Jennifer Aniston has announced that she has separated from her husband, Justin Theroux, after just two and a half years of marriage.
The former Friends star and her actor husband shared the unexpected news in a statement via her spokesperson, in which they said that it was an amicable decision made ‘lovingly’ and that they want to remain ‘best friends’.
‘In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation,’ the message from Jennifer’s rep Stephen Huvane reads.
‘Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another,’ they add.

‘In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year.
‘We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.
‘Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly.
‘Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.’
Jennifer started dating Justin in 2011 after they worked together on the film Wanderlust and they got engaged the following year.
In 2015 the couple tied the knot at their Bel Air home and kept it very low-key by not telling guests that it was a wedding – instead they thought that they’d be celebrating Justin’s upcoming birthday.
The shock news of their split comes after they were last pictured together in January on holiday in Mexico.
Whilst Jen isn’t on social media, Justin has an Instagram account. He last posted a photo with his wife in August 2017, along with emojis of a bow and arrow and love heart.
It comes just a week after Jennifer opened up about how much she loves spending time at the pair’s home in an interview with Architectural Digest.
‘I look around at my husband and my dogs and our home, and there’s nowhere else I want to be,’ the actress explained.
The announcement also comes less than a week after Jennifer celebrated her 49th birthday – without Justin.
Instead, the star surrounded herself with some of her closest girlfriends, as a snap from her birthday party posted by her manager Aleen Keshishian showed.
They included her former Friends co-star and close confidant Courteney Cox, who hosted the bash at her Malibu home.
The marriage was Jennifer’s second, with her having previously been wed to Brad Pitt from 2000 until their split in 2005.
