Some like it cold - Snow breaks
Fed up with the British winter? Then make a break for some beautiful snow, suggests travel guru Jo Foley
Andorra
Andorra is one of the easiest places in the world to enjoy, whatever the season. It provides brilliant winter sports with great weather and food, not to mention tax-free shopping.
For skiers, the snow is generally good, the slopes aren't too high and there's a selection of English-speaking instructors, making it one of the best places for learners or to build your confidence.
There are also some fantastic cross-country routes, which make for a glorious way to travel. It's brilliant exercise and, once you get the hang of it, it's exhilarating.
Arinsal is the most popular resort in Andorra and offers really good skiing for beginners and intermediates. Plus, it has a dedicated “Freestyle Area” for snowboarders, who can be a real nuisance on general slopes.
The resort also now has a lift-pass scheme, which gives access to two other ski areas. And while the nightlife may not be that of Gstaad or St Moritz, there are some good bars and clubs, all charging those fabulous duty-free prices.
