Given the change in the line-up, a brand new face is bound to give a different feel to the popular BBC programme.
And it seems one judge in particular is determined that Shirley Ballas won’t overshadow his outspoken and sassy reputation on the show.
Craig Revel Horwood, who has been on the show since it began back in 2004, admitted that he’s determined to maintain his crown as the “mean” one on the show, and jokingly stated that Shirley is welcome to compete – at her own risk.
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, he reportedly said, “Shirley can try to be as mean as me… let’s see. It’s all about the technique. I am definitely the bigger b***h. And my outfits will be more glamorous.”
The veteran presenter also revealed that he’s keen to have just as much of a controversial and tounge-in-cheek relationship with Shirley as he did with Len, saying “The reason I wanted to keep doing Strictly was because we now have a new judge. I can’t wait to go into battle with her.”
Craig also promised that there would be fireworks between he and Shirley, and that he won’t be afraid to say what he thinks. He admitted, “I am hoping there will be banter between us. We have already had words. I can’t reveal what was said. But I can promise it’s going to be interesting. People will have to wait and see how it all comes out.”
Craig also chatted about the famous competition between BBC’s Strictly and ITV’s The X Factor, which often come up against each other in the rating battles. He praised Shirley, suggesting that now she’s joined the Strictly panel, the programme will be more popular than ever.
“Shirley is so knowledgeable. She’ll be fierce. She’s amazing. So now we’ve got Shirley joining, X Factor just can’t compete with us. There’s no competition.”
Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas will be joined on the judging panel by former Strictly judges Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell.
We guess we’ll have to wait until September to see how it all pans out…!
