Sue's blog: Tina Turner in concert
Singer Tina Turner
The highlight of the Bank Holiday weekend for me was going to see Tina Turner in concert at the O2 and wow - what an incredible evening it was!
Tina may be 69 but she put on the most amazing show – singing, dancing and, as she puts it, ‘shaking her booty’ for well over two hours. She really is an inspiration and a phenomenon – somebody who you look at and who instantly makes you feel better about life and excited to be a woman. She totally captures our w&h spirit, I think, with her brand new attitude, her energy and her get-up-and-go approach.
Inspired by that, just a few nights later I went back to the O2 again, this time to visit the new permanent British Music Experience exhibition with my deputy, Gaby. It certainly lives up to its billing as an ‘experience’ with some amazing interactive exhibits – I tried my hand drumming for Oasis on a full drum kit, while Gaby played the keyboards for the Stone Roses! And we had more fun in the dance booth, learning the Macarena, which left us both doubled up with laughter.
We bumped into GMTV presenter Penny Smith while we were there, who particularly loved some of the original costumes on display: Mick Jagger’s catsuit, Freddie Mercury’s tiny suit and the Spice Girls’ outfits among others. She told us that she’d had to force herself out that evening as she’s currently addicted to knitting! We recently sent her on a course to learn to knit and now she can’t stop – she really has discovered a new passion.
No doubt what Penny’s going to be doing this weekend, while I’m off to meet some friends in London for tea...more on that next week.
