Reese Witherspoon stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon recently, and immediately had fans thinking they’d stepped back in time.

Clad in a pink slip dress with the quirkiest, fluffiest heels, Reese - now 49 - looked practically unchanged from the first time she introduced us to Elle Woods, the beloved protagonist of the Legally Blonde franchise.

Reese’s nod to the pink-loving blonde legal eagle wasn’t a coincidence - she was there in her capacity as producer of the upcoming prequel series, Elle. And she revealed why now was the right time to bring back Elle in a new capacity, at a time when "young girls need a better role model".

Speaking about the prequel series - which will star a new actress playing a younger Elle Woods who’s still in high school - Reese shared, "I just thought, why not start and make her a character for young women nowadays?"

"I looked at what's going on with young girls, and I just think they need a better role model. So it was time to bring Elle Woods back."

Praising the enduring legacy of the character and the films, which first came out more than 25 years ago, Reese declared, "It's an iconic character. It's really a feminist character."

"She thinks it's about this guy and following him to college, but it's really a story of being an underdog and a fish out of water in a place where she doesn't feel welcome."

"I think everybody has that feeling at one point in their lives."

Just before Reese’s appearance on Jimmy Fallon, she reunited with several cast members of the original movie for a celebration in New York dubbed ‘Elle World’.

Reese, along with Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Ali Larter and Victor Garber attended a talk in celebration of the movie - and the upcoming prequel series.

At the event, Reese shared, "Playing this character for 25 years has been the privilege of my life, just because people come up to me and they tell me stories about how they go to law school because of her or they named their daughter Elle.

"She went through this experience of feeling like everybody was looking down on her or judged her, and I don’t know a person on earth who hasn’t felt like an underdog in some situation."

Newcomer Lexi Minetree will take over the role in the prequel series, which follows Elle in 1995 as she navigates high school in her Seattle hometown. The show starts streaming July 1 on Prime Video.

Legally Blonde’s prequel series, Elle, has released its first look to the world, and OG Elle Woods Reese Witherspoon is feeling "emotional" about the new era.

Reese, who originated the role of the plucky Elle who defies stereotypes to get into Harvard Law School, played the character in the original 2001 film and returned for the 2004 sequel.

Now, the next chapter is all about looking back, as a new actress plays Elle Woods in her high school years. Following the release of the trailer, Reese shared her thoughts in the Instagram comments, writing, "Okay…I’m emotional".

Reese wasn’t the only notable reply in the comments. The official account for Harvard Law School got involved in the fun - what? Like it’s hard? - and wrote, "Oh, we’re sat".

While Reese might be feeling emotional about the passing of the torch, it’s all love - Reese is actually an executive producer on the show.

In a statement for the show, Reese shared, "25 years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with.

"Discovering Lexi and watching her step into Elle’s fabulous shoes has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career. I think [the] themes of kindness, authenticity and believing in yourself will resonate deeply with fans of the original films and new audiences alike."

What is Elle about?

The series follows a high school age Elle, played by Lexi Minetree, who discovers that her parents, played by June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie) and Tom Everett Scott (ER) are uprooting her life in Los Angeles and moving to Seattle.

The official synopsis for the forthcoming Prime Video show reveals, “Before she was a fish-out-of-water at Harvard…we meet [Elle] in 1995 as a fish in the tumultuous waters of high school where she encounters tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices.”

“Through it all, Elle uses her family as a touchstone, and forms an even tighter bond to her mother (June Diane Raphael), proving that they can get through anything life throws their way as long as they have each other.”

Elle premieres on July 1, on Amazon Prime. Before the first even airs, the streamer has picked the show up for a second series.

Will there be a Legally Blonde 3?

While we might be heading back in time for now, Reese Witherspoon hasn’t ruled out a future return to the character herself.

A third movie was officially announced - first rumoured to be released back in 2022, but hit delays.

As for where it stands now, in an interview with Bustle in March 2026, Reese was asked if a third installment is still a possibility. Her answer? A promising "Absolutely."

She added, "It’s a whole world that we want to build with this character. Not dissimilar to what happened with Barbie two summers ago, there's a feeling that women want to rally around these characters that were part of their childhood and celebrate the idea that Elle Woods is more than the colour pink.

"She's part of your identity of self-worth and accomplishment."

While there’s plenty of tips to help out with the bigger dishes, having a quick and easy sweet treat to fall back on is always a useful card to have up your sleeve.

And thanks to an old Instagram post from Reese Witherspoon - who has previously shared recipes and lessons in Southern hospitality in her own cookbook - there’s the "simplest thing" that you might just become obsessed with, whether it’s something to enjoy yourself or to impress any unexpected guests with.

In a post from 2022 (which now appears to be deleted, but fans on TikTok and other platforms have resurfaced to recreate the recipe themselves), Reese explained, "Okay, I saw this recipe in Southern Living. It's cracker toffee and it's the simplest thing."

Reese’s sweet treat needs just five ingredients - saltines, butter, brown sugar, chocolate chips, and candy cane bites. Anyone wanting to make this in the UK can switch out saltines for a simple sea salt cracker.

To make the treat, Reese explained, "You put down the crackers [lining them on a baking tray], you make a caramel sauce out of brown sugar and butter" and then after slathering your sauce over your arranged crackers, "you bake it for 15 minutes".

After the crackers and sauce have baked, you sprinkle on a generous serving of chocolate chips and Christmas candy cane parts, and it’s ready to eat.

If you fancied adding your own flair to the treat, you could try sprinkling on other flavours or toppings. Edible glitter might make it a statement dessert for any parties you’re attending, or you could experiment with flavours like cinnamon, chilli flakes or anything that you feel could pair well.

After posting the recipe originally in December 2022, when she was helped by her youngest son, Tennessee, she wrote (per the Daily Mail), "Easiest holiday treat recipe EVER!! A new family favorite."

She wore the Oscar De La Renta belted tweed mini dress to the F1 Academy and American Express screening of F1: The Academy in Miami and although the design was simple, it was also incredibly striking. The boucle fabric also took her outfit to another level of elegance. It instantly reminded us of Chanel, which is known for its iconic use of this material for everything from cropped button-up jackets to mini skirts and even handbags.

The texture of a tweed/boucle material has a traditional feel and is particularly gorgeous in monochrome shades which make it more understated. It’s one of those fabrics that will never go out of fashion and Reese Witherspoon proved this in Florida.

Her outfit didn’t immediately scream ‘2025’ and yet it looked right at home in this era, just as it would have done decades ago. She paired her Oscar De La Renta dress with plain white court shoe heels and allowed the dress to shine.

To make this into more of a smart-casual outfit we’d swap these shoes for ballet flats or loafers - both of which are styles associated with Chanel. This approach would also work if you have a midi or knee-length boucle dress or a skirt rather than a mini.

Spring weather is always a little unpredictable but this year it seems to be even more chaotic than usual. One day it's warm and sunny, the next it's cold and rainy again, and the effort to decide between a lighter denim jacket or my best trench coat is a very real struggle right now.

I have found choosing an outfit way trickier than usual, as anything too light and floaty will feel cold first thing, but too many layers will mean that I’m a sweaty mess by lunchtime. For me, jeans and a t-shirt has become my go-to, and it seems Reese Witherspoon has had the same idea as she recently shared some gorgeous snaps of her outfit that ticked all the spring/summer fashion trend boxes, and it's a wonderfully wearable look for between seasons too.

The actress wore a cream-toned pointelle t-shirt and a pair of light wash straight leg jeans, which she finished perfectly with some white strappy, block heels. It's such a chic combination, and the woven fabric of the top gives it a little extra warmth without being too heavy. It really is a winning ensemble to suit the unpredictable weather, and I will be recreating it for the foreseeable future.

In a photograph of her son on Instagram, Reese Witherspoon shared a peek into her home and a look at her living space which has picked up on some of the key Interior Design Trends of 2024.

While there are a variety of Wallpaper trends in 2023, Reese opted for something less fussy and seasonal and had a cream-toned wall as the background of her image. The neutral wall was far from boring as instead of wallpaper patterning the wall, there were panels that lined the space and added dimension and shape to the otherwise plain off-white wall. 

The panelled wall was perfect for a lounge or living space as it created a serene space that oozed quiet luxury and allowed other items in the room to take centre stage. The Shine Away event was a collective day for promoting female empowerment, with A-listers like Tracee Ellis Ross coming to speak to the crowd - so of course, Reese had to be dressed to the nines for the day, and she certainly delivered. 

The mint green co-ord totally gave Elle Woods energy, calling back to her Legally Blonde character - except instead of hot pink, she sported the delicious blue-green hue. The top of the co-ord was an incredible cropped shirt, which also featured a fabulous tailored collar and some large buttons. Similarly, the matching skirt featured those same buttons on the pockets, hitting just above knee-length for the perfect professional-chic ensemble. 

To accessorise the look, she opted for a pair of beautiful nude pump heels, which added to the sophisticated nature of the look. She also kept her hair down, going for a blowout style, and then styled her short, retro bangs hairstyle just perfectly. 

Although mint green would usually be thought to be a colour suitable for springtime, Reese made a pretty strong case for brightening up any autumn day with this shade. Reese Witherspoon, 47, just gave some excellent friendship advice to women everywhere, and we agree with her sage advice.

At a conference in Boston hosted by Hubspot recently, Reese arrived to speak about friendships, talking with moderator and NBC News Daily anchor Zinhle Essamuah about how to cultivate friendships - especially as women in their 40s. Ultimately, she had one sentence that summed up how she felt about maintaining and making the most of your friendships, especially when you have a busy life: "Editing. Edit your friendships," she said.

She went on to explain her simple philosophy, and her reasoning is so wise. "Everybody out there over 40 knows," she said.

"If you aren’t adding to my life, get the heck outta my life. My grandma used to say people are radiators or drains. Stick with the radiators."

Ultimately, the mum and Hollywood A-lister said that she's in a phase of life where she just wants to do "what she wants" - and this advice comes just about a month after the star's divorce from her now ex-husband Jim Toth, with whom she shared 12 years of marriage.

"I really don’t care what anybody thinks. I’m gonna do my work anyway. I’m gonna date whoever I want, go hang out with a friend nobody likes," she said. 

"When you release that feeling of other people’s opinions crushing you or holding you down, you’re free. You’re totally free."

She said that she wouldn't have come to this conclusion had she not underwent some rejection earlier on in her life, and that all of those experiences from her past gave her thicker skin. 

"Rejection was such an early piece of my life that I learned a long time ago that other people's opinions of me are none of my business. Other people's opinions of you, and everyone's gonna have an opinion, doesn't matter," she said. VERY Elle Woods of her to say!

"Why does Ava look more like Reese Witherspoon than Reese Witherspoon," someone commented on a recently posted picture to Reese's Instagram of a selfie she took with Ava, her 23-year-old daughter.

The mother daughter duo can be seen in the pic in bathrobes, getting ready for an Oceana event sponsored by Biossance, looking totally glam before they got dressed to leave. 

"Perfect Summer night with my girl @avaphillippe 🌊 💗learning all about @oceana incredible conservation work 🌊 ✨🦈 #BiossancePartner," Reese captioned her Instagram post, just months after her divorce from her ex-husband Jim Toth was announced. 

As soon as she posted the picture, fans began sounding off in the comments about how scarily identical the two look, especially when sitting right next to each other.

Some folks, on the other hand, had the mind to compare Ava to her father, Ryan Phillippe.

This isn't the first time fans have been divided about who Ava looks more like, though - since Reese often posts pictures of Ava, as well as her 19-year-old son Deacon, the actress' fans are constantly giving their two cents about which kid looks more like which parent.

Aside from the nearly identical blonde locks that both Ava and Reese share (although, this wasn't always the case, seeing as Ava has sported multiple hair colours like orange and pink over the last few years), the fact that they're both in the same Waldorf Astoria bathrobe helps paint the picture. 

The duo also opted for some soft glam makeup, accentuated both of their sets of icy blue eyes with some dark eyeliner.

In the rest of Reese's Instagram post, fans can also see how the mother daughter duo continued to coordinate outfits on the red carpet, with Reese wearing a mint green strapless dress, and Ava wearing a stark white strapless top and maxi skirt combo.

Reese Witherspoon has broken tradition with her Christmas trees this year, much to the delight of her legion of celebrity friends. 

The American actor took to Instagram last month to debut her unconventional holiday decor – and to get some trusted feedback from her online fanbase. 

The social media update comes shortly after it was revealed that Big Little Lies Season 3 is unlikely to ever happen, following the death of its director, Jean-Marc Vallée. 

Never one to let career setbacks dampen her mood, Reese has continued to maintain a positive spirit in the run-up to Christmas. 

In fact, she's even gotten a headstart on celebrating the festive season. The 46-year-old shared a photo of an all-white Christmas tree on her Instagram on November 28, prompting a surge of reactions from her adoring online followers. The snap appears to have been taken at Reese's lavish Nashville mansion, which she shares with her husband Jim Toth, and their three children, Ava, Deacon and Tennessee. 

She captioned the Yuletide-themed picture (which is giving us serious Christmas tree decorating ideas), "Too soon?" The question led to a flurry of reassuring answers, most of which supported Reese's decision to unveil her Christmas tree earlier than normal. 

Some of the responses came from The Morning Show star's celebrity friends, including Mariah Carey, who commented, "Nah, you're good." Octavia Spencer agreed, writing "Nope!!!", while Mindy Kaling said, "Never. Wreath Witherspoon lives!!"

The Morning Show is coming back for season 3, and the already star-studded cast is set to get even brighter.

Reese Witherspoon, who acts as both star and producer of the hit Apple TV series, recently shared a first look from the set of The Morning Show.

The star and executive producer of the hit drama shared a photo from the set of the fictional daytime show, captioned, "We're baaaack! @TheMorningShow Season 3!"

According to E! News, season three will pick up where the last left off, exploring the interesting romantic angle between UBA Network CEO Cory Ellison (played by Billy Crudup) and Bradley Jackson (played by Reese).

Jennifer Aniston is also returning for the third season, continuing her role as controversial news anchor Alex Levy.

There’s another big name joining Jennifer and Reese for the third season - Jon Hamm.

The Mad Men star will be joining the show as Paul Marks, described by Apple TV as "a corporate titan who sets his sights on UBA, pulling Cory, Alex and Bradley into his powerful orbit."

As if there wasn’t enough drama to unpack after the end of season two.

The show last left off with Jennifer Aniston’s Alex Levy, freshly “canceled” by social media, live streaming her struggle with Covid. Fed up with the politics and social media policing, Alex decided enough was enough and she warned those trying to cancel her that she wasn’t going to go anywhere.

How to watch The Morning Show

While there’s no release date known for season three, the first two seasons of the show are available to stream exclusively on Apple TV.

Both seasons are ten episodes long. Season one focuses on the #MeToo movement after Alex’s co-star, played by Steve Carell, is accused of historic sexual assault claims.

Season two follows the fallout from the first season, but, in a display of art imitating life, incorporates the coronavirus pandemic.

Mindy Kaling always looks on point, but there is just something about the 43-year-old actor, writer, producer and director that has elevated her sense of style this summer and her fans have noticed.

As she noted a few months ago while promoting the second season of her hilarious show The Sex Lives of College Girls, Mindy hasn't always looked and felt this confident.

"I eat what I like to eat," she said to Entertainment Tonight a while back while discussing her obvious weight loss journey. "If I do any kind of restrictive diet, it never really works for me. Fans can finally get a first look at the much-anticipated movie adaptation of Delia Owens' award-winning novel Where the Crawdads Sing.

Starring Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones in the lead role, the movie tells the tale of a young woman who lives in the North Carolina marshes and becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation concerning a man she was in a romantic relationship with.

The haunting first trailer for the film, which hails from Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hey Sunshine, is out now and it features a song by Taylor Swift called Carolina. 

"As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side," Taylor wrote in an Instagram post this week, also revealing that she read the book and loved it. "I wrote the song 'Carolina' alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story." Mission accomplished.

Reese also took to the social media platform to celebrate the release of the trailer. "The gift of all gifts!," she wrote. "Thrilled to share the official trailer for @crawdadsmovie, coming to theaters this July."

The actor actually selected the novel as her Reese's Book Club pick in September of 2018, just a month after it first came out. Sense and Sensibility

For those looking to switch things up this Valentine’s Day and watch something a little more historical, then look no further than the Jane Austen classic, Sense and Sensibility, brought to life in this 195 adaptation. This version sees none other than Dame Emma Thompson, whose husband Greg Wise was on the latest series of Strictly, in the leading role as Elinor Dashwood. Possessing cool judgement, she’s not one to get swept away by love—or is she? 

Friends with Benefits

This classic tale of friends discovering their connection might go deeper is set in New York City and sees Dylan (played by Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (played by Mila Kunis) come to an agreement. No strings attached sex is on the table, with neither believing that feelings can arise out of this situation. Soon, though, they discover that they might not have been quite right about this. But whether or not they return the other’s feelings remains to be seen… Fun, contemporary and a great romantic movie to add to your list. 

Maid in Manhattan

Love Jennifer Lopez? Then this classic rom-com is the one for you this Valentine’s Day. Starring the legendary J-Lo with Ralph Fiennes as her character Marisa’s love interest and Stanley Tucci and Natasha Richardson alongside them in the cast this is a star-studded love story. Working as a maid in an upmarket New York hotel and single-handedly raising her son, a case of mistaken identity leaves senatorial candidate Chris Marshall seriously smitten with her.  

Wedding Season

This is a new addition to the ranks of the best romantic movies and was only released in 2022. This love story follows economist Asha who previously broke off her engagement, only for her mother to secretly set up a dating profile for her. Asha’s first date with Ravi found via her profile doesn't work out brilliantly but they soon come up with a plan: to be each other’s “date” throughout the summer’s many, many weddings and lessen the pressure on them to find their soulmate. The Wedding Date

If you want a side of comedy with your romance then look no further than The Wedding Date. Starring the late Heath Ledger, if you love Shakespeare then this modernized retelling of The Taming of the Shrew might be the ideal Valentine’s Day movie for you. Set in an American high school, new student Cameron is eager to get around his crush Olivia’s father’s strict views about her dating only when her older sister does. To help him in his quest and believing shrewish Kat is unlikely to do this without some persuasion, Cameron tries to persuade bad boy Patrick to date her. Will he succeed? La La Land

John Tucker Must Die

This teen romantic comedy is packed full of memorable moments as three high school girls plot to get revenge on arrogant sporting star John Tucker. Danielle soon meets and forms a friendship with France’s Prince Henry without revealing her true identity. Where was Reese Witherspoon born?

Despite one of her most beloved films being Sweet Home Alabama, Reese was actually born in New Orleans, Louisiana. According to Britannica, the 45-year-old then spent five years of her life in West Germany, where her father was serving as a military surgeon before the family moved to Nashville, Tennessee.

As a child, she worked as a model and appeared in TV commercials, before her big break into the movie business. She starred in The Man In The Moon in 1991, playing tomboy Dani Trant.

Although it might appear it's all been plain sailing for the star, she's previously opened up about trauma from her early years in the showbiz industry. During the early days of the #metoo movement, in 2017, Reese spoke at an Elle Women in Hollywood event to share her story of being assaulted and harassed by a director aged only 16. 

She spoke of her trauma, her anger at being told to keep quiet. "I wish that I could tell you that was an isolated incident in my career," she said. "But sadly it wasn’t. I’ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault and I don’t speak about them very often." The actor bravely went on to explain that for her and other women in the industry, the movement was a chance to stand together and know you're not alone in your experience.

Reese has been married twice. Her first marriage was to fellow actor Ryan Phillippe with whom she famously starred in the racy film Cruel Intentions. The pair met on the day of Reese's 21st birthday in March 1997. 

Ryan told Pennsylvania newspaper, The Morning Call, his side of the story back in 1999. E! News reports that he said, "I crashed her party, I went with a friend because I knew there would be free food and drinks." He added, "I was just sitting back in the corner pounding away the drinks when somebody walked over and introduced Reese to me."

Fuelled by her attraction, and maybe a little Dutch courage, it was his future wife who made the first move.

"I don't know what came over me—maybe the seven Midori sours—but I told [Ryan], 'I think you're my birthday present," she revealed to Jane Magazine, back in 1998. Whatever the method, the results certainly had the desired effect. "He thought it was so flattering, and now that I think about it...how embarrassing!"

The Legally Blonde star needn't have spent any time blushing because it was all up from there. The happy pair became engaged the following year and were married in June 1999, in a super romantic ceremony in Charleston, South Carolina. Only three months later their first daughter Ava Phillippe was born and four years later their son Deacon joined the family.

The former couple separated in 2006, much to the shock of their loyal fanbase, and their divorce was finalized in 2007. 

In 2009 Reese, who was dating Jake Gyllenhaal at the time, spoke to Elle about her divorce. She said it was, "very humiliating and very isolating." The exact reason for the dissolution of their marriage isn't known, but in the years since they've both mentioned a shared issue—how young they were. "I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young," Ryan explained to Larry King , per InStyle, during a 2015 TV appearance. "I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there's so much noise that goes along with it."

This was backed up by his ex-wife who, in 2017, told UK TV host Lorraine, "I got married when I was 23 and I had two kids by the time I was 27. So I don’t know, you know, sometimes it’s good to know yourself." But she added, "I would never change anything."

Despite the split, they have remained friends and happily co-parent their children, who both look remarkably like their movie star parents.

On parental responsibilities post-divorce, Ryan told Entertainment Tonight, "You have to get to that point as a divorced parent, as any parent, where you’re not putting yourself first."

Reese spoke about their family as well, telling ABC News in 2011, "I always tell my kids, 'You're so lucky cause it's not just your mom and dad who love you. You have grandparents that love you, a stepdad that loves you and it's always such a great opportunity to have as many people in your life nurturing you and carrying you and guiding you in this life.'"

Reese met her second husband Jim Toth in 2010. Jim is a talent agent as well as being the co-head of motion picture talent at the agency which represents Reese, Creative Artists Agency. 

The story of how they met is a lot less flirtatious than her previous marriage and more relating to her being impressed by his kindness and chivalry. It was, however, also at a party. Reese told Elle that she was minding her own business at a party and a really drunk guy was coming onto her way too strong. She revealed that it happened, "out of the blue." She said, "Jim came over and said, 'Please excuse my friend. He's just broken up with someone.' Jim was a really good friend, pulling him out of that situation. That's just kind of who he is, a really good person."

She revealed that Jim also said, "I'm gonna show you every day what a good partner is, what a good person is. I'm going to take care of you. I'm gonna do this so much that you're gonna get used to it." Unsurprisingly, after those smooth words, they were married a year later. Earlier this year they celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary and are still as happy as can be.

Reese is the proud mom of three. Her older children Ava, 21, and Deacon, 17, are from her first marriage to Ryan. Ava is currently a student at UC Berkley and Deacon is busying himself with a burgeoning music career.

Although she's largely stayed away from any controversy, back in 2013, Reese hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after she was arrested for disorderly conduct in Atlanta. The two women started their friendship when Reese played Jenefier's on-screen sister in Friends, while they cemented it on set in 2019, when they starred together in the controversial drama The Morning Show.

The post had thousands of comments wishing the Friends star a happy birthday, while Reese's famous co-star from Little Fires Everywhere Kerry Washington even got in on the action.

The Golden Globe-nominated actress called them both 'beauties', before wishing Jen a great birthday. The Big Little Lies actress posted a still from the 2002 adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest when she played the character, Cecily Cardew.  The A-lister captioned the post, “Watches one episode of #Bridgerton” with a selection of flower emojis.

Normal People fans will be excited to learn that leading lady Daisy Edgar-Jones has landed herself a new lead role in Reese Witherspoon's adaptation film of Where the Crawdads Sing.

Actress turned producer Reese, might well be reprising her role following the Legally Blonde 3 release date , but she's also taken Daisy under her wing for a new producing project.

And Daisy, 22, couldn't believe her own luck when she announced the news to her fans on social media. She shared a screen shot of the news with the caption, "I can't actually believe this!?"

The young actress will play lead character Kya, in the movie which is based on the novel by Delia Owens and set in America's Deep South.

Kya is a young woman who finds herself abandoned by her parents and left alone on a marsh just outside a small town in North Carolina. She becomes a respected author but then finds herself accused of the murder of her former boyfriend Chase Andrews.

Daisy was flung into the limelight following her portrayal of Marianne in the adaption of Sally Rooney's book Normal People, which is among Amazon's most popular books to read in lockdown.

And Paul Mescal, who played on-off love interest Connell her in the BBC series, was just as supportive off screen by sharing the news too on his social media.

Meanwhile, Reece Witherspoon, who is co-producing the film alongside Lauren Neustadter, is delighted with the casting. she wrote, "So excited to have @daisyedgarjones joining this production!"

They will be producing with their company Hello Sunshine for Sony Pictures.

Olivia Newman wrote and directed the Netflix film First Match in 2018 and will direct this movie, while Oscar-nominated Lucy Alibar will write the script.

It is not yet known when filming will start for Where the Crawdads Sing or when the film is expected to be released but 2020 is certainly turning out to be a good year for Daisy.
