‘Brings back fantastic memories’: Princess Diana’s bridesmaid shares photo of the wedding memento she still cherishes

The wedding of Princess Diana and Princes Charles may have happened over 30 years ago, but it's gone down as one of the most memorable days in recent history.

And one very special guest at the esteemed royal wedding has revealed that she’s actually kept a memento from the day –  and that she still treasures it even now.

India Hicks, who was one of Princess Diana’s bridesmaids on the special day at Westminster Abbey, recently shared that she has held on to her flower crown from the big day.

She posted a photo of the floral headpiece on Instagram. The crown as adorned with  a range of flowers, designed to compliment Diana’s wedding bouquet, which was made up of fressias, gardenias, and lily of the valley. And it seems the keepsake has managed to stay in remarkably good condition in her cabinet.

Alongside the photo, India, wrote, ‘The preserved flower wreath I wore as a bridesmaid to the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana sits among 18th century ornamental Chinese white jade dishes.

‘They don’t smell quite as good now as they did on the day, but they do bring back some pretty fantastic memories.’

The preserved flower wreath I wore as a bridesmaid to the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana sits among 18th century ornamental Chinese white jade dishes. They don’t smell quite as good now as they did on the day, but they do bring back some pretty fantastic memories. As does my father’s secret garden, which inspired my English Rose fragrance, a sexy smell which brings to mind warm rain, rose, and peony petals. If you possibly want to see or hear more, come and find me in Texas this week. Tomorrow, I will be giving a book talk and signing in Houston at Design in Bloom by @flowermagazine as a part of a panel presentation alongside @charmossny @gpschafer and @vanvlietandtrap and Wednesday I will be in Dallas at Nancy Perot’s @interabangbooks for a book signing from 10am-12pm.

Royal fans flocked to the photo to praise the treasured keepsake, and share their own memories from the special day.

One wrote, ‘I hope it brings you happy thoughts of a once happy time. And what an amazing piece of history to pass down.’

While another commented, ‘Must have been an exciting day 😊”. A third social media user also said,” I absolutely can still imagine exactly how you all looked that day; so lovely.’

India Hicks, now 50, currently runs her eponymous lifestyle brand – but still has clear connections to the royal family.

Prince Charles is her godfather, and the pair are also second cousins. India is also 678th in line to the British throne, as her maternal grandfather is the Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

India currently acts as a royal commentator for many media outlets, even providing commentary on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011 for ITV and US network ABC.

She has previously discussed Diana and Charles’ big day, recalling how she was terrified to be asked to be a bridesmaid, as she was such a ‘tomboy’.

Writing in You magazine, India said, ‘When my godfather Prince Charles called to ask if I would like to be a bridesmaid, I was initially horrified.

“‘I was like was a 13-year-old tomboy, never out of jodhpurs, and I would have to wear a dress.’

Luckily, it all came together in the end!
