With the weather turning colder and the first frosts around the corner, there are some plants in your garden that need extra attention sooner rather than later.

If you're taking plant cuttings, you'll know that they are vulnerable while they're rooting and becoming established plants. Which is why you'll need to add potting them out to your October garden jobs list, as the weather worsens and the window for protecting plants from frost begins to shorten.

With that in mind, Monty Don has issued a gentle reminder that now is the time to pot out rooted cuttings and ensure they're properly prepared for the winter ahead.

While sorting the garden out this month, you may want to add this time-sensitive task to your list of jobs. Monty Don says now is the best time to do it before the weather properly begins to change.

"If you've taken semi-ripe cuttings and they've rooted, it's a good idea to pot them on individually rather than leave them over winter," Monty advises.

"Carefully separate the cuttings, trying not to damage the roots of each individual plant. Pot them up with peat-free compost and then put them somewhere where they can be protected against the worst of the winter weather," he adds.

Cuttings are a fantastic plant propagation tip to help fill your garden for free, but they do need a little extra effort to ensure they make it to fully established plants.

Make sure you don't make the spring gardening mistake of planting them out too early next year; the weather will need to be much warmer, and all risks of frost will need to be gone.

"They won't grow much over winter, but they will be ready to plant out in spring when the weather has warmed up," says Monty.

Again, if you're looking for ways to save money in the garden, cuttings are a great idea. Just ensure you've got space to grow them and keep them well protected during colder months before they can go outside to grow.

Splitting such a deliciously addictive series like Rivals into two parts seems a little criminal, but the wait is finally over for season 2 part b. Episodes 7-12 pick up where we left our Rutshire favourites, and even with his life in utter turmoil, Tony Baddingham will fight Declan O'Hara to the death over the franchise war. The Good Daughter

The Altruists

If you love true crime, you'll be floored by this modern day Bonnie and Clyde tale that airs on Netflix from November 19. Sam Bankman-Fried (Anthony Boyle) and Caroline Ellison (Julia Garner) were a tech power couple who were convicted for what the judge called the "greatest financial fraud" the US had seen after they set up cryptocurrency exchange company FTX.

Both idealistic and committed to "effective altruism," the pair built a multi-billion-dollar empire with the view of giving big sums to charity. But their ambitions ended in a web of corporate fraud, a devastating $8 billion collapse and one of them sentenced to significant jail time.

Yellowjackets season 4

There's good and bad news for fans of this brilliant, genre-bending show. Season 4 is available for your viewing pleasure from November 20 on Paramount+, but sadly, this is the last ever series.

Viewers will finally get answers to the many questions this mystery thriller has raised over the years, and survivors of the plane crash that landed the teenage girls in a violent wilderness all those years ago might finally find peace. If you're yet to start Yellowjackets, I implore you to give it a watch - you'll end up cancelling all your December plans too if you do, because you won't be able to tear your eyes away.

We never see Prince George, Charlotte or Louis during their school holidays but that doesn't mean we don't have any idea what they get up to. All the signs point to them watching The Traitors final on 30th October given how "obsessed" the younger two are with the show and the Princess of Wales might have just teased another activity.

A few days before half-term Kate visited Café 98 in Norfolk and said her parents were "looking forward" to the break too as it's a "chance to catch up". Now the Prince and Princess of Wales have released a throwback snap of one-year-old Louis that suggests Carole Middleton has inspired the next generation to embrace a family tradition.

For the first time ever, the future King and Queen shared a picture and message wishing everyone happy Halloween. They made it extra special by choosing Kate's picture of Louis trying valiantly to pick up a pumpkin, possibly after they'd got it home to Kensington Palace as the background isn't a pumpkin patch.

The Royal Family don't publicly mark Halloween but this new post shows that the Waleses enjoy it and suggests that pumpkin decorating could've been on the agenda for George, Charlotte and Louis this year too. Carole Middleton will surely have wanted to help as she called the holiday her "autumn highlight" on Party Pieces' Instagram account in 2022.

"I can still remember the fun and frights from my own childhood; the chance to dress up, decorate pumpkins and go trick-or-treating! I've even grown my own pumpkins this year, so I'm looking forward to decorating those with my loved ones," she added.

For all we know, the homegrown pumpkins were such a success that Carole has continued to grow them for her family to decorate. Getting into the Halloween spirit is one way to "catch up" with the grandchildren over the half-term break and a chance for the Middleton matriarch to pass on her childhood love of "fun and frights".

Since the Princess of Wales's picture of Louis was taken when he was one, they've clearly been embracing the holiday for a long time and maybe that's what made Carole want to try growing her own pumpkins in 2022. The new post is also a reminder that the Middletons are just as big of an influence on the Wales family as the royals.

Middleton traditions are incredibly important to William and Kate and the mum-of-three has been recreating special childhood moments for George, Charlotte and Louis.

During her appearance on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020, the Princess said, "I had an amazing granny who devoted a lot of time to us, playing with us, doing arts and crafts and going to the greenhouse to do gardening, and cooking with us."

She continued, "And I try and incorporate a lot of the experiences that she gave us at the time into the experiences that I give my children now."

Carole Middleton has similarly praised her "amazing" mother-in-law in the past and is just as much of a hands-on grandmother. As a former party supplies business owner, she's also the perfect person to make holidays like Halloween and Christmas feel extra magical for the children as they grow up.

As we age, balance and stability become increasingly important. You might not want to think about it now, but preventing falls is key to moving freely and independently later in life.

Strong legs are crucial for this. It's why so many people talk about strength training nowadays, but strength isn't just about building muscle. It's as much about mobility and flexibility as it is sheer power.

The simple calf raise is the most overlooked and undervalued exercise to improve all three, as I discovered when I tried it for a few weeks. "It primarily works the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles in the calf, which are important for walking, climbing stairs, pushing off the ground and maintaining ankle strength," says personal trainer and women's strength specialist Kate Rowe-Ham, founder of Owning Your Menopause.

However, calf raises also benefit other areas of the body, including the circulatory system (which pushes blood around the body) and the brain.

How to do calf raises

As with any exercise, good technique is critical. Personal trainer Edwina Jenner recommends the following steps:

• Stand with your feet roughly hip-width apart, beside a stable worktop or chair and use your hands lightly for support.
• Keep your body tall and your knees straight without forcing them backwards.
• Slowly lift both heels, keeping pressure through the balls of your feet rather than rolling onto their outer edges.
• Rise as high as you comfortably can, pause briefly, then lower your heels slowly to the floor.

“Think ‘lift and lower’, rather than bouncing up and down,” she advises. “Your body should travel upwards rather than rocking forwards. You are much better off doing 8 to 10 slow, controlled movements than 30 rushed ones, and you should feel your calves working."

How to make calf raises harder

Sounds too easy for you? The experts advise progressing gradually so you don't compromise technique, even though it's a simple exercise. “Once two-legged calf raises feel comfortable, you can progress to single-leg raises, which increase the demand on each calf," says Kate.

"You can also hold dumbbells for extra resistance, slow the lowering phase, or pause at the top," she adds.

1. They boost muscle strength

Strong, stable lower limbs equal balance and stability as we age, helping us stay independent and keep doing the things we love, from running around after our families to working out, walking, and more.

“We often focus on our glutes, abs, and arms, but our calves play an important role in how we move, our ankle stability, and our ability to stay active as we age,” agrees Kate.

2. Anyone can do calf raises

“Calf raises are incredibly accessible,” says personal trainer Emma McCaffrey. “You don't need access to a gym, any equipment or too much time to build them into your routine, making them perfect for busy midlife women.”

Do them while the kettle boils in the morning, while you brush your teeth at night, under your desk at work, or while you talk on the phone. It's a great exercise snack.

3. They boost circulation

Fun fact: our calves are sometimes called our ‘second heart’. They are made up of two muscles: the gastrocnemius, which you can feel close to the skin, and the soleus, which sits underneath it and helps pump blood around the body.

Studies show that calf size and strength are associated with better heart performance and more efficient circulation, proving that while the soleus muscle may not be the largest in the body, it is one of the most powerful.

4. They reduce injury risk

Better balance and stability mean we’re less likely to fall and more able to catch ourselves if we do trip, meaning we’re less susceptible to injury as we age.

Calf raises also help us mobilise the ankle joint, which studies show is closely linked to a reduced risk of injury. It's certainly one of the best exercises for longevity.

5. They improve brain health

Another surprising benefit of strong calves? Along with enhancing heart health, calf raises can give your brain a boost and improve focus.

Good circulation improves blood flow to the brain, and research shows that calf size may correlate with improved cognition, something we know can decline around perimenopause.

I did calf raises for a week

I was cavalier about this challenge. As a Pilates obsessive, I assumed my calves and ankles were pretty strong already. After all, Reformer footwork is not for the faint-hearted. I was soon humbled. The experts were right: this one burns. I started with two sets of 10 reps, a couple of times a day. Put it this way, by the morning of day two, I could definitely feel my calves.

Turns out, I might have been a little optimistic doing so many. “For someone starting, I’d suggest one set of eight to 12 controlled repetitions twice a week,” Edwina says. “If that feels too much, start with five repetitions and build from there. As you get stronger, you can progress towards two to three sets, resting a minute between them.”

She reassured me that the final few repetitions should feel challenging (yes!) but that I should still be able to lift and lower with control, with no ankle rolling.

So, for the next couple of days, I dialled things down a little and popped a few raises in during the day as an exercise snack. This felt much more manageable - especially when I held onto my kitchen worktop to improve my form.

I also tried doing the move on the stairs, which doubled as an excellent stretch for my calves.

By midweek, I was keen to up the ante. I tried wearing ankle weights while doing them, and I was instantly surprised by how much I could feel my ankle joint working, especially around the outer calf. It was proof that the move is excellent for ankles as well as calves.

Perhaps it was in my head, but I definitely felt stronger in my Pilates class this week: my footwork was smoother, and my ankles didn’t tire as fast as usual, which I’m taking as a win.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how tough I found doing calf raises every day. They were super easy to fit in and make the perfect move while waiting for the kettle to boil. I certainly noticed the slow burn. While I can’t say a week suddenly improved my balance, stability or mobility, I’ll include it in a well-balanced routine going forward.

Eye cream, and the point (or pointlessness) thereof, has been a big beauty debate as long as I've been in the 'biz.

My take is this: If you love a multi-step routine and want something specific from your eye cream that other skincare doesn't offer, a gentle retinol alternative for lines or a metal rollerball applicator to de-puff, say, then go for it. But ultimately, your usual serums and creams will do just fine, and please step away from products claiming to 'lift' eye bags or lighten dark circles; they truly can't.

Which brings me to concealer, the only product that can effectively (albeit temporarily) obliterate under-eye shadows, and increasingly, as formulas get more sophisticated, may also hydrate, plump lines and illuminate too.

Finding a good concealer and whacking it on in the morning is a far better use of your time, money and energy than slavishly applying a £100+ eye serum in the hope of very incremental benefits - and here's one that's worth its weight in gold.

I think any makeup collection dedicated to meeting the needs of 40+ women in such a thoughtful way deserves to be lauded more than once. These luxurious products aren't drab or patronising, or punitive; they're hot and desirable, and the brand only tests and photographs them on 40+ faces.

Creal also dabbles in a very tightly-edited selection of skincare, including a watery 'liquid moisturiser' and a lip primer that plumps lines and grips your lipstick, which I'll be trying next. Although this season sees many plants starting to go dormant, that doesn't mean you can't add even perennials to your garden and start building it again for spring next year. And if you're looking to save pennies, then now is a great time to get started.

Whether you want to make your garden look more expensive or are simply a plant collector, buying plants at the garden centre can become dear pretty quickly. Luckily, this time of year is actually the best for saving money in the garden whilst adding some more plants to it.

If you are looking to add to your plant collection, Ish Kamran, garden designer and content creator on Instagram @gardening.with.ish, has shared his advice for snapping up bargains at the garden centre.

It's no secret that most plants aren't looking their best as we head into the winter months; in fact, whilst you've been sorting your garden out, you've probably noticed many going dormant.

The same is true at the shops and garden centres; many plants are discounted because they don't look as good as they do in season. But that's great news for gardeners looking to save some money.

"One of the best pieces of advice I can give you for buying plants on a budget is to buy some of them right now, just before winter. Which, when you're looking at them, seems a little bit mad," says Ish.

"But actually, these, instead of being 13 pounds, 15 pounds and nearly 20 pounds, were one pound fifty. Which is absolutely ludicrous on the side of it, but what have I got here? I've got a hosta, a dahlia and a salvia; let's see what we've gotta do with it," he adds.

"The hosta is actually looking okay; it's just come to the end of its season; it had a little bit of a flower. All you have to do is remove some of this spent foliage, and I'd probably store it either in the ground right now or in the greenhouse until springtime, and I'll plant it back out. We'll have a big mature hosta for 50p," Ish explains.

Salvias are a great plant to find on discount; they're incredibly hardy and can make a big impact in a smaller garden thanks to their tall growth and vibrant colour.

"Now, the salvia has had a little bit of stress, but it has recovered quite well. What I'll do is leave this be. I'm not going to do anything; I'll probably have this out in the garden. It's hardy enough, and when it comes to spring, I'll take the top third of it off, encourage it to side shoot. No doubt this will be a huge salvia bush in spring and summer," says Ish.

Learning how to grow dahlias does require a little more effort when it comes to their tubers and storing them over winter, but the payoff is definitely worth it.

"The dahlia is a really interesting one because normally, when that kinda of a bit spent and rotten, you think that probably not going to do. But I do have an alive stem," he adds.

"And if you're not 100%, grab the plant right out of the pot and have a look for the tuber. If it's spongy and moist, it's too far gone, but if it's still quite solid, which means it's fine. Cut that stem off, let it dry out and plant it back up in the spring," Ish says.

"So, I've saved, what, 50 pounds on plants, and all I had to do is simply rescue them for five minutes," Ish points out.

Although these plants need a little more attention and care when you first get them, the discounts you can get far outweigh the effort needed to help them thrive.

A quarter of a century after it first hit our screens, Sir David Attenborough and the BBC are back with a third installment of Blue Planet, giving viewers new insight into the untold stories from our magical underwater worlds.

Sir David returned to narrate Blue Planet II in 2017, exposing the threats to our oceans. Now, the new six-part series will explore stories of adaptation and resilience in our changing world, along with stories of hope and recovery.

For interiors enthusiast and television personality Anna Williamson, creating an inviting bathroom is all about thoughtful details, everyday luxuries and knowing how to keep your bathroom tidy.

We sat down with her to discover eight simple ways to transform your space, from fluffy towels and sparkling mirrors to clever styling tricks that bring a designer touch.

1. Keep your bathroom pretty, pared-back, and practical

You don't need an extensive collection of luxury toiletries or a five-star hotel suite to create a bathroom that feels special. Often, it's the simplest details that make the biggest difference, from beautifully soft towels to a hand wash that looks as lovely as it smells.

"I'm all about keeping it neat and tidy and having as few bottles and bits and bobs on display as possible to create a nice, calm environment," Anna explains. "Too much clutter just looks messy and unappealing."

Her approach is really achievable. "It's all about clean white fluffy towels, a few really nice products such as a nice hand wash or room spray, and always a decent smelly candle," Anna says. Coordinating your wash, hand cream and a room spray can bring a sense of cohesion without overwhelming the space too.

2. Make sure your mirror is clean

Lots of people look at the overall design and layout rules of a bathroom, but there are lots of elements that it's easy to overlook, but a sparkling mirror, neatly arranged toiletries and a toilet seat that's always put down can make a bathroom feel instantly more polished.

Anna emphasises these little touches with the research "almost half (49%) of people get the ‘ick’ from dirty, water-splashed glass. And please, put the toilet seat down, a visible loo puts off over a third (39%) of people!" They're easy, but obviously important elements of you bathroom that could put people off.

3. Ambiance is everything

After you've organised your space, Anna's tip for making a bathroom feel calming and charming is all about ambiance. "I love plants in the bathroom, and I think a little pot of greenery can really elevate a bathroom and make it look expensive and well curated," Anna explains. "Also, a scented candle is a big must."

Choose a plant suited to the light and humidity in your bathroom, then pair it with a candle in a fragrance you love. Together, these details bring softness, scent and a sense of intention to the room without taking up too much precious space. And make sure to have a cosy bath robe ready to step into.

4. Keep clutter and clothes out of the way

If there's one household item Anna would happily keep out of sight, it's the humble clothes airer. Practical it may be, but aesthetically pleasing it certainly isn't.

"The clothes airer is my biggest home ick because there is never a perfect place to have it, even though it is a home and laundry essential," she says. "It just looks so meh!"

It's a familiar dilemma. Laundry is part of everyday life, particularly in busy family homes, but a drying rack covered in clothes can quickly take over a room or creep into the background of a carefully styled space.

Anna's advice is to be mindful of what's visible, particularly when you're entertaining or taking photographs at home. Decluttering your home by finding a dedicated spot for laundry, keeping surfaces clear and putting away toiletries after use can help create a more restful environment without requiring a complete bathroom overhaul.

This is where clever bathroom storage earns its place. Baskets can conceal everyday essentials, while cupboards and vanity units keep spare products tucked away but within easy reach. The aim isn't to hide every sign of real life, but to make sure the things you love about your bathroom aren't competing with the clutter.

5. Soft lighting and little luxuries make a big difference

With the right lighting, a few tactile accessories and a little attention to atmosphere, even a compact space can become somewhere you look forward to spending time.

"I think less is more when it comes to feeling truly relaxed and pampered in your bathroom," Anna says. "You don't need a five-star hotel suite to get that feeling, but keeping your bathroom spick and span, free from any personal grooming debris and ensuring the lighting is not too harsh can make a real difference."

Lighting is particularly important. Bright, functional illumination has its place when you're getting ready in the morning, but softer lighting can help create a more relaxing atmosphere in the evening. If you're planning a renovation, consider how different lighting options can work together to make the room practical as well as inviting.

6. Schedule cleaning and chores

Of course, making a bathroom looking beautiful is one thing; keeping it that way when several people share the space is quite another. Between morning routines, piles of laundry and competing demands for hot water, even the loveliest bathroom can become a source of household tension.

For Anna, the secret to a more harmonious home is communication and compromise. "Compromise is the key to families sharing a bathroom without it becoming a battleground," she explains. "Ascertain a bit of a schedule and who needs to be ready when. This can hopefully create a bit of a pecking order of priority on who should be using the bathroom first, who perhaps can wait a bit, and everybody being respectful enough not to hog all the hot water."

The same principle applies to sharing household chores. Rather than letting resentment build over who cleans the bathroom, empties the bins or tackles the laundry, Anna recommends having an honest conversation about how to divide responsibilities. "Without a doubt, what I dub the 'chores wars' is the most common home-related argument," she says. "It's about having a proper conversation, owning what you think you are best at, and dividing the rest between you so everybody feels respected and valued."

7. Make your bathroom a place for sellf-care

A beautifully styled bathroom might make a lovely backdrop for a photograph, but Anna believes that feeling good about yourself matters far more than having the perfect setting.

"My favourite confidence trick is what I call the Mirror Self-Talk Reset," she says. "Before taking your bathroom selfie, look in the mirror and notice the first thing you say to yourself. If you wouldn't say it to a friend, don't say it to yourself. Confidence is the ultimate green flag!"

It's a lovely reminder that our bathrooms can be spaces for self-care in more ways than one. Rather than focusing on whether the room looks impressive enough for a photograph, think about how it makes you feel when you're using it every day. Anna adds that she's "'a sucker for a nice bubble bath too, just gives the epitome of relaxation and luxury," so if you need an extra pick-me-up, that's the place to go.

8. Don't skimp on the practical purchases

"I'm delighted to say that there is actually nothing I would change about my bathroom, purely because we have just had the bathroom of our dreams designed and fitted after many years of wanting to do it," she explains. "I love our shower, bath and basically everything about it, particularly the mood lighting."

Her remaining shopping list is a reminder that you don't need to undertake a major renovation to make a bathroom feel more considered. "I still haven't got round to buying nice toilet roll holders, bins, baskets and all of those bits for the bathroom, so that is definitely on my list to pop down to Wickes to get," she says.

The iconic Ruby Wax has been on stage and screen for decades. An advocate for mental health, she is best known for her comedy - contributing to and starring in Absolutely Fabulous - and being an author.

After starting out at the Royal Shakespeare Company and gaining a master's degree in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, she founded her own charity, Frazzled, to help people suffering mental health challenges, and even mentors people at her London home.

Almost a year since her stint on I'm a Celebrity, Ruby catches us up on her latest tour, her charity work, and the very famous friend who helped her find her inimitable style.

Seeing Ruby in action, one might think it came naturally. But she revealed it was the help of a few celebrity friends - hint, Love, Actually and Harry Potter icon Alan Rickman - who really helped her when she was starting out.

She revealed, "Alan wasn't famous when I met him. We were in the Royal Shakespeare Company, and he said, ‘You suck as an actress, but you could be funny – write the way you think.'

"He went through my pages, picked out my great lines, then did my shows for the next 30 years. He directed everything. My parents would go, ‘This is ridiculous. She's making a fool of herself,' and Alan would say, ‘No, she's very talented.'"

"My dear parents never believed it. But he would stand by me. I really was not good at anything, so I reinvented. Alan said, ‘Do documentaries, write and be funny.'"

Another of Ruby's supporters and friends turned lifetime collaborator is Absolutely Fabulous legend Jennifer Saunders.

Ruby shared, "Jennifer is a genius, she's hilarious. We wrote together [Ruby was a script editor on Absolutely Fabulous] and she'd say, make it funnier, especially for Patsy.

"I wrote Patsy as Joanna [Lumley] – that was a joy, not many beautiful women are funny... If you're really beautiful, you don't bother."

With all the celebrities she's encountered in her life, it's no surprise she's had some... memorable encounters. She revealed that one of the weirdest questions she's ever been asked was "'What does Madonna smell like?' That's a good one. I put her underpants on my head – the interview was going so badly."

Still working, Ruby is currently touring a new show, Absolutely Famous. Sharing what to expect from the show, she said, "We're showing clips [from When Ruby Wax Met…] – Trump, Pamela Anderson, OJ Simpson, Tom Hanks and Jim Carrey, and giving you the story of what was going on.

"We talk about the nature of fame – how it affects people. It's interesting to see an A-lister talking from the heart again. I always had 10 minutes with them, but I'd get in there and tap-dance like f**k.

"Because as long as I was entertaining, they could tell their PR to get lost. Five minutes turned into [more] – I was with Hugh Hefner for two weeks, living with the Bunnies – after 10 minutes, they get interested. Now, with Instagram you're never gonna see the truth – ever. People are too scared of being cancelled, these people didn't give a s**t. They said anything."

And that's not Ruby's only issue with social media.

"Social media isn't helpful at all. Social media doesn't give you depression, but you can get pulled into envy. To me, social media shows you everybody has got more going than you do. It says, ‘If you get this, you'll be happy.'"

"It's getting our weakness. It knows us more than we know ourselves and how to make you hungry for things to buy. That's really the motive of social media. It started off with really good intentions – you'd meet people, now you ain't meeting the real thing, you're meeting a fake."

It's not just her work on stage that's keeping Ruby busy - her charity work has become paramount. She explained all about her own charity, Frazzled.

"Frazzled is a neurobiological word that means stressed about stress – you sabotage yourself with your own thinking. We're our worst enemy. But depression is not to do with sadness, your brain is sick. It sneaks up on you like a demon. You leave town, you're gone..

"In cafes up and down the country, people meet after hours. You see people coming in terrified, then they leave like this compassionate charm bracelet, all holding hands.

"If you feel you need to speak to somebody, we're not therapy – just a chance to get it off your chest. Once you do, compassion oozes around. We're open every day. Go on frazzledcafe.org. It's free."

Finally the plan is clear. Now we can see why Harry and Meghan returned to the UK. They want to be royals - but royals their way. Rogue royals, if you will.

That half-in/half-out model that the late Queen said just wasn't possible? Harry and Meghan's first joint engagements, in Nottingham earlier this month, ran a coach and horses through that.

‘It's wonderful to be back,' trilled Meghan. The King had previously directed his Lord Chamberlain to write to all public bodies, reminding us all they were ‘private citizens'.

The Sussexes just ignored that and did it their way anyway.

The manner of their departure as working royals in 2020 hardly cemented familial relations. But it was the series of damaging allegations about the Royal Family that came next, through television interviews, documentaries and Harry's autobiography Spare, that sent shockwaves through the monarchy.

And just in case anyone was in any doubt, a friend of Team Sussex tells me that any suggestion they feel the need to apologise to Kate, William, Camilla or the King is totally wrong.

‘They're not going to apologise, they have absolutely nothing to say sorry for,' I'm told. ‘If anything they still deserve an apology for the way they were treated.'

Never mind that the various brickbats hurled with royal resentment included accusing his stepmother Camilla of sacrificing him for her good PR, his brother William of knocking him to the floor on to a dog bowl and sister-in-law Kate of being cold.

And perhaps we should all forget the duke's berating of the ‘establishment' or the implication that members of the Royal Household were racist, or Meghan's mockery of her curtsey to Queen Elizabeth.

Their return to Nottingham – where they first stepped out as an engaged couple in 2017 – was deliberate and potentially provocative.

It was saying the last six years had never happened and they're BACK.

The day – which comprised a visit to a community recording studio, a food bank and a youth mentoring service – was straight out of the royal playbook. The schedule looked just like the ones they did before they stepped back in 2020.

To all intents and purposes, it was a joint royal engagement with the accompanying official operational notes and media rota. Just don't call it that in front of the Palace.

And it appears, following their tours to Jordan and Australia where they were treated like royalty earlier this year, that the one place where they really want to regain their royal status is here. In the UK. But this time, they will be in control. Not bossed about by Buckingham Palace, or the courtiers, or even the King. They can do what they want.

Yet even if they don't want to win back trust and support from the Royal Family, they have still quite a way to go with large sections of the public – as Harry will be only too aware after apparently being booed when he appeared in the stands at a Leicester Tigers rugby match earlier this month.

It showed him and Meghan just how far this once-adored couple have sunk in many hearts.

We don't need the polls of the Sussexes' poor approval ratings to tell us that they are not warmly embraced here after the way they have treated the Royal Family.

Many Brits were appalled at how they milked and abused their royal status through his autobiography, the Oprah interview and the Netflix docuseries. Making millions by trashing the royals was deeply unpalatable and still sticks in the craw.

Which could explain why they're doing these engagements with so many photographers (who according to some reports outnumbered the public on the streets of Nottingham), so much fanfare, so much posting on social media.

Because they want to be welcomed back by us to improve their commercial viability.

To remind us they are still royal – and by reprising their first triumphant appearance in Nottingham they look desperate to go back to the old days.

But, to me, they seem cynically determined to ignore the late Queen's decree – and that of the King – by continuing to cash in.

Meghan apparently plans to sell her As Ever products here in the UK, while Harry was reportedly paid around £70,000 to sell his trauma over losing his mother in an online series on resilience and overcoming grief for the Masterclass platform.

They appear to be selling those royal connections for all they're worth. But don't expect any apologies any time soon.

Emma Willis has been stealing the spotlight on this year's Strictly Come Dancing. Week after week, the seasoned television presenter charms millions of viewers (five million tuned in on October 10th) with her infectious smile and familiar warmth. But here at woman&home HQ, she's caught our attention for another reason – her enviable glow.

"What is Emma using on her skin?" was one message that cropped up in our beauty team's group chat. "I want an entire breakdown of her skincare routine!" read another. And, as if we'd manifested it, an email landed in our inbox a few days later revealing her go-to face moisturiser.

A cult classic and French skincare staple, Willis is reportedly a huge fan of Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré. She's previously spoken about taking a pared-back approach to her beauty routine, favouring multitasking products over complicated, multi-step routines – so it makes sense that this hardworking cream has earned a place in her beauty bag.

The woman&home team sat down with Lorraine Kelly to discuss several topics, including her fashion choices and how she relies on a select few brands. Highlighting several of the retailers that our fashion team loves, such as M&S, Zara and Boden, as well as more premium brands, it's music to our ears that the presenter buys from the same shops that we do!

Outside of everyday, she has a few trusted names for her TV appearances, including The Fold, because "they're very structured"; she reveals that she has a particular love for the brand's use of colour. However, for everyday dressing, Lorraine's choices are much more accessible.

"Marks & Spencer are still pretty good. I like FatFace and I am also an ambassador for Bonmarché, who are great for when you need something practical. They’re affordable, so if I’m looking after Billie and we have a spill, it doesn't really matter."

Whilst she highlights Zara as one of her favourite brands to shop at, she jokes about her shopping experience in-store, admitting, "I don't like shopping in Zara because there is never anybody around, and I'm turning to my mother, going, 'Is anybody there?'"

Lorraine's approach to shopping and fashion is refreshingly realistic. Whilst she knows the value of buying investment pieces for more premium price points, she also understands the practicality of shopping on the high street, something we love to see!

Since joining This Morning five years ago, chef Clodagh McKenna has won over viewers with her warm and sunny nature.

Now Clodagh, 51, is inviting them into her home for her new show, Clodagh: Cooking At Home, where she serves up delicious recipes, while giving us a glimpse into life alongside husband of five years, Harry Herbert.

The couple live at Broadspear House, a 300-year-old cottage and farm located on the grounds of Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey was filmed. Here, in an exclusive interview with Woman, Clodagh - who has also released a cookbook, Clodagh at Home - opens up about life on the farm, her close bond with Holly Willoughby and whether she'd do Strictly.

Clodagh has become something of an instant favourite from her appearances on TV, and her close friendships have helped.

Talking about Holly Willoughby, Clodagh shared, "We both love a laugh, we're real girl's girls, and we both love having fun. She's a very loyal friend, and I hope I am, too. We just had this wonderful connection from the beginning.

And fans will get to see them together again soon.

"Every single time. Holly and I would love to do something together, I'm sure. Her YouTube show is fabulous, and I'm going to be on it in a few weeks."

Holly's not the only familiar face who have become frequent guests and friends of Clodagh.

Of the This Morning gang, Clodagh revealed, "I've pretty much had nearly everybody down throughout the years for my St Patrick's Day party or for weekends.

I'm always getting them down because you do naturally become very good friends. I think Ben and Cat are doing such an incredible job. Their relationship is just fabulous, and I adore them."

Appearing on TV has proved natural for her. When asked about inviting cameras into her home, she shared, " I was just excited. We moved into that property over eight years ago, and it was nothing like it is now.

"There were no gardens, no vegetables growing, no animals – nothing. And because myself and my husband, Harry, poured every bit of our energy into it, it was really lovely to be able to film there and share it.

And as for her husband, Harry, he "loves" the camera, it turns out. "He's such a natural. If I had my way, I would have had him in every single cook with me. Maybe that's the next series!"

We've seen her in her element at home and cooking on This Morning, but is there another show Clodagh would do?

"If I was ever to do one, it would probably be Strictly Come Dancing, because I love music and dancing. I'd love to learn. Spending time with those professional dancers would be incredible."

Crediting her lifestyle with her healthy glow, Clodagh explained, "I eat very well, I juice every day, and when I'm planning my dinner, I'm thinking: ‘OK I had pasta once already this week, I can't have it again. I need to have some fish and green vegetables.'

"Cooking makes you physically feel better, because you're putting less salt and processed food into your body, and then that triggers you mentally, so you feel better. And when you've got those two things together, you look better."

With her recipes at the core of her health and beauty, we just had to know what were some of her personal favourites from the book - consider it inspiration for the coming colder months.

"We live in the middle of the countryside so there's no Deliveroo, Uber Eats or takeaways, so I've got to cook whether I like it or not!

"I cook every night, and love doing easy, family one pots, like my vegetable garden soup with butter beans and chickpeas. Another highlight recipe would definitely be the pistachio tiramisu.

"And my chicken fricassee. When I came up with that recipe, it was the most viewed and most talked about on my social platforms, so I had to have that in."

What are the Mountain Warehouse Adventurer boots like to wear?

There's no denying these are some of the most stylish walking boots around for those who love maximalist design, pairing bold leopard print and suede-look material with a pop of red in the laces.

They have a thick cuff that feels incredibly supportive around the ankle and a lace set that travels from the toes to the top, locking your feet in with speed hooks along the sides. Yet, there's no faffing - it only takes me seconds to pull these on and tie them up.

The Adventurer boots, when tied up securely, have a real snug fit that gives me confidence on the trails and rockier climbs. I took these along the South West Coastal Path in Dorset, and I was grateful for their support, allowing me to navigate slimmer pathways in the rocks and slippery bits on the descent with confidence.

If you're looking for a shoe with a wide toe box, this isn't it. While it's not particularly narrow, those with wider feet will be better off with the Columbia Peakfreak Outdry range, for example, which is noticeably roomier.

What are the Mountain Warehouse Adventurer boots like to hike in?

I walked 17km in total along the South West Coastal Path and around Durdle Door in these shoes over one weekend, and I'd wear them again anytime. A few days before, I took them on a 5km outing in my local park to wear them in and protect my feet from puddles after a recent downpour.

They feel noticeably clunkier than some of my other walking shoes, but I got used to the feeling after a few miles. It makes sense, as they are fairly heavy shoes (555g each).

While I couldn't see a rocker in the description, there is a slight feeling of being propelled along in these boots. It's no bad thing.

Surprisingly, these boots stand up to quite a few miles of wear very comfortably. They have thick, spacious lugs on the soles, which were effective on slippery trails and grippy on the downhill, which is all you can ask for. I also didn't have any blisters after my day, which is an achievement for me.

British weather is famously unpredictable, and I saw the extent of this on my walk. After a turn from cloud to driving rain, I pulled on my hiking trousers over my shorts and swapped my down jacket for a raincoat to shield myself from wind and rain. Given that these shoes are much cheaper than other waterproof options I've worn, they held up incredibly well, and my feet stayed dry.

I would say they are perhaps not the best option for the hotter months, however. While they are very waterproof, they don't balance this protection with breathability, and my feet felt sweaty after only a few kilometres.

Price and value for money

When I spotted the price tag on the Mountain Warehouse Adventurer boots, I almost did a double take. At full price, they come in at a reasonable £80 - cheaper than many other options with similar features.

At the time of writing, these boots are just £39.99, making them an absolute steal for fashion-conscious walkers who love a bold colourway.

The w&h verdict

At just under £40 in the sale, the Mountain Warehouse Adventurer walking boots are excellent value for money. While the materials and weight may limit their premium feel, they are very supportive around the ankle, comfortable over all distances, and have a snug fit that those with narrow feet will particularly love.

It's rare to find a walking boot where the designer has considered current fashion trends, but this one lands right on the mark.

We often overlook Prince Harry's relationship with his sister-in-law Princess of Wales next to the more talked-about tension with Prince William, but their once-close bond has also been strained since his royal exit. The Princess of Wales hasn't been seen publicly with the Duke of Sussex since the coronation and even now he's back in the UK, nothing has obviously changed.

Kate has been quietly and calmly going about her duties amid the scrutiny surrounding the Sussexes and now Harry is reportedly committed to working around that. Ten days after the interview where he proclaimed he wants to "make it work" with his family, a source claimed the Prince is "mindful" of his sister-in-law's potential plans.

"Obviously with the King going to CHOGM [Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting] and the Prince and Princess of Wales going to India, he knows about those things and he is obviously mindful of that as he's planning his own activities as well," they claimed to The Times.

King Charles is currently away on his nine day autumn tour in the Caribbean which will end with the CHOGM and the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony takes place in Mumbai in November. So far, only William is confirmed to be going to the event.

However, the source's comment seems to suggest Prince Harry believes Kate is accompanying her husband to India - or at least that she might. If he's already factoring that possible trip into his own schedule, I think that shows a lot of consideration for her as much as for his brother.

In recent weeks several of the Duke's projects have ended up overlapping with big moments for the working royals. Most prominent among them was his GQ interview going out the same day as the ceremonial welcome and State Banquet for the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

A Sussex spokesperson has stated it was GQ's decision to publish then, though the timing still sparked murmurs about overshadowing. If the Princess of Wales goes to India then this would be her first Earthshot appearance since 2022 and that would attract a lot of attention - probably more than if it was just Prince William.

Harry holding off from any public appearances during this time would ensure that focus remains on the Waleses and the awards themselves. It's a mark of respect and perhaps a subtle olive branch to both his sister-in-law and brother.

Kate and Harry used to be very close and for a long time she's understood to have done her best to keep the peace. In William & Catherine royal expert Russell Myers alleges, "Whether counselling William or having a quiet word in Harry's ear, she saw it as her duty to keep the two brothers on the same team, as did their senior aides."

If the Duke of Sussex is ever going to build bridges, surely the Princess of Wales will need to be involved in some way. In woman&home's December issue a source close to Harry claimed to Royal Editor Emily Andrews that a reunion might happen "if the wives could facilitate it. If Kate could broker some kind of rapprochement then maybe."

They "can't see it happening soon", but perhaps Prince Harry's focus on not scheduling appearances around major events will help start things off.

Scarlett Johansson knows what she's talking about when it comes to shoes. I'm still in love with the cosy trainer/snow boot hybrid style by Sorel that she convinced me to buy a while back, and now she's just solved another footwear dilemma for me.

Speaking exclusively to w&h behind the scenes of our photoshoot, Beckett walked Kelly through her makeup look, revealing a clever colour-based eyeliner trick:

"To make sure it was soft around your eyes, I used a green pencil," she explains. "You've got these amazing hazel eyes, Beckett continues. "So the olive-y pencil brings them out, and it almost turns the olive pencil brown - but it's much softer than using a brown."

This method of using colourful shadow and liner to intensify your natural eye colour is a classic makeup artist's trick, one we've seen with Nicole Kidman's makeup for blue eyes, for example - while also providing a more flattering definition than more traditional dark shades.

"That's so clever, because normally we just go for black," Kelly responds. "Sometimes it can be, especially when you're a bit older, not as flattering," while Beckett agrees that black "can be really harsh."

Going on to demonstrate her product of choice, Beckett says, "I used an amazing one from Kiko, which is very soft and it's a bargain as well." And while there's nothing better than a beauty bargain, if you like to shop around or prefer a bit of luxury in your makeup bag, our beauty team rates these options, in particular for mature lids.

Kelly's beautifully soft and eye makeup was complemented by fresh and dewy skin, which Beckett achieved by using a lightweight foundation and "loads of highlighter," as well as a "lots of bronzer" to ensure the overall look was warm and flattering.

The cherry on top? A bold raspberry lipstick, which Beckett explained simply looks like a softer red on the lips - and, paired with the olive liner, led to the admission, "I know they say red and green should never be seen." Based on the stunning finished effect of this colour combination, we say it's definitely time to rethink that rule.

Strictly Come Dancing presenter Emma Willis is on our screens every week, but even with a busy TV career and a family life to juggle, the 50-year-old finds time for strength training.

The star has been working out with friend and celebrity personal trainer Rob Solly for decades. The PT told Women's Health that they focus on improving strength with weights, plyometrics, and brief high-intensity periods, mixing it up depending on Emma's schedule and how hard she wants to push herself.

The pair aim for progressive overload (making exercise harder as you get stronger), but stay adaptable, and the trainer prioritises functional movement patterns to "make the body as resilient and functional as possible."

The trainer shared one such workout on his Instagram, calling it the "the @emmawillisofficial workout". It uses dumbbells, cardio exercises like rowing and boxing, and various mobility movements to strengthen and stretch. Here's how to do it...

1. Deadbug with Swiss medicine ball

• Lie on a yoga mat with your knees bent at 90 degrees, so your shins are parallel to the ceiling. Hold a Swiss ball between your knees and hands, with arms pointed up.
• Press your lower back against the mat and brace your core.
• Press your left hand and right knee firmly into the ball, and slowly straighten and lower your opposite arm and leg towards the floor.
• Return to the starting position of this dead bug exercise and repeat on the other side.

2. Rowing

• Complete a short workout on a rowing machine.
• Rob doesn't specify how long Emma rows for, so try for 10 minutes to warm up your muscles before moving onto the next exercise.

3. Kneeling med ball throws

• Kneel on your mat with your knees hip-width apart. Grab a medicine ball with both hands and hold it at chest level.
• Keep your body upright and core braced.
• Hinge slightly at the hips, bring the medicine ball down to your left hip.
• Drive the ball and throw it to your right side as hard as you can, following through with your hands.
• Repeat on both sides.

4. Elevated pigeon stretch

• Find a stable bench, chair or box and raise one leg up into the pigeon stretch position, resting on the top.
• Reach forward and bring your body as close to your bent leg as you can, stopping if there is any discomfort.
• Hold for a couple of seconds, then repeat.
• Repeat on both sides.

5. Groin kettlebell stretch

• Kneel on your mat and extend on leg out to the side at 90 degrees. Place your foot flat on the floor and hold a light kettlebell out in front of you.
• Keep your body tall and brace your core, keeping your hips slightly forward to keep your spine neutral.
• Squeeze the glute of your kneeling leg. Shift your body weight towards the extended leg.
• Keep going until you feel a stretch.
• Hold for a couple of seconds, then repeat. Repeat on both sides.

6. Swing, catch, squat, press

• Emma does this exercise with two dumbbells, but you can also do it with a kettlebell.
• Hinge at your hips (by pushing them to the back of the room), bringing the weights between your legs. Drive your hips forward with power and float the weight to your chest height.
• As the weight reaches chest height, pull it towards you, 'catching' it securely.
• Keep the weight close to your chest, bringing your shoulder blades back and down, bracing your core.
• Come down into a squat, pushing your hips back and making sure your knees move in line with your toes, pointed slightly out. Drive back up to standing.
• As you reach the top of your squat, press the weights above your head.
• Bring the weight down slowly to return to the starting position.

7. Lunge with lateral fly

• Stand with your feet hip-width apart on your yoga mat. Grab two fairly light dumbbells.
• Take a step forward with one foot and bend both knees so your back knee is parallel to the floor. Your front knee should also be bent.
• As you sit in this static position, raise the weights to the side of your body in a lateral raise.
• Complete two lateral raises for every lunge, making sure to switch legs.

8. Jumping half lunges

• Stay in the lunge position, bringing the weights up to your shoulders, stacking them securely.
• Jump between legs, switching lunge positions.

9. Push-ups and pull throughs

• Come down into a plank position on your mat, setting up for a press-up. Put a dumbbell or kettlebell next to you, within reach.
• If you can't do a full press-up, bring your knees to the floor to support yourself.
• Complete one press-up and at the top, drag the weight from one side of your body to the other.
• Repeat the movement, then drag it back.

10. Boxing

• Rob and Emma finish off their workout with a round of boxing, which you can do with a partner or on a bag alone.

Emma is clearly dedicated to weight training, describing her focus on lifting as a "real switch" in her mentality once she reached her 40s in the interview with Women's Health. However, she also told Women's Fitness that while strength training and Reformer Pilates were favourites, she could "go days without doing any exercise" when she's busy.

"My best tip is not to beat yourself up if you don’t get round to exercising. I’m someone who enjoys reformer Pilates and weight training, but I can go days without doing any exercise when life is busy, so if you are the same, don’t feel guilty at all," she said.

Autumn is the season for pumpkin-spiced lattes and apple crumbles, but let's not forget the humble cheese toastie. Nor should we overlook golden paninis and perfectly buttered bagels, because there's something especially comforting about toast-based lunches and cosy breakfasts at this time of year.

We expected it to bring a little extra precision to our morning toast, but what we hadn't anticipated was just how clever this toaster-come-panini-press-and-grill, could be.

Combining three kitchen essentials in one compact design, it's an intriguing solution for anyone short on worktop space but unwilling to compromise on what their appliances can do. Naturally, I was keen to put it through its paces.

I started with the toaster function, which felt like the natural place to begin. The control panel offers seven browning settings, alongside dedicated functions for extra toast, bagels and defrosting. The slot is long and wide enough to accommodate two slices of bread or two bagel halves, and the overall design feels simple, considered and refreshingly easy to navigate.

One of Ninja's key promises is even, edge-to-edge heat distribution, so I put this to the test straight away. I popped two slices of white bread into the toaster and switched it on from cold. Both slices emerged with an impressively consistent golden finish, with no obvious pale patches or overly dark edges. The heat distribution was excellent, and the speed was equally impressive. But it was a seemingly small detail that quickly became one of my favourite features: the digital countdown timer.

With most toasters, I'm accustomed to waiting for a light to flash, watching a dial or simply hoping my toast will pop up at the right moment. The Ninja Foodi takes the guesswork out of the process by counting down to when your toast will be ready. It might sound like a minor addition, but it's wonderfully practical. When my sourdough needed two minutes and 20 seconds, I could see at a glance whether I had time to fetch a plate, butter and jam or whether I'd be better off waiting until the toast was ready.

I also tested fruit bread, bagels, brown bread and sourdough, and the toaster delivered consistently good results across the board. The fruit bread was ready in just one minute, while the bagel function toasted the cut sides beautifully without overdoing the outside. For a kitchen appliance you'll probably use every day, that combination of speed, consistency and straightforward controls is a real selling point.

Once I'd happily worked my way through more toast than was strictly necessary for testing purposes, it was time to explore the Ninja Foodi's party trick. Rotating the toaster onto its side transforms it into a grill, with a simple locking lever securing it in place. It's an ingenious bit of design that gives the appliance an entirely new purpose without requiring another bulky gadget on your worktop.

I spotted the bake setting early on and was keen to try it with some breakfast pastries. Croissants are a popular choice for this function, so I started with a plain one. The result was lovely, with flaky pastry and a soft, buttery centre. But I suspected a pain au chocolat might be an even better test. After just a minute and a half on the bake setting, I had crisp, delicate pastry wrapped around gloriously molten chocolate. If you enjoy a bakery-style breakfast at home, this is a very persuasive reason to give the function a try. I suspect my weekend breakfasts are going to look rather different from now on.

Of course, the real test of a toaster that doubles as a panini press had to be a toasted sandwich. The appliance comes with a dedicated press that slots into place to compress your panini as it cooks, helping to achieve that satisfyingly crisp exterior.

I used specialist panini bread, complete with the characteristic grill lines, to make a mozzarella, sun-dried tomato and basil sandwich. The results were delicious: beautifully crisp on the outside, soft and warm in the middle, with mozzarella that stretched wonderfully with every bite.

In fact, the paninis were such a hit that my family requested them for lunch three days in a row. By the fourth day, we'd run out of ingredients, so someone had to make a trip to the shops to ensure we wouldn't be disappointed the following lunchtime. I think that's a fairly convincing endorsement of just how good they were.

There is one consideration worth mentioning: making a panini takes around 14 minutes. That might feel a little lengthy if you're used to throwing together a quick lunch, although it's worth factoring in the time a conventional panini maker takes to heat up, too. Given that the Ninja Foodi can also toast bread, bake pastries and grill ingredients, I think the additional cooking time is a reasonable compromise for the versatility it offers. It isn't necessarily the appliance for anyone who needs lunch ready in a hurry, but it does make a very good sandwich.

The grill function proved just as useful, and it's a feature I can see myself reaching for regularly. I used it to cook halloumi for dinner rather than turning on my main oven, which felt like a sensible way to prepare a smaller portion without heating up a larger appliance.

The halloumi developed a beautifully golden exterior while remaining soft in the middle, and the included tray kept everything neatly contained. For smaller meals, sides or ingredients that benefit from a little direct heat, it's a particularly handy alternative to firing up the main grill. I'd happily use it again for halloumi, and I can see it coming into its own for other quick, simple dishes, too.

Should you buy the Ninja Foodi 3-in-1 Toaster, Grill, and Panini Press?

The Ninja Foodi Toaster is such a clever kitchen appliance. Combining a toaster, panini press and grill in one compact design is a smart use of space, particularly for smaller kitchens where every inch of worktop counts.

What impressed me most was that the extra functions didn't come at the expense of its primary job. The toaster delivered consistent results, the digital countdown made breakfast that little bit easier, and the grill and bake settings proved genuinely useful rather than feeling like features added simply to pad out the specification.

The 14-minute panini cooking time is worth bearing in mind if speed is your priority, but the sheer range of things this appliance can do makes it easy to overlook. From perfectly toasted sourdough and indulgent chocolate pastries to crisp, cheesy paninis and golden halloumi, it's a versatile little workhorse that encourages you to get more creative with everyday meals.

Family resemblances run strong with the royals and some are the absolute spitting image of each other at certain times in their life, like young Queen Elizabeth and Princess Charlotte or Prince George and teenage Prince William. However, the Prince of Wales also looks strikingly similar to someone outside the Royal Family - and he's actually met them.

His unexpected doppelgänger has just shared a throwback photo with William and discussed the times he was "often" mistaken for him when he was younger. Looking at them now, I'd say there's a likeness there between adventurer and broadcaster Ben Fogle and the future King, but it was maybe more pronounced back in the day.

Ben Fogle is a longtime ambassador for Tusk, an African wildlife conservation charity that Prince William is Royal Patron of. Their support for the organisation and its vital work brought them together and in 2010 they travelled across Botswana.

"It was a fascinating journey and a privilege to spend time with the future King, while he shared his passion for conservation. Something we are both passionate about," Ben wrote in his caption alongside the picture of them sitting in the back of a truck.

The adventurer and writer added, "When I was younger, I was often mistaken for Prince William. People used to stop me all the time and ask where my security were?"

Many of his fans clearly agree with those people too, as Ben's post was flooded with comments, including "so alike", "you guys look like brothers" and "the visual similarity in this photo is striking". As he's first in the royal line of succession the Prince of Wales is one of the few royals who has round the clock security, so it probably would be a cause for concern if you'd apparently spotted him without them!

Having a royal doppelgänger who's also an acquaintance is a fun piece of trivia for Ben Fogle and the resemblance has apparently also helped William out in the past. According to the Standard, the Prince once reportedly pretended to be the adventurer to protect his privacy.

When asked whether he'd ever tried to pass himself off as the Prince of Wales, the publication noted that Ben's eyes widened "in horror" as he replied, "No! No! But people have been convinced I'm him overseas. In Chile, the entire paparazzi once turned up."

There have also been times when the royals aren't recognised as themselves, and this has happened to Princess Catherine before. In July she visited Evelina London Children's Hospital and was asked by a young boy if she was the Queen's daughter, to which she gracefully replied, "No, I am the Princess of Wales".

Back in 2020 she and Prince William went to the Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff when Kate was also not immediately recognised - although to be fair, both were wearing face masks on this occasion. The couple had previously played virtual bingo with non-nonsense resident Joan Drew-Smith and when they met her in person she asked the Prince, "Is that your assistant?"

The Princess of Wales laughed and responded, "Well, I am your assistant. I have been for a long time!"

It's no secret that interior trends come and go, with decades-old styles suddenly rising in popularity and finding their way into our homes. And after looking at Winona Ryder's glamorous home from the 90s, we're not surprised.

We've seen many iconic home trends recirculate in today's world, whether that's avocado bathrooms or even the nostalgic Christmas decorations trend. There's good reason we revisit interior styles from the past; they're usually full of character and personality, which some modern styles can lack. One look that is definitely on our radar now? 90s glamour.

Sharing her home with Architectural Digest in 1994, Heathers star Winona Ryder showed us how to create a space that oozes luxury whilst staying true to the personality of the homeowner. It's the perfect inspiration as we head into the autumn and winter months, and we simply can't choose a favourite element.

Whether you like to keep up with interior design trends or not, you may have started to notice styles that reigned supreme decades ago coming back into fashion. People are clearly looking to add more character to their homes, and even interior paint colour trends are getting bolder each year.

That's why, when we spotted Winona's home on a throwback post from Architectural Digest, we had to pause for a moment and admire the style notes. Somehow, Winona and her friend Kevin Haley, who helped restore the space, had perfectly balanced rich, charming interiors whilst keeping the space clean and cohesive.

Looking at the living space, there's lots to look at; however, because of the warm, orangey-brown colour palette that's been adhered to, it doesn't overwhelm the senses. There's a pattern with the warm wooden cabinet, rich orange velvet throw and accent chair with complementary hues. They managed to add so much personality to the space without it feeling too much or becoming gaudy.

Although the home was certainly on the side of the maximalist trend, with its powerful colours, statement art and unique pieces of furniture, it's not cluttered. Instead, each piece used in the spaces has a purpose. Take the large artwork in what seems to be a second living area; it's the loudest thing in the room and anchors an otherwise neutral space.

Another standout for us is the painted drinks cabinet, with its glossy finish and wonderful organic shape. One-of-a-kind pieces like these are often handed down through generations, and styling an heirloom piece like this can be a challenge. However, you must let a piece of furniture with such personality be the star of the show in a room. Only pair it with more subtly characterful accessories and furniture, like the marble coffee table and colourful vase of flowers.

Not only was this throwback timed perfectly with Halloween, but Winona's 90s home is fantastic inspiration for how to make a home cosy. Those rich tones, luxurious fabrics and candles galore are the perfect recipe for an autumn home.

Another easily recreated style note from Winona's home is the use of layered lighting. With warm-toned bulbs, candles and lamps, the space is comfortably lit without any overpowering main lights on. It keeps the space welcoming and cosy.

Zara Tindall has embraced the 'colour theory' makeup trend with a striking cinnamon-toned eyeshadow that perfectly accentuates her eye colour.

The chic royal family member stepped out at Cheltenham Racecourse earlier this week - and it's obvious that she has mastered her autumn styling.

Zara coordinated her maroon Fairfax & Favor Blenheim handbag with a rich burgundy cashmere jumper and fascinator, worn alongside a navy checked power suit. And her makeup reflected those seasonal tones.

Nailing an on-trend trick of using specific eye makeup shades to enhance your natural eye colour, she expertly opted for a toasty eyeshadow hue that made the bright blue tones in her eyes stand out.

This is a classic makeup artist's trick, but has recently been rebranded as 'Eyemaxxing ' across social media. In a nutshell, the method involves using colour theory to choose eye makeup colours that contrast with the natural tones in your eyes, in order to make them look bigger and brighter.

The trick is to go for shades that sit opposite your natural eye colour on the colour wheel. These tones will create a high level of visual contrast, resulting in a powerful eye look that will accentuate your peepers in an elegant, subtle way.

For example, those with green eyes should reach for reddish, purple, mauve and maroon tones. Meanwhile, deep greens like emerald and olive, along with gold and navy, work for brown eyes.

For those with blue eyes, like Zara, orange, bronze, and copper tones, along with peachy or burgundy shades, work best.

And Zara demonstrates the technique perfectly, highlighting her blue irises with a wash of cinnamon-spiced orange on her lids.

Placement is key when it comes to this look. Zara's use of the shadow under her waterline that's diffused outwards in the lower corners allowed the colour to pack even more of a punch alongside her vibrant eyes.

With a subtle, coppery shimmer running through the pigment, the eye look was finished off with thick and fluttery lashes created by what looks like several coats of a volumising mascara. Hello, even more contrast.

As for her complexion, the royal went fresh, glowy and radiant with a peachy-toned blush and sheer raspberry pink gloss on her lips.

It feels like autumn has only just begun, but festive fashion is already waiting in the wings. With Christmas party season around the corner, the high street is already soft-launching its style offering, and honestly, buying early is one of my top tips. Our favourite stores are already drip-feeding sequins, gently pushing feathers and adding velvet and faux furs to new-in line-ups, and honestly, it's joyous.

Expect more in the coming weeks, but as the big day draws closer, it's easy to lose yourself to food shops and gift purchasing. Which is why I'm a big advocate for assessing your winter wardrobe now, taking stock of partywear from previous seasons and deciding on what you may want to add.

Of course, you don't need to buy a full new Christmas party look every season. If you have classic pieces from past festivities, you can easily update these with fresh accessories, a pair of shoes that nod to the autumn/winter fashion trends 2026, or some statement jewels, which means that your seasonal outfit doesn't have to break the bank. However, if you are on the hunt for something new, there are lots of lovely options too.

When it comes to family resorts, they don’t come better than Sani. Located on Greece’s Kassandra peninsula, it’s just been named Europe’s Leading Family Resort 2026 in the World Travel Awards for the eighth consecutive year.

With a week’s stay costing a few thousand euros, it’s always been beyond my reach. But when I was invited to spend four nights there, I finally had the chance to find out what makes it so special.

I travelled in September with my husband and our four-year-old daughter Freddie. Keen to make the most of the journey, we booked another four nights independently in picturesque Afytos beforehand, a 15-minute drive away. A few days of village life followed by a little luxury felt like the perfect combination.

The village of Afytos

Known as the ‘stone balcony’ of Kassandra, the cliff-top village of Afytos offers stunning views of the Toroneos Gulf. In the afternoon, we wandered along the quiet cobbled streets, past classic cars and parked Vespas, with flowers trailing from balconies and cats strolling around like they owned the place.

Yes, there are tourist shops and bars - but it’s far from tacky. The winding streets are full of upmarket boutiques, with handmade jewellery, locally produced honey and traditional Greek blankets.

Food and drinks

I’d highly recommend the Lemonis bakery for pastries and coffee. And, despite keeping a close eye on how much sugar my daughter was having, I couldn’t resist the dark chocolate and Snickers ice cream at Meraklou - twice in the same day! Definitely a case of do as I say, not as I do.

We headed to Ta Glarakia restaurant for our favourite Greek meal: sardines, Greek salad and, of course, Mythos beer. Situated on the edge of the cove, it’s perfect for taking in the view - white sands, rocky patches, and calm waters. We all joined in as the staff sang happy birthday to one of their waiters.

Afterwards, we sat on the sand with our drinks and watched the sunset. It was the most relaxed I’d felt in weeks - and just the rest we needed before tackling the steep steps back up to the town.

The village transformed in the evenings. We stopped at a bar I’d barely noticed in the day, but had suddenly become a hub of activity, with candles and music. When buskers appeared in the square opposite, it didn’t take much encouragement for me to start dancing to YMCA - and I did my best to teach my daughter the routine. Life skills.

Where we stayed

We stayed at the Stratos Hotel, a modern family-run hotel with 48 rooms and lots of charm. Our suite had two bedrooms, a shower room, a balcony, and an unstocked fridge, which we filled with our own supplies and snacks for Freddie. At €520 for four nights, including breakfast and the tourist tax, it's brilliant value. Just a street away from the centre of town, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the steps that take you down to the seaside.

One of my favourite things about staying in a small hotel was getting to know the other guests. By the end of our stay, we knew one man was planning to propose to his girlfriend that week - and everyone smiled and said hello during breakfast. The morning we left, they waved us off with, “It’ll be quieter without you lot.” I chose to take that as a compliment.

But after four nights, it was time for a change and a new location.

Arriving at Sani

Sani felt special from the moment we arrived. As we approached the reception, a team member came out to greet us with outstretched arms and glasses of sparkling wine. I wasn’t surprised when my husband whispered, “Wow, it’s just like The White Lotus.”

We stayed in a sea-view double room at Sani Club, a quieter area of the resort set among pine trees and olive groves. Decorated in luxe neutrals, it had all the touches of an incredibly comfortable stay - plump pillows, crisp sheets with the weight of good-quality cotton, and heavy blackout curtains. Alongside a welcome platter of biscuits and macarons, we found champagne on ice, fresh flowers, dressing gowns, loungers on the balcony, and a stunning view of the Aegean Sea.

On our first morning, I crept out before my husband and daughter were awake - and headed to the pool. Given how comfortable the bed was, this took some serious willpower - but an early morning swim is one of my favourite holiday traditions. I love the peace and quiet, and getting exercise out of the way before laziness takes over.

The sun hadn’t been up for long, and I was bracing myself for the cold water. But when I dipped a toe in, I was taken aback by how warm it was. “Good morning, madam,” said a staff member, who’d appeared out of nowhere - and was already laying a towel on the nearest sun lounger. Noticing my surprise, he smiled, “Yes, it’s heated - the pool is 28 degrees today. Would you like me to bring you some coffee?” I swam to the infinity edge and looked out to the marina and the ruins on the other side of the cove.

Things to do at Sani

As tempting as it was to lounge by the pool all day, there was plenty to explore. Sani has five separate hotels, with Sani Marina at its heart. We wandered past the yachts, boutiques and waterfront restaurants, then towards Sani Dunes. Freddie loved the kids' pool, with its slides and fountains. The shallow pool had an artificial grass lining, which was so soft under bare feet and forgiving on clumsy little knees.

With plenty of daily activities, there are so many opportunities to indulge in what you already love, or try something new. There’s bird-watching, a tree-top obstacle course, as well as the Bear Grylls Survival Academy and Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy.

And it’s all made so easy for you. Everything is listed in the app, so you can see exactly what’s happening and where - and you can WhatsApp the concierge anytime. Freddie loved the trampolines, bikes and pizza-making, while my husband discovered a hidden talent for archery.

When the rain set in one morning, I headed to one of the spas for an invigorating back, shoulder and neck massage. I’ve never been a fan of those paper knickers - I laughed when I opened the packet to find black cotton ones nicer than some of my M&S collection. So fancy, so Sani.

In no rush to leave, I explored the hammam. The domed steam room is decorated with beautiful mother-of-pearl circles, smooth and iridescent. When the heat got too much, I climbed into the sunken pool and splashed my face with cooler water. With sunlight coming through the dome roof, it was stunning.

Food, drinks and evenings out

And, you certainly won’t go hungry at Sani. There are over 25 restaurants across the resort, offering everything from Japanese, Peruvian and Mediterranean cuisine, among others. We headed to Psaroyannos on the marina for a more traditional Greek dinner. I chose the spinach and cheese pie, with its delicious flaky pastry and tangy cheese, followed by a rich and comforting moussaka.

But we also loved sitting on the balcony at the Olympos, especially at sunset. The variety was incredible, with a different buffet each evening. The Asian-themed evening was my favourite - the Thai green curry was so fragrant, and the roasted duck was the best kind of crispy. Of course, we all ate far more than we needed - but it was hard to resist.

Most nights we headed to the Open Air Garden Theatre, showing two 45-minute stage productions with non-stop dance, music, and audience participation. Freddie loved Aladdin, running to the front as soon as it started -and posing with the cast afterwards.

We usually left after the children’s show, worried Freddie might get tired. But one evening we stayed for the disco. With fewer children around and plenty of ’80s music, we danced, ordered extra cocktails and really let our hair down. Afterwards, we wished we’d stayed later on the other nights, too.

On the day of our departure, my husband took Freddie to one of the playgrounds, and I spent our last few hours on the beach with my book. After all the swimming, activities and evenings out, it was lovely to finish by doing very little.

Why the combination worked for us

We’d arrived early on our first day at Sani, and our flight home wasn't until 9pm, so we really made the most of every day. Changing locations made those eight nights feel closer to a fortnight.

The two stays suited different sides of us. In Afytos, our days were laid back, but it was up to us to find places to eat and keep Freddie entertained. I loved that freedom to wander and see where the day took us.

At Sani, so much of the thinking was done for us. We knew we’d eat well wherever we chose, and there was always something for Freddie to get involved in, with plenty of pools, playgrounds and clubs. After a few days of exploring, having everything so easily to hand felt like a holiday in itself.

At our small hotel, we got to know everyone. At Sani, we didn’t always bump into the same crowd, but the activities brought us together with families who had the same interests - we've even swapped numbers with one after our daughters became firm friends.

Our Sani stay was hosted, so I can’t claim the split saved us money. But it’s made me rethink the idea that luxury resorts are beyond my reach. Combining a resort stay with a less expensive hotel nearby is definitely something I'd consider when booking our next holiday.

We're not short on professional decluttering methods these days, and having tested most of them myself, I know each has its merits. But I'm always intrigued when I see a method that's gaining a lot of attention on social media, because it usually means it's doing something right. Lately, it seems that everyone is talking about the JACK decluttering method.

Decluttering enthusiasts and novices alike are swearing by this method as the ultimate way to curb the clutter and let go of items they no longer need. And now that we're officially in cosy season territory, I was only too eager to give the JACK decluttering method a go and see if it would help me restore order to my home for the winter months ahead.

How would it fare up against the other decluttering trends I've tried lately, from the 'decision fatigue' and upside-down methods to the 'use it up' rule? After putting it to the test, I'm pleased to say the JACK method has firmly earned its place in my decluttering toolkit.

What is the JACK decluttering method?

When I first heard about the JACK decluttering method, I was initially a little confused. It turns out this isn't a method named after someone – it's an acronym, with each letter proposing a different action we take when decluttering items:

• Justify: find a real reason for keeping something
• Assign: give every item a distinct role or job
• Contain: put the item in a fixed, specific place
• Keep (or let go): decide firmly whether it stays based on the previous steps

There are several variations of this method online, and like most of my favourite decluttering techniques, the JACK method can be adapted to suit your needs.

Once I knew what the acronym stood for, I could instantly see the appeal. Any method that asks us to justify keeping something can work wonders, whether we're decluttering the bedroom or decluttering books. Trying to find a fixed place for something can really make us think about whether or not we want to keep it.

Before using the JACK decluttering method, I wanted to ask an expert whether they thought the method had grounds. Professional declutterer Shannon Murphy, founder of Simpl Living Co, says it definitely has potential.

"I think the JACK method is a useful starting point for someone beginning to declutter," she says. "The idea of asking yourself why you’re keeping something and having an honest conversation with yourself is particularly valuable."

But Shannon warns, the idea of having to 'assign' a place for everything might not work. "Not everything in our homes needs to have a practical purpose or a specific job. We might keep something because it’s sentimental, because we love how it looks, or simply because seeing it makes us feel good," she says.

That's interesting food for thought, and it definitely made me intrigued to see how I would get on trying the JACK decluttering method myself.

Trying the JACK decluttering method

The first place I tried the JACK decluttering method was in our home office, which also houses our wardrobes. I've started storing odd items on top of the wardrobes for lack of a better place, but this makes the whole room feel messy and disorganised.

I start by taking everything down and trying the 'Justify' step. This forced me to get real – what was my actual reason for storing these items?

I had old photos, stationery, books, and some early Christmas presents on top of the wardrobe, most of which I could justify keeping. But I also had filled-up notebooks from several years ago and random toiletries I couldn't even remember buying, which I couldn't think of a solid reason for keeping.

Next, I 'assigned' a role or job for each item. After talking to Shannon, I decided not to take this step literally and simply thought about what I was keeping each item for. Old photos, for example, don't have a useful 'purpose', but I'm never going to get rid of them because they're nice to look back on.

The 'contain' step was a little trickier. The advice I've seen online concerning this part of the method says we should find a fixed, limited place for each item, like one drawer or shelf. If it doesn't fit in that space, it means we have too much of the item and can let some of them go.

For example, I have a specific cupboard for storing my books in the living room, but they'd started spilling into the home office because the cupboard was full. This made me stop and think about why I was keeping so many books when I didn't really have space. Because I rarely read a book twice, I decided it was time to let the books on top of the wardrobes go.

Once I'd made the final decisions on what was staying and what was going, I was much happier with how the space looked. The tops of the wardrobes are almost empty, except for the Christmas presents, but given that these won't be in my home forever, I was happy to keep them there.

I also decided to try the JACK method in our hallway. I always like to organise the hallway for winter because of the bulkier coats and shoes we store there, and lately it's been a bit of a struggle to get coats on and off the overcrowded pegs.

Working through each step of the acronym, I decided to get rid of one coat, and then spent some time shifting things around in various wardrobes so that not every coat had to live in the hallway.

Decluttering success doesn't necessarily mean getting rid of the most items; it can simply mean reorganising and making the most of the space we have (which is what the wardrobe editing trend teaches us).

As my hallway is now looking much neater, I'd call the JACK decluttering method a success.

Verdict: should you try the JACK decluttering method?

All in all, I'm a fan of this method. I found the JACK acronym provided a really useful framework for structuring the decluttering process and encouraging me to think about what I was storing and why. If we don't have a reason to keep an item, or if we can't find the right place for it, it's probably time to let it go.

That said, I don't think you need to stick to the rules of the JACK decluttering method rigidly. Use it as a starting point, and if you get stuck on any of the steps, try to work through them in a way that suits you. Any progress you make towards organising your home is a win.

For 25 years he coiffured the hair of the most famous face of the 20th century. Queen Elizabeth II's image, displayed on coins, portraits and busts, was instantly recognisable due to her bouffant curls and perm. But for the man behind it - hairdresser Ian Carmichael - it's always been "Ma'am's the word".

Talking exclusively to woman&home, he revealed, "It was an honour to serve her for all that time. My job was to make her look good -she knew she had to be seen to be believed. She didn't want to look fantastic or gorgeous - although she often did, but she wasn't very good at taking compliments. She wanted appropriate. She wasn't a movie star; she was the Queen.

Small Talk

"She was extremely funny, hugely intelligent and incredibly knowledgeable. But my most important job, even above her hair, was to keep her secrets."

Ian visited Queen Elizabeth once or twice every week, and accompanied her on foreign tours to the Commonwealth, Africa, Australia - and that historic Ireland visit in 2011.

He recreated a salon in her private apartments in Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham and Balmoral. And would also cut Prince Philip's hair.

The Queen never washed her own hair - Ian would do that. A soft shampoo with a stand-up attachment to a sink that Queen Victoria would have used 100 years earlier. Then a perm with rollers and a set while she was reading official papers or chatting about the weather or a family holiday.

She never dyed her hair - save for "an occasional silver rinse for a bit of shine" - and never had a blow-dry. A trusty hairstylist is every woman's secret weapon and treasured confidante, so it was no surprise to learn that even the Queen chatted about trivia.

"I think she liked me because I made her laugh," confesses Ian. "She was doing the crossword one day and she asked me if I could help her with a clue. Obviously I thought, 'I'm never going to be able to help her,' as she was very good at it. But she read out the clue: 'What is a mixture of beer and lemonade?' And I knew! 'Shandy,' I said, and she filled it in and replied delightedly, 'Oh, it is! Brilliant!'

I meet Ian in a trendy London restaurant, which is filled with shelves of coloured glass bottles. He immediately charms the staff with his Scottish brogue, orders a very appropriate ‘Regina' pizza and asks how often they dust the thousands of bottles.

Turns out not often, as he finds out when he runs a finger across one. A stickler for detail, and a perfectionist at heart, he freely admits that at 6ft 1in with long blond locks and an unbuttoned shirt, he was perhaps not quite what Queen Elizabeth II was expecting when he first met her at Buckingham Palace.

Ian got the job in 1997, when the Queen's previous hairdresser, "Mr Charles", retired.

"He put my name forward and told her, 'there's a boy within the training academy who's good.' Of course, I wasn't a boy, I was 37, but I had long, kind of dreadlocked hair, so her first words to me, rather sternly, were, 'Can you do hair like this?' I said, 'Of course,' but I suppose I didn't really look the type of hairdresser who could do an older lady's hair! I was trained in shampoos, sets, perming and all the things she needed. So I always felt very confident doing her hair."

However, three years later, Ian left Steiner - the company that had held the Queen's royal warrant.

"To be honest, I thought I'd done it for long enough and told her I was throwing in the towel. But she asked me if I could look after her personally and so, of course, I said yes. Later she gave me her royal warrant as personal hairdresser to the Queen, and in 2017 I was made MVO [Member of the Victorian Order, a personal gift of the monarch], which was a real honour."

Ian spent a huge amount of time with the Queen, but never lost sight of his role.

"It was a very intimate job and there probably weren't many people who could touch her in such a normal way, as you just didn't touch the Queen. I enjoyed being with her and it was always an honour, but I knew my place.

"She put a huge amount of trust in me. I had to make her look good in tiaras - for Catherine and William's wedding, at the State Opening of Parliament, the Royal Variety Performance, and for all her royal tours. Although she was incredibly friendly, she was not my friend. I always knew my duty was to serve her."

Cherished Memories

So does he have a favourite tiara? "Oh it has to be the George IV diadem. She would wear it to the State Opening of Parliament. I fixed it with the occasional kirby grip but the most important thing with tiaras was getting the right balance on her head."

As a good Scot, brought up in Stirling, Ian had learnt Scottish dancing as a boy - which came in very useful up at Balmoral.

"She asked me to come and stay, to do her hair for the Ghillies' Ball. She invited me to the ball but I didn't have a kilt, so I wore my Black Watch tartan suit. The St Bernard's Waltz came on and she said, 'I'll take Ian for this dance, as he's tall enough and won't knock off my tiara.' So I whirled her round the dance floor. It was joyous."

Ian has many such treasured memories, including seeing the Queen just a couple of weeks before she died on 8 September 2022.

But what of the current state of the royal family? Ian says the Queen had been insistent that when Harry and Meghan left as working royals in spring 2020, there was no "half in/half out", but was deeply saddened by the manner of their departure, and the fallout between Princes William and Harry.

"I'd like to hope that Harry and William will speak again," says Ian, "but I'm not sure. I would say Charles is doing a great job though." But after a tough couple of years with Harry and Meghan's brickbats and the King's cancer diagnosis, he looks to the Princess of Wales as the shining star.

"Catherine is such a breath of fresh air, she's absolutely fabulous, as is the Middleton family. She and her perfect children are the future and as such the monarchy is in good hands."

Clutching my friend’s hand tighter I took another step forward. ‘We shouldn’t be here,’ I told her, as the other unsuspecting tourist we’d met walked further into the room ahead of us. We’d just crept up the stairs at a quite obviously haunted dive bar on the hunt for ghosts and while the whisky might have spurred me on, suddenly I wasn’t feeling so brave.

Earnestein and Hazel’s has a reputation as the most haunted bar in Memphis - and rightly so.

We’d only come in for a quick drink but had spent the evening listening to tales from the bartenders about jukeboxes turning on at random and doors shaking all on their own. Added to the fact there had been several confirmed deaths over the years and I was feeling very scared right about now.

‘We don’t mean any harm,’ I said out loud, (I know, I sound ridiculous) into the dimly lit hallway. But there was only eerie silence. What I’d have done if someone had answered I have no idea. Suddenly as I watched the door to one of the rooms start to close all on its own I knew we had to get out of there. When I say we ran back down the stairs I mean we ran!

Back downstairs, as I tried to calm my nerves, we listened to more stories about other former (corporeal!) guests including greats Tina Turner and Ray Charles. But the conversation kept coming back to the supernatural. The bartenders talked about the spirits with real respect calling them ‘the ladies’, explaining the bar was once a brothel and that they always want them to know they are friendly, not like the men they might have encountered before. They don’t seem like they’re pulling my leg, and while I know there will be some who say it’s all just a bunch of hocus pocus, I say, see for yourself - I dare you.

A place for music lovers

It’s not all just ghostly goings on, but throughout Memphis there are glimpses of its past. And in some ways it can feel like you’ve stepped back in time - the neon-lit blues clubs on Beale Street, which runs for almost two miles, saw legends like Louis Armstrong and B.B King perform. And over at Sun Studio (£15, sunstudio.com), known as the birthplace of rock and roll, you can stand in the very same spot that Elvis and Johnny Cash first recorded - and even pose with the microphone they used. Of course Memphis’s most famous attraction, Elvis Presley’s Graceland is a must see. Turns out the hip shaker was partial to a ceiling mirror or two (ooh la la!). Tickets from £62, graceland.com.

Catch a show at the Grind City amphitheatre (grindcityamp.com) as the sun sets or give whisky making a go at Old Dominick.

One thing that’s clear in Memphis is the pride people have for their city - strangers are happy to share memories and it even ranks as the most charitable place in the US. But more importantly, they don’t hide from the rest of its past - Martin Luther King was assassinated here in 1968. Visiting the Civil Rights Museum is sobering but essential. Tickets from £18.

Great eats

At Slider Inn (thesliderinn.com), go for the Jameson slushie and the nachos - they come with chilli and in a crisp packet. Hive (hivebagelanddeli.com) is perfect for breakfast (we went for the corned beef and swiss cheese) and over at Central BBQ (eatcbq.com) - where ‘smoke is our sauce’ no meal is complete without the home cooked pork rinds. The hot chicken at Gus’s (gusfriedchicken.com) hit the spot and was manageable heat-wise even for my wimpy tastebuds. Looking for something fancier? Catherine and Mary’s (catherineandmarys.com) does a mean popcorn shrimp and hidden gem Itta Bena’s (ittabenadining.com) smoked bacon with blueberry compote still has my mouth watering.

When it comes to home comforts, there are some things we simply won't sacrifice, and actress Julianne Moore has just revealed her non-negotiable home essential, which couldn't be more relatable.

While modern bathroom trends encourage homeowners to let showers take precedence over baths, if having a long soak is a priority, then you'll probably relate to actress Julianne Moore, who insists on always having a tub.

Speaking to Architectural Digest, the Still Alice star gives us a peek into her bathroom and the essentials she insists on having in her life.

Whether or not you're interested in making your bathroom look expensive, having a bathtub is always a welcome luxury. And one that some people simply cannot live without.

"I have to have a bathtub," says Julianne. "I have to have a bathtub in my house. I have to have a bathtub in a hotel. It's like something essential to my life, and this is the cutest little bathtub."

"It's actually the perfect size for me, because I don't like a bathtub that's too big because then the water gets too cold, too fast. I was fortunate that it was here, so we were able to use the original bathtub," she adds.

"The previous owner had excellent taste. These are all her marble tiles, and Oliver very painstakingly found tiles that would match them. It's sort of interesting, but it really works to have all of these different patterns," Julianne explains.

Not only has Julianne's interior designer, Oliver Freundlich, absolutely mastered the tile-drenching trend, but he's also added small, genius touches that make the space even more functional.

"This is a signature of Oliver's. I love this, a marine lip. This is, you know, so if you spill, say, drinking your water, and you go like this, it's not going to go off the edge; it's going to collect on the marine lip," Julianne points out.

"These are Eileen Grey light fixtures; I just love them. As I said, I like things that are a little bit industrial or a little bit hard," she adds.

These more industrial-styled lights are gaining popularity in this year's lighting trends and are a great way to add a stylish touch to your bathroom without transforming the entire space.

"What I think is great about this bathroom in particular is that the marble is so bright and these lights are so good; you tend to look really good in this bathroom," laughs Julianne.

This bathroom has certainly shown how to brighten a dark room in so many ways, and we can certainly get behind a space that makes us look our best, too.

She’s an OG supermodel and, until very recently, a contestant in the latest series of The Celebrity Traitors, which finishes tonight on BBC One. When Jerry Hall isn't taking part in castle challenges, she stays active - but not by walking, going to the gym, or doing any of the 'usual' activities.

Jerry, 70, has opened up about what she does instead to keep her body moving. "I do activities like walk the dogs, gardening, canoeing. I don’t go to a gym. I hate that, it’s really boring, not fun," she confessed to The Telegraph.

"It's a great workout, and I love teaching my grandchildren how to grow food too," she told Harper's Bazaar, also revealing that while she used to do yoga, she doesn't anymore. She also doesn't enjoy traditional exercise.

Gardening, moving around the house, and running around after small family members are all types of NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis). This is the energy your body uses and the calories you burn from activities aside from sleeping, eating, and dedicated exercise.

As Jerry shows, it's easy to include more NEAT in your day simply by staying busy - and it's one of the most effective ways to stay healthy alongside strength training and balance exercises.

A review led by Konkuk University presents studies suggesting people who do more NEAT are less likely to be obese, have better cardiovascular health, less harmful inflammation, and better metabolic health. This is mostly linked to spending less time sitting.

"Anything that gets you out, moving, and laughing is worth doing. Gardening, dancing, walking with friends, and so on. Sitting less is also always a good thing. They are great for your heart, your head and your social life," says Millie Gough, founder of Vagabond Pilates and a keynote speaker for Invictus Games 2027.

How to do more NEAT exercise

• Take up an active hobby: Take a leaf out of Jerry's book and pick up a hobby that keeps you active. Gardening, painting, dog walking, and even birdwatching all count.
• Choose the stairs: When you're outside the house, take the stairs and avoid lifts and escalators if you can.
• Pace about: Walk around while you're on the phone, dance in the kitchen while making dinner, or stand while watching television.
• Change your work/sitting habits: If you spend a lot of time sitting, whether that's working from home or on the sofa in the evenings, change this setup. A walking pad is a great way to get more steps in at home.
• Tidy: No one likes doing chores around the house, but this is also a type of NEAT exercise as you're on your feet, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, and so on.

While Jerry may not do dedicated workouts, experts suggest that adding a few weight training sessions to your week alongside NEAT is ideal for healthy ageing. "Think of everyday movement as your baseline, not your training," says Millie.

“The first thing I look at in a dark room is what is blocking the light, not what colour to paint it.
