In a matter of weeks Titanic star Kate Winslet will be a special guest at the Princess of Wales’s Together at Christmas carol concert, where she’ll perhaps come face-to-face with Catherine’s father-in-law King Charles. The actor and monarch have met before, and Kate’s first interaction with him almost thirty years ago was rather memorable.

She opened up about the experience on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on 18th November, explaining that she was just 20 at the time and was at the premiere of her 1996 film, Sense and Sensibility. Kate went for a daring sheer lace dress for this glamorous occasion and then realised she really was going to be meeting the then-Prince of Wales.

"The first time I met him, oh my goodness, he had come to support the premiere," she said, adding. "And I sort of hadn’t realised that we were really going to meet him, and so I forgot about the fact that I was wearing a kind of a transparent lace outfit."

Thankfully, Kate Winslet avoided possibly flashing the future King thanks to her decision to wear a long black coat over the top - and a timely reminder from someone else at the event.

"As he is making his way towards me, I’m like, 'Nipples, nipples, nipples, oh my God!' And someone just went, 'Coat!' and I went, 'Your Majesty!' basically covering myself in a cape," the actor confessed.

Pictures taken at the premiere show King Charles chatting animatedly with Kate’s Sense and Sensibility co-star, the late Alan Rickman, whilst she stood in the line ready to greet him with her trusty coat wrapped round her. Now, decades later, she’s a Hollywood icon with a new royal connection, having become an Ambassador for The King’s Foundation in June.

She met His Majesty once again at The King’s Foundation annual awards that month and volunteered to go first in curtseying to him, showing fellow A-lister Meryl Streep the ropes. The two had been in a "big panic" about what was required beforehand.

"Meryl and I, as we were walking to meet the King… she says to me, 'Do you think we have to curtsy?' I said, 'Absolutely, we have to curtsy.' She was like, 'Okay, is it a big curtsy? What do we do?' I said, 'I don't know, we'll just make the most,' and she was like, 'I don't know if we need to do that. There was a big panic because we didn't know what the form was."

Whilst curtseying to the monarch is always going to go down well as good manners, it’s not technically a requirement. A small curtsey is a traditional way for a woman to great a royal, whilst a bow from the neck is traditional for a man.

Yet even the Royal Family’s own website has confirmed that there are no "obligatory codes of behaviour" for meeting them. The royals do famously greet the monarch traditionally, with Meghan Markle sharing her surprise about this.

The Duchess of Sussex reflected in the Harry & Meghan Netflix series that she’d thought Harry was joking when he asked her if she knew how to curtsy before she met Queen Elizabeth.

“How do you explain that to people? How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother? And that you would need to curtsy, especially to an American. That’s weird,” the Prince said.

Awards season never fails to showcase some breath-taking outfits but whilst the magnificent floor-length gowns aren’t going to make their way into most people’s winter capsule wardrobe, Kate Winslet’s Golden Globes look is much more wearable. The Hollywood star took to the red carpet on 5th January wearing a fabulous white suit and her choice to go for sleek tailoring definitely paid off. Kate championed one of the best British clothing brands with her co-ord, which is understood to have been a bespoke Erdem design.

The designer is beloved by everyone from the Princess of Wales to Keira Knightley and Kate Winslet’s suit was reportedly made from a silk wool material. The blazer was single-breasted with a classic lapel collar and fastened at the front with two covered buttons.

It had a streamlined shape and flared out slightly at the waist with a slightly asymmetric shape, giving us more of a glimpse of Kate’s beautiful matching trousers. When you want to feel confident and chic but still be incredibly comfortable we would always recommend going for a wide leg silhouette. Wide leg trousers have an elegant drape to them, especially if they have a crisp pleat like Kate’s had and the looser fit is so easy to wear.

Kate Winslet’s suit trousers fell right to the floor for a more dramatic, elevated look and the blazer seamlessly flowed down over them. Whilst the trousers were plain, we couldn’t help admiring the contrast of the black floral embroidery that adorned the blazer. This detailing was on the left shoulder of the jacket, as well as on the right sleeve and right side above the hem.

Although the embroidery was delicate, the black tone ensured that it stood out against the white background colour whilst still being very understated. The floral motifs were so feminine and soft and this was striking combined with the crisp tailoring of the suit. It also looked as though the flowers might have been roses or at least they had a rose-esque shape to them which could be seen as a sweet nod to one of her most iconic roles as Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic.

Whether or not this was a deliberate choice for this garment, this possible hidden meaning makes Kate Winslet’s Golden Globes white suit even more special. Had she been wearing this suit in a colder climate Kate could easily have added one of her best cashmere jumpers under the jacket for some extra warmth, but for an edgy and glamorous twist at the awards in Los Angeles she wore the blazer as a top in itself.

The actor styled the suit with a pair of simple black heels and some spectacular, glimmering jewellery. Suits like Kate’s are often overlooked as being too corporate when people consider what to wear for special occasions or evenings out, but tailored pieces can be styled as casual or as dressed-up as you like. A matching suit is a brilliant option if you don’t know what to wear and don’t want to worry about putting together separate items.

As Kate Winslet proved at the Golden Globes a monochrome suit is especially bold and neutral tones like white and black make a suit even more versatile as you can mix and match your different colour accessories with ease.

Kate Winslet believes that confidence "gets better with age" and recently shared the "best advice" she’s ever received from another woman - and it was delivered by Emma Thompson.

Confidence can often be a challenging subject and throughout our lives many of us might find ourselves wondering how to be confident again after a set-back or feeling like it’s difficult to be confident in ourselves at all times. However, Kate Winslet thinks that confidence - like so many other things - gets better with age and recently shared how she feels so much more "grounded" in herself now. The star opened up in an insightful video with Harper’s Bazaar UK and expressed how as we get older, she feels we become "accepting of ourselves" as we learn valuable lessons.

"The thing I’ve learnt about confidence is that it also gets better with age. I think as we get older we become more accepting of who we are and how our bodies and our faces change and how we learn from the lessons of life," Kate declared. "We have to become more accepting of ourselves and of other people."

As she’s grown older herself, Kate believes that patience is also something she’s "learnt", sharing that "all of those things make me feel more confident in who I am, more grounded."

It’s not the only thing that she has learnt as she has grown older, though, as the Titanic star reflected upon the valuable lesson she’s learnt about friendship - and it seems her confidence and self-assurance is very much recognised by her friends. So much so, that she believes that they consider her to be a brilliant person to call in a crisis.

Kate said, "I have learnt that friendship matters a lot and that it’s ok not to have a tonne of friends, just that small handful of very special people who know you like the back of their hand. And friendships among women I find as they evolve over time *really* matter because you really do prop each other up."

"I think my friends would describe me as the person you can call in a crisis and then they’ll probably then say and I will always know exactly what to do. Which is probably true," she added.

Her friends no doubt give her great advice in return and the "best" piece of guidance she’s "ever received from another woman" was from fellow actor Emma Thompson, who she worked with on the 1995 film Sense and Sensibility. Although Kate Winslet didn’t reveal exactly when the advice was given, she explained that she had been "younger" and it has stuck with her ever since.

"The best piece of life advice I think I’ve ever received from another woman was probably from Emma Thompson when I was younger," Kate said. "And she said to me, "Listen, babe, just remember, it’s really important to do good work, but it’s also really important not to work." And I’ve never forgotten that."

Emma Thompson’s advice to Kate early on has clearly been taken on board by the incredibly successful star as her career continues to go from strength to strength. The two stars have a close bond and Kate went into more detail about Emma’s advice during a conversation with moderator Josh Horowitz at The 92nd Street Y Center for Culture & Arts in New York City in September. As per People, she disclosed, "She has a groundedness and a clarity of perception about the industry as a whole. She was quite, sort of, protective of me."

Discussing Emma’s advice Kate shared how she knew she didn’t want her job as an actor to "run out" and that she worried that people would "get sick" of her and argue, "Well, not her anymore, and let’s move on to somebody else.’"

"I do remember me taking it very seriously, what Emma had said and acting on it. And still acting on it actually," she concluded.

They are something a little different and can lift the colour palette of a dark-toned outfit, as well as looking fabulous with lighter neutrals like white, cream, beige and camel.

The actor’s boots were a soft toffee colour and the elasticated panels on either side were a darker chocolate brown, adding a touch of contrast whilst not being too bold. Just like black boots, brown ones are so easy to style with other colours and Kate chose a flat pair with a rounded toe. The blazer and pants matched perfectly in a crisp white hue, creating the perfect late-summer set. The blazer, which the actress left unbuttoned, was hip-length and featured three sets of buttons going adjacent to the bottom of the lapels. The pants were perfectly tailored, fitting slightly loose and cascading down to her ankle to create an ethereal sort of look for what would have otherwise been a formal pantsuit.

To accessorize the statement suit, she wore a sheer, nude bodice underneath, and donned a pair of eggshell-coloured boots. She also wore some chic sparkling bracelets, as well as a pair of dangling silver earrings to complete the look.

In some pictures, the actress can be seen wearing a super fabulous pair of wide-frame black glasses, which really add to the whole cool-girl-in-the-office vibe she's presenting. 

Even though she may look incredibly comfortable and relaxed in her body, she still faces insecurities - especially when filming. Recently, Kate also gave an interview with Vogue in which she discussed feeling as though she had to be "brave" while filming a nude scene for her upcoming project titled Lee. 

The actress has been outspoken about body image in the past, saying that it's a "myth" that women in Hollywood look perfect all the time. 

Due to injury, the actress was unable to indulge in her usual exercise routine, which resulted in her having what she called the "softest" version of her body. "You know I had to be really f**king brave about letting my body be its softest version of itself and not hiding from that," she said.

She revealed that, while on set, she felt uncomfortable while filming a separate scene where she was wearing a bikini as well. "And believe me, people amongst our own team would say, 'You might just want to sit up a bit.' And I’d go, 'Why? [Because of] the bit of flesh you can see? No, that’s the way it’s going to be!'"

Ultimately, though, despite any insecurities or adversity, she rose above. "I know better than to waste precious energy on criticizing my physical self," she said. "I think any woman is better off just saying: I believe in myself. It doesn’t matter what other people think; this is who I am - let’s get on with it."

Is I Am Ruth a series? 

Although I Am Ruth is part of a series, it’s not a multi-episode drama in itself. Instead this Channel 4 feature-length film is part of the wider I Am Series which is an anthology series like The White Lotus is. I Am Ruth follows on from the likes of I Am Maria starring The Crown’s Lesley Manville, I Am Hannah starring Marvel’s Gemma Chan and I Am Nicola starring Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure.

What’s the I Am Ruth plot and is it based on a true story? 

For those who aren’t quite sure what lies in store for them in the I Am Ruth plot, this poignant, and at points harrowing, feature-length drama explores the impact of social media. Starring Kate Winslet as working single mother Ruth and Mia Threapleton as her daughter Freya, I Am Ruth shows the pair struggling to connect with each other and Freya retreating into herself. 

The film goes on to show how the pressures of social media are having a devastating effect on Freya’s mental health. Meanwhile, Ruth comes to believe her daughter’s obsession with social media is unhealthy but feels powerless when it comes to how best to help her. 

Although it’s not based directly on a specific true story, the situation Ruth and Freya are in could be seen to mirror real-life issues of young people struggling with mental health as a result of social media and their parents’ struggles to comprehend what’s going on. Kate Winslet also opened up to RadioTimes.com and other press at an event and explained that since the dialogue in I Am Ruth is unscripted, she felt inspired by conversations she’d heard or stories she’d been told. 

"I've been a parent to teenagers and I've also been on the periphery of friends raising teenagers who have gone through some absolutely horrific things,” the Hollywood star explained. “So a lot of the conversations that you hear, and even specific words that come out of my mouth, are direct from things that friends have said to me.”

She went on to reflect upon a particular scene in I Am Ruth and how relatable she found it to her own life.

Kate said, "There's a scene when Ruth sits on the bed and she says, 'I just don't know who I am, I'm really struggling, I don't like myself, I don't look forward to anything.' That is literally a conversation that I had with a very close friend a couple of years ago. And I wanted to honour those stories, and along with Mia, we wanted to tell a story of our time, without preaching."

The Oscar-Award winner also expressed hope that with I Am Ruth and the difficult issues and themes it focuses on they can spark important conversations. 

“Hopefully we're creating an avenue for conversation, and being able to say to people, ‘I didn't know what to do either. It's alright. It's alright.' We just wanted to tell a story that felt timely and visceral and truthful, even though obviously there are parts of it that are very hard to watch,” Kate declared.

Who’s in the I Am Ruth cast? 

The I Am Ruth cast is made up of both professional actors and non-actors and several of them are connected to lead star Kate Winslet. One of Kate Winslet’s children, Mia Threapleton, is in I Am Ruth playing her on-screen daughter Freya. Kate herself revealed the connections many of the non-actors who appear in the film have to her family too. 

“Dominic likes to work with real people and real relationships, and in some of his previous I Ams, actually in most of them, there was often some overlap where the leading actresses have actually suggested a very old friend of theirs for a role and that person suddenly appears,” Kate shared. 

She continued, "And he likes to work with real people, so the guy who plays [Freya's] teacher, he is actually Mia’s old teacher. His name’s Simon and he’s lovely, he was her English and Drama teacher. I just phoned him and I said, ‘Simon, I’ve got this suggestion.' He said, ‘Oh god, I can’t do that,' [and] I said, ‘Yes you can. It’s just a day, it'll be great.' And he was just terrific."

Other cast members include Joe Anders as Ruth’s son Billy, Line of Duty’s Royce Pierreson as Miguel, her trainer and Doctor Who's Seroca Davis as her friend Paula. Mia’s old teacher Simon plays Freya’s teacher in the film and real-life doctor Suzy plays a doctor here too. 

Where was I Am Ruth filmed? 

Like its setting, I Am Ruth is understood to have been filmed in the UK. However, unlike other film and show locations like those where Shetland was filmed that are so obviously the Shetland Islands, it’s not immediately clear where in the UK more specifically I Am Ruth was shot. You’d think that Kate Winslet would’ve steered clear of going anywhere near water after everything she endured in 1997’s Titanic.

Kate talked about what it meant to her as an actress over a certain age to be out there smashing the record of action stars.

She told the magazine, “The most amazing thing for me as a middle-aged woman was to learn something not just new, but superhuman!”

Speaking to another outlet, she couldn’t help but feel proud of her accomplishments, telling Entertainment Tonight, “It was brilliant and I was very proud of myself and I’ll probably never be able to do it again.”

She also joked about how her husband had tried to help her learn the skill, only for her to show him how it was really done.

The Titanic star explained how her husband, Ned Abel Smith, trained with her “and he got quite good at the breath holding as well. But he did … black out.”

They report that their insider claimed there’s “talk of a documentary” with “Kate and Leo taking the starring role”. Speculation regarding a possible Titanic anniversary project has also seen rumors of revisiting sets and a cast reunion party thrown into the mix.

The Mare of Easttown star didn't take too kindly to being asked about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's rekindled romance in a recent interview, insisting she knows nothing about the celebrity couple's high-profile relationship.

In the same interview, she confessed to having a "potty mouth" just like her Mare of Easttown character, Mare Sheehan, and even stealing (and then losing) a pair of Rose's earrings from the Titanic set. She also shares a daughter Mia (20) with her first husband, director Jim Threapleton, and a son Joe (17) with Sam Mendes, her second husband.

An alternative ending to the James Cameron's 1997 film, Titanic, has resurfaced, and fans are extremely happy that the producers decided to leave this 'awful' ending on the cutting room floor.

Titanic (1997) was the perfect 90’s movie. A hot young Leonardo DiCaprio boards the boat as a poor artist and manages to sweep the rich and beautiful Kate Winslet off her feet. The film has danger, desire, amazing costumes, and a perfect bittersweet ending. However, fans were shocked to find that the final scenes that we all know and love were not the only way this Oscar-winning film could have ended.

Twitter user, Pat Brennan, posted the alternative ending on his page. He wrote, “The alternate ending to Titanic is hilarious. This would have absolutely ruined the film for me.” The tweet quickly went viral, and people felt very strongly about the alternative ending.

In the deleted scene, instead of quietly throwing the necklace - the heart of the sea - back into the ocean to Jack, an elderly Rose is interrupted by the boat's crew, who try to stop her. Rose still manages to throw the necklace back into the ocean despite the crew’s protests and one man shouting, “That really sucks, lady!” at the elderly woman. But fans argue that the scene's message is different, and the ending comes across as preachy and comical instead of understated and romantic. 

The reactions to this video were very negative, and many viewers expressed their relief that the producers decided to stick to the original ending.

One commenter wrote, “I'm absolutely losing it at ‘The real treasure is life itself.’ Such a rich white lady thing to fucking say haha.” Another said, “The only way this could’ve been worse is if there was a shot of the jewelry reaching the bottom of the ocean and landing in the hand of a skeleton wearing Jack’s clothes lmao.”

Fortunately, this scene was just included on the DVD extras to the film and did not make it to the movie's final cut. The film won 11 Oscars, including the award for Best Picture in 1998, and many fans are claiming that if this scene had been kept in the final edit, it would have flopped at the academy awards. One commenter argued, “That ending prob would've stripped noms for picture, director, editing, maybe score, and most tragically Gloria Stuart's supporting nom. Hell, omitting the scene is worthy of the editing Oscar!”
