Catch the red carpet looks as some of the world's most famous musicians celebrate the Brit Awards
The BRIT Awards, sponsored by Raymond Weil, took place last night, and to say that it was a stellar evening for Adele would be an understatement. The Tottenham born singer took home a staggering total of four awards including best British Female Solo Artist, Best British Album for “25”, Best British Single for ‘Hello’ and a Global Success Award. Speaking of her win she said “To come back after so long away and be so warmly received means so much.” She closed this how by performing her new single “When We Were Young.” Needless to say, Adele was the star of the show and was even reduced to tears of happiness on stage!
Annie Lennox introduced an emotional tribute to the late David Bowie, naming him “a quintessential visionary.” She continued, “For me, it’s almost impossible to mention Bowie’s name in the past tense. Everything he represented as an artist was, and always will be, vital and incredibly present.”
Bowie’s friend Gary Oldman accepted a posthumous Brits Icon Award on behalf of the legendary singer saying “David you were mortal, but your potential was superhuman.” New Zealand born singer Lorde, who Bowie one named “the future of music” delivered a stunning performance of “Life On Mars”
The evening also featured a risque performance from Rihanna and Drake. Elsewhere awards were given to Justin Bieber and James Bay. Welsh band Catfish and the Bottlemen won the breakthrough category and Australian rock band Tame Impala scooped the International Group Prize.
Coldplay won the British Group award, making it the ninth Brit win of the band’s career. They first won the category back in 2001. Bjork was also a winner last night as she accepted the prize for International Female Solo Artist for her album “Vulnicura”.
Much to the dissapointment of fans Ant and Dec revealed that it would be the last time that they present the award ceremony. But the hilarious duo pulled out all the stops as Ant swapped his suit for a ruffled lilac ball gown. And the red carpet looks did not dissapoint. Flick through for all the highlights!
