Rachel From Countdown Quits Sky Show Due To Online Abuse

Countdown star and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Rachel Riley has reportedly been forced to quit one of her presenting jobs after being subjected to a torrent of foul ‘personal abuse’.

The 31-year-old took to Twitter to call out the “hideous” abuse she has received by viewers of Friday Night Football, a show that she presents on Sky Sports.

“I love football, always have, always will, banter is fun, abuse is not whoever/whatever/wherever #respect” tweeted the Oxford university graduate.

The gifted mathematician and TV star first drew attention to the abuse she was receiving online earlier this year. Following a comment she made on the show one evening about Tottenham Hotspur’s loss to West Ham being a “proper bottle job”, the star told The Daily Mirror that football fans made it clear they, “weren’t happy at all” and subjected her to an onslaught of insults and abuse online.

Soon after the incident in May, Riley shared her experience on social media, “Didn’t mean any offence to Spurs or their fans tonight just a surprise to slip v WHam with their form on paper. Personal abuse is hideous,” she wrote.

She has now reportedly quit the Sky Sports’ show after these events. Riley and Sky have yet to officially comment on the situation.
