Yesterday, Amazon advised Kindle users to check that their software is up to date, or else the devices will lose connectivity after Tuesday
The following models will be affected:
Kindle 1st Generation (2007)
Kindle 2nd Generation (2009)
Kindle DX 2nd Generation (2009)
Kindle Keyboard 3rd Generation (2010)
Kindle 4th Generation (2011)
Kindle 5th Generation (2012)
Kindle Touch 4th Generation (2011)
Kindle Paperwhite 5th Generation (2012)
Without the update, you’ll be unable to sync read states, access the Kindle store or buy new books.
If your Kindle is connected to WiFi, it has likely already updated automatically. However, if the device is left unplugged, it may be disconnected to the internet.
How to get the update: plug the Kindle in and click on “Sync and check for items” in the menu.
If you miss the deadline, you can download the software update for your specific Kindle from Amazon’s help page. Connect the device to a computer and update it via USB cable.
