It’s the biggest shopping event of the year, when bargain hunters can grab some amazing discounts from online and high street retailers. Last year, the UK broke the record, spending a staggering £1.1 billion on Black Friday – and this year is expected to be bigger than ever.
Not sure what Black Friday is or where to get the best deals? Fear not, we’ve answered all your questions here on Woman & Home…
What is Black Friday?
Originally an American tradition beginning on the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday has now become the biggest shopping day of the year in the UK.
What does Black Friday mean?
There’s no confirmed reason why it is called Black Friday, but it’s most
likely because it is when many shops see their biggest profit, moving from the red into the black.
When is Black Friday?
This year, Black Friday falls on Friday 25th November.
What time will it start?
Most sales begin at midnight or 8am. However, this year many retailers including Amazon are starting discounts and deals earlier than usual. New research has shown that some discounts are even cheaper on the days leading up to Black Friday, so be aware of the retailers promoting these deals.
Things To Be Aware Of
It’s important to note the return period of your purchase, as many expire on Boxing Day or before. Ifyou’re buying presents for Christmas, make sure you read the small print.
Also be aware of fake websites. Black Friday often sees a rise in websites trying to scam customers with “too good to be true” deals. If you don’t recognise the website, it’s best to steer clear and stick to well-known retailers online.
How to avoid Black Friday crowds
Shopping online saves you the hassle of finding the best deals on the high street – head back here beforehand to see which stores will have the best deals, then open your browser windows ready to shop.
