift for his grandmother - Kate paid tribute to the family she married into, and nodded to her role as the future Queen.

The four-string pearl necklace stood out in stark contrast to Kate's black coat dress by Alexander McQueen and wide-brimmed, veiled hat by British milliner Sean Barrett.

Multiple pieces for King Charles' Scottish Coronation

On 5 July 2023, a few months after the spectacular Coronation of King Charles at Westminster Abbey, the King received the Honours of Scotland at St Giles' Cathedral -  a sort of Scottish crowning. 

For the occasion, the Princess of Wales - or the Duchess of Rothesay, per her titles in Scotland - wore a coat dress by Catherine Walker (a favourite of the late Diana's) and a matching hat by Philip Treacy. 

It wasn't just Diana's favourite designer Kate chose, she paired her look with both the Collingwood pearl earrings and the Japanese four-chain pearl necklace - two pieces previously worn by the late princess.

Reinventing a sapphire necklace

In late 2020, Kate Middleton first debuted a new pendant necklace bearing the classic sapphire gemstone that she's now associated with. 

Per Town and Country, it's believed that Kate Middleton repurposed some of Diana's sapphire suite to make the new necklace. 

Diana received the suite as a gift from the Saudi royal family as a wedding gift in 1981 and would wear the stones in a variety of settings, including earrings, necklaces, and a headband. 

The daintier necklace is more to Kate's subtle style, and it's not unheard of for the royals to tweak pieces over the years. 

Wearing the Lover's Knot tiara in 2016

Kate wore the Lover's Knot tiara for only the second time publicly in December 2016 to the annual the diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace. 

Sadly, not too many photos exist from the soiree itself due to the highly secure nature of the event, but we did get a glimpse of the now Princess wearing the meaningful tiara for a second time, pairing it with a red gown.

It is the largest reception held at Buckingham Palace, requiring hours of intricate planning by the Master of the Household and the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, as well as the commandeering of almost every member of waiting staff.

More than 1,000 people from around 130 countries attend. 

Wearing Diana's pearl bracelet to meet Ukraine's First Lady

The Princess of Wales met with Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska in 2022, months after the country was invaded by Russia.  For the occasion, she wore Princess Diana's delicate three-strand pearl bracelet. 

While it was a fitting tribute to her late mother-in-law - a known advocate for peace and charitable deeds - there's another reason pearls were a natural choice at the time. 

The meeting took place shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth in September of that year, and pearls have long been thought of as the traditional mourning jewellery for the royals. 

It is understood the tradition reportedly dates back to Queen Victoria. 

Following the death of her husband Prince Albert in 1861, Queen Victoria was so overcome with grief that she only wore black for 40 years, teaming her colourless outfits with pearls, said to represent tears. 

The diamond and pearl drop earrings for Royal Ascot

In 2022, the Princess of Wales attended day four of Royal Ascot, one of the favourite events in the royals' summer social calendar. 

For the event, Kate soaked up the sunny vibes in a light, silky brown-and-white polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich. She paired the dress with a hat by Sally-Ann Provan, brown pumps and a brown clutch.

Complementing her outfit's light and neutral palette, Kate opted for Diana's timeless diamond and South Sea pearl drop earrings. 

Trooping the Colour, 2023

Trooping the Colour - the annual parade to celebrate the birthday of the sovereign - is always a major draw for royal fans, especially as the likes of Kate Middleton, Duchess Sophie and Queen Camilla bring their fashion A-game.

For the 2023 parade, it was extra special. It was the first since the death of Queen Elizabeth - meaning it was the first of King Charles' reign and the first with Kate as Princess of Wales. 

Kate relied on Princess Diana's iconic double-drop diamond and sapphire earrings for the event, paired with a vibrant emerald green outfit by Singapore-born designer Andrew Gn.

Reimagining the Prince of Wales feather brooch

King Charles III observed his first Commonwealth Day service as the head of the union of 56 nations with a traditional Westminster Abbey church service in 2023, and his daughter-in-law was on hand to support. 

For the ceremony, the dutiful Princess of Wales wore a navy Erdem blouse with white floral embroidery, a matching peplum skirt, and a navy blue hat. To mark the historic event, she also wore the Prince of Wales feather pendant.

The historic heirloom dates back centuries, being worn by previous Princesses of Wales including Diana. This time, however, she chose not to hang a gemstone off the pendant, which had become custom.

Bringing a touch of tradition to the Caribbean, 2022

In 2022, Prince William and Kate Middleton took a tour of the Caribbean to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. 

For the tour, Kate kept her outfits very traditional and what we'd come to expect from her - with an Alexander McQueen lacy, white dress being a particular highlight. 

Keeping the monochromatic colour scheme, the Princess of Wales kept her jewellery simple, showcasing the pearl bracelet. The only flash of colour came from the sapphire engagement ring also passed down by Princess Diana. 

Remembrance Sunday service, 2022

For the first Remembrance Sunday after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Kate Middleton - newly appointed as the Princess of Wales - stuck with her tried-and-tested recipe for success when it came to style. 

She opted for a Catherine Walker coat, a favourite designer of both her and her late mother-in-law, plus a dramatic wide-brimmed hat. 

The hat and her pulled-back ponytail allowed her choice of earrings to stand out. The poignant pair were the pearl drop earrings passed down by the late Diana.

She completed her jewellery choices with an art deco diamond brooch designed by Bentley & Skinner.

Adding sapphire sparkle to a day-look, 2019

In 2019, Prince William and Kate Middleton helped open the V&A Museum in Dundee. 

Princess Kate's outfit choices showed how she thoughtfully incorporated many facets of her royal roles, honouring her Scottish titles with a gorgeous blue and green tartan coat and honouring the Princess of Wales title she would go on to inherit with the sapphire and diamond earrings that previously belonged to Diana. 

Stepping into her role for the State Visit of South Korea's president

In November 2023, Prince William and Kate Middleton took on one of their first major duties since becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales under the reign of King Charles.

Together, as had become custom, the heirs welcomed President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee at their hotel and travelled with them to the Horse Guards Parade to greet the King and Queen.

Kate opted for a striking red cape-style coat by Catherine Walker with a matching hat.

The bold red of the outfit offered a dramatic contrast to the icy blue of the sapphire and diamond drop earrings, once owned by the late Princess Diana. 

Choosing the Lover's Knot tiara for Donald Trump's State Visit

A visit from the US President will always make the royals bring out their best, and Donald Trump's 2019 State Banquet saw Kate Middleton opt for some classic go-tos. 

The Princess of Wales, like Princess Diana before her, showed again that she had a preference for the Lover’s Knot tiara. 

She paired the diadem with the Queen Mother’s sapphire and diamond fringe earrings for the event.

Kate also wore a blue, red and white sash of the Royal Victorian Order on her shoulder over her white Alexander McQueen gown. 

Order of the Garter, 2023

Kate Middleton looked the epitome of an English Rose in a My Fair Lady-esque ensemble for the 2023 Order of the Garter service. 

The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain, established by King Edward III nearly 700 years ago.

Pairing her light and summery Alessandra Rich white-and-black polka dot down with an elaborate Philip Treacy hat and a pair of two-tone heels by Jennifer Chamandi, the Princess of Wales finished the look with a Strathberry clutch and the diamond and pearl earrings that formerly belonged to Princess Diana. 

Looking extra regal with velvet and the Lover's Knot, 2019

By December 2019, Kate Middleton had proven that, like Diana before her, the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara had become her favourite. She wore the enchanting crown for the eighth time for a Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace. 

Paired with an incredibly regal looking velvet Alexander McQueen gown, Kate's choice of tiara added a glistening finish. 

The tiara, commissioned by Queen Mary, has plenty of sparkle to elevate any occasion - it consists of numerous diamonds and 19 hanging pearls, all set in silver and gold.

All-white for Anzac Day

Anzac Day, which is marked on the 25th of April each year, is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that commemorates those who have served and died in conflict. 

William and Kate paid their respects in 2022, attending a service at Westminster Abbey. 

Kate kept things simple and refined for the sombre occasion, pairing an ivory coat from Alexander McQueen and a matching hat by Jane Taylor. 

To stick with the colour theme, the Collingwood pearl earrings previously owned by Diana added an elegant finishing touch.

A touch of the past for a new era

Catherine, Princess of Wales, ushered in the reign of her father-in-law King Charles III with a subtle tribute to her late mother-in-law. 

Kate's look for the historic event was majestic, including a white Alexander McQueen dress and Royal Robes. Kate also opted for a headpiece designed by Jess Collett for Alexander McQueen instead of a more traditional royal crown. 

However, a real focal point of her look was the diamond and pearl earrings. 

The diamond and South Sea pearl earrings were originally made in 1950 at the request of King George VI for his daughter, Queen Elizabeth II. 

It's believed they were given to Diana as a wedding present from her mother-in-law and eventually passed along to Prince William and Kate upon their marriage in 2011. 

Pearls for Prince Philip's memorial service

During the 2022 Memorial Service for Prince Philip, Kate Middleton brought a classic look inspired by many of her favourite designers - plus a touching nod to tradition with Princess Diana's earrings. 

Wearing an Alessandra Rich black and white polka dot dress featuring a high neckline, puffed sleeves, a drop-waisted pleated skirt and retro buttons on the neckline, Kate's look was timeless. 

She finished the outfit with the Collingwood earrings, a gift from the Collingwood jewellers upon Charles' marriage to Diana.

A high-low look with daytime sapphire

Princess Kate knows how to bring the glamour, even when she's putting work and duties first. 

In 2023, Kate spoke at the symposium for her Shaping Us foundation, which focuses on early years development. 

Merging the old with the new, Kate nailed the very on-trend dopamine dressing, opting for a purple pantsuit. But highlighting something more classic, Kate added Diana's sapphire and diamond double-drop earrings. 

Traditional mourning jewellery for Prince Philip's funeral

For Prince Philip's funeral in 2021, Kate Middleton wore a chic black Catherine Walker coat dress - a brand she's known to favour, and the designer was close friends with Diana, the previous Princess of Wales. 

In addition to the designer dress, Kate wore the four-strand pearl necklace often worn by Diana. Diana would usually wear the piece for more fun occasions, adding a sapphire gemstone to the diamond clasp. 

Considering the occasion, Kate kept to a very simple, black-and-white palette. 

It was a fitting choice of Catherine's to wear a piece so closely associated with Diana. The late Diana and Philip had something of a complex relationship, but insiders suggested the pair had a natural understanding of one another. 

"When (Diana) found the restrictions of royal life difficult, it was Philip who helped her," writes royal author Ingrid Seward in her book Prince Philip Revealed. "Once she was married, she never sat next to her husband; she was always sat next to Philip at the endless black-tie dinners, and he took care of her."

*The* sapphire engagement ring

Arguably the most famous piece of jewellery Kate Middleton inherited from Princess Diana - and perhaps one of the most famous pieces of jewellery across the history of the Royal Family - is the sapphire engagement ring. 

The ring was created by Garrard and chosen for then-Prince Charles's proposal to Diana in 1981. 

Unusual for royals, the ring was a catalogue item and not bespoke. The original design was inspired by Queen Victoria's sapphire brooch from 1840, which she wore as her 'something blue' on her wedding day.

Diana reportedly picked the 12-carat oval Ceylon ring - which also includes 14 solitaire diamonds - as it matched her blue eyes. 

In 2010, Prince William presented the ring to Kate Middleton when he proposed on a trip to Africa. 

Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan wowed on the red carpet last night as the duo wore matching all-black ensembles.

Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan looked fantastic last night as the pair attended the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards and posed up a storm together. The actors looked delighted to see one another as they crossed paths on the red carpet and took the opportunity to hug and pose together with the enormous award won by Carey.

Carey's pearl necklace also matched her pearl stud earrings and contrasted with her blue metallic bodice that was covered with a bolero jacket.

The duo looked delighted to see each other and previously worked together on the 2015 film Suffragette. In fact, Meryl was in attendance at this event to present Carey with the International Star Award, for her performance in Maestro. 

Speaking about her former co-star, per The Hollywood Reporter, Meryl said, "If you were trying to identify one essential quality that Carey brings to the wide and wildly varied characters she’s played, it really is located in what she withholds from us… It’s like the smaller tremors that we get here in California. Not really measurable, nothing shifts, but you’re aware that the earth is roiling below and that when that cracks open, she can bring your house down."
