The former First Lady of the United States of America is still making heads turn (in a good way!) with her awesome fashion choices.

While on tour promoting her newest book, The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times, Michelle Obama, who recently revealed she'd only hug King Charles on one condition after breaking royal protocol with Queen, donned an eye-catching Fila x Roksanda jacket that has very rapidly become the coolest item we’ve seen all season long.

The 58-year-old's entire look was a tribute to the 1990s. Michelle paired the jacket with a pair of black pants also by FILA and London-based brand Roksanda, plus an aqua-colored one-shoulder bodysuit and black booties. Perhaps most nostalgically, Michelle wore her braided hair half-up and half-down. To put it as simply as possible: she looked uber cool.

The mother of two, who recently shared her support for daughters Malia and Sasha to 'never have kids' and 'choose to only focus on their career,' posted a series of photos of herself in the outfit on Instagram while at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta while sitting down to discuss her new work with filmmaker Tyler Perry.

"I’m having such a wonderful time seeing so many of you on my #TheLightWeCarry book tour," the former First Lady wrote in the caption. "@TylerPerry, thank you for joining me these last two nights in Atlanta. And to those who are following along, thank you for picking up the book and sharing the tools that have helped you along the way. Keep your reflections coming!"

The Light We Carry follows Michelle's best-selling memoir, Becoming, which was published back in 2018.

"In The Light We Carry, Mrs. Obama offers readers a series of fresh stories and insightful reflections on change, challenge, and power, including her belief that when we light up for others, we can illuminate the richness and potential of the world around us, discovering deeper truths and new pathways for progress," reads an official synopsis of the book. "Drawing from her experiences as a mother, daughter, spouse, friend, and First Lady, she shares the habits and principles she has developed to successfully adapt to change and overcome various obstacles—the earned wisdom that helps her continue to become. She details her most valuable practices, like starting kind,' 'going high,' and assembling a 'kitchen table' of trusted friends and mentors."

“Keep in mind, too, that everything I know, all the various tools I lean on, have come to me only through trial and error, over years of constant practice and reevaluation," Michelle wrote in the introduction. "I spent decades learning on my feet, making mistakes, adjustments and course corrections as I went. I've progressed only slowly to where I am today.”

The author has always been very candid about life's difficulties and her coping mechanisms. Back in 2021, for example, she revealed how anxious and uncertain 9/11 made her feel for her then young daughters. 

"I’d just buckled newborn Sasha into her car seat and was driving back home when I heard the news on the radio—and the uncertainty and anxiety set in almost immediately. What was happening? Had the world just changed? What kind of future were our girls going to enter?," she wrote in an Instagram post last year about the horrible historical event. "Each of us, if we were old enough at the time, has our own story from that day. It’s a snapshot—a time capsule—back to a different moment for all of us. For those who lost loved ones, it’s especially painful to relive. My heart goes out to all those for whom this wasn’t just a national tragedy, but a personal one."

Michelle Obama has revealed that she would support her daughters Malia and Sasha if they chose to never have children in a new interview, revealing, "Happiness looks like a lot of different things." 

The former First Lady of the United States spoke candidly about her hopes for her adult children on the Tamron Hall Show on Monday - and why she's so determined to 'make their worlds bigger for them.' The comments come shortly after Michelle Obama revealed she'd only hug King Charles on one condition after breaking royal protocol with the Queen. 

Speaking with the American chatshow's host, Tamron Hall, The Light We Carry author criticized the societal pressures on modern women to get married and have children. 

"Happiness looks like a lot of different things, and we as women, we are constricted by these narrow definitions of how we can be happy when that is not the truth, right?" the 58-year-old said. The US attorney also told Tamron that "too many people" end up marrying the "wrong person" because they're "rushing to check the box of marriage before they even know who they are." 

The conversation got Obama reflecting on her hopes for her two daughters, Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21. 

"I want my girls to spend some time with themselves to develop some skills to understand that they can make it with or without, that they can build their happiness with all the bells and whistles and they can be happy if they choose to only focus on their career, to never have kids," she said. "I want to make their worlds bigger for them." 

Despite being the daughters of former President Obama, Malia and Sasha lead a relatively normal existence outside of the public eye. In a recent interview with ABC's Good Morning America, Michelle revealed that the sisters are currently living together in an apartment in Los Angeles. She even shared a sweet anecdote of when Malia and Sasha hosted their parents for dinner and martinis, only to discover at the last minute that they didn't have the correct ingredients to create the iconic cocktails. 

Michelle was still touched by the effort, however, adding, "They were trying to, they were hosting us. And it's just fun, watching them become themselves." 

What are Malia and Sasha Obama doing now? 

The Obama daughters may live together, but that doesn't mean they haven't pursued their own individual paths. Malia, 24, is currently a writer for Daniel Glover's new Amazon series, which is said to be based on a 'Beyonce-like' character and rumored to be entitled 'Hive'. Meanwhile, Sasha, 21, is in the final year of her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California. 

In an accompanying video to his new Netflix series Our Great National Parks, former President of the United States Barack Obama and former chief White House photographer Pete Souza reminisce about the time Barack really spooked out his Secret Service.

The new show, yet another culturally significant endeavor by Barack, who previously teamed up with Bruce Springsteen on a podcast and a book, is a five-part documentary series that focuses on some of the most spectacular national parks in the world. The former commander-in-chief serves as both the executive producer and the narrator of the production.

In an accompanying video to the series, Barack and Pete reminisce about some of the trips that they have taken together alongside former First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha throughout Barack's tenure as President. Pete obviously tagged along to take official portraits of the First Family across a variety of destinations.

"We were so confined in the White House," Barack says in the video. "Every time we had one of these trips and you suddenly could see reminders of what this planet has to offer and emotions that were stirred [...] I would always come back feeling different in a way that no other experiences gave me."

While browsing through photos that Pete took on camera, Barack specifically recalls their visit to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico. 

"Those caves were remarkable," Barack says in the clip. "I didn't expect them to be as massive as they were. One thing you always get an impression of is what it must have been like if you were one of the first people to really see these places and survey them — the amount of courage that would be involved."

He went on to say that, at one point, the staff turned all the lights off and, "You could not see your hand in front of your face.

"It's the most nervous the secret service has ever been because they could not see you. You disappeared," Pete responds. "That was pretty spooky."

"I vanished," Barack says smiling.

We certainly don’t envy the amount of stress that the Secret Service is undoubtedly burdened with—but we’re jealous of the beautiful places they’ve got to visit with the former President in tow.

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden took their first overseas trip to the UK since the President took office.

The President and First Lady will meet with the Queen, but before the couple enjoys a tea party at Windsor Castle, they made an appearance at the Royal Air Force Base Mildenhall. It was there that they both made speeches to the American troops stationed there before heading off to the G7 Summit. Dr. Biden took a more lighthearted approach to her speech though, even jokingly teasing President Biden to "pay attention" to her speech.

Many First Ladies, with Michelle Obama being a recent exception, take a more formal approach to their role, but it seems as if Dr. Biden is trying to shake things up. Even before she beganher speech, she tried to create a more casual atmosphere.

"I don’t want you to stand,” she laughed to the crowd of US service men and women serving in the UK. 

It was also at that moment that she turned around and noticed the President had his back to her. Instead of facing her, he took a moment to look at the troops positioned behind them.

"Joe, pay attention”, she joked, which was met with laughter from the audience.

Will First Lady Dr. Jill Biden bring this casual attitude when she meets the Queen?

The role of First Lady does not come with a rulebook, according to Natalie Gonnella-Platts, who studies first ladies around the world as director of the Women's Initiative at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in University Park, Texas. When discussing Dr. Biden's first 100 days to USA Today, she went on to say the role is essentially,"defined by who you are and what you bring to the position, your passion, your background, the era in which you live, and the changing role of women more broadly in society."

This isn't the First Lady's first time in the White House either, her experience as the Second Lady during past President Barack Obama's time allowed her to gain an understanding of the expectations you're under when meeting high profile figures.

We can probably expect her to follow the traditional protocols when meeting with the Queen this weekend. That doesn't necessarily mean that Dr. Biden's personality won't shine through though. Along with playing the role of First Lady, Dr. Biden continues teaching at Northern Virginia Community College where she seems to have mastered the art of being personable with a touch of humor. Who knows maybe she'll get a laugh from the Queen too after they've settled in for tea.

Michelle Obama has opened up about her fears for her daughters' safety as black women in US society, admitting she worries about them 'every time they get in a car by themselves.' 

The former First Lady sat down on CBS This Morning yesterday to discuss a variety of topics—including her concerns as a mother to two children of color. 

Michelle revealed she is excited for the future of her eldest daughter, Malia, but also nervous about the risks she faces in public as a black person. The 22-year-old will step foot into the working world once she graduates with a degree in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard in May—a transition that instills both pride and trepidation in her protective mom. 

"I am excited for her next chapter," she told host, Gayle King. "That's why I want to be as excited as every parent. I don't want to worry about her entering a world where she has to worry about how people will treat her because of the color of her skin,' she said.

Michelle went on to explain that the systematic racism of today's America makes it difficult to fully celebrate her daughter's milestones. The attorney-turned-philanthropist, who recently partnered with Girls Scouts for an inspiring cause, constantly frets that Malia will be subject to discrimination in society. 

"I am excited but I'd like to be more excited to know that as she goes out and gets her first apartment and rides the subway somewhere, that they don't make assumptions about her based on the color of her skin," she said, "That she's not at risk, out there, as an adult because she's a black woman." 

Malia is reportedly under the protection of the Secret Service at college, who dress in plain clothes and ensure her wellbeing from a distance. It remains unclear if she will have the same security after she graduates. Her younger sister Sasha, who is currently a student at the University of Michigan, is also said to be under the surveillance of high-ranking security agents. 

The prevalence of US police brutality against people of color has placed Michelle on high alert, especially as her daughters become more independent. 

"Every time they get in a car by themselves, I worry about what assumption is being made by somebody who doesn't know everything about them," she said. The Becoming author added that she knows even the smallest act could draw unwanted attention to her children, and potentially end in devastating consequences. 

"The fact that they are good students and polite girls. But maybe they're playing their music a little loud. Maybe somebody sees the back of their head and makes an assumption." 

"I, like so many parents of black kids—the innocent act of getting a license puts fear in our hearts."
