Although they never got a chance to meet, the Duchess of Cambridge seems conscientious about keeping the memory of Princess Diana alive just as much as her husband Prince William.
The Duchess is well known for her subtle homages to her late mother-in-law, and Catherine regularly wears items borrowed from Diana's stock of jewellery as her way of doing this.
In the past, Catherine has been seen wearing a pearl bracelet that belonged to the former Princess of Wales. The bracelet, which the Duchess last wore during her official tour of Germany and Poland, was worn by Diana on multiple occasions.
Now, it's been revealed that Catherine and her family have paid their own, personal tribute to Diana with another special piece of jewelry.
The Duchess apparently owns a necklace by London-based designer Merci Maman. The sweet gold necklace is said to be inspired by a gold necklace gift that Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana after she gave birth to William. Diana's necklace was inscribed with William's name, and she was often spotted in it in when out on royal engagements.
Catherine was gifted her gold necklace by sister Pippa, who was aware of the family connection, and purchased the chain as a touching tribute to Diana for Catherine.
The Duchess of Cambridge's necklace bears the name of her first-born child, just like Diana's did. The Duchess was spotted wearing her necklace engraved with Prince George's name shortly after his birth in 2013.
On their website, Merci Maman wrote "'Upon the birth of Prince William in 1982, Prince Charles gave Diana the
gift of a gold pendant engraved their new son's name, which she always
wore close to her heart.
"In 2013, Pippa Middleton continued this family tradition by giving her sister Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge, our Personalised Duchess Necklace to celebrate the birth of Prince George.
They went on to describe that the necklace also paid homage to Prince William too, describing what the necklace shows. They said, "Featuring a hand-engraved disc with the Prince's full name, a small boy charm and a heart engraved with a ‘W' to represent Prince William."
We wonder if she's updated the piece of jewellery following the birth of Princess Charlotte too?
