Silent Witness season 28 has sadly now drawn to a close and has left many people wondering if there’ll be another season of Silent Witness to follow, but it’s not the only question that came to mind. As well as being drawn in by the brilliant performances and thought-provoking storylines, it’s all-too-easy to become entranced by Emilia Fox’s sensationally chic outfits as everyone’s favourite pathologist Dr Nikki Alexander. Her fashion sense within the drama is every bit as inspiring as her real-life style and we were thrilled when she wore the red floral blouse from the season 28 promo pictures in the new series.

Nikki wore this Rebecca Taylor Daniella blouse in Vanishing Point Parts 1 and 2, and although she was in Mumbai and then on a plane for most of the episodes, this outfit also screams springtime in the UK. This top had a sweeping V-neckline and elbow length puffed sleeves that had ribbon ties on the cuffs. Everything about Emilia’s blouse oozed elegance and femininity, from the silhouette to the pattern. The red tone was warm and vibrant with a hint of orange to it that worked so well with the white floral print running all over this piece.

The flowers had muted blue centres and the black leaves and stems kept the same delicacy. Although florals aren’t one of the specific spring/summer fashion trends for 2025 we all know that they have a resurgence in popularity in the warmer months and they’re so timeless. Dr Nikki Alexander is particularly partial to a floral print item in Silent Witness but in season 28 there was also a lot of knitwear and shirts, so this piece really stood out.

The combination of the red and pattern was so uplifting and vibrant which is something so many of us are looking for with our outfits as we edge closer to spring. If red isn’t for you then consider a floral blouse with a black or white base colour, but Emilia showed how to wear red florals in a non-daunting way.

In Vanishing Point Parts 1 and 2 we saw her style her red floral blouse with wide leg mid-blue jeans for a smart-casual feel. Denim looks amazing with both bright and neutral colours and so if you’re ever unsure how to wear a top like Emilia’s, a pair of jeans or a denim skirt is a good way to go. Wide leg jeans with their looser fit are so comfortable - essential for Nikki given that in the storyline she was taking a nine hour flight back to London.

They naturally feel a bit more cool and off-duty and so with a more polished, formal blouse or shirt they are a good contrast. We couldn’t see what shoes Emilia’s character wore in the show or promo pictures, but everything from heeled boots to trainers and ballet flats would work. She also had a black tailored blazer with her that she wore at some points as an extra layer and the structure was wonderful against the flowy top.

To wear an outfit like this now we would throw over a thick cardigan and wear it with boots and a longline coat to keep us cosy until spring arrives.

Cat finished off her outfit with an autumnal pair of warm red-brown toned boots, with a walkable heel and sleek pointed toe creating a chic and streamline look that juxtaposed the wide-leg fit on her jeans.

At this time of year white jeans outfits really come into their own and add an instant summery feel to an outfit, however not everyone is a fan of wearing denim in the hot weather. White jeans can also be tricky to style, but Queen Mary of Denmark has showcased how white trousers work beautifully as an alternative. She went all-out in the colours of the Danish flag when she attended a reception in Paris prior to the 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony and opted for a vibrant red blouse with wide-leg white trousers. The Jesper Høvring wrap blouse had long blouson sleeves that ended in a fitted cuff, which accentuated their gorgeous drape.

The v-neckline and wrap design of Queen Mary’s blouse was elegant and the colour not only paid tribute to Denmark, but added a splash of vibrant colour into her look.

They also have handy side pockets and belt loops which Queen Mary took full advantage of as she added a slim tan belt to further accentuate the high waisted fit.

White trousers are a brilliant alternative to white jeans if you want to have a neutral outfit base that can be made more formal or casual. They can be styled in the same way as you would a pair of jeans, such as adding a vibrant top for a pop of colour like Queen Mary did. You could also wear a black top for an equally neutral contrast, or a white T-shirt or blouse for a full monochrome look. In hot weather wide-leg trousers are so comfy too, especially if they’re made from breathable cotton or linen, and they look stunning draped over flat sandals or your best white trainers for a more dressed-down approach. 

On this occasion, the Queen dressed up her outfit even more with a pair of Valentino Rockstud leather heels in a scarlet tone. She finished off her look with a tan Chloe crossbody bag, but in a clever move she decided to wear it with the strap tucked in to transform it into a clutch. We feel that Queen Mary’s full outfit was incredibly timeless and focused on putting together key staples to make a real impact which is something we can all take inspiration from. She’s been spotted watching the Olympics itself several times so far and we can’t help hoping to see a few more sensational outfits from her before the Games are over.

Carole Middleton's cornflower blue blouse from 2022 is a gorgeous alternative to the classic white shirt and is perfect for daytime.

The pintucks running down the front added a touch of detail to Carole’s blue blouse which was otherwise very minimal. Although she also loves navy and electric blue, this top was a beautiful cornflower blue and it’s a surprisingly versatile shade that Carole's worn before. A mid-toned blue like this looks lovely with so many neutrals, from white to beige and black, as well as pops of bright colours like red.

This makes a shirt like this a very wearable way to introduce colour into an outfit and it’s something a little different to the classic white shirt. Seen through one of the bubbles floating in the air in the photo, Carole was wearing gold hoop earrings that were small and subtle.

This was a classic accessory choice from her and showcased once again how skilled she is at bringing together staple pieces to create a polished final look. Although we didn’t get to see her footwear we would have finished off this outfit with a pair of the best white trainers or simple espadrille wedges.

This was a lovely smart-casual outfit from the Princess of Wales’s mum and Carole Middleton’s cornflower blue blouse was definitely the star of the show. In recent years we haven’t seen her out and about and her last, photographed public appearance was at Christmas for Kate’s Together at Christmas carol service. This called for a more formal outfit but we can’t help hoping we’ll get to see Carole showcasing another jeans and a shirt combination for a daytime outing sometime soon.
