It seems as if there are almost too many options when it comes to hair dryers. Differing technologies, designs and pricing can be confusing, so deciphering exactly what you need is a good place to start. Whether it’s speed or a smoothing effect, portability or a tool that will withstand four family members using it daily, there’s something for everyone – and finding the right one can mean the difference between wasted money and a worthwhile investment.

Specifications

RRP: £99.99

Temperature settings: 4

Speed settings: 3

Power: 2000W

Weight: 547g

Cord length: 2.7m

Features: "Nanoe" technology, oscillating quick-dry nozzle, 3 attachments

Hailing from one of the leaders in technology – not only in terms of the best hair dryers but generally – the Panasonic EH-NA67 is a dryer that claims to be for the whole family. Suitable for children and adults, it features an oscillating quick-dry nozzle to reduce hot spots on the scalp and speed up drying time.

Although it looks a little strange, thanks to its Nanoe technology outlet (more on this later) it’s racked up rave reviews online with parents claiming to love its features. Let’s see how it fares.

Our contributing beauty editor's Panasonic EH-NA67 Enrich + Family Care Hair Dryer review

Our first impressions of the Panasonic EH-NA67 Enrich + Family Care Hair Dryer

At first glance, this is a big, chunky hair dryer. The design features a big hump on the top of the barrel, where its "Nanoe" technology outlet is. This looks unusual but I do like its sturdiness. It’s not an aesthetically pleasing tool by any means, but it does look professional, like the kind of hair dryer you’d find in a salon that has to withstand 20 blow dries a day.

Included with this hair dryer are three different attachments: a diffuser, a concentrator and a quick-dry nozzle. Often, hair dryers are sold without extra nozzles, so this is particularly useful if you’ll be using this one on the whole family and varying hair types need to be styled differently.

When you’re holding this hair dryer, it feels a little top-heavy. Upright, it swayed in my hand and needed a firm grip, which you might find uncomfortable if you have thick hair that takes a while to dry, i.e you’re holding the dryer above your head for a long time, or if lots of little ones need their hair drying.

How does the Panasonic EH-NA67 Enrich + Family Care Hair Dryer perform?

On full power and maximum heat, this hair dryer definitely dries hair quickly. My mid-length hair was completely dry in minutes, but attaching the quick-dry nozzle sped up the drying process considerably. The oscillating feature of this attachment meant my scalp felt comfortable and free from hot spots, but its back and forth motion means the dryer tends to wobble in your hand – adding to its tricky manoeuvrability. This and its considerable weight meant my arm definitely ached a little after trying to give myself a big, bouncy blow dry. Each nozzle attachment adds length to an already bulky tool, which means you have to hold your arm further away, something that also feels slightly uncomfortable.

When the machine is at full power it’s pretty noisy, so it's far from one of the quietest hair dryers, but my hair felt smooth, shiny and healthy after each use. Blasting my hair dry with my regular hair dryer, which I do most days, can sometimes leave my hair feeling brittle, but that wasn’t the case with the EH-NA67. It would certainly be suitable for very young children with fine hair and sensitive scalps where parents don’t want to risk damage.

One feature I really loved was how instantaneously the cool shot button delivered cooler air (an area where lots of hair dryers can fall down), as this speeds up the overall drying time considerably. I wasn’t left hanging around waiting for it to swap settings, it feels cool straight away.

How does the Panasonic EH-NA67 Enrich + Family Care Hair Dryer compare?

With an impressive four temperature settings, three power settings and three attachment choices, this hair dryer is great for customising your blow dry and adjusting for use on the whole family. It gives you fantastic control and delivers on drying speed.

As mentioned earlier, it also features Nanoe technology, whereby water particles penetrate the hair cuticle to restore moisture, reduce frizz and prevent heat damage – something Panasonic claims is far superior to ion technology. I can’t say I noticed a huge difference to my hair from this feature, but it certainly didn’t feel damaged after each use.

Where this hair dryer really stands out is its speed. My hair dried far quicker than with other tools I’ve tested in the past which would appeal to large families or wriggly children reluctant to sit still for longer than a few minutes.

Should you buy the Panasonic EH-NA67 Enrich + Family Care Hair Dryer?

If you’re searching for a hair dryer to suit your entire family, I’d highly recommend this one. It’s a fantastic machine that speeds up drying time, eliminates hot spots on the scalp and comes with plenty of customisable settings as well as a long cord.

Where I prefer other hair dryers is the sheer size and weight of the EH-NA67. It’s bulky, top-heavy and hard to manoeuvre. Travelling with it might mean you need a bigger suitcase as it’s definitely not a compact design! Plus, it’s also not the most aesthetically pleasing of hair dryers and looks a little strange. At nearly £100, I’d expect something more premium looking, but on the whole, it’s functional if lacking a little foresight.

Arguably its most famous product is the all-in-one dryer and diffuser, a pretty and travel-friendly hair drying tools – but it also makes a contender for one of the best travel dryers, too.

So, how does its travel dryer stack up against its competitors? Drawing on my experience as a beauty editor who has tested most of the options on the UK market, ahead I’ve shared my in-depth review of this foldable dryer’s designs and capabilities.

Our contributing beauty editor's full Bellissima Italia B-Travel Hair Dryer review

Our first impressions of the Bellissima Italia B-Travel Hair Dryer

The Bellissima Italia B-Travel Hair Dryer’s packaging is barely bigger than a shoebox; inside you’ll find the dryer folded inside its carry case. The whole thing is nice and compact. Size-wise, it’s just 21cm long – larger than the tiny Amika Mighty Mini Dryer, but still won’t take up much space in a holdall.

I’ll admit, the metallic case isn’t to my personal taste and doesn’t feel the most premium; a little at odds with the chic black-and-gold tool itself. But given that there are other travel dryers that cost more and don’t come with this handy add-on, it’s hardly a major sticking point. Plus, there’d be room to squeeze a couple of mini hairstyling products in there. All in all, my first impressions of this sturdy little travel dryer were pretty good.

How does the Bellissima Italia B-Travel Hair Dryer perform?

My hair is medium to fine in terms of thickness and I have a lot of it, but this dryer managed to dry my hair fairly quickly by my standards. It’s worth flagging here that I never really style my hair with a hair dryer alone. Rough drying my curly hair just creates unwanted additional volume and frizz, and I don’t have the skills of a hairdresser to use a separate brush and create a smooth, well-styled blow dry. I’d always have to follow with something like the best hair straighteners to get results that I like. Otherwise, I’m a 2-in-1 dryer and styler woman.

That said, I was genuinely impressed by the smooth finish this Bellissima model created in my hair, especially given its texture. My strands were left feeling soft and, thanks to the concentrator nozzle, wasn’t fluffed around too much. This attachment is also nice and narrow, adding to that level of control. I’d happily take this dryer abroad where I couldn’t use my trusted Dyson Airstrait (which can’t be used with a travel adapter and doesn’t have dual voltage) – though I would feel the need to straighten it.

How does the Bellissima Italia B-Travel Hair Dryer compare?

Travel hair dryers tend to be smaller by design, as well as packing less power in order to work across different voltages. As travel dryers go, Bellissima Italia’s is pretty good at 1400w, matching that of the ghd Flight+ Travel Hair Dryer and outperforming Amika’s. More powerful options exist, like the Drybar Baby Buttercup Dryer, but they’re significantly more pricey.

I’ve mentioned already that the case doesn’t feel super luxurious; the one that comes with ghd’s feels more sturdy and premium, for example. But, again, given that these price tags are often significantly more than this Belissima model’s, you’re getting a pretty good deal here.

Should you buy the Bellissima Italia B-Travel Hair Dryer?

If you always diffuse your hair and can spend a little more, the all-in-one Diffon Dryer would probably be a better match for any trips that wouldn’t require dual voltage. Otherwise, this compact dryer is up there with the best. As for why you should choose this dryer specifically, if your hair is frizz-prone and you don’t love the thought of a travel dryer but want to take a punt at one for holiday drying, I think this will give you one of your best chances for attaining that smoother finish. And for £49.99, it’s incredibly reasonably priced as travel dryers go.

As someone who washes their hair daily, I can’t stand it when my hair dryer isn’t up to scratch. Weak airflow and fluctuating temperatures are some of my biggest bugbears, so when a dryer needs testing I’m always ready to put it through its paces. Will it make my arm ache? Will it fry my hair? Will it still leave my strands slightly damp after 15 minutes at full power? All are questions I’d ask before purchasing a new machine – and that I sought to answer with this T3 Fit Compact Hair Dryer review.

Starting life as a passion project, T3 founder Kent Yu wanted to help his dissatisfied girlfriend by creating a new hair dryer. Now, 20 years on, the brand has amassed a huge following thanks to its innovative designs – covering some of the best hair dryers and styling tools – and premium appeal.

It might be small and light but with enough power to rival a full-size hair dryer at 1600W, the Fit is certainly not to be underestimated. But, does it live up to its brand’s glittering reputation? I had to find out.

Our contributing beauty editor's full T3 Fit Compact Hair Dryer review

Our first impressions of the T3 Fit Compact Hair Dryer

Opening up the box, it’s almost shocking how small this hair dryer is. Due to its size, I was really able to get the hair dryer into my roots which is such a huge plus if, like me, you’re wanting to add volume to your hair and use a round brush to style. The light design means I could hold it over my head for a long time without aching and it never felt cumbersome or tricky to move around.

Built into the machine is IonAir technology, to smooth frizz, reduce damage and encourage shine and it definitely delivers on this. My hair felt silky and healthy from root to tip. It was gentle enough to dry my hair without burning my scalp but had enough ‘oomph’ in it for a speedy blowdry. It’s a reasonably quiet machine too, but I wouldn’t say it’s noticeably quieter than other hair dryers I’ve tried.

There is one aspect that I found disappointing with this hair dryer and that’s its cool shot button. It doesn’t provide airflow at a cooler temperature immediately when you press it. Instead, it limply switches from hot to lukewarm air. This is something that will bother those looking to "set" their style in place or boost shine with a shot of cold air.

How does the T3 Fit Compact Hair Dryer compare?

Of course, there are cheaper hair dryers to choose from and the T3 Fit is at the higher end of the market. But what you’re really paying for is the power of a standard hair dryer with the convenience of a much more compact design. It’s miniscule, but still carries the same amount of settings as a full-sized option and for that I’d say it’s worth the extra spend.

If you’re a seasoned traveller and want to save room in your suitcase, you’ll love how petite and light this tool is. As with lots of hair dryers, bringing it with you while abroad can mean sacrificing space in a packed case or compromising on efficacy, but that’s not the case with the T3 Fit. It allows you a salon-worthy blow dry and room for that extra pair of shoes.

One drawback of the Fit is that it’s a single-voltage hair dryer. You’ll need around 220-240V for it to work in the UK, but this can differ when abroad. Most travel hair dryers take this into consideration and offer dual voltage, but it’s sadly lacking in this design.

Should you buy the T3 Fit Compact Hair Dryer?

If light and compact is what you’re looking for, the T3 Fit makes an excellent choice. It’s powerful, dries hair efficiently and reduces frizz. It has a premium feel, looks elegant and fits into a suitcase with ease. Plus, its 2.7m cord makes it a lot easier to reach a mirror if the socket is on the other side of the room.

On the other hand, if you want a hair dryer with an effective cool shot that reduces temperature quickly, you need extra attachments or you’re after a dual voltage machine, this may not be the right one for you.

According to ghd, the foldable travel dryer packs 78% of the Air’s power into its smaller design.

So, how well does it perform in reality? Our contributing beauty editor has put it through its paces in this full review, taking you through the specs and the user experience to help you decide if it’s the right travel hair dryer for you. So it’s no great surprise that this extends to unboxing the Flight+ Dryer for the first time. Inside you’ll find the tool in its carry case, along with the accompanying concentrator nozzle, plus the instruction leaflet. It’s all very chic and fuss-free.

The dryer itself is a very lightweight tool – less than 500g, to be more precise – which is all the more impressive when you remember the fact that it is only 22% less powerful than the Air. Unusually, the concentrated nozzle attachment is made from translucent tinted plastic, which feels somewhat at odds with the premium feel of this and its other tools. But, overall, first impressions are pretty good and on par with the brand we know and love.

How does the ghd Flight+ Travel Hair Dryer perform?

As you’d expect, the Flight+ doesn’t emit as powerful airflow as the ghd Helios Dryer or Air models (2,200w and 2,100w respectively). But it’s not such a difference that it feels like it’s adding a great number of minutes onto the overall time of your blow dry.

My hair has a loose, ringlet-y curl pattern and is very frizz-prone, so I don’t rough dry my hair when I’m styling it myself. My at-home blow dry skills are also nowhere near those of a hairdresser’s – they are trained professionals for a reason – so I would always use a second styling tool, like straighteners, after a hair dryer to smooth things out. (I usually use a time-saving 2-in-1 tool, like the Dyson Airstrait or Shark FlexStyle.)

In other words, a hair dryer is more of a functional tool than a final styler for me when I’m at home – but I still want it to leave my hair feeling soft and with as little extra frizz as possible. Thankfully, ghd lived up to its reputation and got my hair dry without frying it of all life. The concentrator nozzle could be narrower, but it allowed for a little more precision when drying my hair in sections and left my strands feeling pretty soft.

How does the ghd Flight+ Travel Hair Dryer compare?

As for how it compares against its competitors, pretty well. The price is a considerable investment for a travel hair dryer; that ghd tech comes with an RRP of £99 (though it’s often on sale for less). This is more than most – if not all – of the travel hair dryers on the market. But it shows in a couple of areas that give it an undeniable edge.

Cold shots might be commonplace on the best hair dryers, but they actually aren’t a given on a travel model. Thankfully, the Flight+ is equipped with a cold function, even if it is only with a lower speed setting and not a separate button that chills down whatever heat and speed setting is currently programmed in.

The travel case is also one of the smartest cases I’ve seen accompany one of these hair dryers. It’s been improved over the years, too; the older ghd Flight came with a rounded zip case that, while sturdy, didn’t feel as chic. This newer version also features a handy shoulder strap; I’m not sure you’d ever carry your hair dryer on its own with your other possessions in a bag, but it’s nice to have all the same.

Should you buy the ghd Flight+ Travel Hair Dryer

Overall, the ghd Flight+ Hair Dryer is a decent tool. This really comes down to what you want from your travel dryer. If you want to spend as little as possible and only need to rough dry your hair, there are models that cost considerably less and may do you a good enough job. They just won’t feel as premium as a ghd tool. So if you know you are going to buy a travel hair dryer of some description and you have a decent budget to play with then, yes, I think you’d be happy with the ghd Flight+. It’ll give you considerably more professional feeling results than a hotel room hair dryer, that’s for sure.

After interning at ELLE's beauty desk, Fiona joined woman&home as Assistant Beauty Editor in 2013, working under industry legend Jo GB, who taught her everything she needed to know (clue: learn about ingredients and apply extreme cynicism to marketing claims). She has since covered every corner of the industry, interviewing dermatologists and celebrities from Davina McCall to Dame Joan Collins, reporting backstage at Fashion Week and judging the w&h Beauty Awards.</p><p>In a previous life, Fiona studied journalism back home in bonnie Scotland and honed her skills as a features writer at publications including Junior and Prima Baby, with a brief and terrifying stint on the showbiz pages of a tabloid newspaper in between. She's a skincare fanatic who can’t resist adding an extra step to her routine, adores fragrance, has fun with makeup and never turns down the chance to test a new hair tool. Basically, she loves it all. When not slathering herself in self tan or peering at a tiny ingredients list on a moisturiser, you’ll probably find Fiona enjoying something to do with food - cooking it, eating it, cajoling her friends into traversing London to try a hyped pop-up in a dirty car park. </p><p>Come to think of it, the hot dinners and beauty products are probably about even. </p> </dc:description>

Picking a hair dryer is like choosing a romantic partner. Bear with me. Heat styling tools are some of the longest relationships we have, beauty-wise. We invest in these devices, considering whether they are compatible with our hair type and interacting with them daily. We want something kind, but also a bit sexy and trust, above all else, is essential. As anyone who's been 'burned' in the past by a reckless hot tool (ahem) will know.

Because of this, the stakes are high when picking out your ride-or-die dryer. But if there is one device I'd happily set any friend or family member up with, it's the ghd Helios. Not only does this model top the table in our list of the best hair dryers, but its irresistible combination of smouldering looks and reliable practicality earned it a glowing ghd Helios hair dryer review from yours truly.

What's more, this high-tech dryer currently has a not-insignificant 25% discount on Amazon, ahead of the retailer's Prime Big Deal Days.

Get 25% off now
ghd Helios Hair Dryer: <del>was £179</del>, now £134.99 (save £44.01) | Amazon

Get 25% off the ghd Helios Hair Dryer, a tool that offers total styling control and hair health benefits for added shine. That's an easy one to answer. As with almost everything ghd creates, from the best ghd straighteners to blow-dry brushes like the ghd Glide, the Helios is a perfect coming together of form and function.

It looks great, as you can probably see, and comes in an array of colourways so you are bound to find one that you love and/or matches your bedroom. Although it's the sophisticated plum with rose gold detailing that's on discount right now, along with the ultra-glamorous champagne gold for a princely £10 top-up on the plum's price.

The design is also notable considering that these days, most high-end dryers launch with a spookily similar look to a certain dryer by a certain brand (rhymes with bison). The Helios is a very light and nimble dryer - 780g to be precise - in a traditional shape. I respect the confidence of doing your own thing, not copycatting rivals. ghd is better than that.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

ghd Helios Hair Dryer

RRP: £179

The best thing about this dryer is how kind it is to your hair. Due to an ultra-powerful motor and slimline nozzle, you get a super-fast, controlled blow dry without resorting to extreme heat. It has ions for smoothness and a cold shot button to set styles and boost shine.

This brand is also known for making reliable, long-lasting tools so you can trust that the Helios will go the distance. Just ask my friend Leanne who's still using her 1st-generation ghd straighteners, purchased to create poker-straight sheets of hair the first time it was fashionable circa the turn of the millennium. True story.

Honestly, I really can't fault this dryer - it can do no wrong in my eyes, and even without this 25% discount it comes in at a far more affordable price than many of its luxury high-tech comtemporaries. It must be love.

Where are the best places to shop ghd Helios deals?

While retailers sporadically offer discounts on the ghd Helios, major shopping events are usually the best time to snap up a ghd Helios dryer with a discount. This includes Amazon Prime Day and Amazon Big Deal Day, as well as November's Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday.

This 25% off on selected colours is unusual, but does give us an inkling that Amazon may be planning some generous discounts across ghd tools during Big Deal Days, which fall on October 8th-9th for 2024. In 2024, we saw a price reduction of £90 on the brand's popular, multi-attachment FlexStyle, which swiftly sold out - so be sure to act fast this Prime Day. Thankfully, though, our beauty team will be sharing and updating all the best savings throughout, to ensure you don't miss a stellar bargain.

As for when Prime Day is happening, the deals begin on Tuesday, the 8th of July and run until Friday, the 11th (that's four days of money-saving potential). To take advantage of the deals, you will need a Prime membership, which grants you access to the exclusive deals, Prime Video and free one-day delivery. It costs £8.99 a month or £95 annually, but there is also a 30-day free trial available to newcomers, which gives you all the Prime perks, and you can cancel anytime.

How to find the best Shark hair dryer deals

As mentioned, Shark hair dryer deals do crop up now and then; the key is knowing when and where to look for them. Luckily, our beauty team have all the intel and tricks of the trade, having devoted hours to scouting out the best savings.

For starters, sales events like Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday are a great opportunity to nab some deals on Shark's best-selling tools. Previously, the brand itself has featured Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales on its website, while retailers like Amazon, Sephora, and Argos have all also taken part - and offered discounts on Shark's hair dryers and cult-favourite FlexStyle.

It's also important to shop around. As mentioned, Shark's tools are stocked across several major retailers, from Look Fantastic to Curry's, all of whom have flash sales and deals events.

You could also go down the refurbished route. Like with Dyson's hair dryers, eBay offers certified, refurbished Shark tools, complete with their attachments (and a 1-year warranty), for a fraction of the regular retail price.

What are the positives of the Shark hair dryer?

Expanding from their renowned lineup of homeware tech, Shark has become one of the leading beauty brands in the hair tools world. With a stellar range of styling devices and accessories, including some of best hair dryers on the market.

What makes these tools especially great is their powerful designs that create salon-worthy hairstyles, without causing any unwanted heat damage. Most notably, their most popular SpeedStyle model regulates temperatures 1000x per second, ensuring it doesn’t exceed 110°C or reach damaging temperatures of 150°C. Shark’s tools are also equipped with ionisers, which actively release negative ions to keep your hair healthy and with an added shine.

With innovation comes investment-worthy price tags, more affordable tools certainly won’t offer the same level of intelligent technology that Shark does. That being said, if you’re on the hunt for a quality hair dryer that provides salon-worthy results, without damaging your strands, Shark is the shopping destination.

Which is better, the Shark or Dyson hair dryer?

Over the last few years, we’ve seen the prominent Shark vs Dyson hair dryer debate floating around, and while both are excellent hair styling tools, the true answer to the question lies with your personal hair type, needs and budget. Dyson’s tools undoubtedly boast a higher price tag than Shark’s, however after testing both tools, we found Dyson offered a slightly more gentle approach to the styling session.

Known for being the best Dyson Airwrap alternative on the market, the Shark FlexStyle tool offers both similar functions and results for a cheaper price - plus, there are some great Shark FlexStyle deals that are worth snapping up. But, if you’re looking for an in-depth comparison of the Shark FlexStyle vs Dyson Airwrap, our review gives you all the information you need to know - including which one is likely to work better for you.

What is the difference between Shark HD 110 and 120?

At first glance, the Shark HD110 and HD120 hair dryers look immensely similar, however, there are a few differences that are worth noting. The first differing feature is that the 110 arrives with two styling attachments, a concentrator and diffuser attachment, whereas the 120 comes equipped with three, a concentrator, diffuser and brush. There are also small differences between the two’s price tags, while the 110 retails for £179.99, the 120 will set you back £188. If you stumble across discounts on either model, they are certainly worth grabbing quickly as they’re not set to stick around for very long.

View the latest Shark discount codes from woman&home's voucher team to get some money off your hair tool purchases.

As someone with fine, straight hair, taming flyaways and frizz is one of my top priorities when it comes to my haircare routine. As well as finding ways to add volume and texture to my mane, one of the biggest challenges my hair poses is its frizzy ends, which are only worsened by breakages caused by years of colour-damage.

In my hunt for products that could reduce the frizz, which brought me across the best conditioners for fine hair and a life-changing frizz-busting spray, I was surprised to find a recommendation for Cloud Nine's Airshot hairdryer - which currently has £60 off.

In all my years treating my damaged, frizz-prone hair, I've always been keen to use as little heat as possible, but after reading the reviews, I was convinced otherwise. It has hundreds of positive reviews on the Cloud Nine website, many of which share the same feelings as this happy customer.

"Great hairdryer - perfect for frizzy. This hairdryer really does help with frizzy hair, normally with my old hairdryer (not cloud nine) my hair is super frizzy after and I would always have to straighten it. With the Airshot, I can just blow dry and leave it as it doesn't make my hair frizzy, love the different temperature controls and how the nozzles fit too, really nice hairdryer and would definitely buy again and would recommend, you won't be disappointed!"

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Cloud Nine 'The Airshot' Hairdryer

Stay frizz and flyaway free with Cloud Nine's Airshot hair dryer. The Airshot has three different temperature settings with 'variable temperature control' that keeps you in control of what's going on. With that in mind, it's sure to win a spot on the woman&home team's list of best hair dryers for fine hair once it goes through rigorous testing.

Used alongside the best shampoos for fine hair, I'm hoping to get some serious volume using the lower temperatures as I'm not scared to focus in at the roots and cause damage thanks to the temperature settings.

The Airshot already has a 4.7/5 star rating, with shoppers raving about it online. One reviewer, a 35 to 44-year-old woman, said of the Airshot: "I am really very impressed with this hairdryer. My hair is so smooth and straight. Normally it goes frizzy and I have tonnes of flyaways. It's even better than when I get it blown dry at the hairdresser."

Thus, Viola says it's best to try and remove any strands after every use - to prevent too much build-up.

To do this, Viola says: "Simply use your fingers or a tail-end comb/brush - like the Drybar Texas Tease - to gently lift out any unwanted hair."

Richardson also suggests carefully using, "nail scissors or the handle of a tail comb to gently and effectively remove any hair tangled around the tool," but reminds us to take out time to ensure 'thorough removal.'

You can also use the tip of the scissors or a small tool to, "carefully dislodge any build-up or gunk accumulated in the vents of the styling tool," as this, Richardson explains, "helps maintain proper airflow and prevents potential overheating issues."

3. Use a toothbrush

Another trick Viola recommends is using a toothbrush, "to remove any trapped lint particles or dust," adding that: "This can be used dry or slightly damp to eradicate more stubborn patches of debris."

4. Use a damp cloth

For the final flourish, Viola suggests wiping down your tool with a, "lightly damp microfibre cloth," before noting that, "Rubbing alcohol can be added to the cloth for an extra deep clean to help eliminate bacteria and germs."

Richardson also advises using a damp cloth - damp not soaking wet - to "gently wipe down the bristles of the styling tool. Work meticulously between the bristles to remove any residue or dirt. Remember, gentleness is key to avoiding damaging the bristles.

"Then take a dry cloth and carefully wipe away any remaining moisture or water droplets from the styling tool. Ensuring that the device is completely dry is crucial to prevent water from seeping into the motor, which could lead to damage."

5. Let it air dry

"Allow the styling tool to air dry naturally for a few hours before considering its next use. This allows any moisture to evaporate fully, ensuring the safety and optimal performance of the device," says Richardson.

And a PSA to all styling tool owners, Richardson says: "Never drop a hot styling tool in water, as this can irreversibly damage the motor," and reminds us to, "Always wait for the device to cool down completely before cleaning."

Our go-to hairdryer brush staples

Now we know how to clean our blow-dryer brushes, here are a few staples to shop...

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Drybar The Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush

RRP: £125

Ranked highly on our list of best hairdryer brushes, the Drybar Double Shot acts as a two-in-one styling tool, utilising ionic technology to minimise the appearance of flyways and promote shine, while the rounded brush boosts volume.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Drybar Texas Tease Teasing Brush

RRP: £18

Not only is this a great styling tool to have in your arsenal but it's also handy for cleaning your blow-dryer brush. First up, it was the Dyson Supersonic that led the way with a sleek smaller design in 2016, with the Shark Style iQ following in 2021. The Zuvvi Halo Hairdryer followed in early 2022, with the mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer arriving later that same year. By that point, it was no surprise to see that it was smaller than your average dryer – but also, interestingly, much narrower.

If you’re not yet familiar with the man behind the brand, allow us to catch you up. Mdlondon is the brainchild of renowned hairdresser Michael Douglas and the name of both his salon and hair tool brand. With more than 35 years of experience in the industry, there’s very little he doesn’t know about hair. When he’s not working with big-name brands or sharing hair advice on his Instagram channel, he’s styling the (impressively glossy) hair of his girlfriend Davina McCall.

Douglas’ aim with mdlondon is to demystify the world of hairstyling, giving uncoordinated mortals like me the tools they need to achieve salon-worthy hair at home, without spending hours styling or ending up deflated and with arm-ache. Let’s see if he’s managed it, eh? Read on for everything you need to know about the mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer…

Our contributing beauty editor's full mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer review

RRP: £195

Added extras: Short nozzle, long nozzle

Weight: 360g

Power: 1600W

Cable length: 3 metres

Warranty: 3 years

Our first impression of the mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer

The mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer (Image credit: Jess Beech)

As I’ve already mentioned, the mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer is much smaller than you’d expect, based on traditional hair dryers. But that’s not to say it’s flimsy; it still feels robust. It’s also ‘T’ shaped, so the weight and shape are evenly distributed between the front and the back. Not only does this make it easier to store (a big pro if, like me, you don’t have much space for beauty gadgetry), but combined with the innovative shape, this also makes the styling process much more straightforward. One, it’s easier to manoeuvre into different positions (like switching from the front to the back of your head) and two, it’s also really light – meaning there’s no arm-ache by the time you’ve finished. It’s the perfect size for travel too, so you don’t have to invest in a second, holiday-only dryer or put up with the annoyance of trying to use something that’s attached to the wall.

Aesthetically speaking, it’s sleek and simple, making for a tool that you’d happily have on display. And instead of your classic black, it’s available in a choice of three eye-catching colourways (blue, blush and green) all of which are finished with gold accents.

In the box, you’ll also find two attachments. There’s a smaller, shorter nozzle which Douglas recommends for styling “fringes, quiffs and short hair”, plus a longer one which is ideal for styling larger sections of hair without compromising on a sleek finish. These attachments are described as magnetic but they don’t simply attach via magnetic force and still need to be clipped on. The magnets are there to attach them extra tightly, meaning they’re impressively secure. Although it’s not included with the dryer as standard, there is also the option to buy an additional diffuser attachment for £25.

How does the mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer perform?

Beauty Editor Jess before (L) and after (R) using the mdlondon BLOW Hairdryer (Image credit: Jess Beech)

I know you shouldn’t judge a tool by its size, but I'll admit there was part of me that thought this might only be as good as a travel hairdryer rather than one to knock my beloved Dyson Supersonic off the top spot.

First things first, it’s easy to turn on (just press and hold the button on the side) and adjust the settings between a choice of three airflows and three temperatures. I flitted between them all a bit to begin with, finding the highest speed and middle heat settings worked best on my thick, naturally curly and frizz-prone hair. The buttons are quite reactive, so be mindful of this when holding the tool so as not to accidentally change them.

I’ve used this dryer both after leaving my hair to air dry for an hour or so and when it’s straight-out-of-the-shower sopping, and it works just as well in both scenarios. Though small, it feels mighty, with a comparable amount of "oomph" to its full-sized counterparts – while remaining one of the quietest hair dryers we've ever used. My hair felt soft and smooth after use, rather than dry or rough, which I’ve taken as an indication that it’s kind to my strands rather than frazzling them. There’s a cool shot, too, which is great for sealing your finished style.

The mdlondon dryer's narrow shape means that precision styling comes as standard even if you’re not using the nozzles, which is great for someone like me who’s aiming for a sleek and controlled finish. These attachments also haven’t fallen off once for me during styling – not even when I accidentally dropped the dryer. The only slight downside is that it takes a bit of welly to remove them, so switching between them isn’t an entirely seamless process.

Now, if you looked at my before and after photos and thought the finish could be glossier or smoother, let me put it on record that I don’t have the kind of hair that ever looks "salon-worthy" after styling with a hair dryer alone. Even my hairdresser, who is brilliant, relies on the straighteners to add shine. What I am looking for is a reduction in frizz, sleek lengths and smoothed out curls – all of which the mdlondon dryer delivered.

It’s not relevant to the performance, but I also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that, thanks to a reverse motor at the back, the mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer is also self-cleaning. That means no tell-tale burning smell a couple of months into regular use, and no need to tediously pick fuzz out of the filter. It's a small but helpful pro – and just another way in which it saves us time.

How does the mdlondon BLOW Hair Dryer compare?

Criticising the mdlondon Blow Hair Dryer feels like nit-picking, because there’s really very little I didn’t like about it. As mentioned, the attachments take a bit of effort to get on and off, and I have found myself accidentally changing the temperature settings with my hand during drying. But other than that, there’s nothing to complain about here.

Of course, at £195 it’s still very expensive for a hair dryer – but when you compare it to £329.99 for the Dyson, it doesn’t feel quite so eye-watering. There is the benefit of a three-year guarantee, too, which is generous and does reassure you that it's a tool that’s built to last rather than one that will give up the ghost after a year.

Should I buy the MD London BLOW Hair Dryer?

I think the thing I love most about the mdlondon Blow Hair Dryer is that it doesn’t over-promise with big claims about a huge reduction in drying time or eliminating damage like other tools do. It simply quietly and confidently makes the process faster, more efficient and considerably easier.

The branding all feels very personal and helpful, too, with QR codes included on both the box and the instruction leaflet that take you straight to a video of Michael himself explaining how to make the most of this tool. It’s a nice, thoughtful touch and one that makes it feel like you’re not just buying a hair dryer, but benefitting from the expertise of a pro hairdresser, too.

Overall, if you’re looking for a new hair dryer that will dry your hair more quickly, that won't take up huge amounts of space in or on your dressing table and that will look good in the process, you can stop searching, because mdlondon's is the answer.

Hair dryers are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Not only are there many different hair types, we know women's hair changes with age and so each will need a dryer to suits their individual needs. For fine hair particularly, a hair dryer can work wonders for adding volume and shine, but too much heat and/or power can quickly result in deflated, damaged hair.

When it comes to the best hair dryers for fine hair, the woman&home team has tested a lot to try and find the most efficient, non-damaging hot tool to help preserve the fragility of fine hair health, particularly as it matures. And we've found the best products have several speed and heat settings, and a funnel attachment to concentrate both in the correct ways.

One of our favourite tried-and-tested hair dryers for fine hair is the Shark Style IQ Iconic hair dryer – and it has £60 off today. While testing the product for woman&home, beauty journalist Emma Stoddart said: "Powered by iQ Technology, this Shark hair dryer uses speed over force to generate a constant flow of ionized air that dries fine hair quickly with minimal damage. The results? Smoother, shinier strands. You can also take control of the dryer with three temperature and airflow settings, and even the highest heat doesn't feel searingly hot."

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Shark STYLE iQ Hair Dryer & Styler | RRP: <del>£199.99</del> £139.99 at Amazon
Tried and tested, this Shark hair dryer is great for helping fine hair stay healthy and look good. One posted a month ago, from a lady name Suzanne in the 55-64 age range reads:

'What a fantastic hairdryer, just what I needed. I have post menopausal hair which is thinning and very brittle and dry at the ends. I have used this dryer twice and already my hair seems so much better especially at the ends, it actually looks smoother without stray brittle flyaway ends sticking out. I am learning all the correct ways to use each attachment so things can only get better. <dc:description> <p>Group Beauty Director Sarah Cooper-White has almost 20 years experience as a beauty journalist. She has written for many well known national magazines, newspapers and brands including Woman &amp; Home, Woman, Woman's Own, Woman's Weekly, Boots, Tesco, ELLE, InStyle, The Mirror, The Sun, Prima and Top Sante.&nbsp;</p>
<p><br></p>
<p>Sarah's love for beauty started at a young age when she used to make up her own face masks and 'perfumes' in the kitchen made from herbs and flowers she'd grown in the garden! As a student she often blew much of her student loan on Ruby &amp; Millie make-up and Lancome skincare and her signature look was a sparkly eyeshadow, even in the daytime (it was the 90s!).&nbsp;</p>
<p><br></p>
<p>But it wasn't until her first proper job in magazines, as the Features Assistant at ELLE magazine, where she realised you could actually BE a beauty journalist and there and then she decided that was the job for her. Since then she's met hundreds of talented and inspiring people from hairstylists and dermatologists to biochemists and aestheticians and loves passing on their incredible knowledge through her writing.&nbsp;</p>
<p><br></p>
<p>The power of beauty, whether it be make-up, haircare, skincare or fragrance, to make someone feel more confident, happier and generally better about themselves fascinates Sarah and she's a strong believer that beauty and self care is not a frivolous thing but essential to better mental health, empowerment and confidence.&nbsp;</p>
<p><br></p>
<p>After being diagnosed with skin cancer in her 20s, Sarah developed a passion for skincare and is constantly on a quest to educate people about the importance of looking after their skin. She'll never say never to Botox but believes that a good skincare regime (as well as staying out of the sun) is one of the best investments you can make for your future self.</p> </dc:description>

It would be easy to look at the Shark Style iQ Hair Dryer as another vacuum cleaner brand jumping on the hair tool bandwagon. But since its launch in late 2021, the Shark Style iQ Ionic Hair Dryer & Styler has steadily grown a fanbase of beauty consumers and experts alike. So what is it about Shark's tool that's made such a splash?

If you’re in the market for the best hair dryer, you may have already heard about the Shark blow dryer, or, to use its full name, the Shark STYLE iQ Ionic Hair Dryer & Styler. There's no denying the shape and style of this hair dryer are distinctly reminiscent of the coveted Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, however, while its price tag sits it at the top end of the market, Shark's iteration is significantly cheaper – appealing to those with smaller budgets for a new hair tool.

Specifications

Added extras: Diffuse, concentrator nozzle and style brush (Editor's note: We tested the bundle which comes with the first two attachments)
Weight: 730g
Watts: 1600W
Cord length: 2.5m
Warranty: 2 years
RRP: £179.99 (2 attachments), £199.99 (3 attachments), £249.97 (3 attachments plus the AirWave)

Putting the Shark Hair Dryer vs Dyson Supersonic debate to one side, the Style iQ boasts many of its own unique features such as intelligent attachments, a compact design and concentrated airflow. But is it the dryer for you? Woman&home's Group Beauty Director, Sarah Cooper-White, and Beauty Editor, Fiona McKim, tested the model to bring you all the intel you need to make a decision.

Our beauty team's Shark Style iQ hair dryer review

The Shark hair dryer we tested for this review (Image credit: Fiona McKim)

What's the Shark hair dryer design like?

Pros: Neat design, smaller than the Dyson Supersonic

Cons: Quite heavy

On first impression, the shape of the Shark Style iQ Hair Dryer feels inspired by the Dyson Supersonic. It's got a small, compact and circular head while the motor is contained in the handle. That the attachments attach to the dryer magnetically is another similar feature.

Despite weighing a relatively heavy 730g, we found that the neat design and smaller size of the Shark dryer made it very easy to manoeuvre. The black and rose gold colourway is stylish and there are three heat settings and three airflow settings, which allow us to customise the speed and the heat to suit our hair types.

We did notice a few key differences between this model and its main competitors, however. As soon as we picked the Shark up and started using it, we noticed it feels bulkier than we expected. If, like us, you prefer your hair dryer to have a bit of weight whilst you style, then that won’t be a bad thing. It doesn’t weigh a tonne, like some of the more old-fashioned hair dryers on the market, so if you’re looking to replace an older, heavy dryer with this then you’ll be happy. If, however, you’re used to the lightweight feel of, say, the ghd Helios, then you will notice a difference.

How well does the Shark Style iQ hair dryer perform?

Beauty editor Fiona with air dried hair (L) and after blow drying with the Shark Hair Dryer (R) (Image credit: Fiona McKim)

Pros: Dries hair fast, eliminates frizz

Cons: May feel too gentle for some

In terms of the actual user experience and results, we found the powerful motor and highly concentrated airflow of the Shark Style iQ Hair Dryer to be far better than many other models in terms of drying and smoothing hair. It rough-dried the hair very speedily and did a great job of eliminating frizz.

Even with the heat and airflow both set at their maximum levels, it didn't feel overly hot or like it would damage the hair. But it did work quickly – taking around five minutes to dry a head of long, fine hair. It certainly feels gentle as you work with it, but it was missing a bit of "blast", which some users may find anticlimactic if they like to feel the power of a dryer. That said, we can imagine some people won't miss that feeling at all, particularly if they have fragile or thinning hair.

We liked the long 2.5m cord, which we found was enough to cover the distance to any mirror in any room. And while you can't really sense them working, we trusted that the ions released by the dryer were helping us create a smooth and shiny finished style.

Does the Shark hair dryer come with extra attachments?

The Shark hair dryer diffuser and precision attachments (Image credit: Future)

Pros: Nozzle and diffuser work well to enhance styling

Cons: Only two attachments are included with the basic bundle

This is probably the factor we loved most about the Shark Style iQ hair dryer. With the most basic bundle, you get a nozzle and a diffuser included, which are the two attachments that team woman&home tested. For £20 more than this bundle, you also get a smoothing brush attachment in the box. The priciest bundle option also includes this third attachment and the AirWave waving tool, which our beauty writer has thoroughly tested as part of our Shark FlexStyle review.

All of the attachments are pretty smart. In particular, the precision 2-in-1 nozzle gets top marks. There’s a little lever to change the depth of the nozzle from being fully open for rough drying to much narrower when you want to direct heat down the hair for a sleek result. In our years of hair tool testing experience, we've never encountered another model that offers this and it was extremely useful not to have to mess around with different attachments when getting to grips with how to blow dry hair with Shark's dryer.

There is also a diffuser that features adjustable prongs so you can adapt the tool to suit your hair and, cleverly, the heat is automatically adjusted when you change the styling attachment. So if you have curly hair and add use the diffuser to dry, the airflow and heat will be gentler than if you use the precision 2-in-1 nozzle.

What’s not good about the Shark Style iQ hair dryer?

Noise-wise the Shark blow dryer is slightly louder than its rivals the ghd Helios and Dyson Supersonic. Although in all fairness, that's mostly because the Dyson is so unusually quiet that, if you’re used to it, you’ll find almost any blow dryer fairly loud in comparison. But compared to many cheaper and older hair dryers on the market, the Shark still feels light years ahead in terms of noise.

The W&H Verdict

Pros: Effective, modern hairdryer that's kind to hair

Cons: Still quite expensive, might not have enough oomph for some

If you’re looking to upgrade your existing hair dryer and want to tailor your blow-dry experience to your hair type then, in our opinion, you’ll love the Shark Style iQ Ionic Hair Dryer & Styler. It feels modern, the powerful motor dries hair quickly and the intelligent stylers are a big selling point. If you want a high-end, technically advanced dryer but aren't sure if you can afford the Dyson, this is a good compromise.

The sleek design is attractive enough to display on any hair dryer stand and also makes it portable, lending itself well to travel. That said, £200 or thereabouts is still a big investment for a hair dryer. In fact, the Shark hair dryer does seem very pricey for 1600 watts when there are more powerful dryers on the market that have cheaper price tags. But power isn't everything and if you want an intelligent, kind-to-hair and premium product, this is a good investment.

Check out woman&home's latest Shark discount codes for even more money off your next purchase.

Their comprehensive Dyson Supersonic hair dryer review saw them award the innovative tool, and its handy styling attachments, with a 4.5-star rating. Taking place across Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October, it's a short event so be sure to snap something up in time.

Those wanting to take advantage of the savings will need to be a Prime Member. A membership, which grants you access to exclusive deals, Prime Video and free one-day delivery, costs £8.99 a month (or £95 annually). There is also a 30-day free trial available to newcomers, which affords you with all the perks of Prime, and you can cancel anytime.

Does Dyson do Black Friday deals?

Due to their high demand, deals on any Dyson tools are few and far between throughout the year. However, if you're looking to save some pennies on the brand's cult-status hair stylers, annual sales events, such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, will be your best bet.

In the 2024 Black Friday and Cyber Weekend deals, we spotted some huge savings across the annual sales event. Most retailers, such as Sephora and Curry's, offered a blanket £80 discount on the Dyson hair dryer - with Dyson itself offering the same discount, plus many opportunities for free gifts. However, we also noted further standout deals via Dyson's eBay outlet, with savings of up to £131. Although savings on these refurbished tools are stellar, they are also incredibly fleeting. So, if you do spot one, it's worth snapping it up before it sells out.

For those already anticipating next year's shopping event, mark your calendar as it's set to begin on 28th November 2025 and run through until 1st December 2025. While we can't predict the deals that will be on offer, we can imagine it'll be fairly similar to those from this year - which we'll be incredibly pleased with. But, we'll be sure to keep this page updated as soon as we find out, plus share plenty of other opportunities to nab the popular dryer for less.

How to find the best Dyson hair dryer deals in 2025?

After testing the popular dryer, which marked Dyson's first venture into haircare, we quickly realised why there's a buzz around the tool, thanks to its powerful, quiet, quick-drying and damage reducing nature. But, of course, it also boasts an investment-worthy price tag of £329.99 (with all its styling attachments), so any money-saving deal certainly won't go amiss.

That said, scouting out discounts on Dyson's cult hair dryer can be a gruelling task due to them being such a rarity. But, as professional shoppers, we've curated a list of our top shopping tips to help you secure the best Dyson Supersonic hair dryer deals...

Take advantage of Dyson Owner Rewards: Dyson is known for running occasional deals for its loyal customers. During Black Friday 2022, shoppers who previously purchased a Dyson product and registered it were able to enter a one-time promotional code for 20% off a new Dyson product of their choice, including the Supersonic. There's a possibility this offer will return at some point, so stay tuned.

Shop around: When it comes to shopping for an investment piece, such as this tool, looking at multiple different retailers is key to see who's offering the best deal - from discounts and free shipping to loyalty points or free styling attachments. Also, make sure to search for coupons that'll shave some extra money off. Top tip: Sephora's VIB coupons are often valid on Dyson hair tools.

Keep an eye on major shopping holidays: Your best shot at snapping up a Dyson hair dryer deal is around some of the biggest shopping holidays, such as Amazon Prime Day this July and Black Friday in November. It's worth noting that these discounts are heavily competitive, so stock certainly won't be sticking around for very long.

Consider gift sets: Dyson also offers a variety of hair dryer gift sets to choose from, such as limited edition colourways and those with handy travel cases for your tool.

Snap up a refurbished hair dryer: If discounted Dyson hair dryers are out of your budget, not to worry as the brand's helpful refurbishment centre allows you to pick up one of their best-selling tools for a fraction of their usual price tag. These stylers have been refurbished by a Dyson engineer with genuine Dyson parts, making them a great option for those not wanting to splurge on a brand new model. Unsurprisingly, they are often sold out, but you can sign up for updates to keep you in the loop with restocks.

If you're not entirely sold on Dyson's Supersonic hair dryer, it's worth considering investing in an alternative tool on the market, such as the iconic GHD Helios, which sports a more affordable price tag and is much easier to find in stock. Putting the two tools head to head in our Dyson Supersonic vs GHD Helios review, we found the Helios offers impressive, salon-worthy results at a lower price point. For those stuck on the Shark hair dryer vs Dyson debate, we also recommend the slightly less pricey Shark hair dryer as a worthy competitor for effortlessly styled locks.

How much does Dyson delivery cost?

As to how much the shipping for Dyson hairdryers will set you back varies entirely on your region and the retailer you purchase from. When shopping from Dyson themselves, you'll be treated to free standard next-day shipping in the UK when you place your order before 9pm - so, you'll have your hands on the tool in no time. However, if you're looking to schedule your delivery before 9am on a Saturday, this will cost you an additional £8.

When purchasing Dyson products via another retailer, make sure to check the retailer's website for information on their specific shipping prices and timelines. However, you'll find that many offer free shipping via coupon or with a minimum spend requirement.

Expert panel

Is the Dyson Supersonic worth the investment?

As someone with naturally curly locks, senior beauty editor, Rhiannon Derbyshire, uses the Dyson Supersonic with the diffuser attachment to add definition and hold to her strands. So, naturally, it was only wise to ask for her thoughts on the tool, she says: “The Dyson Supersonic is designed to dry without the damage, which is a non-negotiable if you have curly hair like I do”, says Rhiannon.

She adds: “I love that the set comes with a diffuser and a comb attachment (as well as a handful of others) as a standard, making it an inclusive buy. What's not inclusive, I'm willing to acknowledge, is the price. But if you can afford it (or, even better, can find it on offer), it's worth the investment. It works brilliantly on my 3A curls, drying gently but efficiently, without the crispiness.”

Digital beauty editor, Fiona McKim, also sings the praises of the Dyson Supersonice, using the tool on her long, straight hair, she says: “It's undeniably expensive, and might not be the new kid on the block anymore, but the Dyson Supersonic is worth every penny in our opinion. From the comfort you're given while you're using it to the sleek and shiny results and the healthy hair that follows (we've never had a bouncy blow-dry quite as shiny and healthy-looking!), Dyson has put thought and consideration into every aspect of this dryer. You don't need to be an engineer to understand that some incredible science is inside that handle."

View the latest Dyson discount codes from woman&home's voucher team to get some money off your haircare purchases.

Before making any big beauty purchase, most of us instinctively do some research before hitting "check out". And in the hair dryer space, the decision between the Shark vs Dyson hair dryer, two market leaders, is a popular one. There have been two new iterations of the Dyson Supersonic since it first launched in 2016, while the SpeedStyle Pro, launched in 2023, was Shark's second hair dryer release. But which one is the best investment for you? That's what this detailed guide aims to help you answer.

These two brands have historically been most associated with quality vacuum cleaners. But their pivot to haircare has resulted in some of the best hair dryers and, as such, they're synonymous with hairstyling. The woman&home team continually tests the latest hair tech innovations and, while both dryers have been on the market for a few years, we still get asked if Dyson's is worth the extra money or if Shark's lives up to the hype. Having reviewed the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer and Shark Hair Dryer, we're very familiar with both tools.

Both options deliver excellent results, but which one is best? Using our years of experience, two woman&home beauty team members plus one of our expert contributors have compared them in this thorough guide. Once you're done here, we've also assessed these brand's multi-stylers in a head-to-head in our Shark FlexStyle vs Dyson Airwrap guide. Plus, as we get closer to Black Friday, there are some decent Dyson hair dryer deals and Shark deals to be found, meaning you can save on either tool.

Current Shark and Dyson hair dryer deals

<a data-dimension112="b3c5e7df-0c02-4e64-98dd-37f288d89a3d" data-action="Star Deal Block" data-label="Dyson tools are rarely discounted, but you can usually get a good deal during Cyber Week at various outlets – and the original Supersonic bundle with five attachments is currently almost £100 off at Next. Both brands offer a range of hair dryer attachments, with different bundles available to cater to different hair types and styling preferences. The original Supersonic bundle comes with five, while the Shark bundles range from three to five.

The dryer designs look quite different – while the Supersonic is a round, hollow design, the SpeedStyle Pro is sleeker and more slimline. Both dryers also have three heat and airflow settings (low, medium, and high), which allowed for customising drying to our hair types and desired at-home blow dry looks. One thing that separates the Shark SpeedStyle, though, is its foldable design, which really impressed Group Beauty Director Sarah Cooper-White. “I really liked the nozzle, as it's narrow enough to direct airflow to smooth my fine, frizz prone hair, and also loved how it folds up into a neat little size, which is really great if you want to put it in your gym bag or take it on a night away," she says of its design.

Other than that, there is barely anything in the weight of the Dyson and Shark dryers – it literally comes down to 20g – and both tools are far lighter than many traditional hair dryers, making them easy to hold and manoeuvre. Three speed settings and three heat settings, changeable on the main handle, also make both tools super versatile in that regard.

Attachments and styling

Shark SpeedStyle Pro attachments and styling

The Shark SpeedStyle Pro 3-in-1 Hair Dryer for Straight and Wavy Hair comes with three attachments – a concentrator, a de-frizzing attachment and a smooth brush. The five attachment bundle also comes with the addition of a diffuser and round brush head, making it the better option for curly hair types – but even then, at £220, this bigger bundle is still cheaper than a Dyson Supersonic for nearly the same number of attachments. Like the STYLE iQ before it, the SpeedStyle's attachments are also intelligent, meaning the dryer automatically adjusts its heat and speed settings when you secure one on – taking out some of the guesswork if you aren't sure on the best settings.

Dyson Supersonic attachments and styling

Ergonomic and compact, we find the Dyson Supersonic a joy to use. It's comfortable to hold and the magnetic styling attachments can create an array of hairstyles and finishes. There’s a concentrator, a smoothing nozzle, a diffuser, a wide-tooth comb, a flyaway attachment and a gentle air attachment, for increased scalp care. Each one snaps on magnetically and is easy to remove – sometimes a little too easily when they knock off by accident, but we'll take it for less faff overall.

The diffuser, in particular, is real draw and is widely-regarded as one of the best tools by industry experts and hairstylists alike. Our contributing beauty editor Lucy Abbersteen has tried most of the diffusers on the UK market, but the Supersonic's is the one she chooses to use over everything else. "It has such gentle airflow and doesn't generate excess frizz in my hair," she says. "My curls are always well-defined and I know several hairdressers who deem this pairing the best for curly hair."

The diffuser can also be used to encourage a bit of a wave into straighter hair. ''For fine or straight hair types where a natural curl pattern isn’t present, I recommend bending one-to-two-inch sections back and forth into an accordion pattern and placing them into the diffuser,” Dyson Styling Ambassador Jen Atkin recommends.

Three angles of the original Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer (Image credit: Lucy Abbersteen)

Shark vs Dyson hair dryer: Performance

Shark SpeedStyle Pro technical performance

The Shark SpeedStyle Pro works quickly and dried our hair in a matter of minutes. As for results, while it packed in serious punch for a quick blow drying session, our hair was left looking visibly sleek with a polished finish. The Shark is a dryer that packs in ionic technology, meaning it emits negative ions to counter the positive ones in water. Heat is evenly distributed as a result, closing the hairs’ cuticle and removing moisture for a smoother look. It's therefore an excellent choice for anyone with frizzy hair or a curly hairstyle who likes to blow-dry it smooth.

Dyson Supersonic technical performance

Super by name, super by nature. The motor in the Dyson Supersonic is six times faster than the average hair dryer's. This high speed produces a stream of controlled air that dries strands noticeably fast without reliance on extreme heat, which is damaging to hair. We're sure anyone with a long hairstyle who usually spends ages blow-drying it will appreciate this.

Using this techy tool, to us it didn't feel as powerful as some other high-tech dryers, like the ghd Helios, for example. Instead, we got a steady stream of air delivered at a targeted angle that smoothed the cuticle without much noise (or heat). As well as reducing the overall drying time, this is one of the quietest hair dryers we've tried and our hair always looks and feels healthy after using it.

Shark Hair Dryer vs Dyson Supersonic: the woman&home verdict

OK, crunch time. In our opinion, compared to most traditional tools, the Dyson Supersonic and Shark SpeedStyle Pro hair dryers are both a cut above the rest. We're talking salon-worthy blow-dries with clever ionised technology that eliminates frizz and bolsters shine – all while cutting down drying time thanks to their powerful motors.

While the engineering that goes into the Dyson Supersonic gives it the technological edge, both of these dryers have their merits. The Shark SpeedStyle Pro packs a higher wattage than the Supersonic, so it's a good choice if powerful air for fast drying that doesn't compromise the finish of your hair is your biggest priority. It also has one edge over the original Supersonic with its intelligent attachments – Dyson's answer to this only comes with the newer Nural model. These traits have helped it win over our beauty director, so it's clearly excellent.

But we are also enamoured with the Supersonic's sleek, lightweight design and it has more attachments that are designed for a wider variety of hair types (five, versus Shark’s three). Plus, we have to give credit where credit is due; this dryer launched first and was truly groundbreaking innovation at the time. However, it is the significantly more expensive option.

So, if you have and can afford to spend the extra money, we’d recommend opting for Dyson, but if you’re looking for a more affordable model that still packs a significant punch for its styling prowess, we don't think the Shark SpeedStyle Pro Dryer will disappoint. Its easy handling and sleek design make it a brilliant tool, too.

Our expert panel

Amassed a huge 25,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, shoppers dub this affordable tool as one of the best Dyson Airwrap alternatives (which is quite a big statement, if you ask us). So, with my intrigue piqued, I made it my mission to compare this styler to the popular luxe buy, which costs close to £500, to see whether it really lives up to its hype.

Promising to suit any hair type, from curly hairstyles to those styling straight hair, I was curious to see how it fares on my poker-straight hair - spoiler, just one glance at my before and after photos proves this hair dryer brush can really work some magic. So, of course, I had to get my hands on the highly sought-after device, putting it to the test to see whether it's worth adding to your hair tools assortment. Detailing how easy the model is to use to the all-important results, here's how I got on with the fan-favourite tool...

Our beauty writer's Revlon hair dryer brush review

Revlon One-Step Volumizer design

The Revlon One-Step Volumiser (Image credit: Annie Milroy)

When it comes to design, the Revlon One-Step Volumizer differs somewhat from other hot brushes. Many other models, such as the BaByliss Big Hair Blow Dry Brush, boast a rotating cylindrical brush head, which are designed to replicate the pull-and-wrap technique of a salon hairstylist. But, I must admit, this device is a lot simpler and easier to use - both major ticks in my book.

While the brush head is on the larger side, with its diameter measuring at a sizeable 7cm, it actually allows you to work through each section of hair, styling at a fairly rapid pace - which is especially useful if you have a long hairstyle or particularly thick strands. Its non-moving, oval-shaped head helps you achieve smoothness via the flat side, while the gently rounded edges offer that signature volume and flick you'd get from a traditional blowout.

As for the bristles, they're made from a mixture of nylon pins to help detangle and tufted bristles that smooth the hair. It's worth noting that these did an excellent job at passing through my locks, without knotting and resulting in a tangled mess. The brush also boasts a cool tip at the end, meaning you have ultimate styling control and gain the maximum tension on the strands with each pass. Of course, we have to mention the colourways which arrive in teal, mint and classic pink, all of which add a more uplifting element to your hair dryer stand than your average black or grey dryer.

How well does it perform?

Beauty Writer Annie before (L) and after (R) using the Revlon hair dryer brush (Image credit: Annie Milroy)

Design is all well and good but how the tool actually performs is the most crucial part of the review. Upon first impressions, I found the hair dryer to be slightly bulky which caused me concern thanks to my little to no upper arm strength.

Much to my surprise, despite its weighty design, the tool was easy to use and manoeuvre. I started by sectioning off my damp hair and added lashings of my best heat protection spray before getting to work twisting my hair around the brush. After just 12 minutes (yes, I timed it) I was left with a respectable blowout, boasting silky smooth strands and the highly-desired classic blow dry flicks that you'd expect from a salon visit.

Cutting my usual drying and styling time in half, this clever 2-in-1 brush was both quick and easy to use. I tend to avoid washing and styling my locks in the morning, postponing the hefty task until the evenings, in order to get more beauty sleep but this tool means I can completely style my hair within 15 minutes. While it may not be that quick for everyone – like I said, I have fine, straight hair – it will save most people from using numerous tools and shave time off your morning routine.

Does it come with any attachments?

The Revlon One-Step Volumiser and its box (Image credit: Revlon)

In terms of extra attachments, the Revlon One-Step Volumizer doesn’t come with any fancy nozzles or diffusers. The box simply arrives with the brush itself and a handy instruction booklet, and while I appreciate its simplicity, this could be a negative if you like your hairdryer to offer styling versatility through snazzy gadgetry, like the Dyson Airwrap Styler or Shark FlexStyle.

On a more positive note, the Revlon hair dryer brush already comes equipped with everything you need for achieving a smooth, salon-worthy blowout. Its non-detachable brush head means there’s no wondering around which nozzle to use, no time wasted swapping accessories over and no panic because you’ve misplaced the volumising attachment.

How does it compare to the Dyson Airwrap?

Let's face it, nowadays most people want to know how any hair tool compares to the Dyson Airwrap. On a surface level, this tool doesn't bear any resemblance to the luxe tool, due to the lack of styling attachments and innovative drying technology, however I do believe it can produce similar results to using the straight, round volumising and smoothing brush heads of the Airwrap.

The design is definitely something worth considering if you're comparing these two tools. The Revlon is louder, bulkier, gets hotter and is also not as versatile. However, if you're simply looking to replicate a straight salon blow dry then, with certain brush head attachments, both the Revlon and the Dyson will create similar sleek results.

While the Revlon hair dryer brush isn't going to create bouncy Hollywood curls or smaller defined ringlets, if you're looking for a smoothing and volume-boosting effect (without the eye-watering price tag) this is a great option.

What’s not good about the Revlon Hair Dryer Brush?

Boasting 1100-watt power, the One Step Volumiser certainly packs a punch but with that comes a fair bit of noise – so if you’re used to the whisper of the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer you may find this slightly jarring. When testing I noticed that it blows out a fair bit of hot air, which, when right next to your face, can be quite uncomfortable - side note, I'd recommend using it before applying any makeup. When using on the highest heat setting, this brush can also get very warm, so rosy-cheeked girls (like me) will emerge looking like they’ve just sat in a sauna for half an hour.

As for the settings, they can be operated using a twistable ring around the base of the dryer, which makes styling a bit of a faff as it means you can't style with one hand, having to turn the tool around to try and change the settings when using it. As previously mentioned, this brush is on the bulky side and feels quite heavy compared to other styling tools I've tested – but when you consider that it’s a hairdryer and styler in one, it’s completely understandable. Speaking of, I can imagine it would take up a lot of space and weight in a suitcase if travelling, which is worth bearing in mind if you're planning to take the tool away with you.

Revlon hair dryer brush review: Our verdict

As someone with low-maintenance fine and straight hair, this hair tool was always going to produce decent results, but even I was impressed by its powerful ability. I tend to get overwhelmed by the abundance of curling tongs and luxury stylers that are available on the market, but I appreciated how straightforward this tool was to use and how easy it was to achieve results. Let's put it this way, if I can produce salon-worthy hair, then literally anybody can.

I loved the fact that this is a two-in-one dryer and styler, meaning you not only cut your styling time in half but also get more bang for your buck. I can't stress how easy it is to use, and I haven’t heard of anyone not being able to master this or having anything negative to say about the results, either. While it’s not going to give you glamorous red carpet-ready curls, it will give you your best-looking hair and yields similar slick results to those achieved with the straight brush of the Dyson Airwrap (for about an 8th of the price). It's a brilliant alternative for this attachment, but admittedly not as versatile or glam-looking.

Considering the price and its guaranteed results, I can’t think of any reason not to purchase this hair tool. Echoing the thousands of reviews online that claim it's one of the best hair tools on the market, I can vouch for the transformative powers of this dryer and styler. So if you’re after effortlessly styled, salon-worthy tresses, this absolute gem promises to have your back. I think it's most definitely one of the best hair dryer brushes around and absolutely worth the hype.
