A timeless trend that comes back like clockwork, when it comes to adding the pattern to your wardrobe this season, look for trending colourways to add a contemporary feel to your stripey bottoms. Alex Jones has been part of the BBC’s The One Show for more than 15 years, becoming known for her girl-next-door vibe and empathetic - and sometimes hilarious - interview style. Guests over the years have ranged from Robert De Niro and Elizabeth Hurley to members of the public who have made huge differences in their communities - amongst many others.

Now, the show is celebrating 20 years on our TV screens, and it’s still as successful as ever, with Alex, 49, still at the helm and clearly still enjoying every minute.

When woman&home sat down to chat with Alex, she is clear she is not slowing down, and is keen to drive forward as she approaches her sixth decade.

“It’s important to push yourself sometimes, because we can all live in our comfort zone. Whenever you get the opportunity to try something different, take it. When you get to your mid 30s, late 30s, early 40s, whatever age, people can get stuck in a rut in all ways, whether that’s with clothes, make-up or even the way we style our house. We can’t step outside and see that for ourselves. People are like onions – you can peel different layers off,” she said.

She lives in the countryside with her husband, insurance broker Charlie Thomson and their three children – Teddy, nine, Kit, seven, and Annie, four – and she admits she has had to make sacrifices, like many women, between her career and home life.

“Every woman is making some sort of sacrifice. Something always has to give. There’s got to be compromise. You can’t do everything, it’s impossible. I still find it hard that I’m not home every evening to see the kids and ask how their day was. It gives you comfort that everyone is in the same position and life isn’t perfect.

"I’ll be on The One Show, and they’ll be doing the live countdown and Charlie will be texting, saying, ‘Does Kit need a packed lunch tomorrow?’ and I’ll reply, ‘Yes! I’ll get some ham on the way home, and don’t forget to take the bread out of the freezer. I’ve got to go, the title music is on.’

"People say, ‘You’ll look back on this and hanker for these days.’ I already know how lucky I am to have kids at this age, and it’s amazing. All of the mundane stuff, the WhatsApp groups, the running around, and the 50 million water bottles you can never find lids for. I think, ‘Imagine if it was quiet in the house?’ The noise and the pace and the rhythm of it is what makes you feel vital and alive. I appreciate it so much.”

Turning 50 next year, Alex admits she is ‘aiming for at least 100’, and thinks laughter is the key to a good life. “It’s so important to have fun in life, because without fun, what’s the point? We laugh a lot as a family, and I would choose a big old barbecue in the garden with family, or drinks in the kitchen that accidentally go on until 3am, over going to a party, any time. I love being at home more than anything.

“I’ll celebrate my 50th with my family and school friends. My school friends are still my best friends, so we’ve got a couple of 50th trips planned. We are all lucky to be alive and live the lives we do, and that’s to be celebrated.”

When it comes to summer outfit formulas to wear on repeat, jeans and a striped top is Alex Jones's chic combo that's racing to the top of our list. Alex's silver Sambas were a great finishing touch. This trainer trend has been one of the biggest shoe silhouettes of 2026, and the fascination with Sambas seems nowhere near over. Her classic outfit combination, however, would also work with your best white trainers or most comfortable sandals. To complement the pattern of her suit, the colour Alex highlighted was red and she opted for a red top and pair of playful, red studded ballet flats to finish off her outfit. The simple and sleek shapes of both her top and shoes made them great choices to accessorise this look, as they didn’t overwhelm the busy, bright pattern of her suit.

I love floral frocks but it was so refreshing to see The One Show's Alex Jones giving these often-seen designs a miss on Day 1 of the Chelsea Flower Show this year. Instead, she stepped out in a gorgeous striped co-ord from British clothing brand ME+EM and a strawberry Lulu Guinness bag that couldn't fail to bring a smile to your face.

She nailed the balance of an understated outfit and a bold accessory and blended two very different aesthetics together in a way that is inspiring me for summer.

Alex's bomber jacket and matching trousers are made from an Italian tweed linen blend and the textured finish softens their structured shape and makes them feel more smart-casual. The ivory tone and faded black stripes accentuate this even more, and the jacket has that classic ribbed hem that we expect from bombers.

The presenter could easily have worn a blazer to the flower show, though this was a little cooler and more contemporary. The zip is double ended too so she could easily adjust how much coverage she wants depending on the occasion. Alex's trousers were flared and are described by M+EM as the 'leg elongator' trousers.

They have such a gorgeous effect on the frame and this is enhanced by the stripes and the matching blazer. Stripes are a pattern that's remarkably easy to style and vertical stripes like this naturally draw the eye up and down, giving that elongating look.

Wearing a coordinating top or jacket with trousers also creates that one, seamless outfit without the silhouette being broken up by a contrasting colour or design. You can put these clever tips to good use with any pattern or tone, though Alex Jones's combination of neutrals and stripes is particularly beautiful.

The pared-back design also meant she could embrace pops of colour with her accessories without it being overpowering and that's exactly what she did. Brightening up a grey day at the Chelsea Flower Show, The One Show host carried the Lulu Guinness Strawberry Basket bag.

It's a design that the brand first introduced in 2003 and it's crafted from corn straw with a cotton interior. It resembles a picnic basket full of fresh strawberries and the attention-to-detail is why this has such a luxurious price tag.

Edible plants are showcased at the show and strawberries are quintessentially British - just like the event - so everything ties together so well. The pops of red contrasted against Alex's jacket and trousers and brought playfulness as well as prettiness.

Plain accessories go with everything but sometimes a bold bag is just what's needed. You can use them to jazz up a summer wedding guest dress or a BBQ outfit, and there are so many options around right now, some featuring fruits like strawberries, cherries or lemons for summer.

"It's the perfect way to mark the show's milestone birthday, and it's even more special knowing a donation from every sale will go to BBC Children in Need, a charity we're proud to champion," Alex says.

White jeans have a reputation for being tricky to style but ivory and cream denim make great alternatives. These tones capture the same bright, summery feel without being as stark and denim-loving Alex Jones is a fan.

The broadcaster has just launched a new edit with Cotton Traders and in a video posted on Instagram she included an easy-to-copy outfit featuring a pair of £40 wide-leg ecru jeans. They’re high-rise and the cotton-rich material has some stretch to it for a comfy finish that doesn’t compromise the shape.

White, ecru and cream jeans all tend to look smarter than blue denim because they don’t have variation to the wash and so can resemble tailored trousers.

This makes them a great choice for your spring capsule wardrobe as you can lean into this and dress them up with wedges and a shirt to make a date night outfit, or make them more casual with a T-shirt and trainers. The silhouette is also something you can keep personal to you and your signature style, and Alex loves wide-leg designs.

Looser cuts are a big denim trend for 2026, though straight-leg jeans are also proving popular right now and skinny jeans will give you that classic streamlined look.

Personally, I love wide jeans like Alex’s as they’re breezy for the summer, aren’t fitted on the legs and drape beautifully over pretty much all types of shoes. With flats they’re elegant in a low-key way and over heels or wedges with just the toes peeping out they have a leg-elongating effect.

Alex went for chunky New Balance trainers and a chocolate brown brown jacket with her ecru jeans for a smart-casual ensemble. The jacket is also part of her Cotton Traders summer collection and it’s made from a linen-blend material.

As much as we might want to go jacket-free right now, spring can still be cold and lighter pieces like a trench coat or blazer are handy layers that still feel seasonal. Just like white jeans, ecru and cream options can go with any colour, but these warmer shades look especially gorgeous with tans, browns and other warm-toned hues.

"Bright white jeans can look super fresh for this time of year, but they can also feel quite difficult to style and very risky if your plans involve any food or drink. Ecru jeans are the much softer, more muted alternative that will complement lots of the spring/summer fashion colour trends 2026, and are a bit less stark than pure white," says Caroline Parr, woman&home’s Digital Fashion Ecommerce Editor.

She advises us to think of ecru jeans as a "neutral base you can build any outfit on, just like you would with blue or black jeans". This makes sense and Alex Jones has gone both pared-back and colourful in the past when she’s worn white or off-white jeans.

I particularly like her outfit from 2023 when she visited Fortnum & Mason wearing wide-leg cream jeans with a pastel pink top. The colour combination felt very spring-like and pastels against lighter denim is something you can’t really go wrong with.

The One Show’s Alex Jones has just become an Ambassador of the Royal Windsor Flower Show and she made the announcement in the most perfect way. As a regular visitor for many years, she knows all about what the annual show has to offer and she’s excited to showcase everything at the 2026 event on 6th June.

Alex recorded a video standing in front of a spectacular flowering magnolia tree to share the details and her outfit was equally spring-like. She chose a Zara green and white striped polo top and it’s amazing how useful something like this can be in a spring capsule wardrobe.

When the sun is out it can often feel too warm for thick knitwear and yet we all know how quickly a chilly breeze or cloud cover can change things.

Lightweight jumpers or cardigans are lovely for spring, especially if they’re made from a breathable natural material like cotton. They can be layered over a vest top or T-shirt on a cold day or worn without a jacket or coat when it’s sunnier.

The stripes on the presenter’s top were especially beautiful and feel-good greens are a big fashion colour trend for this year too. If this colour combination isn’t up your street, monochrome, beige and white or blue and white designs are always incredibly popular.

Stripes are one of the least daunting and most versatile patterns as they’re not too busy. Alex Jones loves light-wash jeans and although we didn’t get a glimpse of what she was wearing her polo with in the video, I think denim would be a great choice.

Add white trainers and you’re good to go, leaving the striped top to do all the talking. Alternatively, you could style a knit like hers with tailored trousers and loafers to create more of a smart-casual look. The key thing to remember if you want a very minimal, elegant outfit is to keep things relatively neutral so that the top is the focus.

Striped trousers and dresses are also stunning for spring, though I think a striped top is more understated as it’s a smaller part of an overall style. Alex Jones’s Zara knit had both vertical and horizontal stripes and this is a fun and contemporary take on the pattern.

She also loves classic vertical stripes, as we saw when she wore a pastel blue and white blouse with denim shorts in a video she posted last June. Vertical stripes are often considered to be very frame-elongating, though horizontal designs are most popular for tops and are timeless.

By the time this year’s Royal Windsor Flower Show comes around on 6th June it will (hopefully!) be far too hot to be wearing this kind of outfit but right now it’s ideal. It’s held in Windsor Great Park and offers crafts and food, as well as gorgeous blooms.

Alex will be there at the show and last year King Charles and Duchess Sophie both attended so who knows which royals she might cross paths with in her new role as Ambassador.

Outfit formulas don’t have to be complicated to be incredibly chic and Alex Jones’s checked trench and indigo jeans are the epitome of this. Spring is the time when many people throw on their best trench coats to smarten up a casual look and the structure of this style works perfectly with denim.

Dark washes are still a denim trend for 2026 after becoming popular last year and The One Show host Alex worked deep blue straight-leg jeans into her look for a trip to South Wales. Posting about the visit on Instagram, she revealed that she’d been there filming an "important and moving documentary" and had to brave "rain and hail".

Many fans are already excitedly discussing the film in the comments and her layered look was perfect for the season.

She wore the jeans with a matching deep blue jumper tucked in and this created a seamless outfit base that felt very minimal and sleek. Since her light beige Zara trench coat was already quite a bold contrast against the denim, picking a similar-toned top helped to ensure that things didn’t look too overpowering.

Darker jeans naturally feel more formal than light wash denim so they’re a great option when you want to look put-together but still be comfy and relaxed.

Alex Jones nailed this with her ensemble and her checked coat is actually reversible so she could’ve made it look even more subtle if she’d worn it with the plain beige fabric facing outwards. The Zara design is single-breasted and has classic tab details on the sleeves.

Seasonal coats don’t come much more timeless than a trench and they can be incorporated into so many different outfits, making them a great pick for your spring capsule wardrobe. Longer styles look particularly wonderful with midi skirts or dresses as well as with trousers or jeans.

For her time filming in South Wales, Alex opted for practical footwear to complete her outfit and wore lace-up brown hiker-style boots by LANX. The slightly cropped length of her jeans meant that when she was sitting down we got to see the boots in all their glory - and even got a glimpse of her pretty striped socks too!

If the weather had been warmer she could’ve gone for white trainers or even sandals instead. Because a trench and dark jeans feel polished, you can go more casual with the rest of your pieces and still create an outfit that is balanced and not too low-key.

Although this Instagram post is the first time we’ve seen Alex Jones wearing this Zara trench, she has others in her collection that she’s worn with similar items. She included a single-breasted neutral trench and dark blue flares in her spring edit with Cotton Traders and recently styled them with brown cross-strap ballet flats and a white cardigan top.

This trench and jeans combination is seemingly one of Alex’s favourite formulas for spring and given how versatile it is, I can definitely see why.

Right now warmer weather feels quite far off, but as we transition from winter to spring I’m longing to give my outfits a seasonal twist. The best way to do this and still be warm enough is through jackets. Denim jackets are classic, but they can be a bit too lightweight and I've been eyeing up Alex Jones’s checked blazer instead.

She wore it with a white roll neck, chunky belt and black midi skirt for a visit to Buckingham Palace, where she joined Queen Camilla and the judges of the BBC’s 500 Words competition. The winning stories will air on The One Show on 6th March and Alex’s outfit would work perfectly for this early spring date as well as right now.

Although it’s checked, the blazer is neutral enough to balance out any of this year’s bright spring/summer fashion colour trends. When you’re choosing outerwear the versatility of the design is even more key than it would normally be.

After all, you don’t want to pick out a jacket or coat that looks lovely, but can only be worn with a few select outfits. The pattern on Alex Jones’s blazer gives it dimension whilst still being very understated and it’s a mix of warm beige and brown tones.

Unlike a black blazer which can be too stark against lighter hues, this checked piece looked gorgeous layered over the presenter’s white roll-neck. The jacket was single-breasted with notched lapels and Alex wore it unfastened to give a better glimpse of the rest of her look.

The beauty of a blazer over other types of jacket, including denim ones, is the amount of structure. The tailored silhouette naturally feels smart and brings a level of sophistication - something that works especially well with casual pieces.

If you’re a fan of smart casual outfits, then you’re likely to be a lover of jeans and blazer outfits too as the combination of the denim and the crisp jacket is a match made in heaven. However, you can also style a blazer with more feminine, flowy pieces like skirts and dresses to incorporate contrast in a different way.

This is what Alex Jones chose to do for the final judging session of the 500 Words competition. She wore a black midi skirt with her jumper tucked in to create a smooth shape and although I can’t be sure, it does look a lot like the Boden Valentina Sateen Skirt. Alex’s skirt has a slight sheen to it and is high-waisted - a detail The One Show presenter accentuated with her chunky black belt.

Whilst belts do fulfil a practical function on jeans and trousers, they can also be added to skirts and dresses to add extra shaping like this. The gold-toned circular buckle tied in with the colours in her blazer and the longline length of the jacket meant it draped beautifully over the top of her skirt.

A pair of black knee-high boots finished off the ensemble and tied in with the overall neutral colour palette. The entire outfit is such an easy one to replicate for winter-into-spring and a checked blazer like Alex’s is incredibly versatile.

On colder days you can add a chunkier knit underneath and as it gets warmer, jeans or flowing skirts and flat shoes would make a fabulous alternative.

December dressing might seem like it's all about the Christmas party outfits and statement festive jumpers but in reality most of us are probably wearing knitwear, jeans and cosy boots a lot more often than these. Alex Jones certainly is, and whilst our Homes Writer Emily loves her charming Christmas decorations, it was her outfit that caught my eye when she posted a recent video giving a house tour on Instagram.

As she guided us around the stunning decorations bringing festive cheer to her home, Alex was wearing a bright scarlet slogan jumper, light-wash jeans and classic UGG Tasmans. They got a coveted five star rating in our UGG Tasman review and whilst some consider them slippers, the brand makes it clear they can be worn outside too.

The Tasmans are made from suede with a snuggly sheepskin lining and an EVA footbed for comfort. The braided trim around the top is what makes this UGG design instantly recognisable and Alex Jones was wearing the chestnut tone.

This is arguably the most iconic colour UGG footwear comes in and it's also very versatile. If the One Show presenter had been wearing black Tasmans with her pale jeans the contrast might've looked quite stark. Camel, tan and brown are softer alternatives that complement both dark and pale colours, making them very handy.

UGG Tasmans have a casual edge to them and this worked well with Alex's denim, as lighter washes always tend to have a relaxed aesthetic compared to indigo or black jeans. In the lead-up to Christmas having a pair of shoes that can work as boots or slippers depending on where you're going is also a big plus.

Alex Jones's outfit also felt quite seasonal because of her choice of jumper. If even chic Christmas jumpers aren't up your street style-wise, a wintery knit is a good alternative. Fair Isle and Argyle patterns have been very trendy this year, but the presenter went alpine-themed.

Her Primark jumper was emblazoned with 'Après Ski' and was bright red and white. These colours are very Christmassy, yet that's where the festive detailing ends. The slogan itself isn’t specifically Yuletide-esque and you could easily wear a sweater like Alex’s throughout January and February too.

This is why I think it’s worth investing more in a winter jumper that feels traditional and maybe has red or green elements, than you would in your average Christmas knit.

The bright shade of Alex Jones’s jumper was fun and - intentionally or not - it matched her tree ornaments. If you don’t have any idea what to wear on Christmas Day I think something along these lines strikes the perfect balance between warmth and style.

Light wash jeans and UGG Tasmans seem to be a much-loved pairing for Alex, as she’s worn them together plenty of times before. Last winter she shared several different Instagram posts where she was wearing light, wide-leg jeans with a cream pointelle crew-neck jumper and her UGGs.

It’s a formula that works for her and given how cold the start of spring can be in the UK, it’s one you can rely on for quite a few months.

The festive period is edging closer and whilst we hear so much about how to dress for this time of year, it can be tricky. You don't want to be adding loads of pieces to your winter capsule wardrobe that you can only really wear in December - Christmas jumpers I'm looking at you! Yet it is nice to nod to the season in some way and I think Alex Jones just nailed this.

She attended the annual 45 Park Lane Christmas Tree Switch-On earlier this month and wore a cranberry-red blouse from Phase Eight tucked into checked Boden trousers. The top is currently 30% off in the sale and it says 'Christmas' in an understated way.

The colour feels very festive and red and green are always very popular tones for December. It’s high-necked and has long, billowy sleeves and some delicate draping at the front. Alex’s blouse is made from satin and the sheen of this material always gives items a glamorous edge, no matter what else you pair them with.

The One Show presenter loosely tucked her top into the high-rise waistband of the Boden Chiswick trousers, which are sadly sold out.

The tartan pattern was two-tone, with navy blue and green checks making up most of the design and bright red checks on the waistband and down the side of the trouser legs. The scarlet hue tied in with her blouse and was balanced out by the muted tones.

Tartan, Argyle and Fair Isle designs always appear alongside the latest autumn/winter fashion trends in the colder months. Their traditionalism evokes a sense of cosiness and perhaps this is why there are so many patterned knits around, though checked trousers make a great alternative.

Alex Jones picked a pair that are colourful whilst still relatively easy to style and I’d recommend leaning into darker colours like she did. Navy, black, deep green and burgundy are often seen in checked clothing and each of these colours looks good with each other, as well as with neutrals.

The presenter could easily swap her red blouse for a black, white or camel jumper and it would look just as stylish throughout the rest of winter. She finished off this particular look with a pair of pointed-toe slingbacks that look like the River Island Heart Detail Court Shoes.

They’re no longer available, but this style of shoe with the brooch/adornment on the toe has been trendy in recent years and there are plenty of alternatives to pick from. There’s something about them that feels a little more fun than classic heels and yet they’re not that out-there.

Alex’s slingbacks had a glinting gold heart on the front and were black. You could also wear checked trousers and a flowy blouse with heeled ankle boots. For those who prefer skirts to trousers when they’re dressing up, a plaid midi skirt and knee high boots is another lovely option.

All of these possibilities are something a little different to holly, reindeer and Santa Claus-adorned Christmas jumpers and feel more chic and sophisticated.

Supporting someone you love through mental health struggles can be complex and multi-layered, and until you’ve been through it, it’s difficult to fully understand. Speaking recently on The Great Company podcast, Alex Jones admitted that she "found it really hard" at times to take what has become her best advice for those who are around someone who’s struggling.

The One Show host reflected that she’d thought she’d been depressed in the past - "but then I saw it and I thought, no, I haven’t". Her husband of almost 10 years, Charlie Thomson, has dealt with his own mental health issues and Alex is adamant that "you *have* to let go of judgement".

This advice can be easier said than done and the presenter confessed, "I found it really hard. I had to bite my tongue so hard from saying, ‘Come on, but… Come on, let’s go for a walk, come on’, you know, and I said to a friend, ‘Come on, let’s go for a drink, don’t be so ridiculous’."

Reflecting on her plea now, Alex was quick to admit she hadn’t understood what they’d been going through and "that’s [her] own failing". The person hadn’t been able to get out of bed "let alone put some clothes on and go for a drink".

Podcast host Jamie Laing reassured Alex that her steadfast commitment to her husband when he was struggling was admirable and spoke volumes. For her, running away or not facing things with Charlie was never an option.

She said, "I’d never run because we’ve made a deal. And we don’t run from each other. We face it all head on. And we have faced a lot of fun stuff, and we’ll face really hard stuff. And, you know, this will be life, that *is* life. It’s up and down. The other thing is, if you know that person, you know that’s… it’s an illness, it’s not them."

Highlighting the complexity of mental health once more, Alex added that if she saw it again in a family member or friend she still doesn't know "whether [she’d] do the right thing". However, she knows she now understands it more than she did.

Alex Jones’s candid remarks are incredibly personal and her advice will likely resonate with many people, whether they’ve been the one struggling or been supporting someone who is. Her husband Charlie, with whom she has three children, experienced a harrowing health ordeal in 2023 which Alex has also spoken about in the past.

"It's my husband's own story to tell, so I won't go into detail, but he suffers with his mental health and we've just been through a really bad period where, bless him, he had Lyme Disease and then he had viral meningitis. Lots of things happened recently," she declared on the How To Fail podcast.

"Charlie's super fun, but he became a shadow of himself. He was so ill, he really went downhill fast mentally," Alex explained. "And again I found myself at a loss thinking ‘Oh my God, I don't know what to do here’. We all talk a good game, but do we actually know how to help people?"

The One Show presenter attended the one year anniversary of COME ALIVE! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular wearing a pair of classic white straight leg jeans.

How to style yours

I'll admit, I am a little bit biased when it comes to this dress. When scouring the high street for what to wear to Royal Ascot, I tried on the Abi dress (pictured below), and honestly, I've kicked myself ever since for not buying it there and then.

Navy is such an easy and forgiving colour to wear, and although it's a big investment, at just under £300, this design will go seriously far in your summer capsule wardrobe.

It will work as one of the best wedding guest dresses, but team it with your best white trainers and you could wear it for a day in the office or a picnic in the park too.

If you suffer from dry skin on your body, you're not alone – The One Show presenter Alex Jones does too. And she's just shared a very simple and readily available product she says is 'the only thing that has an effect'.

Neutrogena's Deep Moisture Body Lotion was the first product Alex highlighted in a recent Instagram post detailing some of her go-to skincare products. "My skin resembles an armadillo/dinosaur. The skin is so dry after the winter that the only thing I think has an effect is this. This is Neutrogena from Boots'.

We're familiar with Alex's problem and can identify with her reptilian reference. "The extremities, such as the arms and lower legs, tend to be drier as the skin here tends to produce less oil," explains Dr Mervyn Patterson, medical director of Woodford Medical.

Dr Patterson also notes that we should "Look for moisturisers that contain barrier repair properties. Renewing the normal balance of healthy lipids in the external skin barrier helps protect us from the environment and reduce water loss from the deeper skin layers."

Alex went on to reveal a number of other go-to skincare products, including Elemis Rose Cleansing Balm for removing her make up after the show, which she says 'smells amazing.'

This turn-up detail made Alex Jones’s jeans quite contemporary, moving them beyond the 1980s and 90s associations that light-wash denim often has. Paler jeans also have a reputation for being less forgiving than darker styles, so silhouettes are key.

Wide-leg styles like Alex’s have a gorgeous drape to them that reminds me of tailoring and looks great with a more fitted top. The One Show host’s red Damson Madder blouse was tucked into her jeans and had a statement vintage-style collar and puffed sleeves.

You might initially think that a bright cherry-red top is too much with lighter denim, but actually I think that contrast is important. If I wear mostly whites and creams with pale jeans I can often find that my outfit looks a bit washed-out and one dimensional.

Styling them with a top in a deeper colour, even if that’s a neutral tone like black, navy or brown, is a clever way to make your lighter jeans pop. Red is fun for summer and always works well with blue denim, so it is worth considering introducing it in some way into your jeans outfits.

To finish off her look, Alex slipped into a pair of tanned brown boots. The colour is stunning, rich and warm and brings in a much softer, spring-like feel to the look than a pair of harsher black leather boots would have. But not only did Alex give us the ultimate antique fair outfit inspiration, she also shared her top tips for shopping at these fairs too. Like she says in the video, it's easy to get carried away with collecting bargins at these kind of events, like when she brought 12 church pews without thinking about it and has ended up keeping them in storage because she has nowhere to put them, so some tips will certainly be handy.

Picking up a vintage tennis racket, she says, "Not essential," though she admits they would look good hanging on a wall. This is a good thing to keep in mind so you don't get carried away. What do you actually need in your home and what interior design trends will compliment what you already own? If you don't need it or have somewhere it can work, what you want to buy isn't an essential - so maybe put it back.

Another trick is to stick to your shopping list. Alex was at the fair looking for a chest of drawers and a table for her hallway, so keeping these in mind helped her avoid impulse purchases that she'd end up not having room for.

And that leads onto her third tip; measure! Bring a tape measure along with you and make sure you've also measured the space you're trying to fill in your home before heading out too. Trust us, your eyeball measurements will never be right!
