5 Oscars Moments You Might Have Missed

1. Patricia Arquette’s passionate speech

The speech of the night was given by Best Supporting Actress winner Patricia, who managed to get THIS reaction out of Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez. The Boyhood actress used the platform to stress the importance of equal rights fo women. She said: ‘To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer of this nation. We have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all.’

2. Eddie did it!

Eddie Redmayne won the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes, SAGs and Baftas for his role as Professor Steven Hawking in the Theory of Everything, so the pressure was really on to pick up the Oscar. His hard work paid off when he was announced as the winner, and his excitement was obvious throughout his acceptance speech. He dedicated the award to those battling ALS, and said: ‘I don’t think I’m capable of articulating quite how I feel right now.’ 

3. Lady Gaga joined by Julie Andrews


Julie Andrews led the praise for Lady Gaga following a stand-out performance from the pop singer. Gaga performed a medley of songs from The Sound of Music, and Julie joined her on stage after, saying: ‘Thank you for that wonderful tribute. It really warmed my heart.’

4. Jen and Emma hugged it out 

THE picture of the night was of Jennifer Aniston and Emma Stone embracing on the red carpet. The pair’s obvious happiness to see each other put a smile on almost everyone’s face, and showed us that stars can have fun on the red carpet too.

5. Meryl Streep led the memoriam montage

An emotional Meryl led the annual tribute to industry figures that have died within the past 12 months. The internet was unhappy about the noticeable lack of a tribute to Joan Rivers, but Robin Williams, Maya Angelou and Mickey Rooney were amongst those honoured in the presentation.
