Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton has announced an unexpected career change.
After this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, Kevin Clifton will be hot footing it over to theatres across the UK to star in Rock of Ages, the musical.
The 35-year-old professional dancer will take to the stage to play Stacee Jaxx in the musical from 22 January – April 6 2019, performing to 80s hits including The Final Countdown, Here I go Again, and I Want To Know What Love Is.
Announcing his new role, Kevin uploaded a snap to his social media with the caption, “So excited to announce that I will be playing Stacee Jaxx in @rockofagesmusicaluk 2019!!!”
Kevin, who is currently partnered up with Stacey Dooley in this year’s BBC One dance contest, might have to put of the Strictly Come Dancing Live! Tour if he makes it through to Blackpool and the final stages of the show as the tour dates are expected to clash with the rock musical dates.
Kevin is hardly recognisable in the long brunette wig, bandana and mascara and the biker outfit is a far cry from his Strictly suits.
But Strictly fans couldn’t contain their excitement, one wrote, ‘’WHAAAAAAAT! This is so excited! One of my favourite dancers in one of the best Musicals! Yaaaaaay!’”
Another said, “Oh my god you look so hot (you are very attractive anyway but this caters for us strictly fans who are into metal and the men in bands haha)’ and a third added, “Wow burn the floor and rock of ages you’ve certainly got a busy year ahead. Coming to see you at Tunbridge Wells in May.”
Kevin split from his wife Karen Clifton earlier this year but the pair will not be able to avoid each other as Karen is also starring in Strictly, having been partnered up with Casualty actor Charles Venn, but the pair are said to be on good terms following the break.
Speaking about working with Stacey, Kevin said, “She is really lovely and she’s really easy to work with, lots of fun.”
In the meantime, Blue’s Antony Costa will take his place while Kevin competes in Strictly.
