Kate Middleton's stylish face masks, now a staple in the royal icon's wardrobe, have a surprisingly special story behind them.

  • Kate Middleton's face masks have quickly become her most famous accessory over the past year and a half, with the Duchess of Cambridge regularly stepping out in an array of gorgeous cotton face coverings.
  • Kate has mainly worn face masks from Amaia, an independent children's boutique in South West London.
  • In other royal news, the Queen just made a special social media move with a very rare personal touch

It’s no secret that Kate Middleton’s face masks have been a hot topic since the onset of the pandemic, as royal fans have clamored to emulate her gorgeous COVID-friendly style—without breaking the bank.

The Duchess of Cambridge has effortlessly coordinated her face coverings with her outfits during public engagements over the past year and a half, choosing similar colors and fabrics to compliment her stellar ensembles. She’s also known to go for eco options, donning pretty reusable models over disposable masks on most outings.

And as with many of Kate Middleton’s dresses and accessories, her masks are made all the more special by their sweet back story. The royal icon has mostly worn face coverings by Amaia, a children’s boutique just a 10-minute drive from her home of Kensington Palace. As well as being located conveniently nearby for quick shopping sprees, the Chelsea store also encompasses many of the values Kate personally shares.

Founded by Amaia Arrieta, a Spanish mother with a passion for handcraft pieces, the adorable brand carries a wide line of garments for infants—as well as an impressive collection of child and adult masks. With an emphasis on supporting individual designers and seamstresses, Amaia hopes to offer an alternative to flimsy fast fashion for London’s eco-conscious consumers. Her prices are surprisingly reasonable too. The Duchess of Cambridge’s go-to face mask, a handmade pink Liberty model, is only £15—a steal when you think about the amount of time and effort behind it.

Kate has even bought a few pieces for her little ones at the store. She’s reportedly a big fan of Amaia’s children’s accessories, picking up at numerous pairs of ribbed socks in a variety of colors for Prince George over the years.

According to Amaia, she even dropped by the boutique in 2015 when she was pregnant with Charlotte to stock up wardrobe staples for her older brother. "Three weeks before the Princess was born, she came in and bought three cardigans, three shirts, two pairs of shorts, and long socks," said Amaia.

Now that’s what we call brand loyalty.
