In honour of Her Majesty’s forthcoming 90th birthday, the Royal Mint have struck a commemorative £5 coin designed by artist Christopher Hobbs.
The Royal Mint will be offering the coin as a free gift to people turning 90 on April 21st, the same day as the Queen.
Christopher Hobbs said: “My design for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday coin collection was inspired by the heraldic rose and the Queen’s love of flowers.
“The central ‘EIIR’ is surrounded by a classical wreath of celebration. I have tried to make the roses more natural than heraldic, each one different from the other.”
The Royal Mint also struck commemorative coins to mark the Queen’s 70th and 80th birthdays, as well as other significant dates in her reign.
Those of you wanting to get your hands on the coin but aren’t turning 90 can buy one from the Royal Mint website. Prices start from £13, with the most expensive Gold Proof 5 Ounce coin costing a staggering £7,500.
