Much like how bright pinks, corals and blues are synonymous with summer styling, a rich, burnt orange is something of an autumn signature, and now Gillian Anderson is making a case for it not just in your wardrobe, but on your toes too.

While there are, of course, plenty of chic, timeless pedicure colours to choose from, there's always something so fun about matching your nails (both finger and toe) to the season's trending colour palette. Especially now that every brand and retailer is debuting their new autumn collections. Red is always a classic, as are chocolate brown nails, but for something really warm and toasty, it's got to be a burnt orange.

In fact, we've seen firsthand how well this rich shade can complement and elevate the new season's styles, with Gillian Anderson having worn it while modelling M&S' September line.

As the brand's 'Chief Compliments Officer,' the actress took to Instagram to share the arrival of the autumn collection, with a carousel of snaps showing her wearing the new pieces, all of which she wrote have her 'seal of approval.'

The outfits included a chic black and orange checkered skirt, a long black dress and a plum-coloured satin shirt and tailored trouser combo, all styled with a pair of strappy heels and, you guessed it, a dark orange pedicure.

Burnt orange nails are always an obvious choice for us when the seasons shift, thanks to the colour's warmth and versatility, but it's often a shade we forget all about when it comes to our toes. But as Anderson proves, it's just as wearable and can really complement and elevate both transitional outfits and full-blown autumn ones too - more so if you opt for a matching orange mani-pedi.

It feels especially apt for your September nails, though, as sporadic sun is still on the cards, meaning you might need to debut your toes at a moment's notice, and a warm, smoky orange definitely works for that, whilst also toasting the approaching autumn season.

In these early September days, it's easy to feel quite stuck in that no-longer-summer, not-yet-autumn limbo, especially with your clothing and nails. Thankfully, though, Sandra Bullock has offered a solution to the latter conundrum with a very classic, but witchy-looking pedicure.

While you might think sandal season is at an end, sun in September can't be ruled out just yet; thus, having a chic, timeless pedicure colour at the ready is a very good idea. And even if summer is truly over, it doesn't mean your toe maintenance should be; foot care is a year-round concern. The real question is, what shade do you pick for such an in-between time? Being a 'ber' month, you can definitely get away with a cosier, autumnal hue. In fact, we'd make a case for following Sandra Bullock's lead, with a certain moody shade that is both timeless and right on-theme with the approaching spooky season.

Stepping out for the London premiere of Practical Magic 2 (the highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 witchy romance), the star paired a leopard print gown with a stylish pair of strappy heels and a matching black pedicure. The combination feels so sophisticated, whilst also being perfectly fitting for right now.

As we can see, Bullock opted for a matching mani/pedi, which is always ideal for creating a sense of cohesion and achieving a chic sort of 'put-togetherness.' The dark, glossy nail colour itself goes with everything - be it flip-flops on your late summer holiday or open-toed heels - much like a staple black T-shirt or little black dress would with the rest of your wardrobe. It's timeless but also simultaneously modern and cool, the sort of shade that instantly elevates the look of your feet and outfit, no matter the season.

As mentioned, though, Bullock wore the look to the premiere of Practical Magic 2, which perfectly suits the theme of the movie but also the month we're currently in - making it a great source of inspiration for your own September nails.

Black polish also affords a very pristine and expensive finish, as it hides any imperfections and can be elevated even further with a clear, glassy top coat. Like with a dark red or burgundy, it's a colour that you can achieve a very professional, almost gel-like finish with at home.

It's also fairly low-effort, as just two coats will deliver a streak-free, even wash of colour. It also looks just as good on your nails as it does on your toes, a point Sandra Bullock herself reaffirmed on the red carpet. We recommend layering it under a clear top coat, though, to ward off scratches and lifting and enhance the depth of the moody hue with a luxe-looking shine.

If powdery florals and sweet scents don't do it for you, Sarah Jessica Parker's vintage-y 'suede' perfume definitely warrants a spritz - especially as autumn approaches.

When it comes to investing in a new long-lasting perfume, discovering which olfactory families you gravitate towards and, perhaps more importantly, the ones you don't, is key to finding a true forever-favourite. In Sarah Jessica Parker's case, her scent match did not lie in the popular floral fragrances on the market, nor the gourmands, but amongst the softer, spicier genre. And more specifically still, in a certain French maison's collection.

In an interview with British Vogue, the actress shared that her signature is actually one of the best Diptyque perfumes. A blend inspired by sand dunes and infused with smooth, leathery notes that really linger. A point this beauty writer can also attest to, as it's part of my scent collection too.

In the Vogue Asks column of the September 2026 issue, Parker was quizzed about her signature scent, which she revealed to be Diptyque's Eau Rihla. She said, "It smells like really good suede that's soft and thin - like a coin purse from 1971 with a snap closure."

She added that it's not a conventionally 'feminine' scent, noting that it's not a floral fragrance or a sweet vanilla-y blend, which is what she prefers in her fragrances. Instead, it opens with a spicy trail of pink peppercorn and saffron, before softening into notes of iris, leather and warming cedarwood.

Parker has actually spoken about preferring more woodier, unisex perfumes before. She told Who What Wear in 2023 that she is also a fan of Guerlain Vétiver: "It's a men's fragrance that has now been around for, what, 15-plus years?"

As for her Diptyque go-to, its name 'Rihla' means journey in Arabic, with the blend having been inspired by travels through deserts and explorations of ancient cities. And as someone who actually owns this very scent, I would recommend it to those who gravitate towards oud, musk and spicy perfumes. I can definitely see what Parker means by it smelling like suede; there's a smooth, textural quality to it, as well as this alluring closeness and warmth.

I find it to be a very familiar sort of fragrance - the smell reminds me of vintage leather jackets, wooden furniture and spiced, smoking candles. It therefore makes for such a chic autumn perfume, or wintery blend, though, like the Sex And The City star, you can wear it year-round too - such is its timeless appeal.

As both a loyal fan of many of the best Diptyque perfumes (specifically Fleur de Peau and my all-time favourite, Orphéon) and a lover of baths, to say I was excited for this collection is a serious understatement. It combines all my favourite things: illustration and artistry, history, moisturising ingredients and a bouquet of luxe scents.

There's a buy for everyone, whether you prefer a more indulgent evening ritual, with thick, balmy lotions and calming candles, or a refreshing morning one that hinges on citrusy body washes and lightweight body milks.

As you can see above, I've tried the new Rich Soothing Body Balm, Nurturing Cleansing Gel, and the Soothing Evening Ritual Discovery set (which features minis of the cleansing gel, body milk, oil-in-oil and Le Soir candle), and can vouch for their indulgent and deeply nourishing powers.

Even a quick shower with the bergamot, neroli and green mandarin cleansing gel feels like a treat, as does just lighting the Le Matin candle, which I've taken to doing on a Saturday morning. Each element, while designed to be used together for the ultimate self-care morning or evening ritual, can also be turned into its own little moment - which is something I really love about this collection. Diptyque is a luxury brand, with much of the lineup costing £50 and over, but whether you invest in just one thing or all of it, it can enrich your getting ready or un-ready experience.

As for my favourite buy, it's a tie between the gel and body balm. As someone with quite dry skin, a good-quality cream is an essential for me, and already, this balm is a favourite. Of course, I'm trying to use it sparingly, but its barley and rose scent makes it very hard to resist. The cleansing gel too, as mentioned, boasts such a lovely scent and leaves my skin so soft post-rinse.

While we rarely get a peek into the bathrooms of A-listers, the odds are never zero – and we've just spotted Cat Deeley's affordable shampoo that rescued her strands after an at-home hair dye mishap.

As a beauty team, you can often find us with our detective hat on, scanning the background of celebrities' Instagram posts to uncover the products that their routines actually make home to – whether that be one of the best perfumes for women or the best face moisturiser.

Fortunately, Cat Deeley just gave us an insight into a recent bathroom hair dye experience, which also gave us the chance to spy one of the best drugstore shampoos perched on the side of the sink...

In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, 25th August, Cat Deeley documented a 'day on set' – notably, having her hair washed in the shower by her hairstylist, Chad Maxwell. With her head tipped upside down, Deeley can be heard saying: "It's in my eyes," as her makeup artist, Amanda Grossman, asks: "What should I do? It's all over everything." Maxwell then questions: "Why are you covered in hair colour?"

While the relatable video first made us chuckle, we then put our sleuthing skills to good use as we spotted a few bottles of shampoo lurking in the background. What we believe to be the Childs Farm Blackberry & Apple Hair and Body Wash earned a spot in Deeley's shower; however, we also peeped a very quick glimpse of a green tube perched on the side of her sink.

After some research (and a Google search or two), we uncovered the green tube in question to be Attitude's Nourishing Hair Shampoo. It boasts a vegan formula, made from 97% natural-origin ingredients with no SLES. It is also super gentle on the strands, making it a great choice when washing out hair dye without causing any severe damage – just like Cat.

As beauty journalists, we're constantly in pursuit of celebrity-loved and approved formulas. Whether it's the best long-lasting lipstick they swear by or the best foundation they apply. Not the ones they are paid to endorse, of course, but the ones they actually use in their everyday routines. Sometimes they list them off in interviews, but more often than not, we're catching glimpses of their favourites in social posts, requiring us to do a lot of tactical pausing and zooming. Exhibit A: Sandra Bullock's Instagram Reel on August 22nd, where she shared the contents of her handbag.

Appearing on the table as Bullock emptied the contents of her bag, we spotted a pink lip gloss, which we strongly suspect to be Sephora's Outrageous Plump Effect Gloss in the shade Pink Pout. The packaging does seem to line up, and there's something about it being in that iconic kitchen and movie set in general that just makes us want it all the more.

The lippie in question is available in an array of tints and delivers both a high-shine finish and plumping effect. Alas, there's no real magic here, just a shimmery, magnifying formula that gives the appearance of fuller and very juicy-looking lips - but we'll take it, especially for under the £14 mark.

The scent marries fresh hints of bergamot and herbaceous tea accords with soft florals like osmanthus, jasmine and violet, while fig, cedarwood and musk lend the blend a delicate creaminess.

The opening notes sound so airy and summery, while the more lingering base notes pull this scent into cosy, autumnal territory. A lovely in-between-y blend for right now and the months to come.

As of August 19th, you can now get your hands on this new, limited-edition and very vibrant iteration, which builds on the original's ambery-vanilla base with notes of lychee, zingy grapefruit and musky rose. It's Mademoiselle but with a bold, juicy edge that melts down into something very modern and smooth - a chic option for both fruity perfume fans and amber scent lovers alike.

"Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu is an affirmation of the self," says Olivier Polge, CHANEL In-House Perfumer Creator. "This fragrance offers a deeply personal experience that exists only when it is worn. I like to imagine that it accompanies the woman who wears it. A beauty writer's verdict on Mademoiselle Crush Absolu

I've always had an appreciation for the original Coco Mademoiselle. In fact, we go way back, as I actually wore it in my late teens and early twenties, having saved for months to be able to buy the 30ml bottle. To me, it was the height of fashion and maturity, and naturally became my prized possession. I absolutely loved the bottle, the pink tint of the liquid and its warm, flowery scent. Alas, though, as is often the way with first fragrances, I moved on to others, and now its notes are so dated to that specific time in my life. While arguably quite a mature-smelling fragrance, Mademoiselle now smells young to me - of a past self that doesn't feel like 'me' anymore.

I therefore wasn't expecting to love this new iteration, but as it turns out, both its story and scent really resonate. It's like an evolution and homecoming in one for me. There's nostalgia and a nod to that girl who saved for the original, mingled with a new, vibrant, confident and sophisticated edge that I aspire to carry with me now.

Crush Absolu features those familiar hints of jasmine, patchouli, vetiver and vanilla, but brings juicy lychee, grapefruit, and delicate rose to the forefront. It's brighter than its predecessor but still warm, musky and smooth. Like many of Chanel's blends, it really lingers and clings to the skin, and a little spritz goes a long way. It's the perfect sort of scent to see out summer with and bring into Autumn, thus making the timing of this launch feel quite perfect.

I really recommend it to those who love the original but perhaps haven't been wearing it as much, and even to those who actually don't like it at all, as this fruity take feels so modern and on-theme with this year's fragrance trends, while still maintaining Chanel's timeless, French-chic personality.

The pairing of a trimmed nail length and dark colour is also something of a failsafe when pursuing a very chic look. They offset each other so well, with the style making the shade feel more versatile and wearable. There's also something so neat about them, and the same goes if you were to opt for dark red or burgundy nails.

Unlike a matte lipstick that you might not reach for every day, a lip balm is one of those easy, swipe-on-and-go products that always proves useful. More so when it boasts a glassy shine and rosy tint like Holly Willoughby's.

While, of course, the best long-lasting lipsticks always have their place, sometimes all you really need is a multi-tasking lip balm to achieve a chic look (and one that also fends off chapped skin), as Willoughby proves. Taking to Instagram to discuss her new YouTube show, Holly Willoughby Together, whilst also getting ready to go out to lunch with friends, the presenter gave us a sneak peek of her go-to lippie. As she chatted to the camera, she could be seen opening a pot of tinted balm and applying it to her lips with a finger, and fans were quick to theorise about what it was in the comments.

One wrote, "Do I spy my fave Tropic Lip Fudge?" While another replied to someone else's enquiry about it, saying: "It really looks like Tropic Skincare Lip Fudge in Rosewood?"

After further investigation and some tactical video pausing, we agree that it does indeed look to be Tropic's Lip Conditioner, specifically in the shade Rosewood - a sheer rosy colour. The white lid and frosted glass look of the container itself definitely seem to match, too.

The formula is moisture-locking and reparative. It features 26 skin-conditioning plant extracts, plumping omegas and a 'cocktail' of botanical extracts that lend your lips that glassy shine. As we can see, Willoughby just added a dab to her bottom lip and was left with a lovely tint and glossy finish - so clearly, a little goes a long way. “The manicure should never compete; it should complete,” wrote her longtime nail artist, Tom Bachik, on Instagram, unveiling what he dubbed her 'vintage rose' nails. Featuring delicate hand-painted roses framed by gold foil accents, the regal manicure is a far cry from this season's neutral nail designs. No two nails are the same; each features its own floral arrangement, making every nail feel like a miniature work of art.

The biggest surprise? Rather than painting the intricate design directly onto Lopez's nails, Bachik created a bespoke set of press-ons. While his exact creation may be one of a kind, today's press-on nails make intricate, statement manicures far more accessible than ever.

As well as being in Bown's makeup kit, we've seen Deeley use a mini version of this multipurpose stick in her own time. In an Instagram reel from February, Deeley shared her pre-on-set morning routine and used it on her cheeks. While it's unclear which exact shade she applied, it looked quite pink to us - meaning it's likely 'Petal' or 'Nectar', which deliver a rosy radiance. In a reel posted to Instagram on Sunday, 9th August, Martha Stewart made waves when celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton debuted her new hair transformation – and it's a major change to her signature golden blonde bob.

The presenter revealed a gorgeous soft rosy pink hue that Appleton dubbed 'rose gold'. This transformation is a masterclass of a subtle take on a vibrant colour that adds dimension and definition to the locks.

The summer-ready colour was accompanied by a flattering chin-grazing cut and voluminous, bouncy curls that gave Stewart's tresses a fuller-looking appearance.

Though it's still sunny and warm, August is one of those months that can be a little tricky, style and manicure-wise. It feels a little late to invest in more summery clothes, and if your next manicure isn't until mid-month, your choice of colour and design will likely be seeing you into September, too. That's not to say you can't still rock one of the more juicy, sun-soaked 2026 nail trends, but if you're keen to start toning things down a little, actress Anne Hathaway has just debuted a lovely option that works for both months.

Dubbed 'Coconut Jelly Gloss' nails by celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik, Hathaway's sheer, creamy nails are the perfect solution to this summer-to-autumn shift. Anything coconut-related feels summery to us, but the actual shade is timeless and incredibly versatile. Better yet, it was created using an essie nail polish - making it A) easy to recreate and B) so inexpensive.

Hathaway debuted her new, creamy manicure at the premiere of her latest project, The End of Oak Street, on August 9th, 2026, before Bachik then took to Instagram to share the details of the look, from its seriously chic name to the exact polish behind it.

This 'Coconut Jelly Gloss mani' is exactly as it sounds: sheer, glossy and incredibly fresh - like a splash of coconut milk and the shiny texture of jelly. Bachik revealed that he used essie's Arctic Jelly shade to create it, and while you can shop the shade in the US, it doesn't appear to be available in the UK. Thankfully, though, essie has several close alternatives, which we've shared above. We also recommend investing in a top coat, like essie's Gel Couture top coat, to achieve that glossy gleam.

As for the other standout details of the look, we love that the sheer nail polish was paired with a very neat, short and squoval shape. Short nails are very popular right now and always feel apt for a 'reset.'

If you're planning to recreate Hathaway's look at home, apply two to three coats (depending on your opacity preference) of your sheer, creamy polish followed by a glossy top coat to help ward off chips and peeling. This coconutt-y hue will also look so chic on your toes too - a coordinating mani-pedi, especially in this subtle sort of shade, is always a great and reliable choice, no matter the season.

If you’ve ever watched Emma Willis on screen, you’ve probably noticed she has excellent skin. At 50, the new Strictly Come Dancing host’s clear and radiant complexion has triggered an Emma Willis skincare routine obsession amongst team w&h - so it’s no surprise to see her link up with a big-name beauty brand.

More of a surprise (a pleasant one) is the news that M&S is relaunching its cult Formula skincare. If, like us, you think Hannah Waddingham looks out of this world any time she’s on our TV screens, you’re in luck. (Can you tell we’ve been re-watching Ted Lasso and loving it?) Our eagle-eyed beauty team has spotted one particular makeup product behind her mega-healthy glow.

Stepping out for the recent Ted Lasso season 4 premiere, the star looked radiant as ever, sporting a chic tousled updo and bronzed, glowing skin. Fortunately enough, her makeup artist Stephen Sollitto shared some behind-the-scenes snaps of her skin and makeup for the red carpet – including a mysterious tube of glistening fluid that we've used our expertise to identify.

After applying a foundation by Koh Gen Do, Hannah’s glow was levelled up with the help of... (drum roll) Rare Beauty’s Positive Light Luminizer, adding both warmth and sheen to her skin.

When faced with a busy, sunny and sometimes sticky-hot season, adding products to your routine that are low-effort and multi-tasking is a must, and for Cat Deeley, this tinted lip serum has been a summertime staple.

Indeed, the beauty of a very subtle and natural-looking pedicure is that not only will it go with everything, from a summery dress to ripped blue jeans - as Minogue proves - but it's also a very forgiving and low-maintenance option.

Regrowth, for instance, will not look as obvious with a clear or tinted shade as it would with a burgundy pedicure, and the same goes for any chips or polish peeling. Plus, with understated nails becoming increasingly popular, just zhushing up your natural toes with a nail buffer or a quick clear coat will afford you a very trendy look - what's not to love?

Lines and wrinkles are all part of the privilege that is getting older. And while many of us enjoy twinkly crinkles around the eyes and well-earned smile lines from years of laughter, there's arguably a bit less to love about vertical lip lines.

If you've noticed your lips losing definition, or creasing due to natural collagen loss and repeated movements (particularly if you are a smoker, or routinely drink through straws), there are things you can do - and they don't have to be as invasive as semi-permanent lip blush treatments, or injectable filler.

We've just learned a genius trick using an £18 lip stain that, according to the beauty fan who tipped us off, "helps to blur the appearance of the fine lines I've developed as I've got older, while making my lips look amazing." We're sold already.

If you're unfamiliar with all-day lip stains, these products are thick gels that you paint onto the lips, leave to set, then peel away to reveal the true colour of the stain - which then sticks around all day long, no matter what you eat, drink or do.

As our team's test of Sacheau Lip Liner Stain revealed, these products have incredible staying power as an all-day lip colour, but we've never heard of them being used in this way before.

Hayley, 52, shared with us that by overlining her lips ever so slightly with Wonderskin Wonderblading All Day Lip Stain, the long-lasting tint left behind obscured any lines around her mouth.

“This lip stain in the shade Bella keeps the colour on all day and helps to blur the appearance of the fine lines I've developed as I've got older, while making my lips look amazing with its gorgeous colour”, she explains. And we think the pictures really speak for themselves.

While overlining the lips with a lip liner to create definition and soften lines is a classic makeup artist technique, doing so with an all-day lip stain ensures that the blurring effect truly lasts the day - and looks so natural and diffused.

You will need a steady hand to apply the liner neatly just over the lips' natural perimeter, as once this stain sets, it really, truly sets on. If you prefer, you could use a very fine liner brush for extra precision.

It's also worth noting that, compared with normal lipsticks and glosses, these types of stains have about 100 times the staying power (which truly is a game-changer) but do sacrifice some moisture in the process. It's definitely worth having a lip balm in your bag to keep hydration and comfort levels topped up.

There's also no denying that neatly applying this stain and overlining your lips takes a little bit more skill and time than a slick of long lasting lipstick. But, you will get that time back tenfold in flattering, blurring properties and never having to reapply. It feels like a fair deal to us!

Congratulations are indeed in order for Melanie Chisholm and her partner, Chris Dingwall, who tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on July 18th in Cumbria, England. There’s a particular kind of glow that comes from feeling good in your own skin - not filtered, not “done”, just genuinely comfortable going bare-faced. It’s the sort of result most of us invest years into our skincare routines for - which is why it’s always worth paying attention when someone who’s spent decades in the public eye, camera-ready under studio lighting, says they’ve finally found something that actually works.

Debbie McGee has never been one for invasive tweakments - Botox and fillers, she says, always scared her. But at 67, the former Strictly finalist has finally found a treatment she’s happy to shout about, and the results have been enough to send her makeup bag into early retirement.

Hairstyling can be tricky in the summer months, what with frizz-inducing humidity and the sort of temperatures that make having any strands clinging to your face intolerable. Instead of a simple ponytail or bun, Kate's hair was secured into what appears to be a double twist, and while it might look complex, it's actually quite easy to replicate once you know how.

Upon first glance, Kate's hair on July 11th does indeed look quite intricate, but all you'll need to recreate the 'do is one of the best curling irons (to replicate her loose waves), a styling cream or shine-boosting serum and a couple of hair ties.

From the looks of it, a front section has been taken from either side of her head (starting from above her ears) and has been pulled back and secured into a mini ponytail before being flipped in on itself - to create that twisted effect. Unlike traditional red carpet hairstyles, Miller's look takes an 'undone' approach, rather than being perfectly preened and locked in place. Instead, the look embraces flyaways and loose strands, yet it remains totally chic.

The elevated yet fuss-free style says 'I just quickly chucked my hair into a bun to get it out of my face', which only adds to its relatability – especially in this heat.

The great thing about this hairstyle is that it lends itself to a number of occasions, whether that be sweeping your hair up to run errands, a special dressy event, or a star-studded red carpet in Sienna Miller's case.

If your hair is shorter than Sienna's, worry not, as the low height of the ballerina bun allows you to achieve the look on shorter strands too. Simply pull your locks back into a ponytail at your desired height, before twisting said ponytail and wrapping it around the hair tie and securing it with grips. If shorter bits fall out, simply pin those up individually, then use a pin-tail comb, or your fingers, to pull out random strands of hair for the effortless effect.

Sheer, powdery pink nails are the new nude this summer, according to Reese Witherspoon, who just revisited one of her most iconic roles and informed our next manicure in the process.

Stepping out for Prime Video's celebration of the new series Elle, which is a prequel spin-off to the film Legally Blonde, Reese Witherspoon dressed in all-pink (a signature of Elle Woods). And while the outfit brought all the 2000s nostalgia, her manicure actually felt very in line with 2026's nail trends. Pastel pink and sheer nail polishes, as well as very minimalistic, hyper-natural manicures, have been increasingly popular this year, and Witherspoon's own nails sit somewhere in between. They are simultaneously timeless and trendy, though we'd expect nothing less for an Elle Woods-inspired look.

As we can see, Witherspoon paired a neat and short, square nail shape with a soft, powdery pink polish. It's clean, expensive-looking, and so versatile; it's the sort of manicure that will go with every outfit, from linen dresses to jeans and a t-shirt, as well as any occaision. The actress proves as much with her own hot pink satin dress - her nails subtly complement without clashing, just as they would with any other outfit.

After trying more sunscreens than I can count in my time as a beauty editor, I've learned that finding one that actually feels and looks good on the skin - not just tolerable - is rarer than you'd think.

Whether it's the best facial sunscreen or those for body, finding one that you genuinely love can be tricky. Usually, you buy something that promises to be lightweight and non-greasy, spend two weeks on holiday feeling like you've smeared wallpaper paste on your arms, and swear you'll find something better next year.
