It is the first sale of the season – and one of the most luxurious in the world. Harrods traditionally kickstarts the sale season with a grand event but this year it has staged an extraordinary opening to beat every expectation.
A red carpet welcomes shoppers arriving to the Knightsbridge store where they’ll be treated to delicious food and spectacular entertainment while they wait to join the sale. An army of 50 butlers will serve luscious hot chocolate and a mouthwatering selection of complimentary canapés created by Michelin-starred chefs Chris and Jeff Galvin, such as mini Clarence Court quail egg Benedict or smoked salmon pea blini with crème frâiche and dill.
Jugglers, fire-breathers, a string quartet and the amazing street magician Dynamo will keep people entertained, while blankets and umbrellas will be at hand if the weather is inclement.
Some lucky shoppers will also have a chance to win fabulous prizes, such as £1,000 to spend at the sale or a dinner for four at Demoiselle by Galvin, through live social media competitions.
“We always raise the bar at every sale opening and this year we decided to do what we do best inside the store – only outside the store,” says Katherine Witty of Harrods. “Customers will therefore be treated to fantastic service, canapés, and entertainment while they queue. We even have specially made blankets to keep out the chill!”
The pre-sale entertainment starts from 8.30am with the Harrods doors opening at 10am. Inside the store, some of the world’s best offers will await you, including an Alexander McQueen Heroine bag reduced from £2,195 to £1,310, J. Brand skinny jeans down from £275 to £129 and an Emilio Pucci silk scarf down from £240 to £140.
