Pre departure: Q&A
Before you jet off to India from Heathrow: EXCLUSIVE W&H EXPERIENCE Meet the famous writer Deborah Moggach for a pre-tour talk and Q&A about how she created the book that inspired the hit film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. She’ll reveal how she first came up with the idea for the book, created such an unforgettable cast of characters and then went on to see her bestselling book conquer Hollywood.
DAY 1: Welcome to Delhi
Your Indian adventure starts at our joining hotel before you take an afternoon tour of some of Delhi’s iconic sights, including Humayun’s Tomb, Lodi Gardens and India Gate.

DAY 2: Delhi to Agra
After breakfast, we drive to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. In Agra, you will explore the mighty Agra Fort, a vast riverside complex of exquisite palaces and mosques. Then: W&H EXPERIENCE Witness the beauty of the Taj Mahal at sunset. Accommodation: Double Tree by Hilton*.
DAY 3: Agra to Jaipur
Today we journey to Jaipur, known as the “Pink City” and where most of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was filmed. On the way, you will visit the magnificent fortified ghost city and UNESCO World Heritage site of Fatehpur Sikri. Built by the great Mughal Akbar, and abandoned in 1585 due to a shortage of water, the well-preserved historical site remains a fascinating place to visit.
Just outside of Jaipur: EXCLUSIVE W&H EXPERIENCE
Take high tea at Castle Kanota – the venue for the Viceroy Club in the movie. It’s one of Rajasthan’s finest heritage properties. Accommodation: Narain Niwas Palace Hotel*.
DAY 4: Jaipur
Your chance to discover the lovely city of Jaipur.
W&H EXPERIENCE Explore the Amber Fort, City Palace and Palace of the Winds in the “Pink City” of Jaipur.
Amber Fort is the Rajput masterpiece overlooking the city, known for its artistic style and ramparts, gates and cobbled paths. You’ll also be able to admire the City Palace and the Palace of the Winds – a high screen-wall built so that the women of the royal household could watch street festivals without themselves being seen.
Then: EXCLUSIVE W&H EXPERIENCE
Enjoy a relaxing lunch at the Khatu Haveli in Jaipur, as seen in the new BBC Two celebrity documentary series. It has three courtyards and a number of magnificent arches, verandas, galleries and terraces, providing a charming backdrop for your lunch. Late afternoon and evening are free to enjoy at your leisure: explore the old town’s markets and bazaars or simply enjoy the lively streets at your own pace. Dinner this evening will also be at your own choice.

DAY 5 Jaipur to Bijaipur
After a leisurely breakfast, we’ll wave goodbye to this delightful city and take a journey to the village of Bijaipur.
W&H EXPERIENCE Relax at the charming and historic Castle Bijaipur. Dating back 360 years, it’s run by the local ruling family.
The rest of this afternoon you will be free to enjoy Castle Bijaipur and its facilities, plus go walking, swimming, cycling and horse riding. Accommodation: Castle Bijaipur.
DAY 6 Bijaipur
Free time to relax and explore at your own pace Optional activities include yoga, a dawn walk to spot local birds; a bike ride through the countryside; or even saddle up one of the Marwari horses for a ride in the hills and forests, passing through unspoilt villages. Or you may want to unwind by the pool or take a stroll through Bijaipur. In the evening, we’ll go for a Jeep-drive visiting local villages – and enjoy a sundowner! Accommodation: Castle Bijaipur.
DAY 7: Bijaipur to Khempur
Saying goodbye to Bijaipur, we travel to Khempur. En route, you will visit the town of Chittorgarh and its colossal fort, one of the largest in India and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Then: W&H EXPERIENCE Stay at the real Best Exotic Marigold hotel in Khempur. Otherwise known as Ravla Khempur, it will draw you in to the infectiously quirky world portrayed in the film. Once a famous stud farm, the palace is still home to some fine Marwari horses. This afternoon is free to relax in the courtyards of the hotel or stroll around the village.
This evening: EXCLUSIVE W&H EXPERIENCE
Enjoy a private bullock cart ride through the wonderful Indian countryside. We’ll stop in a picturesque spot for a sundowner. After dinner, it’s movie night with a chance to watch The Real Exotic Marigold Hotel at the hotel itself. Accommodation: Ravla Khempur.
DAY 8: Khempur to Udaipur
After leaving Ravla Khempur, we’ll take the short journey to Udaipur, the “White City” that overlooks a pair of stunning lakes. After checking in to our hotel, you’re free to explore this charming place for yourself. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a short boat ride on Lake Pichola. Accommodation: Karohi Haveli*.
DAY 9: Udaipur
This morning: W&H EXPERIENCE Explore the lakes, gardens and palaces of Udaipur, known as the “Venice of the East”. We’ll take a guided tour including the City Palace, the Jagdish Temple and the exotic gardens at Saheliyon-ki-Bari.
This afternoon will be free for you to explore the alleys and narrow streets or relax by the lake. Tonight we’ll enjoy a wonderful farewell dinner at Ambrai, a garden restaurant with incredible views of the Lake Palace. Accommodation: Karohi Haveli*.
DAY 10: A fond farewell
Your unique w&h tour of India ends with breakfast in Udaipur – the last of ten days that you’ll never forget.

What you need to know
The weather: Temperatures are very pleasant at this time of year and should be a daytime average of 15-25C, cooling to around 5-10C in the evenings. UK passport holders need a visa; you can now get an e-visa online – for information, go to indianvisaonline.gov.in
Inoculations: There are no mandatory immunisations, though you should be up to date with Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio and Hepatitis A. Malaria is present in some parts of India so seek advice from your local GP or travel centre as to the correct immunisations and preventative treatment.
