Long haul weekends - Hong Kong

Hong Kong
With super shopping and fabulous nightlife, China's East-meets-West city is a perfect girls' getaway.

What's hot: Hong Kong takes designer stores to a higher level; fashionable Kowloon's Elements mall is the place to join Chinese fashionistas, while the new Armani (11 Chater Rd) scatters clothes, cosmetics and chic eats across an entire skyscraper.

For lifestyle goodies such as PJs covered in Chinese newspaper ads, check out G.O.D. stores. There's a branch in Hollywood Road where you can linger for antique shopping and a US-style brunch at The Press Room (no 108).

SoHo's restaurants are nearby – book Buddha-studded Yun Fu for Tibetan/Chinese treats such as Duck marinated in Chinese tea. Best bars are the Starck-designed Felix at Kowloon's Peninsula Hotel, plus nearby Aqua Spirit (1 Peking St).

Where to stay: For a female-only floor where contemporary rooms are stashed with facial steamers and healthy minibars, book the Fleming in Wan Chai. In Kowloon, the sumptuous Peninsula (www.hongkong.peninsula.com) is a faultless choice, while the Kowloon Hotel is a good budget alternative.

Don't miss: May's festivals, including Buddha's birthday and The Bun Festival.

What it costs: From £513pp for three nights, room only at the Kowloon Hotel, including flights - Expedia
