Brian Turner is one of Britain’s best-known chefs, having trained at Simpson’s in the Strand, The Savoy and Claridge’s. As well as opening his own restaurants and achieving a Michelin star, he is the President of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and a much-loved TV personality. He’s appeared regularly on Ready Steady Cook, This Morning, Saturday Kitchen and his own shows, A Taste of Britain and My Life on a Plate, on the BBC. Turner has also been awarded a CBE for his services to tourism and training in the catering industry.

On arrival the group will be met and transferred to The Table Bay Hotel, where you will stay for the next four nights. One of the Leading Hotels of the World, Table Bay is set on the historic V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. After lunch, take a cable car trip, weather permitting, 1,089m to the top of iconic Table Mountain.
Thursday 3 November
After breakfast, travel down the Cape Peninsula for the day. It offers a mix of dramatic coastal drives, deserted beaches and quaint seaside villages before it ends at the Cape of Good Hope. The journey will include a boat trip in Hout Bay to Seal Island, a drive along the photogenic Chapman’s Peak Drive, a visit to view the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, a trip on the Flying Dutchman Funicular, and the chance to explore historic Simon’s Town.
Friday 4 November
The group will be joined for the next two days in Cape Town by Brian Turner, who will begin his part of the tour with a walking tour of Cape Town’s historic Bo-Kaap, followed by a Cape Malay cookery demonstration. Led by renowned local Cape Malay chef and TV personality Zainie Misbach, the group will be offered a hands-on, practical lesson in how to cook like a real Cape Malay “Auntie” before enjoying a traditional lunch. An afternoon visit is made to the famed Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Brian Turner will host an informal Q&A session this evening over a gala three-course dinner at Catharina’s Restaurant, a fine-dining restaurant on the historic Steenberg wine estate.
Saturday 5 November
This morning, the group will enjoy a visit, in the company of Brian Turner, to The Neighbourgoods Market, housed in an old sky-lit brick warehouse and courtyard at The Old Biscuit Mill. After lunch, there’s a city tour of Cape Town, taking in sights such as the Castle of Good Hope, Company Gardens and St George’s Cathedral. The day is completed with a real treat – afternoon tea at a Cape Town institution, the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel.
Sunday 6 November
This morning you’ll leave Cape Town to head into the famed wine region and the village of Franschhoek. You’ll stay at the superb Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa for three nights. With glorious views of mountains and vineyards, guests can make use of the hotel’s pool, spa and tennis courts. Your first visit will be to one of the Cape’s most venerable wine estates, Boschendal. A guided tour through the vineyards will be followed by a wine tasting and picnic lunch. The afternoon will be spent at L’Ormarins estate, home of Anthonij Rupert Wines. After a tour and wine tasting, the group will enjoy a guided tour of the Franschhoek Motor Museum.
Monday 7 November
The focus today will be on the historic town of Stellenbosch. First stop will be the Hidden Valley Wines Estate, born out of decades of patience and determination by owner Dave Hidden, which sits on a hilltop and has stunning views. A tour of the cellar will be followed by tastings of the estate’s olive oils and renowned wines, including Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc, with the opportunity to sample the unique Shipwreck Shiraz, which was purposely sunk at sea. Lunch will be served at the estate restaurant, Overture, one of the best dining experiences in South Africa. The afternoon will be spent exploring historic Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s oldest university towns. Highlights include the Dutch Reform Church, town hall and museum, plus galleries and shops.
Tuesday 8 November
Enjoy a day at the Welbedacht Wine Estate in Wellington, which is owned and run by the Burger family. The group will arrive in the late morning for an exclusive tasting of the estate’s finest wines. Then a traditional braai (barbecue), will be served, so guests can enjoy a variety of local meats and delicacies as well as some of the wines.
Wednesday 9 November
This morning visits will be made to the Huguenot Memorial Museum and Huguenot Monument, and there will be time to explore the shops and boutiques of this picturesque settlement. Depart for Cape Town airport in time to check in on the direct overnight British Airways flight to London.
