What could be the ultimate indulgence that combines a love of fashion with a passion for travel? BA and Harrods have unveiled a unique new project which takes fashion to the skies.
The luxury department store has teamed up with British Airways to host a unique venture: a series of catwalk shows 30,000ft up. The concept was created to celebrate British Airways’ new A380 flight route and will see a series of runway shows take place, showcasing international designs by Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson and Victoria Beckham.
The first catwalk show took place last month mid-flight over Johannesburg where a special audience of 200 VIP guests were invited to watch the fashion show which celebrated the very best of British design.
From beautifully embellished floor-sweeping gowns by Jenny Packham to sleek, tailored Victoria Beckham separates, it was a chance for the guests to view a collection of different designers’ work up close and personal. Every stitch, seam and sequin was on display and the designs were just arm’s reach from the watching passengers.
Michael Ward, Harrods Managing Director said of the unique venture: ‘Harrods is delighted to have partnered with British Airways, bringing together two iconic British brands, to create a spectacular event. Celebrating the exceptional design of the A380, we were able to the present the talent and creativity of our most respected British fashion designers, in a unique experience at 30,000ft’.
With more runway shows in the pipeline and a raft of hugely successful British designers keen to be part of the action, the sky really is the limit for this fashion/flight fusion!
