For an easy dessert recipe that’s super quick to throw together and tastes great give this peach and strawberry plate trifle a go. As the title suggests, all the ingredients are put together on a plate so there is no faff and even less washing up!

Whether you’re just in need of a sweet treat in the evening or you’ve got unexpected guests over, this dessert recipe is a great last minute option, and you’ve probably got some of the ingredients lurking in your cupboard anyway too.

The finished result looks a little deconstructed, but it’s just as good as the real thing and takes half the time – plus it’s a great way to use up any peaches or strawberries you’ve got in the fridge.

This recipe serves six, so it’s really easy to whip up for the whole family, but it’s also easily adapted if you’ve got less mouths to feed.

With sherry, caster sugar and plenty of double cream, this indulgent trifle is perfect for a quick take on the classic British dessert. You’ll be making it all the time!

PEACH AND STRAWBERRY PLATE TRIFLE

Method

  1. In a large bowl mix the sherry, sugar and vanilla together. Add the cream and whisk until thick.

  2. Place a slice of Madeira cake on each plate and top with spoonfuls of the syllabub, peach slices and strawberries. Sprinkle over the crushed amaretti biscuits to serve.

  • 100ml (3fl oz) sherry
  • 85g (3½oz)caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 300ml (½pt) double cream
  • 1 Madeira cake, thickly sliced
  • 3 peaches, sliced
  • 200g (7oz) strawberries, hulled & sliced
  • Amaretti biscuits, crushed to serve
